Probing quantum causality with geometric asymmetry in spatial-temporal correlations

Causation promotes the understanding of correlation to an advanced stage by elucidating its underlying mechanism. Although statisticians have specified the possible causal relations among correlations,inferring causal structures is impossible from only the observed correlations in the classical world. Quantum correlations encapsulating the most defining aspects of quantum physics have taken a new turn for the causal inference problem — the two-point spatial and temporal quantum correlations with observationally discernible characteristics correspond exactly to the two most basic causal structures. However, a direct causal interpretation for quantum correlations has only been established in very limited cases. Here, we explore to what extent quantum correlations promote causal inference. Theoretically, we have found that the distinguishable causal regime of two-point Pauli correlations can be expanded from a single value to an asymmetric interval, and the causal structures determining the quantum correlations can be interpreted by a simple distance criterion. Experimentally, we have devised and implemented a versatile non-unital quantum channel in an optical architecture to directly observe such an asymmetric interval. The setup enabled quantum causal inference without any requirement of active intervention, which is impossible in the classical realm. Our work facilitates the identification of causal links among quantum variables and provides insight into characterizing causation and spatial-temporal correlation in quantum mechanics.

The octupole deformation and collectivity in octupole double-magic nucleus 144Ba are investigated using the Cranking covariant density functional theory in a three-dimensional lattice *** reduced B(E3)transition probability is implemented for the first time in semiclassical approximation based on the microscopically calculated electric octupole *** available data,including the I-ωrelation and electric transitional probabilities B(E2)and B(E3)are well ***,it is shown that the ground state of 144Ba exhibits axial octupole and quadrupole deformations that persist up to high spins(I≈24h).

Thermal stress reduction of GaAs epitaxial growth on V-groove patterned Si substrates

We investigate the thermal stresses for GaAs layers grown on V-groove patterned Si substrates by the finite-element method. The results show that the thermal stress distribution near the interface in a patterned substrate is nonuniform,which is far different from that in a planar substrate. Comparing with the planar substrate, the thermal stress is significantly reduced for the Ga As layer on the patterned substrate. The effects of the width of the V-groove, the thickness, and the width of the SiO_(2) mask on the thermal stress are studied. It is found that the SiO_(2) mask and V-groove play a crucial role in the stress of the Ga As layer on Si substrate. The results indicate that when the width of V-groove is 50 nm, the width and the thickness of the SiO_(2) mask are both 100 nm, the Ga As layer is subjected to the minimum stress. Furthermore,Comparing with the planar substrate, the average stress of the Ga As epitaxial layer in the growth window region of the patterned substrate is reduced by 90%. These findings are useful in the optimal designing of growing high-quality Ga As films on patterned Si substrates.

Corrosion behavior of Al_(2)O_(3)-C bricks in MnO-containing mold slag

In order to explore the corrosion mechanism of Al_(2)O_(3)-C refractories in the mold flux bearing MnO,the immersion test of Al_(2)O_(3)-C refractories in CaO-SiO2-CaF2-MnO slag with different MnO contents was carried out at 1550℃.The results show that Mn particles were observed in the slag after experiment,due to the reduction of MnO by graphite in *** amounts of graphite were observed at the interface between refractories and slag,indicating that the oxidation of graphite is limited by the poor contact between graphite and molten ***,the oxidation of graphite is not the main cause of damage to refractories.A small quantity of CaO·2Al_(2)O_(3)(CA_(2))and CaO·6Al_(2)O_(3)(CA_(6))adjacent to Al_(2)O_(3) grain was detected at the slag/reaction layer ***_(2) and CA_(6) possess relatively high melting points,which is beneficial to hindering the further penetration of ***,the dissolution of Al_(2)O_(3) into slag is still the main cause for refractories *** increase in the MnO content of mold slag decreases the viscosity and then results in the severe corrosion of Al_(2)O_(3)-C bricks.

Spectral Fittings of Warm Coronal Radiation with High Seed Photon Temperature:Apparent Low-temperature and Flat Soft Excess in AGNs

A warm corona has been widely proposed to explain the soft excess(SE)in X-ray above the 2-10 ke V power law extrapolation in Active Galactic Nuclei(AGNs).In actual spectral fittings,the warm coronal seed photon temperature(T_s)is usually assumed to be far away from the soft X-ray,but kT_scan reach close to 0.1 ke V in the standard accretion disk *** this study,we used Monte Carlo simulations to obtain radiation spectra from a slab-like warm corona and fitted the spectra using the spherical-geometry-based routine THCOMP or a thermal *** findings reveal tha high T_scan influence the fitting results.A moderately high kT_s(around 0.03 ke V)can result in an apparent low-temperature and flat SE,while an extremely high kT_s(around 0.07 ke V)can even produce an unobserved blackbody-like *** conclusions indicate that,for spectral fittings of the warm coronal radiation(SE in AGNs),kT_sshould be treated as a free parameter with an upper limit,and an accurate coronal geometry is necessary when kT_s>0.01 ke V.

A novel dandelion-based bionic proppant and its transportation mechanism in different types of fractures

Low-permeability reservoirs are generally characterized by low porosity and low permeability. Obtaining high production using the traditional method is technologically challenging because it yields a low reservoir recovery factor. In recent years, hydraulic fracturing technology is widely applied for efficiently exploiting and developing low-permeability reservoirs using a low-viscosity fluid as a fracturing ***, the transportation of the proppant is inefficient in the low-viscosity fluid, and the proppant has a low piling-up height in fracture channels. These key challenges restrict the fluid(natural gas or oil) flow in fracture channels and their functional flow areas, reducing the profits of hydrocarbon *** study aimed to explore and develop a novel dandelion-bionic proppant by modifying the surface of the proppant and the fiber. Its structure was similar to that of dandelion seeds, and it had high transport and stacking efficiency in low-viscosity liquids compared with the traditional ***, the transportation efficiency of this newly developed proppant was investigated experimentally using six different types of fracture models(tortuous fracture model, rough fracture model,narrow fracture model, complex fracture model, large-scale single fracture model, and small-scale single fracture model). Experimental results indicated that, compared with the traditional proppant, the transportation efficiency and the packing area of the dandelion-based bionic proppant significantly improved in tap water or low-viscosity fluid. Compared with the traditional proppant, the dandelionbased bionic proppant had 0.1-4 times longer transportation length, 0.3-5 times higher piling-up height, and 2-10 times larger placement area. The newly developed proppant also had some other extraordinary features. The tortuosity of the fracture did not influence the transportation of the novel proppant. Refractories have an important effect on the cleanliness of molten *** interaction between CeAlO_(3) refractories and Ce treated steel was explored and compared with that between Al_(2)O_(3) refractories and Ce treated *** results show that the Ce content in steel decreases sharply after contact with Al_(2)O_(3) refractories and the pick-up of dissolved Al *** with the test of Al_(2)O_(3) refractories,the loss of Ce content is less in the test of CeAlO_(3) refractory,and the total oxygen content and dissolved Al content in steel increase *** dense and continuous Ce_(2)O_(2)S interface layer is observed at the CeAlO_(3) refractories/steel interface,which can serve as the metallurgical isolation layer and hinder the further interaction between refractories and ***,the higher steel cleanliness and less penetration of refractories by molten steel are obtained in the test of CeAlO_(3) *** CeAlO_(3) refractories show a promising prospect in the production of clean Ce treated steel.
