Comparison of the hygrothermal performance of two light-framed timber structure buildings under different operation modes

Light-framed timber structure(LTS)buildings have been highly valued in recent years due to their low-carbon ***,the applicability of the building envelope is closely related to indoor and outdoor *** hot summer and cold winter(HSCW)climate zone in China has high humidity and great temperature variation throughout the year,resulting in distinct outdoor environments in different *** indoor environment is greatly affected by energy-consumption patterns and window-op.ning habits,which largely dep.nd up.n the regulation operations of *** these interrelated factors lead to extremely complex boundary conditions on each side of the building *** the structures of LTS buildings are applicable in this climate zone,therefore,needs to be carefully *** this study,two LTS buildings with different envelopes were established in Haining,China,situated in the HSCW climate zone,and selected as the study *** operation modes were adopted to create a variety of indoor *** each condition,the processes of heat and moisture transfer within the building envelopes and the indoor environment were monitored and *** comparison indicated that the building envelope with high moisture storage and insulation ability maintained a relatively stable indoor environment,especially when the environment changed ***,if the outdoor environment was equable(e.g.,relative humidity within the range of 30%–60%)or intermittent energy consumption modes were adopted,the building envelope with a low thermal inertia index and weak moisture-buffering ability performed better because it enabled a faster resp.nse of the indoor environment to air ***,a high risk of moisture accumulation between the thermal insulation layer and other materials with a large water vapour transfer resistance factor was also identified,suggesting a higher requirement for the vapour insulation of the env

To enhance the resistance of SiC_(f)/SiC to hydrothermal corrosion in the pressurized water reactor(pWR)environment,structurally tunable Ti_(3)SiC(2)-based corrosion mitigation coatings for SiC_(f)/SiC were prepared using molten salt *** influence of various process parameters,such as Si/Ti molar ratio in raw materials,annealing time,and annealing temperature,on the phase composition and the structure of the coatings was *** the process control,the fabricated coatings can be either Ti_(3)SiC(2) monolithic structure or TiC/Ti_(3)SiC(2) and TiC/Ti_(3)SiC(2)/Ti_(5)Si_(3)C_(x) multilayered *** coatings demonstrate strong bonding to the substrate due to in-situ reaction,exhibiting tensile and shear strength of at least 26.9 and 30.8 Mpa,*** TiC as a transition layer further enhances the tensile and shear strength to 41.3 and 51.4 Mpa,*** Ti_(3)SiC(2) coatings enhance the thermal conductivity of SiC_(f)/SiC by 10%–12%.notably,Ti_(3)SiC(2) coatings effectively protect SiC_(f)/SiC from hydrothermal corrosion,demonstrating an 83%strength retention rate compared to 71%in the control group after ***,the Ti5Si3Cx layer exhibits unsatisfactory corrosion *** Ti_(3)SiC(2) monolithic coating has higher thermal conductivity,TiC/Ti_(3)SiC(2) multi-layered coating has higher bonding strength,and both have desirable resistance to the hydrothermal corrosion.

Anisotropic shearing mechanism of Kangding slate:Experimental investigation and numerical analysis

The shear mechanical behavior is regarded as an essential factor affecting the stability of the surrounding rocks in underground *** shear strength and failure mechanisms of layered rock are significantly affected by the foliation *** shear tests were conducted on cubic slate samples with foliation angles of 0°,30°,45°,60°,and 90°.The effect of foliation angles on failure patterns,acoustic emission(AE)characteristics,and shear strength parameters was *** on AE characteristics,the slate failure process could be divided into four stages:quiet period,step-like increasing period,dramatic increasing period,and remission period.A new empirical expression of cohesion for layered rock was proposed,which was compared with linear and sinusoidal cohesion expressions based on the results made by this paper and previous *** comparative analysis demonstrated that the new expression has better prediction ability than other *** proposed empirical equation was used for direct shear simulations with the combined finite-discrete element method(FDEM),and it was found to align well with the experimental *** both computational efficiency and accuracy,it was recommended to use a shear rate of 0.01 m/s for FDEM to carry out direct shear *** balance the relationship between the number of elements and the simulation results in the direct shear simulations,the recommended element size is 1 mm.

Thallium’s Threat to Aquatic Life:Stage-Specific Toxicity in Zebrafish Embryos and Larvae

The escalating frequency of thallium(Tl)contamination incidents amplifies its environmental ***,the potential risk of Tl to aquatic organisms,especially across varying developmental stages,remains poorly *** this study,we employed zebrafish as a representative model organism and exposed zebrafish embryos and larvae at distinct developmental periods(specifically,6 h postfertilization(hpf)and 72 hpf)to low concentrations of Tl(I)(0.25 and 0.50 mg/L).The exposure was performed for a short duration of 24 h,followed by a 96 h depuration *** results revealed that Tl(I)exerted disparate biological effects on zebrafish at different developmental *** exhibited negligible uptake of Tl(I),whereas larvae showed a significant accumulation of Tl(I)and struggled with its rapid ***,Tl(I)was able to permeate the blood-brain barrier,thereby posing a risk to the nervous *** analysis indicated that Tl(I)triggered distinct toxicological pathways in embryos and *** mainly interfered with metabolic processes in embryos,while in larvae,it mainly disrupted intracellular ion homeostasis,both consequently provoking *** emphasizes that the multifaceted nature of Tl(I)toxicity dep.nds on the developmental stages of the *** study clearly shows that the bioeffects of Tl are intricately related to the developmental stage of zebrafish,offering a valuable perspective for the pollutant toxicity assessment.

Improving Radiation pattern Roundness of Henge-Like Metaring-Loaded Monopoles Above a Finite Ground for MIMO Systems

A henge-like metaring(HMR)is proposed for improving the radiation pattern roundness of monopole antennas offcenter mounted on a finite ground by localizing the radiation from the monopole and suppressing the scattering by the *** improved patterns enhance uniform coverage of multiple-input and multiple-output(MIMO)*** study reveals that the radiation pattern of an off-center monopole is distorted by the asymmetric ground currents excited by both the feed and the radiation of the *** distorted radiation patterns severely degrade wireless communication link *** HMR,composed of an annular array of mushroom unit cells,simultaneously functions as an electromagnetic bandgap(EBG)and a radiator,and encircles the monopole to form a henge monopole antenna(HMA).The HMR as an EBG is used to suppress the ground currents outside the HMR analyzed by an equivalent circuit *** HMR as a radiator is designed to decouple the monopole from the ground with its elevated radiation pattern using characteristic mode *** examples,two prototypes of single and four off-center MIMO HMAs are designed and investigated in the 2.45-GHz *** and measured results show that the single HMA and each of the four HMAs achieve the un-roundness of the radiation pattern atθ=65°plane lower than 2 dB and 3 dB in the 2.45-GHz *** a result,near the radiation nulls,the SnR is improved by 6 *** compact construction and efficient current suppression facilitate the application of HMAs in multi-antenna systems above a finite ground with uniform coverage and reliable connections.
