SeeMore: a spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation

Predicting future frames using historical spatiotemporal data sequences is challenging and critical, and it is receiving a lot of attention these days from academic and industrial scholars. Most spatiotemporal predictive algorithms ignore the valuable backward reasoning ability and the disparate learning complexities among different layers and hence, cannot build good long-term dependencies and spatial correlations,resulting in suboptimal solutions. To address the aforementioned issues, we propose a two-stage coarse-to-fine spatiotemporal predictive model with bidirectional distillation and level-specific meta-adaptation(See More)in this paper, which includes a bidirectional distillation network(BDN) and a level-specific meta-adapter(LMA), to gain bidirectional multilevel reasoning. In the first stage, BDN concentrates on bidirectional dynamics modeling and coarsely constructs spatial correlations of different layers, while LMA is introduced in the second fine-tuning stage to refine the multilevel spatial correlations from a meta-learning *** particular, BDN mimics the forward and backward reasoning abilities of humans in a distillation manner,which aids in the development of long-term dependencies. The LMA views learning of different layers as disparate but related tasks and guides the transfer of learning experiences among these tasks through learning complexities. Thus, each layer could be closer to its solutions and could extract more informative spatial correlations. By capturing the enhanced short-term spatial correlations and long-term temporal dependencies,the proposed model could extract adequate knowledge from sequential historical observations and accurately predict future frames whose backtracking preconditions are consistent with the historical sequence. Effectively improving the extreme-pressure capacity of a class of intercalated zirconium phosphate materials

We studied different long-chain ammonium ions intercalated zirconium phosphate α-ZrP, methylamine intercalated ZrP(MAZrP), tetramethylammonium hydroxide intercalated ZrP(TMAH-ZrP), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide intercalated ZrP(DTAB-ZrP), and stearyl trimethyl ammonium bromide intercalated ZrP(STAB-ZrP) as grease co-additives in combination with isobutylene sulfide(SIB). The grease with co-additives displayed excellent extreme-pressure and anti-wear ***, the combination of the longest chain ammonium ion intercalated zirconium phosphate, STAB-ZrP/SIB, had the best tribological properties. In comparison to α-ZrP, the advantage of STAB-ZrP was that it did not form a large area of the dense physical film like α-ZrP on the worn surface, but rather gave the SIB a chance to contact with the fresh metal surface to generate a chemical film. Therefore, the sub-micron physical film and nanoscale chemical film always exist side by side on the contact surface during the friction process. This intercalated α-ZrP/SIB additive has great potential for use in harsh operating conditions.

Measurement of the high energyγ-rays from heavy ion reactions usingČerenkov detector

The energetic bremsstrahlung photons up to 100 MeV produced in heavy ion collisions can be used as a sensitive probe for short-range correlation in atomic nuclei. The energy of the γ-rays can be measured by collecting the Čerenkov light in the medium induced by the fast electrons generated in the Compton scattering or electromagnetic shower of the incident γray. Two types of detectors based on pure water and lead glass as sensitive materials were designed for this purpose. The γresponse and optical photon propagation in the detectors were simulated based on electromagnetic and optical processes in Geant4. The inherent energy resolutions of 0.022(4) + 0.51(2)∕E^(1/2)_(γ) for water and 0.0026(3) + 0.446(3)∕E^(1/2)_(γ) for lead glass were obtained. The geometry sizes of the lead glass and water were optimized to 30 cm × 30 cm × 30 cm and 60 cm × 60 cm ×120 cm, respectively, to detect high-energy γ-rays at 160 MeV. The Hough transform method was applied to reconstruct the direction of the incident γ-rays, providing the ability to experimentally distinguish the high-energy γ-rays produced in the reactions on the target from random background cosmic-ray muons.

The adenosine monophosphate(AMP)-activated protein kinase(AMPK)sits at a cen-tral node in the regulation of energy metabolism and tumor *** is best known to sense high cellular ADP or AMP levels,which indicate the depletion of energy *** studies have shown that the low expression of phosphorylated AMPK is associated with a poor prognosis of pancreatic *** this study,we report that AMPK is also highly sensitive to extracellular matrix(ECM)*** found that AMPK is activated in cells when cultured under low ECM stiffness conditions and is functionally required for the metabolic switch induced by ECM *** regulation of AMPK requires the Hippo kinases but not LKB1/*** kinases directly phosphorylate AMPKa at Thr172 to activate AMPK at low ECM ***,we found AMPK activity is inhibited in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)with high ECM stiffness and is associated with a poor survival *** activation of Hippo kinases by ROCK inhibitor Y-27632 in combination with the mitochondrial inhibitor metformin synergistically activates AMPK and dramatically inhibits PDAC ***,these findings establish a novel model for AMPK regulation by the mechanical properties of ECMs and provide a rationale for simultaneously targeting the ECM stiffness-Hippo kinases-AMPK signaling and low glucose-LKB1-AMPK signaling pathways as an effective therapeutic strategy against PDAC.

Enhancing photoresponsiveness of metal-organic polyhedra by modifying microenvironment

Photoresponsiveness of materials is critical to their tunability and efficiency in terminal *** metal-organic polyhedra(PMOPs)feature intrinsic pores and remote controllability,but aggregation of PMOPs in solid state hampers their photoresponsiveness ***,we report the construction of a new PMOP(Cu_(24)(C_(16)H_(12)N_(2)O_(4))_(12)(C_(18)H_(22)O_(5))12,denoted as MOP-PR-LA),where long alkyl(LA)chains act as the intermolecular poles,propping against adjacent PMOP molecules to create individual microenvironment benefiting the isomerization of photoresponsive(PR)*** ultraviolet(UV)-and visible-light irradiation,MOP-PR-LA is much easier to isomerize than the counterpart MOP-PR without *** propylene adsorption,MOP-PR has a low change of adsorption capacity(9.9%),while that of MOP-PR-LA reaches 58.6%.Density functional theory calculations revealed that PR in the cis state has a negative effect on adsorption,while the trans state of PR favors *** work might open an avenue for the construction of photoresponsive materials with high responsiveness and controllability.

The rapid development of computational technology and the increasing energy demand have improved heat exchanger network(HEN)*** HEN synthesis involves several optimizations of matches,distributions of heat loads,and stream splitting of heat ***,obtaining good results at high efficiency has been the main standard for evaluating the techniques in the research area of HEN *** paper first summarizes and analyzes the main contributions of the existing HEN synthesis *** compare related data quantitively,information on ten typical cases is presented in this ***,recently improved solutions for commonly encountered existing literature cases demonstrate the evolution and competition trends in the field of HEN *** comparison data presented in this paper not only provide a useful reference for future research but also present the optimization *** on the findings of this study,it is noted that there is still a large room for improvement,and current approaches are incapable of dealing with all HEN ***,it is still difficult to escape a local optimum and overcome structural constraints when seeking the global *** a follow-up to the current work,the parallel computing mode and adaptively coordinating the ratio of global and local searching abilities are major development trends for future investigation.
