Effect of reduction pretreatment on the structure and catalytic performance of Ir-In_(2)O_(3)catalysts for CO_(2) hydrogenation to methanol

In_(2)O_(3)has been found a promising application in CO_(2)hydrogenation to methanol,which is beneficial to the utilization of CO_(2).The oxygen vacancy(O_(v))site is identified as the catalytic active center of this reaction.However,there remains a great challenge to understand the relations between the state of oxygen species in In_(2)O_(3)and the catalytic performance for CO_(2)hydrogenation to methanol.In the present work,we compare the properties of multiple In_(2)O_(3)and Ir-promoted In_(2)O_(3)(Ir-In_(2)O_(3))catalysts with different Ir loadings and after being pretreated under different reduction temperatures.The CO_(2)conversion rate of Ir-In_(2)O_(3)is more promoted than that of pure In_(2)O_(3).With only a small amount of Ir loading,the highly dispersed Ir species on In_(2)O_(3)increase the concentration of O_(v)sites and enhance the activity.By finely tuning the catalyst structure,Ir-In_(2)O_(3)with an Ir loading of 0.16 wt.%and pre-reduction treatment under 300℃exhibits the highest methanol yield of 146 mgCH_(3)OH/(gcat·hr).Characterizations of Raman,electron paramagnetic resonance,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,CO_(2)-temperature programmed desorption and CO_(2)-pulse adsorption for the catalysts confirm that more O_(v)sites can be generated under higher reduction temperature,which will induce a facile CO_(2)adsorption and desorption cycle.Higher performance for methanol production requires an adequate dynamic balance among the surface oxygen atoms and vacancies,which guides us to find more suitable conditions for catalyst pretreatment and reaction.

This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR problem.In particular,the authors propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value function.This method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration,and thus,the proposed approach is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing methods.Three numerical examples are presented in this paper to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Traditional inspection cameras determine targets and detect defects by capturing images of their light intensity,but in complex environments,the accuracy of inspection may decrease.Information based on polarization of light can characterize various features of a material,such as the roughness,texture,and refractive index,thus improving classification and recognition of targets.This paper uses a method based on noise template threshold matching to denoise and preprocess polarized images.It also reports on design of an image fusion algorithm,based on NSCT transform,to fuse light intensity images and polarized images.The results show that the fused image improves both subjective and objective evaluation indicators,relative to the source image,and can better preserve edge information and help to improve the accuracy of target recognition.This study provides a reference for the comprehensive application of multi-dimensional optical information in power inspection.

In a typical parabolic trough collector(PTC), sunlight is concentrated at the bottom of the absorber tube. This concentrated solar flux leads to uneven heat distribution, resulting in high local temperatures and significant thermal stress on the absorber tube.These limitations have restricted the application of PTCs in solar thermochemistry and other fields and have impacted their safe operation. In this study, a new PTC with dual planar mirrors(DPMS) is proposed to homogenize the circumferential solar flux distribution of the absorber tube. A design method and single-objective optimization of the new PTC with a DPMS are proposed,and an uncertainty analysis of the operational and structural parameters is performed. A coupled light-heat-structure numerical model was developed to study the heat transfer performance and structural mechanical properties. The thermodynamic properties of the PTC with DPMS under different boundary conditions were analyzed. The results show that the circumferential temperature difference of the new PTC is within 2.6 K, and the circumferential thermal deformation is within 0.9 mm under typical working conditions(the inlet velocity of the heat transfer fluid is 3 m/s, inlet temperature is 573.15 K, and the direct normal irradiance is 1000 W/m^(2)). Compared with conventional PTCs, the circumferential temperature difference is reduced by 74%–90%, and the maximum thermal deformation along the y-axis is reduced by more than 95% under all working conditions(1–5 m/s, 373.5–675.15 K, 200–1000 W/m^(2)). The new PTC maintains the uniformity of the circumferential solar flux distribution for different operating parameters(sun incident angle of 0°–3°) and installation errors(±3 mm), is suitable for solar energy applications in various fields, and has the potential for large-scale applications.

In conventional parabolic trough collectors(PTCs),sunlight is concentrated at the bottom of the absorber tube,resulting in a significant circumferential temperature gradient across the absorber tube,heat loss and thermal deformation,which affects the safety and thermal performance of PTCs.In this study,a new receiver with homogenizer and spiral(RHS) is proposed,achieving the optical and thermal synergy to ameliorate the thermal deformation of the absorber tube and enhance thermal efficiency.A plane structure homogenizer is designed to improve uniformity of the concentrated solar flux of absorber tube through second reflection.In combination with the spiral,it improves the optical-thermal efficiency of the PTC by enhancing heat exchange between the fluid and the backlight side of the absorber tube.The performance of the collector is numerically studied by building a three-dimensional coupled light-thermal-structure model.The results show that the thermal deformation of the RHS is reduced by more than 96% and the optical-thermal efficiency is improved by 1.2%-0.63% compared with conventional receivers(CRs) under the same inlet temperature conditions.The proposed receiver is validated to be effective in reducing thermal deformation and improving optical-thermal efficiency.

The task to estimate all the parameters of an unknown quantum state, also called quantum state tomography, is essential for characterizing and controlling quantum systems. In this paper, we utilize observable time traces to identify the initial quantum state of a closed quantum system, based on the state space approach in the control theory. In the informationally complete scenario, we show that with a linear regression estimation (LRE), the mean squared error (MSE) scales as , where N is the resource number. In the informationally incomplete scenario, we introduce regularization LRE to perform the state tomography task. We employ PBH test to demonstrate that closed quantum systems with only one observable are informationally incomplete and propose using observables, where d is the dimension of the quantum state, for informational completeness. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

For the efficient use of solar and fuels and to improve the supply-demand matching performance in combined heat and power(CHP)systems,this paper proposes a hybrid solar/methanol energy system integrating solar/exhaust thermochemical and thermal energy storage.The proposed system includes parabolic trough solar collectors(PTSC),a thermochemical reactor,an internal combustion engine(ICE),and hybrid storage of thermal and chemical energy,which uses solar energy and methanol fuel as input and outputs power and heat.With methanol thermochemical decomposition reaction,mid-and-low temperature solar heat and exhaust heat are upgraded to chemical energy for efficient power generation.The thermal energy storage(TES)stores surplus thermal energy,acting as a backup source to produce heat without emitting CO_(2).Due to the energy storage,time-varying solar energy can be used steadily and efficiently;considerable supply-demand mismatches can be avoided,and the operational flexibility is improved.Under the design condition,the overall energy efficiency,exergy efficiency,and net solar-to-electric efficiency achieve 72.09%,37.65%,and 24.63%,respectively.The fuel saving rate(FSR)and the CO_(2) emission reduction(ER_(CO_(2)))achieve 32.97%and 25.33%,respectively.The research findings provide a promising approach for the efficient and flexible use of solar energy and fuels for combined heat and power.

The performance of lignin depolymerization is basically determined by the interunit C–O and C–C bonds.Numerous C–O bond cleavage strategies have been developed, while the cleavage of C–C bond between the primary aromatic units remains a challenging task due to the high dissociation energy of C–C bond.Herein, a multifunctional Ru Re alloy catalyst was designed, which exhibited exceptional catalytic activity for the cleavage of both C–O and C–C linkages in a broad range of lignin model compounds(β-1, a-5, 5–5,β-O-4, 4-O-5) and two stubborn lignins(kraft lignin and alkaline lignin), affording 97.5% overall yield of monocyclic compounds from model compounds and up to 129% of the maximum theoretical yield of monocyclic products based on C–O bonds cleavage from realistic lignin. Scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM) characterization showed that Ru Re(1:1) alloy particles with hexagonal close-packed structure were homogeneously dispersed on the support. Quasi-in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) indicate that Ru species were predominantly metallic state, whereas Re species were partially oxidized;meanwhile, there was a strong interaction between Ru and Re, where the electron transfer from Re to Ru was occurred, resulting in great improvement on the capability of C–O and C–C bonds cleavage in lignin conversion.

Mercury is a threatening pollutant in food,herein,we developed a Tb^(3+)-nucleic acid probe-based label-free assay for mix-and-read,rapid detection of mercury pollution.The assay utilized the feature of light-up fluorescence of terbium ions(Tb^(3+))via binding with single-strand DNA.Mercury ion,Hg^(2+)induced thymine(T)-rich DNA strand to form a double-strand structure(T-Hg^(2+)-T),thus leading to fluorescence reduction.Based on the principle,Hg^(2+)can be quantified based on the fluorescence of Tb^(3+),the limit of detection was 0.0689μmol/L and the linear range was 0.1-6.0μmol/L.Due to the specificity of T-Hg^(2+)-T artificial base pair,the assay could distinguish Hg^(2+)from other metal ions.The recovery rate was ranged in 98.71%-101.34%for detecting mercury pollution in three food samples.The assay is low-cost,separation-free and mix-to-read,thus was a competitive tool for detection of mercury pollution to ensure food safety.
