Superior Toughened Biodegradable Poly(L-lactic acid)-based Blends with Enhanced Melt Strength and Excellent Low-temperature Toughness via In situ Reaction Compatibilization

The toughened poly(L-lactic acid)/poly(butylene succinate-butylene terephthalate)(PLLA/PBST) blend with enhanced melt strength and excellent low temperature toughness and strength was prepared by melt compounding through in situ compatibilization reaction in presence of multifunctional epoxy compound(ADR).The PLLA/PBST blend was an immiscible system,and the compatibility of the PLLA/PBST blend was improved after adding *** and GPC curves confirmed the formation of the PLLA-g-PBST copolymer,which improved the interfacial bonding of the blend and therefore the PLLA/PBST/ADR blend showed excellent melt strength and mechanical *** the PLLA/PBST/ADR blend with 70/30 PLLA/PBST content,the complex viscosity increased significantly with increasing ADR ***,the tensile strength,elongation at break and impact strength all increased obviously with increasing the ADR *** elongation at break of the blend reached the maximum value of 392.7%,which was 93.2 times that of neat *** the impact strength of the blend reached the maximum value of 74.7 k J/m~2,which was 21.3 times that of neat ***,the PLLA/PBST/ADR blend exhibited excellent lowtemperature toughness and *** –20 ℃,the elongation at break of the PLLA/PBST/ADR blend was as high as 93.2%,and the impact strength reached 18.8 k J/m~***,the tensile strength of the blend at low temperature was also high(64.7 MPa),which was beneficial to the application of PLA in the low temperature *** addition,the PLLA/PBST/ADR blend maintaind good biodegradability,which was of great significance to the wide application of PLLA.

Tailoring MgH_(2) for hydrogen storage through nanoengineering and catalysis

Hydrogen energy has been recognized as “Ultimate Power Source” in the 21st century, which could be the best solution to the looming energy crisis and climate degeneration in the near future. Due to its high safety, low price, abundant resources and decent hydrogen storage density, magnesium based solid-state hydrogen storage materials are becoming the leading candidate for onboard hydrogen storage. However,the high operation temperature and slow reaction rate of MgH_(2), as a result of the large formation enthalpy and high reaction activation energy,respectively, are the first and most difficult problems we need to face and overcome to realize its industrialization. Herein, a state-of-the-art review on tailoring the stable thermodynamics and sluggish kinetics of hydrogen storage in MgH_(2), particularly through nanoengnieering and catalysis is presented, aiming to provide references and solutions for its promotion and application. Promising methods to overcome the challenges faced by MgH_(2)/Mg, such as bidirectional catalysts and nanoconfinement with in-situ catalysis are compared and the required improvements are discussed to stimulate further discussions and ideas in the rational design of MgH_(2)/Mg systems with ability for hydrogen release/uptake at lower temperatures and cycle stability in the near future.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Proliferation on Konjac Glucomannan Microcarriers:Effect of Rigidity

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have attracted great attention as a source of cells for regenerative medicine owing to their self-renewal ability and multiple differentiation ***,the serious shortage of MSCs and the difficulty of maintaining the differentiation potential during culture in vitro limit their *** culture technology is an effective method to realize large-scale culture of MSCs,whereas the effect of microcarriers properties on MSCs proliferation and differentiation potential maintenance should be *** this study,Konjac glucomannan(KGM)microcarriers with a wide range of rigidity from 0.2 MPa to 10 MPa were prepared using water-in-oil emulsion *** was found that the microcarriers rigidity had great influence on MSCs by regulating cell spreading *** proliferation and good differentiation potential maintenance of MSCs were achieved on the intermediate rigidity about 2.51±0.65 MPa with the faster spreading rate of *** a result,MSCs on 2.51±0.65 MPa KGM microcarriers proliferated about 27 times,which was 1.7 times as much as MSCs cultured on the commercial microcarriers *** differentiation potential was also improved about 3.2 times compared to ***,it is indispensable to regulate microcarriers rigidity,especially for application of MSCs.

Design and characteristics of a triple-cathode cascade plasma torch for spheroidization of metallic powders

Arc plasma torch is an effective tool for spheroidization of metallic ***,as most conventional plasma torches were not specifically designed for plasma spheroidization,they may exhibit the disadvantages of the radial injection of powders,large fluctuations in the arc voltage,large gas flow rate,and disequilibrium between multiple plasma jets during the spheroidization ***,this paper presents a triple-cathode cascade plasma torch(TCCPT)for plasma *** structural design,including three cathodes,a common anode,and three sets of inter-electrodes,are detailed to ensure that powders can be inserted into the plasma jet by axial injection,the arc voltage fluctuations are easily maintained at a low level,and the plasma torches can work at a relatively small gas flow *** results showed that the proposed TCCPT exhibits the following characteristics:(1)a relatively small arc voltage fluctuation within 5.3%;(2)a relatively high arc voltage of 75 V and low gas flow rate range of10-30 SLM;(3)easy to be maintained at the equilibrium state with the equilibrium index of the three plasma jets within 3.5 ***,plasma spheroidization experiments of SUS304 stainless steel powers were carried out using the proposed *** verified that the proposed TCCPT is applicable and effective for the spheroidization of metallic powders with wide size distribution.

M1-type microglia can induce astrocytes to deposit chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan after spinal cord injury

After spinal cord injury(SCI),astrocytes gradually migrate to and surround the lesion,depositing chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan-rich extracellular matrix and forming astrocytic scar,which limits the spread of inflammation but hinders axon ***,microglia gradually accumulate at the lesion border to form microglial scar and can polarize to generate a pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype or an anti-inflammatory M2 ***,the effect of microglia polarization on astrocytes is ***,we found that both microglia(CX3 CR1^(+))and astrocytes(GFAP^(+))gathered at the lesion border at 14 days post-injury(dpi).The microglia accumulated along the inner border of and in direct contact with the astrocytes.M1-type microglia(i NOS^(+)CX3 CR1^(+))were primarily observed at 3 and 7 dpi,while M2-type microglia(Arg1^(+)CX3 CR1^(+))were present at larger numbers at 7 and 14 *** growth factor-β1(TGFβ1)was highly expressed in M1 microglia in vitro,consistent with strong expression of TGFβ1 by microglia in vivo at 3 and 7 dpi,when they primarily exhibited an M1 ***,conditioned media from M1-type microglia induced astrocytes to secrete chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan in *** effect was eliminated by knocking down sex-determining region Y-box 9(SOX9)in astrocytes and could not be reversed by treatment with TGFβ*** together,our results suggest that microglia undergo M1 polarization and express high levels of TGFβ1 at 3 and 7 dpi,and that M1-type microglia induce astrocytes to deposit chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan via the TGFβ1/SOX9 *** study was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Anhui Medical University,China(approval ***20160052)on March 1,2016.

A phase Ⅳ study of homoharringtonine, cytarabine, aclacinomycin and G-CSF(HCAG) regimen compared with traditional IA regimen in the treatment of newly diagnosed elderly acute myeloid leukemia patients

Objective · To compare the efficacy and prognostic factors of HCAG regimen with traditional IA regimen in the treatment of newly diagnosed elderly acute myeloid leukemia(AML) patients. Methods · Forty-one patients with AML(aged 55-71 years) were randomly divided into two groups(Group HCAG and Group IA) between 2014 and 2016 for induction and consolidation therapy. Multivariate analysis was applied to identify prognostic factors for relapse-free survival(RFS). Results · A total of 29 patients(70.7%) achieved complete remission(CR). The estimated 2-year overall survival(OS) was 66.8% in Group HCAG and 75.4% in Group IA(P=0.913). The estimated 2-year RFS was 61.8% in Group HCAG and 49.1% in Group IA(P=0.411). Age remained as the unfavorable prognostic factor, leading to significant differences in OS and RFS. In addition, RFS was influenced by cytogenetic/molecular risk stratification. Conclusion · Although HCAG seemed not to particularly benefit the group, the dose reduction of anthracyclines may be applied in elderly patients with comparable short-time outcome. Furthermore, the introduction of homoharringtonine resulted in an improvement of treatment response for more than 20% compared with CAG regimen.

Ohmic losses of a coaxial cavity gyrotron with outer corrugation are *** results show that the averaged ohmic loss densities of the inner and outer conductors have similar changes along with the axial direction of the gyrotron;whereas averaged ohmic loss densities of the outer conductor are more than the inner conductor;the outer slot depth and width cause greatly the averaged ohmic loss densities of the corrugation bottom and the corrugation period of outer conductor,and averaged densities of ohmic losses on the inner conductor are almost unaffected.
