Biological soil crusts and their potential applications in the sand land over Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is now experiencing ecological degradation risks as a result of climate change and human activities.The alpine grassland ecology in permafrost zones is fragile and susceptible to deterioration due to its high altitude,low temperature,and limited oxygen,which complicates the repair of damaged land.Biological soil crusts(BSCs)are crucial for land restoration in plateau regions because they can thrive in harsh conditions and have environmentally beneficial traits.Inoculated biological soil crust(IBSC)has shown success in low-altitude desert regions,but may not be easily duplicated to the plateau environment.Therefore,it is essential to do a comprehensive and multifaceted analysis of the basic theoretical comprehension and practical application of BSCs on the Tibetan Plateau.This review article aims to provide a brief summary of the ecological significance and the mechanisms related to the creation,growth,and progression of BSCs.It discusses the techniques used for cultivating BSCs in laboratories and using them in the field,focusing on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau circumstance.We thoroughly discussed the potential and the required paths for further studies.This study may be used as a basis for selecting suitable microbial strains and accompanying supplemental actions for implementing IBSCs in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Renal cell carcinoma,which consists of three main histological subtypes,namely,clear cell renal cell carcinoma(ccRCC),papillary RCC(pRCC),and chromophobe RCC(chRCC),accounts for most kidney cancer cases.ccRCC accounts for approximately 85%of all RcC cases,1 and it is a malignant tumor with multiple molecular features and a poor prognosis.Studies have shown that ccRCC is one of the most immune and vaso-invasive cancer types.2 Considering that ccRCC is not sensitive to either radiotherapy or chemotherapy,targeted therapies.

Synergistic enhancement of Ce-ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)photocatalytic performance using N,O-bis-vacancy induction and S-scheme heterojunctions

The photocatalytic decontamination of organic pollutants is an environmentally friendly and efficient water treatment method.The introduction of vacancies,heterojunctions,and doping can enhance the performance of photocatalysts for such applications.In this study,N,O double-vacancy Ce-ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts were prepared,It is found that the electron separation and transfer efficiencies are considerably improved by the presence of nitrogen vacancies in graphitic ca rbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))and oxygen vacancies in ZnO,in addition to the S-scheme heterojunction created between the two materials.In the degradation of methylene blue and ciprofloxacin,the degradation rates exhibited by Ce-ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)are significantly higher than those of the g=C_(3)N_(4)/ZnO system.This remarkable photocatalytic performance of Ce-ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)may result from three key factors;(ⅰ)Ce doping,which produces impurity energy levels;(ⅱ)the generation of electron capture centres by the N and O vacancies;and(ⅲ)the synergistic effect of the S-type heterojunction formed at the interface between the two materials,This study therefore provides new approaches for the use of doping,vacancies,and heterojunctions to induce the efficient degradation of organic pollutants.

Ultrasound-guided paravertebral nerve block anesthesia for percutaneous endoscopic laser unroofing treatment of symptomatic simple renal cysts—An innovative ambulatory surgery mode

Objective:This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility,efficacy,and safety of percutaneous ureteroscopy laser unroofing as an ambulatory surgery for symptomatic simple renal cysts under multilevel paravertebral nerve block anesthesia.Methods:From December 2015 to September 2017,33 simple renal cyst patients who had surgical indications were enrolled.Under ultrasound guidance,the T10/T11,T11/T12,and T12/L1 paravertebral spaces were identified,and 7-10 mL 0.5%ropivacaine was injected at each segment.Then a puncture needle was placed inside the cyst cavity under ultrasonic monitoring.A guidewire was introduced followed by sequential dilation up to 28/30 Fr.The extra parenchymal portion of the cyst wall was dissociated and incised using a thulium laser,and a pathological examination was performed.Results:Sensory loss to pinprick from T8 to L1 and sensory loss to ice from T6 to L2 were observed in all patients.None of the patients complained of pain during surgery.No serious complications occurred perioperatively.After the surgery,all patients recovered their lower limb muscle strength quickly,got out of bed,resumed oral feeding,and left the hospital within 24 h of admission.The pathologic diagnosis of all cyst walls was a simple renal cyst.The mean follow-up was 35.8 months.At the end of follow-up,the cyst units were reduced in size by more than 50%compared to the preoperative size,and no patient experienced a recurrence.Conclusion:Multi-level paravertebral nerve block for percutaneous ureteroscopy laser unroofing as an ambulatory surgery mode is feasible,safe,and effective for the treatment of simple renal cysts in selected patients.

Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of selective laser-melted PH13-8Mo stainless steel

PH13-8Mo stainless steel powder with high sphericity and well fluidity was prepared by the plasma rotating electrode process.The formed parts with ultra-high purity were manufactured by selective laser melting.The tensile and impact mechanical properties of the printed parts under three heat treatment regimes were compared to those without heat treatment.The microstructure,grain orientation and phase composition were characterized by electron-backscatter diffraction,X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.The characterization results reveal that the addition of heat treatment makes the grains enlarge,and after different heat treatments,the average grain size from 1.51μm in the printed state increases to 2.78,3.09 and 2.06μm,respectively.The formed parts are mainly composed of martensite and retained austenite.Moreover,the NiAl and M23C precipitates form,which are the major strengthening phases of PH13-8Mo stainless steel.The optimal heat treatment process is 925℃×1 h water cooling(WC)+0℃×2 h air cooling(AC)+540℃×4 h AC.Using this heat treatment process,PH13-8Mo formed parts have the optimal comprehensive mechanical properties:the tensile strength,yield strength and impact energy KU2 are 1492 MPa,1432 MPa and 63 J,respectively.The strengthening and toughening via heat treatment are mainly attributed to dislocation strengthening,the formation of NiAl and M23Co precipitates and the change of volume fraction of the retained austenite.

A Hand Features Based Fusion Recognition Network with Enhancing Multi-Modal Correlation

Fusing hand-based features in multi-modal biometric recognition enhances anti-spoofing capabilities.Additionally,it leverages inter-modal correlation to enhance recognition performance.Concurrently,the robustness and recognition performance of the system can be enhanced through judiciously leveraging the correlation among multimodal features.Nevertheless,two issues persist in multi-modal feature fusion recognition:Firstly,the enhancement of recognition performance in fusion recognition has not comprehensively considered the inter-modality correlations among distinct modalities.Secondly,during modal fusion,improper weight selection diminishes the salience of crucial modal features,thereby diminishing the overall recognition performance.To address these two issues,we introduce an enhanced DenseNet multimodal recognition network founded on feature-level fusion.The information from the three modalities is fused akin to RGB,and the input network augments the correlation between modes through channel correlation.Within the enhanced DenseNet network,the Efficient Channel Attention Network(ECA-Net)dynamically adjusts the weight of each channel to amplify the salience of crucial information in each modal feature.Depthwise separable convolution markedly reduces the training parameters and further enhances the feature correlation.Experimental evaluations were conducted on four multimodal databases,comprising six unimodal databases,including multispectral palmprint and palm vein databases from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.The Equal Error Rates(EER)values were 0.0149%,0.0150%,0.0099%,and 0.0050%,correspondingly.In comparison to other network methods for palmprint,palm vein,and finger vein fusion recognition,this approach substantially enhances recognition performance,rendering it suitable for high-security environments with practical applicability.The experiments in this article utilized amodest sample database comprising 200 individuals.The subsequent phase involves preparing for the extension of the method to larger data

Unbalanced private set intersection with linear communication complexity

The private set intersection(PSI) protocol allows two parties holding a set of integers to compute the intersection of their sets without revealing any additional information to each other. The unbalanced PSI schemes consider a specific setting where a client holds a small set of the size n and a server holds a much larger set of the size m(n ■ m). The communication overhead of state-of-the-art balanced PSI schemes is O(m + n) and the unbalanced PSI schemes are O(nlogm). In this paper, we propose a novel secure unbalanced PSI protocol based on a hash proof system. The communication complexity of our protocol grows only linearly with the size of the small set. In other words, our protocol achieves communication overhead of O(n). We test the performance on a personal computer(PC) machine with a local area network(LAN)setting for the network. The experimental results demonstrate that the client only takes 2.01 s of online computation, 4.27 MB of round trip communication to intersect 1600 pieces of 32-bit integers with 220pieces of 32-bit integers with the security parameter λ = 512. Our protocol is efficient and can be applied to resource-constrained devices, such as cell phones.

Measures of Relative and Absolute Convergence and Pro-poor Growth with an Illustration based on China(2010–2018)

Income mobility is a key issue for understanding the process of economic growth and distributional change.Some economists have used the concept of“pro-poor growth”to examine,with individual-level panel data,whether the poor benefit more than the rich from economic growth by tracking the extent of income mobility among different population subgroups.There is also literature in macroeconomics on the measurement of convergence.This paper introduces population-weighted relative and absolute indices of mobility,convergence,and pro-poor growth;it also distinguishes between anonymous and nonanonymous approaches to these issues.The empirical analysis is based on Chinese panel data for the period 2010–2018.In both absolute and relative terms,income growth in China was greater for individuals with an initially lower income but only for lower income deciles in relative terms.There was also an overall increase in individual welfare from anonymous and nonanonymous perspectives,which was higher among younger individuals.The welfare of the poor did not increase more than that of the nonpoor.These results shed light on the evolution of income distribution in China during the past decade's rapid economic growth.

Multiple sclerosis(MS)is a chronic and incurable autoimmune disease of the central nervous system(CNS)that results in neuro-inflammation and demyelination.Current therapies for MS alleviate symptoms to some extent but fail to realize myelin regeneration.Hence,it is crucial to identify effective targets to promote remyelination.As a widely expressed transcriptional regulator,peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor-coactivator-1α(PGC-1α)expresses in different cells with high energy consumption,including skeletal muscle cells,brown fat cells,neurons,astrocytes,and oligodendrocyte precursor cell(OPC)[1].Targeting PGC-1αmay be beneficial for CNS development and various neurodegenerative diseases.

Plasmon-enhanced photocatalytic oxidative coupling of amines in the air using a delicate Ag nanowire@NH_(2)-UiO-66 core-shell nanostructures

MOF-based core-shell structures with high surface area, abundant active sites, and broad absorption bands are viable alternatives to traditional single-component photocatalysts. In this report, we describe the design and construction of delicate Ag nanowires@NH_(2)-UiO-66 with a core-shell structure for use as photocatalysts in imine synthesis under light. The optimized composites exhibited 80% imine production, which was higher than both MOF and Ag NWs. The significant improvement in photocatalytic activity under light may be attributed to the plasmonic effect of silver nanowires and their core-shell structure, which promotes the separation of electron-hole pairs. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of the core-shell nanostructure may provide valuable insight into the design and construction of MOF-based composite photocatalysts for oxidative coupling of amines.
