Diagnosis and treatment experience of atypical hepatic cystic echinococcosis type 1 at a tertiary center in China

BACKGROUND Some hydatid cysts of cystic echinococcosis type 1(CE1)lack well-defined cyst walls or distinctive endocysts,making them difficult to differentiate from simple hepatic cysts.AIM To investigate the diagnostic methods for atypical hepatic CE1 and the clinical efficacy of laparoscopic surgeries.METHODS The clinical data of 93 patients who had a history of visiting endemic areas of CE and were diagnosed with cystic liver lesions for the first time at the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region(China)from January 2018 to September 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.Clinical diagnoses were made based on findings from serum immunoglobulin tests for echinococcosis,routine abdominal ultrasound,high-frequency ultrasound,abdominal computed tomography(CT)scan,and laparoscopy.Subsequent to the treatments,these patients underwent reexaminations at the outpatient clinic until October 2023.The evaluations included the diagnostic precision of diverse examinations,the efficacy of surgical approaches,and the incidence of CE recurrence.RESULTS All 93 patients were diagnosed with simple hepatic cysts by conventional abdominal ultrasound and abdominal CT scan.Among them,16 patients were preoperatively diagnosed with atypical CE1,and 77 were diagnosed with simple hepatic cysts by high-frequency ultrasound.All the 16 patients preoperatively diagnosed with atypical CE1 underwent laparoscopy,of whom 14 patients were intraoperatively confirmed to have CE1,which was consistent with the postoperative pathological diagnosis,one patient was diagnosed with a mesothelial cyst of the liver,and the other was diagnosed with a hepatic cyst combined with local infection.Among the 77 patients who were preoperatively diagnosed with simple hepatic cysts,4 received aspiration sclerotherapy of hepatic cysts,and 19 received laparoscopic fenestration.These patients were intraoperatively diagnosed with simple hepatic cysts.During the followup period,none of the 14 patients with CE1 experienced recurrence or implantation of hydatid sc

The protective effects of fermented vinegar on acute alcohol-induced hepatic and neuro-toxicity by regulating ethanol metabolism and gut microbiota

Alcohol abuse constitutes a significant health hazard， leading to various organ damage， notably the liver and brain. Shanxi aged vinegar (SAV) is one of the famous fermented and functional foods containing a variety of bioactive ingredients with beneficial effects on the human body. This study aimed to explore the potential protective effect of SAV in alleviating acute alcohol intoxication (AAI) in mice. It was found that SAV at 2.5 mg/kg BW effectively ameliorated the decline in behavioral abilities following alcohol consumption， characterized by a shortened sobering period. SAV reduces alcohol-induced liver damage by inhibiting hepatic function enzymes and oxidative stress levels. Additionally， SAV mitigated the overactivation of microglia and the downregulation of neurotransmitter levels (AchE， 5-HT， and DA)， thereby reducing ethanol-induced brain damage. Meanwhile， SAV significantly decreased concentrations of alcohol and acetaldehyde in the blood and increased ADH and ALDH activities in the liver， indicating enhancement of ethanol metabolism. Moreover， we found that some gut microbiota including Verrucomicrobiota， Akkermansia， and Enterococcus were downregulated after SAV treatment in mice with AAI. These bacteria showed a negative correlation with anti-oxidative markers (GSH and CAT) and enzymes related to ethanol metabolism pathways (ADH and ALDH)， and a positive correlation with hepatic function markers (ALT， AST， and MDA)， alcohol metabolites (alcohol and acetaldehyde) and neurotransmitters (AchE， 5-HT， and DA). However， Bacteroidota， norank＿f＿Muribaculaceae， and Alistipes exhibited the opposite direction. These findings suggest that SAV possesses protective effects against hepatic and neuro-toxicity， and could be a potential functional food for AAI prevention.

In situ direct reprogramming technology can directly convert endogenous glial cells into functional neurons in vivo for central nervous system repair. Polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1(PTB) knockdown has been shown to reprogram astrocytes to functional neurons in situ. In this study, we used AAV-PHP.e B-GFAP-sh PTB to knockdown PTB in a mouse model of ischemic stroke induced by endothelin-1, and investigated the effects of GFAP-sh PTB-mediated direct reprogramming to neurons. Our results showed that in the mouse model of ischemic stroke, PTB knockdown effectively reprogrammed GFAP-positive cells to neurons in ischemic foci, restored neural tissue structure, reduced inflammatory response, and improved behavioral function. These findings validate the effectiveness of in situ transdifferentiation of astrocytes, and suggest that the approach may be a promising strategy for stroke treatment.

Cross-border E-commerce and China's Exports during the COVID-19 Pandemic

China's exports experienced a rapid recovery after the outbreak of the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic.A primary engine was cross-border e-commerce(CBEC)trade,which bucked the downward export trend during the pandemic.By exploring the variation in the number of CBEC comprehensive pilot zones across provinces,we identified the causal impact of CBEC on exports using monthly province-product-destination data for 2019 and 2020.We found strong and robust evidence that CBEC contributed to exports during the pandemic by promoting the expansion of incumbent exports(intensive margin)rather than through the expansion of product categories and exporting partners(extensive margin).Specifically,higher pandemic risk suppressed the role of CBEC at the intensive margin while enhancing it at the extensive margin.Exports to developed countries benefited more from CBEC,both intensively and extensively.Compared with final products,a larger number of intermediate products were exported through CBEC after the outbreak of the pandemic.

Defective NH2-UiO-66 for effective Pb（Ⅱ） removal:Facile fabrication strategy,performances and mechanisms

Defective NH2-UiO-66 adsorbent（named as NH2-UiO-66-SD） was successfully fabricated via post-synthesis method with the aid of both sodium carbonate anhydrous（Na2CO3） and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid（DTPA）,in which the defective structure was confirmed by various characterizations.The as-obtained defective NH2-UiO-66-SD exhibited outstanding Pb（Ⅱ） sorption capacity(172.21 mg g-1) and rapid diffusion rate(29.87mg g-1min-0.5) at room temperature with optimal pH being 5.47.The Pb（Ⅱ） sorption behavior was conformed to pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model,demonstrating that the chemical sorption of the monolayer played a dominant model.As well,the thermodynamic parameters like standard Gibbs free energy change ΔG~o(-31.21 kJ mol-1),standard enthalpy change ΔH~o(12.79 kJ-1mol-1) and standard entropy change ΔS~o(146.73J mol-1K-1) revealed that the Pb（Ⅱ） sorption process of NH2-UiO-66-SD was spontaneous,endothermic and disordered.Furthermore,the NH2-UiO-66-SD exhibited desirable desorption and recirculation performances（removal efficiencies>85 % in 5 runs） with ideal stability.Moreover,the Pb（Ⅱ） sorption mechanism of NH2-UiO-66-SD mainly included the electrostatic attractions and coordinative interactions.Overall,this work offered an intriguing method of fabricating defective NH2-UiO-66 adsorbent,which vastly enhanced adsorption efficiency for toxic metal ions elimination from wastewater.

Influence of H_(2)S and NH_(3) on biogas dry reforming using Ni catalyst:a study on single and synergetic effect

Biogas is a renewable biomass energy source mainly composed of CH4 and CO_(2).Dry reforming is a promising technology for the high-value utilization of biogas.Some impurity gases in biogas can not be completely removed after pretreatment,which may affect the performance of dry reforming.In this study,the influence of typical impurities H_(2)S and NH_(3) on dry reforming was studied using Ni/MgO catalyst.The results showed that low concentration of H_(2)S in biogas could cause serious deactivation of catalyst.Characterization results including EDS,XPS and TOF-SIMS confirmed the adsorption of sulfur on the catalyst surface,which was the cause of catalyst poisoning.We used air calcination method to regenerate the sulfur-poisoned catalysts and found that the regeneration temperature higher than 500℃could help catalyst recover the original activity.NH_(3)in the concentration range of 50–10000 ppm showed a slight inhibitory effect on biogas dry reforming.The decline rate of biogas conversion efficiency increased with the increase of NH_(3) concentration.This was related to the reduction of oxygen activity on catalyst surface caused by NH_(3).The synergetic effect of H_(2)S and NH_(3)in biogas was investigated.The results showed that biogas conversion decreased faster under the coexistence of H_(2)S and NH_(3)than under the effect of H_(2)S alone,so as the surface oxygen activity of catalyst.Air calcination regeneration could also recover the activity of the deactivated catalyst under the synergetic effect of H_(2)S and NH_(3).

A novel model to evaluate spatial structure in thinned conifer-broadleaved mixed natural forests

In order to ensure the effective analysis and reconstruction of forests,it is key to ensure the quantitative description of their spatial structure.In this paper,a distance model for the optimal stand spatial structure based on weighted Voronoi diagrams is proposed.In particular,we provide a novel methodological model for the comprehensive evaluation of the spatial structure of forest stands in natural mixed conifer-broadleaved forests and the formulation of management decision plans.The applicability of the rank evaluation and the optimal solution distance model are compared and assessed for different standard sample plots of natural mixed conifer-broadleaved forests.The effect of crown width on the spatial structure unit of the trees is observed to be higher than that of the diameter at breast height.Moreover,the influence of crown length is greater than that of tree height.There are nine possible spatial structure units determined by the weighted Voronoi diagram for the number of neighboring trees in the central tree,with an average intersection of neighboring crowns reaching 80%.The rank rating of natural forest sample plots is correlated with the optimal solution distance model,and their results are generally consistent for natural forests.However,the rank rating is not able to provide a quantitative assessment.The optimal solution distance model is observed to be more comprehensive than traditional methods for the evaluation of the spatial structure of forest stands.It can effectively reflect the trends in realistic stand spatial structure factors close to or far from the ideal structure point,and accurately assesses the forest spatial structure.The proposed optimal solution distance model improves the integrated evaluation of the spatial structure of forest stands and provides solid theoretical and technical support for sustainable forest management.

Integrating urban morphology and land surface temperature characteristics for urban functional area classification

The classification of urban functional areas plays an important role in urban planning and resource management.Although previous studies have confirmed that different urban func-tional areas have different morphological structures and Land Surface Temperature(LST)characteristics,these two types of characteristics have rarely been fully integrated and used for functional area classification.In this paper,a new framework for classifying urban functional areas is proposed by combining urban morphological features and LST features.First,metrics are constructed from three levels,namely,building,road and region,which are used to portray urban morphology;LST is retrieved using thermal infrared remote sensing to reflect LST features with four metrics:the average temperature,maximum temperature,temperature difference and standard deviation of temperature.Then,the functional areas are classified into four categories:service/public land,commercial land,residential land and industrial land.A random forest algorithm is used to effectively fuse the features of these two categories and classify the functional areas.The effectiveness of the proposed framework is tested in the study area of Shenzhen City,Guangdong Province.The results show that the combined classification accuracy of the proposed classification method is 0.85,which is 0.26 higher than that of the classification model based on urban morphology and 0.1 higher than that of the classification model based on LST features.The proposed framework verifies that the integration of LST features into urban functional area classification is reliable and effectively combines urban morphology and LST features for functional area classification.
