Physiological responses of seedlings of two oak species to flooding stress

The physiological responses of 2-year-old seedlings of Nuttall＇s oak （Quercus nuttallii） and Southern red oak （***） with two treatments i.e., deep-drowning and shallow-drowning, were studied. Taxodium distichum was selected as a control. The survival rates of seedlings were calculated, the photosynthetic indices were detected by Licor-6400 photosynthetic system instrument, and the root activities of seedlings were tested by the method of triphenyltetrazolium chloride （TTC）. Results showed that： 1） By experiencing flooding for 76 d and recovering for 60 d after water was drained off, all seedlings survived under the shallow-drowning treatment. None of Q. falcata seedlings died in the deep-drowning treatment until the 49th day. The survival rate of Q. falcata in the deep-drowning treatment was 30%. 2） Within 61 d of waterlogging treatments, the net photosynthetic rate （Pn）, stomatal conductance （gs） and transpiration rate （Tr） showed a tendency of declining, but intercellular concentration of CO2 （Ci） increased. With the prolongation of flooding stress, the extents of variation for all indices under deep-drowning treatment were larger than those under the shallow-drowning treatment. The variation of Q. falcata in flooding stress was larger than that of Q. nuttallii. 3） The root vigor and alcohol dehydrogenase （ADH） activities were detected at the 61st day in flooding stress. Waterlogging obviously inhibited root activities. Shallow-drowning made root vigor of Q. nuttallii decreased by 11.7%, and for Q. falcata, by 51.88%. Shallow-drowning treatment had no remarkable effects on ADH activities of seedlings, but deep-drowning increased those of Q. nuttallii seedlings by 227.24%, and decreased those of Q. falcata seedlings by 59.22% in the meantime. We conclude that Q. nuttallii had a stronger waterlogging resistance than Q. falcata, but weaker than T. distichum.

Sea cucumber intestinal hydrolysates alleviate insulin resistance through regulating IRS1/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway mediated by glutamine metabolism in high-fat and high-sucrose diet-induced mice

It has been reported that sea cucumber intestine hydrolysates (SCIH) could promote glutamine metabolism in mice， while there is a close connection between glutamine metabolism and insulin sensitivity. However， the effect of SCIH on insulin resistance is still unclear. The results showed that SCIH hydrolyzed by flavor protease had significant activity using the insulin-induced hepG2 cell model. Animal experiments exhibited that SCIH supplementation significantly improved the high-fat and high-sucrose diet-induced impaired glucose tolerance， reduced fasting serum glucose and glycosylated serum protein. Besides， SCIH ameliorated islet vacuolization and decreased the pancreas TNF-α and IL-6 by 32.1% and 36.2%， respectively. Immunofluorescence staining results showed that SCIH promoted insulin secretion. Interestingly， SCIH significantly increased the liver glutamine levels and upregulated the expression of glutaminase1 (GLS1) and glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GLUD1). Furthermore， SCIH increased liver acetyl-CoA levels to enhance histone acetylation and activate the gene transcription and translation on glucose metabolism-related IRS/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway， thereby attenuating insulin resistance. The present findings proposed the potential value for developing functional foods in SCIH utilization.

Sintering behavior and thermal conductivity of Y_(2)O_(3) fully stabilized HfO_(2) ceramics

A series of Y_(2)O_(3) fully stabilized HfO2 ceramics(Hf_(1-x)Y_(x)O_(2-0.5x),x=0.20,0.24,0.28,0.32,0.36 and 0.40)were synthesized by solid-state reaction at 1500℃.The phase composition,thermal conductivity and sintering behavior at 1400℃ of the ceramic bulks were *** Hf_(1-x)Y_(x)O_(2-0.5x) ceramics were comprised of pure cubic phase with disordered fluorite *** phase transformation occurred in the ceramics with Y3+doping concentration ranging from 0.24 to *** Hf_(0.64)Y_(0.36)O_(1.82) and Hf_(0.6)Y_(0.4)O_(1.8) samples revealed the lowest grain growth rate when sintered at 1400℃,indicating good resistance to ***,the Vicker’s hardness and Young’s modulus after annealed for 96 h at 1400℃ for the Hf_(0.64)Y_(0.36)O_(1.82) sample were 8.97 and 200 GPa,respectively,much lower than those of the Hf_(0.6)Y_(0.4)O_(1.8)(14.51 and 237 GPa,respectively).The thermal conductivity of Hf_(1-x)Y_(x)O_(2-0.5x) first decreased and then increased slowly as the Y3+content increased,and the associated mechanism was discussed.

Lightweight aerogels feature multifunctionality and a high porosity,yet accompanied with poor structure recovery under large strain *** this work,we develop an air bubble-ice crystal dual template and annealing strategy to integrate low density and high resilience for the conductive transition metal carbides/nitrides(MXene)composite *** air bubbles and ice crystals synergistically exclude the nanosheets to the gas-liquid interfaces,thereby constructing unique Y-shaped junctions and robust *** annealing process greatly enhances the interlayer *** external load,the Yshaped structures prevent the stress concentration at the junctions by transferring the forces to the skeleton for maintaining structural *** addition,the wrinkled and thick cell walls,together with the enhanced interlayer interactions,endow the aerogel with exceptional structural stability and *** a result,the MXene/reduced graphene oxide(RGO)composite aerogels exhibit superelasticity with reversible compressive strains of up to 95%.In addition,the electron bridging effect of the RGO sheets affords the aerogel to deliver excellent electromagnetic interference shielding performance,as high as 46.3 dB at 2.5 ***,the remarkable reshapeability of the aerogels allows for precise regulation of structure and performance(33.5-75.1 dB)by a simple wetting compression *** summary,this work offers helpful inspirations for developing lightweight and superelasticity aerogels for extensive applications.

The demand for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) for vehicles is increasing. However, LIBs use valuable rare metals, such as Co and Li, aswell as environmentally toxic reagents. LIBs are also necessary to utilize for a long period and to recycle useful materials. The reduction, reuse,and recycle (3R) of spent LIBs is an important consideration in constructing a circular economy. In this paper, a flowsheet of the 3R of LIBs isproposed and methods to reduce the utilization of valuable rare metals and the amount of spent LIBs by remanufacturing used parts and designingnew batteries considering the concept of 3R are described. Next, several technological processes for the reuse and recycling of LIBs are *** technologies include discharge, sorting, crushing, binder removal, physical separation, and pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgicalprocessing. Each process, as well as the related physical, chemical, and biological treatments, are discussed. Finally, the problem of developedtechnologies and future subjects for 3R of LIBs are described.

Mechanical properties and microstructures of Mg-6Si alloys fabricated using the tungsten-inert-gas arc additive manufacturing

Si-containing Mg alloys solidified at conventional rates often contain coarse and sharp Mg2Si phases,which can result in inferior material *** this study,Mg-6wt.%Si （Mg-6Si） alloy was prepared by wire arc additive manufacturing （WAAM）,employing the gas tungsten arc welding technique with rapid *** microstructures and mechanical properties of the WAAM alloy were investigated and compared with those of the as-cast samples produced using a metal *** results indicate that the WAAM Mg-6Si is harder and stronger than the as-cast *** microhardness of the WAAM Mg-6Si increases by 36.6%in comparison to that of as-cast Mg-6Si ***,the average tensile strengths at room temperature and 150°C increases by 63.4%and 21.3%,*** refines both the Mg2Si phase and the overall grains,resulting in a homogeneous morphology and improved mechanical *** granular Mg2Si phase,characterized by fine particles with a diffused distribution,shows a significant increase in *** acicular Mg2Si phase is distributed along the grain boundaries,and its concentration significantly *** average grain size of the Mg2Si phase is about 9.20μm,about 5 times *** refinement and distribution of the granular Mg2Si phase,as well as the reduction in the amount of needle-like Mg2Si particles,are the key factors for improving the mechanical properties of WAAM Mg-6Si alloy.

Analytical models for the penetration of semi-infinite targets by rigid,deformable and erosive long rods

A theoretical study is presented herein on the pen- etration of a semi-infinite target by a spherical-headed long rod for Yp 〉 S, where Yp is the penetrator strength and S is the static target resistance. For Yp 〉 S, depending upon initial impact velocity, there exist three types of penetration, namely, penetration by a rigid long rod, penetration by a deforming non-erosive long rod and penetration by an erosive long rod. If the impact velocity of the penetrator is higher than the hydrodynamic velocity （VH）, it will penetrate the target in an erosive mode; if the impact velocity lies between the hydrodynamic velocity （VH） and the rigid body velocity （VR）, it will penetrate the target in a deformable mode; if the impact velocity is less than the rigid body velocity （VR）, it will penetrate the target in a rigid mode. The critical conditions for the transition among these three penetration modes are proposed. It is demonstrated that the present model predictions correlate well with the experimental observations in terms of depth of penetration （DOP） and the critical transition conditions.

Early identification of stroke through deep learning with multi-modal human speech and movement data

Early identification and treatment of stroke can greatly improve patient outcomes and quality of *** clinical tests such as the Cincinnati Pre-hospital Stroke Scale(CPSS)and the Face Arm Speech Test(FAST)are commonly used for stroke screening,accurate administration is dependent on specialized *** this study,we proposed a novel multimodal deep learning approach,based on the FAST,for assessing suspected stroke patients exhibiting symptoms such as limb weakness,facial paresis,and speech disorders in acute *** collected a dataset comprising videos and audio recordings of emergency room patients performing designated limb movements,facial expressions,and speech tests based on the *** compared the constructed deep learning model,which was designed to process multi-modal datasets,with six prior models that achieved good action classification performance,including the I3D,SlowFast,X3D,TPN,TimeSformer,and *** found that the findings of our deep learning model had a higher clinical value compared with the other ***,the multi-modal model outperformed its single-module variants,highlighting the benefit of utilizing multiple types of patient data,such as action videos and speech *** results indicate that a multi-modal deep learning model combined with the FAST could greatly improve the accuracy and sensitivity of early stroke identification of stroke,thus providing a practical and powerful tool for assessing stroke patients in an emergency clinical setting.

Ultrastrong room-temperature phosphorescence in cucurbit[8]uril-mediated crystalline supramolecules for ratiometric detection of phenethylamine

It is a great challenge to modulate purely organic fluorescence-phosphorescence dual emission in aqueous solution because the excited singlet and triplet states are in competition with each other. herein, we report a crystalline 1:2 host-guest formed by selfassembly of 4-(4-bromophenyl)-pyridinium derivatives and cucurbit[8]uril, in which a rigid environment rich in weak interactions is directly demonstrated. Due to the inhibition of non-radiative transition and stabilization of triplet exciton in the crystalline environment, the crystalline inclusion complex exhibits ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence lifetime of 3.21 ms with an room-temperature phosphorescence(RTP) quantum yield up to 16.29%. Interestingly, the crystalline 1:2 hostguest complex demonstrates the ability of rapid identification and sensitive fluorescence-phosphorescence ratiometric detection behavior toward phenethylamine, a drug analogue, with a limit of detection as low as 27.5 nM. We believe that this study will undoubtedly broaden the utilizing scopes of RTP and offer a novel avenue for psychoactive substances monitoring.
