Efficacy and risk factors for anxiety and depression after miniincision hip arthroplasty for femoral head osteonecrosis

BACKGROUND Osteonecrosis of the femoral head(ONFH)is a prevalent orthopedic issue,leading to the collapse and fragmentation of the femoral head in its advanced stages,which can severely impair patients'quality of life.Total hip arthroplasty(THA)is a clinical intervention frequently used to alleviate ONFH symptoms and reinstate hip functionality.The conventional surgical technique is invasive and comes with an extended recuperation period,posing significant challenges for patients.With the progression of medical technology,the use of the mini-incision technique in minimally invasive THA(MITHA)has become more prevalent.However,comparative studies examining the effectiveness of these two surgical procedures in treating ONFH remain scarce.Furthermore,understanding patients'psychological well-being is crucial given its profound influence on postoperative recuperation.AIM To evaluate the impact of mini-incision MITHA on ONFH treatment and to identify the risk factors associated with postoperative anxiety and depression.METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 125 patients treated for ONFH at Xi’an Hong Hui Hospital between February 2020 and January 2022,with the term"consecutive"indicating that these patients were treated in an unbroken sequence without any selection.Among these,60 patients(control group)underwent traditional THA,while 65 patients(observation group)were treated with miniincision MITHA.Variations in the visual analog scale(VAS)score and the Harris hip score were monitored.Additionally,shifts in pre-and posttreatment Hamilton anxiety(HAMA)and Hamilton depression(HAMD)scale scores were recorded.Patients with both postoperative HAMA and HAMD scores of≥8 were identified as those experiencing negative emotions.Logistic regression was utilized to analyze the determinants influencing these negative emotional outcomes.Comparative analyses of surgical and postoperative metrics between the two groups were also conducted.RESULTS Posttreatment results indicated a significantly higher VAS score in the control

Application of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy in curative surgery for esophageal cancer:A metaanalysis

BACKGROUND The effectiveness of neoadjuvant therapy in esophageal cancer(EC)treatment is still a subject of debate.AIM To compare the clinical efficacy and toxic side effects between neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy(nCRT)and neoadjuvant chemotherapy(nCT)for locally advanced EC(LAEC).METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted using multiple databases,including PubMed,EMBASE,MEDLINE,Science Direct,The Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Database,Chinese Science and Technology Journal Database,and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database Article.Studies up to December 2022 comparing nCRT and nCT in patients with EC were selected.RESULTS The analysis revealed significant differences between nCRT and nCT in terms of disease-free survival.The results indicated that nCRT provided better outcomes in terms of the 3-year overall survival rate(OSR)[odds ratio(OR)=0.95],complete response rate(OR=3.15),and R0 clearance rate(CR)(OR=2.25).However,nCT demonstrated a better 5-year OSR(OR=1.02)than nCRT.Moreover,when compared to nCRT,nCT showed reduced risks of cardiac complications(OR=1.15)and pulmonary complications(OR=1.30).CONCLUSION Overall,both nCRT and nCT were effective in terms of survival outcomes for LAEC.However,nCT exhibited better performance in terms of postoperative complications.

Visual observation of photonic Floquet–Bloch oscillations

Bloch oscillations(BOs),an important transport phenomenon,have been studied extensively in static systems but remain mysterious in Floquet systems.Here,by harnessing notions from photonic analogy,we propose a generalization of the existing BOs in photonic Floquet lattices,namely the“photonic Floquet–Bloch oscillations”,which refer to rescaled photonic Bloch oscillations with a period of extended least common multiple of the modulation period and the Bloch oscillation period.Next,we report the first visual observation of such photonic Floquet–Bloch oscillations(FBOs)by employing waveguide fluorescence microscopy.Most significantly,the FBOs surpass the existing BOs in Floquet systems and exhibit exotic properties on their own,including fractal spectrum and fractional Floquet tunneling.This new transport mechanism offers an intriguing method of wave manipulation that may contribute to rapidly developing fields in photonics,condensed matter physics,and quantum physics.

Rotational Bose-Einstein condensates can exhibit quantized vortices as topological excitations.In this study,the ground and excited states of the rotational Bose-Einstein condensates are systematically studied by calculating the stationary points of the Gross-Pitaevskii energy functional.Various excited states and their connections at different rotational frequencies are revealed in solution landscapes constructed with the constrained high-index saddle dynamics method.Four excitation mechanisms are identified:vortex addition,rearrangement,merging,and splitting.We demonstrate changes in the ground state with increasing rotational frequencies and decipher the evolution of the stability of ground states.

Enhanced hepatic metabolic perturbation of polystyrene nanoplastics by UV irradiation-induced hydroxyl radical generation

The environmental behavior of and risks associated with nanoplastics(NPs)have attracted considerable attention.However,compared to pristine NPs,environmental factors such as ultraviolet(UV)irradiation that lead to changes in the toxicity of NPs have rarely been studied.We evaluated the changes in morphology and physicochemical properties of polystyrene(PS)NPs before and after UV irradiation,and compared their hepatotoxicity in mice.The results showed that UV irradiation caused particle size reduction and increased the carbonyl index(CI)and negative charge on the particle surface.UV-aged PS NPs(aPS NPs)could induce the generation of hydroxyl radicals(·OH),but also further promoted the generation of·OH in the Fenton reaction system.Hepatic pathological damage was more severe in mice exposed to aPS NPs,accompanied by a large number of vacuoles and hepatocyte balloon-like changes and more marked perturbations in blood glucose and serum lipoprotein,alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels.In addition,exposure to PS NPs and aPS NPs,especially aPS NPs,triggered oxidative stress and significantly damaged the antioxidant capacity of mice liver.Compared with PS NPs,exposure to aPS NPs increased the number of altered metabolites in hepatic and corresponding metabolic pathways,especially glutathione metabolism.Our research suggests that UV irradiation can disrupt the redox balance in organisms by promoting the production of·OH,enhancing PS NPs-induced liver damage and metabolic disorders.This study will help us understand the health risks of NPs and to avoid underestimation of the risks of NPs in nature.

Different lymph node staging systems for predicting the prognosis of colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms

BACKGROUND Colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms(NENs)are a rare malignancy that primarily arises from the diffuse distribution of neuroendocrine cells in the colon and rectum.Previous studies have pointed out that the status of lymph node may be used to predict the prognosis.AIM To investigate the predictive values of lymph node ratio(LNR),positive lymph node(PLN),and log odds of PLNs(LODDS)staging systems on the prognosis of colorectal NENs treated surgically,and compare their predictive values.METHODS This cohort study included 895 patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database.The endpoint was mortality of patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically.X-tile software was utilized to identify most suitable thresholds for categorizing the LNR,PLN,and LODDS.Participants were selected in a random manner to form training and testing sets.The prognosis of surgically treating colorectal NENs was examined using multivariate cox analysis to assess the associations of LNR,PLN,and LODDS with the prognosis of colorectal NENs.C-index was used for assessing the predictive effectiveness.We conducted a subgroup analysis to explore the different lymph node staging systems’predictive values.RESULTS After adjusting all confounding factors,PLN,LNR and LODDS staging systems were linked with mortality in patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically(P<0.05).We found that LODDS staging had a higher prognostic value for patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically than PLN and LNR staging systems.Similar results were obtained in the different G staging subgroup analyses.Furthermore,the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values for LODDS staging system remained consistently higher than those of PLN or LNR,even at the 1-,2-,3-,4-,5-and 6-year follow-up periods.CONCLUSION LNR,PLN,and LODDS were found to significantly predict the prognosis of patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically.

Sedimentary Environment and Mineralization of the Black Shale Polymetallic Layer in the Early Cambrian,SW China:Constraints from in situ LA-ICP-MS Analysis of Pyrite

A polymetallic layer is usually developed at the bottom of the early Cambrian black shale in Guizhou Province.The mineral that makes up the polymetallic layer is related to the sedimentary facies.To analyze the differentiation mechanism between polymetallic deposits(Ni-Mo and V),the Zhijin Gezhongwu profile located in the outer shelf and the Sansui Haishan V deposit located in the lower slope are selected to study the in situ sulfur isotopes and trace elements of pyrite.The results show that δ^(34)S values of pyrite vary widely from−7.8‰to 28‰in the Gezhongwu profile,while the δ^(34)S values are relatively uniform(from 27.8‰to 38.4‰)in the Haishan profile.The isotopic S composition is consistent with the transition that occurs in the sedimentary phase from the shelf to the deep sea on the transgressive Yangtze platform;this indicates that the δ^(34)SO_(4)^(2−)values in seawater must be differently distributed in depositional environments.The sulfur in the Ni-Mo layer is produced after the mixing of seawater and hydrothermal fluid,while the V layer mainly originates from seawater.Overall,the Ni-Mo and V deposits have been differentiated primarily on the basis of the combined effect of continental weathering and hydrothermal fluid.

Reliable calculations of nuclear binding energies by the Gaussian process of machine learning

Reliable calculations of nuclear binding energies are crucial for advancing the research of nuclear physics.Machine learning provides an innovative approach to exploring complex physical problems.In this study,the nuclear binding energies are modeled directly using a machine-learning method called the Gaussian process.First,the binding energies for 2238 nuclei with Z>20 and N>20 are calculated using the Gaussian process in a physically motivated feature space,yielding an average deviation of 0.046 MeV and a standard deviation of 0.066 MeV.The results show the good learning ability of the Gaussian process in the studies of binding energies.Then,the predictive power of the Gaussian process is studied by calculating the binding energies for 108 nuclei newly included in AME2020.The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental data,reflecting the good predictive power of the Gaussian process.Moreover,the-decay energies for 1169 nuclei with 50≤Z≤110 are derived from the theoretical binding energies calculated using the Gaussian process.The average deviation and the standard deviation are,respectively,0.047 MeV and 0.070 MeV.Noticeably,the calculated-decay energies for the two new isotopes 204 Ac(Huang et al.Phys Lett B 834,137484(2022))and 207 Th(Yang et al.Phys Rev C 105,L051302(2022))agree well with the latest experimental data.These results demonstrate that the Gaussian pro-cess is reliable for the calculations of nuclear binding energies.Finally,the-decay properties of some unknown actinide nuclei are predicted using the Gaussian process.The predicted results can be useful guides for future research on binding energies and-decay properties.

Experimental and numerical study of hypervelocity impact damage on composite overwrapped pressure vessels

Ground-based tests are important for studying hypervelocity impact(HVI)damage to spacecraft pressure vessels in the orbital debris environment.We analyzed the damage to composite overwrapped pressure vessels(COPVs)in the HVI tests and classified the damage into non-catastrophic damage and catastrophic damage.We proposed a numerical simulation method to further study non-catastrophic damage and revealed the characteristics and mechanisms of non-catastrophic damage affected by impact conditions and internal pressures.The fragments of the catastrophically damaged COPVs were collected after the tests.The crack distribution and propagation process of the catastrophic ruptures of the COPVs were analyzed.Our findings contribute to understanding the damage characteristics and mechanisms of COPVs by HVIs.

One-step pore diffusion mechanism of Li+ in solid electrolyte interphase for fast-charging lithium-ion battery

Li+transport in solid electrolyte interphase is recognized as important factor,which has become a research hotspot.Recently,an one-step pore diffusion mechanism for Li+transport through solid electrolyte interphase was proposed,which was different from previous two-step mechanism.Such one-step pore diffusion process could effectively eliminate the dynamic limitations of Li+transport in solid electrolyte interphase （SEI） for rapid charging process.The work will contribute to the development of rapid charging lithium-ion batteries.
