Supramolecular systems feature dynamic,reversible and stimuli-responsive characteristics,which are not easily achieved by molecular *** last decade has witnessed tremendous advances in the investigations of supramolecular systems for various bioapplications,which include drug delivery,anticancer therapy,antibacterial therapy,photodynamic therapy,photothermal therapy,combination therapy,antidotes for residual drugs or toxins,and bioimaging and ***-guest chemistry has played a key role in the development of such bioactive supramolecular systems,and natural macrocycles(such as cyclodextrins),synthetic macrocycles(such as calixarenes,cucurbit[n]urils,and pillararenes),and porous framework polymers(such as supramolecular organic frameworks and flexible organic frameworks)have been most successfully used as hosts to build different kinds of host-guest systems for attaining designed *** self-assembly of rationally designed amphiphilic molecules,macromolecules and polymers represent another important approach for the construction of supramolecular architectures with advanced *** this review,we summarize the important contributions made by Chinese researchers in this field,with emphasis on those reported in the past five years.

Asymmetric Michael addition reactions catalyzed by a novel upper-rim functionalized calix[4]squaramide organocatalyst

A novel upper-rim functionalized calix[4]squaramide organocatalyst bearing bis-squaramide and cyclohexanediamine scaffolds was designed and prepared to catalyse a serial of asymmetric Michael addition of 1,3-dicarbo nyl compounds to a,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in high yields(up to 99%)and good to excellent enantiomeric excesses(up to 99%ee).The comparative experiments indicated that the cooperative effect between calixarenes cavitives and chiral catalytic centers on this calix[4]squaramide catalyst could promote these ***,this strategy also provides valuable and easy access to chiral chromene,naphthoquinone and acetylacetone derivatives,which are important skeletons in biological and pharmaceutical compounds.

Stable pillar[5]arene-based pseudo[1]rotaxanes formed in polar solution

Mono-alkyl-functionalized pillar[5]arenes PI, P2, and P3 were synthesized by click reaction, which exhibited different self-assembly behavior in polar solvent DMSO. Stable pseudo[ 1 ]rotaxane was formed by the self-complexation from P1 or P2, whereas, concentration-dependent pseudorotaxane structures were generated by P3 which bearing more flexible side chain. Interestingly, the obtained pseudo[1]rotaxanes exhibited a dynamic fast assembly process upon adding NaBF4, resulting in the formation of Na＋-induced pseudorotaxanes.

Gutuo Jiejiu decoction improves survival of patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis: A retrospective cohort study

AIM To verify the value of Gutuo Jiejiu decoction in improving the survival of patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis(SAH).METHODS We performed a retrospective cohort study in consecutive patients diagnosed with SAH at the Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shuguang Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The traditional Chinese medicine formula Gutuo Jiejiu decoction was employed as an exposure factor. Patients from the Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine who had been treated with Gutuo Jiejiu decoction + prednisone were assigned to an observation group, and patients from Shuguang Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine who had been treated with prednisone alone were selected as a control group. A retrospective analysis was performed by comparing age, alcohol intake, and clinical parameters of liver injury beforeand after treatment. Additionally, the 3-and 12-mo survival rates and the occurrence of complications were *** One hundred and twenty-eight eligible patients were selected from 175 cases with SAH, of which 68 were assigned to the observation group and the other 60 to the control group. No significant difference was found in the patients' baseline characteristics(P > 0.05). However, significant improvements of 90-d survival rate [56/68(82.4%) vs 27/60(45.0%), P = 0.0000] and 365-d survival rate [48/68(70.6%) vs 13/60(21.7%), P = 00000] were observed in the observation group after treatment. After the first 3 mo of treatment, more improvements in the clinical parameters and scoring systems related to liver injury occurred in the observation group than in the control group(P < 0.05). After treatment for 12 mo, the differences in the clinical parameters and scoring systems related to liver injury between the two groups were more significant(P < 0.05). The construction of aggregation-induced charge transfer emission systems in aqueous solution directed by supramolecular strategy

Novel aggregation-induced charge transfer(CT) emission systems with long luminescence lifetime directed by supramolecular strategy have been successfully developed in water. The dimethylacridine-based electron donor(Br Ac) with excellent aggregation ability can co-aggregate with a triazine-based electron acceptor(TRZ) to form nanorods in water, which exhibit CT emission with long lifetime(τ = 0.92 μs).As for a similar electron donor(Qa Ac) with poor aggregation ability, water-soluble pillar[5]arene(WP5)can be introduced to promote the aggregation process, leading to the obvious CT emission with long lifetime(τ = 0.61 μs). In addition, structural modification of the acceptor with substituent groups possessing stronger electron-accepting capabilities will cause red-shift(about 50 nm) of the emission, which allows conveniently constructing long lifetime organic luminescent materials with different emission colors.

Various novel types of supramolecular nanostructures formed by nonamphiphilic azobenzene derivatives,G1 or G2 have been successfully fabricated,where G2 is structurally similar with G1 but an extra phenoxy group is con-nected with the azobenzene *** structures can be obtained from the self-assembly of G1,which further transform to large-sized spindle structures;while nanorods can be initially formed by G2,which will gradually ag-gregate to form layered structures with much larger ***,it is found that upon addition of WP6,which can form inclusion-complex with G1 or G2,separately,the nonamphiphilic G1 and G2 thus converse to supramolecular amphiphiles WP6⊃G1 and WP6⊃G2,***,both of the above WP6⊃G1 and WP6⊃G2 complexes can further assemble to form supramolecular binary vesicles,which will gradually transform to nanotubes(WP6⊃G1)or well-ordered nanosheets(WP6⊃G2).

An AIE singlet oxygen generation system based on supramolecular strategy

The design of supramolecular system s with efficient singlet oxygen generation has attracted considerable ***,an AIE-based singlet oxygen generation system with chemiluminescence properties is reported in aqueous media based on supramolecular host-guest assembly between a water-soluble pillar[5]arene(WP5)and an AIE photosensitizer(TPEDM).The formed supramolecular nanoparticles exhibit significant singlet oxygen generation ability as well as enhanced *** addition,by introducing catalase,this H_(2) O_(2)-responsive supramolecular system shows increased~1 O_(2) generation efficiency compared with the blank *** efficient chemiluminescence system can also be achieved by entrapping an energy donor adamantane derivative(AMPPD).Moreover,the present system can function as nanoreactors to perform the photooxidation of dopamine to form polydopamine with visible light *** wo rk provides a new strategy for the construction of~1 O_(2) generation system based on supramolecular nanomaterials,which has potential applications in the fields such as chemiluminescence imaging and controlled photocatalysis.
