Effect of vacuum degree and aeration rate on sludge dewatering behavior with the aeration-vacuum method

Due to large-scale dredging operations, a large amount of sludge is inevitably produced. Large areas of land are occupied when the dredged sludge is discarded in the disposal site as waste material. The sludge dewatering with aeration-vacuum (SDAV) method is suit for treating the sludge with high water content and high clay content in the disposal site. The water in the sludge can be discharged out. The volume of the sludge can be reduced quickly, and the recycling of the land can be accelerated by this method. Most importantly, this technique is an efficient way to deal with clogging problems when pumping water from high water content, high clay content dredged sludge. Vacuum degree range tests, the aeration rate range tests, and the influencing factors of sludge dewatering behavior tests were conducted with a self-developed SDAV model test device. Sludge samples were taken from the South-to-North Water Diversion East Line Project in Huai’an White-Horse Lake disposal site, Jiangsu Province, China. The optimal range of vacuum degree and aeration rate were obtained through the test results, and the mechanisms for how the two factors work and how they affect the sludge dewatering behavior were analyzed. The suitable vacuum degree range in SDAV is below 50 kPa, and the suitable aeration rate is about 1.0 m3/h. The low-vacuum degree contributes to reduce the ad-sorption effect of micro-channels on soil particles in filter material and to maintain the arch structures. Aeration has the effects of expansion, disturbance, changing Reynolds number, and dynamic sieve separating. The pump quantity of water per meter of filter tube (m) has different change rules as the vacuum degree changes under different aeration rates. The reason is that the formed arch structures’ conformation and permeability differ greatly under different combined-conditions of vacuum degree and aeration rate. The optimal combined-condition for dewatering the sludge is 35 kPa with 1.0 m3/h.

Investigation ofβ—‑decay half‑life and delayed neutron emission with uncertainty analysis

β-decay half-life and β-delayed neutron emission(βn) are of great importance in the development of basic science and industrial applications, such as nuclear physics and nuclear energy, where β--decay plays an important role. Many theoretical models have been proposed to describe β-decay half-lives, whereas the systematic study of βn is still rare. This study aimed to investigate β--decay half-lives and βn probabilities through analytical formulas and by comparing them with experimental data. Analytical formulas for β--decay properties have been proposed by considering prominent factors, that is, decay energy,odevity, and the shell effect. The bootstrap method was used to simultaneously evaluate the total uncertainty on calculations,which was composed of statistic and systematic uncertainties. β--decay half-lives, βn probabilities, and the corresponding uncertainties were evaluated for the neutron-rich region. The experimental half-lives were well reproduced. Additional predictions are also presented with theoretical uncertainties, which helps to better understand the disparity between the experimental and theoretical results.

Inhibition of hepatitis B virus gene expression and replication by artificial microRNA

AIM: To investigate the inhibitory effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication and expression by transfecting artificial microRNA (amiRNA) into HepG2.2.15 cells. METHODS: Three amiRNA-HBV plasmids were constructed and transfected into HepG2.2.15 cells. HBV antigen secretion was detected in the cells with transient and stable transfection by time-resolved fluoroimmunoassays (TRFIA). HBV DNA replication was examined by ? uorescence quantitative PCR, and the level of HBV S mRNA was measured by semi- quantitative RT-PCR. RESULTS: The efficiency of transient transfection of the vectors into 2.2.15 cells was 55%-60%. All the vectors had significant inhibition effects on HBsAg and HBeAg at 72 h and 96 h after transfection (P < 0.01 for all). The secretion of HBsAg and HBeAg into the supernatant was inhibited by 49.8% ± 4.7% and 39.9% ± 6.7%, respectively, at 72 h in amiRNA- HBV-S608 plasmid transfection group. The copy of HBV DNA within culture supernatant was also significantly decreased at 72 h and 96 h after transfection (P <0.01 for all). In the cells with stable transfection, the secretion of HBsAg and HBeAg into the supernatant was significantly inhibited in all three transfection groups (P < 0.01 for all, vs negative control). The copies of HBV DNA were inhibited by 33.4% ± 3.0%, 60.8% ± 2.3% and 70.1% ± 3.3%, respectively. CONCLUSION: In HepG2.2.15 cells, HBV replication and expression could be inhibited by artif icial microRNA targeting the HBV S coding region. Vector-based artificial microRNA could be a promising therapeutic approach for chronic HBV infection.

Association between TLR7 copy number variations and hepatitis B virus infection outcome in Chinese

AIM To explore whether copy number variations (CNVs) of toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) are associated with susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. METHODS This study included 623 patients (495 males and 128 females) with chronic hepatitis B virus infection (CHB) and 300 patients (135 females and 165 males) with acute hepatitis B virus infection (AHB) as controls. All CHB patients were further categorized according to disease progression after HBV infection (CHB, liver cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma). Copy numbers of the TLR7 gene were measured using the AccuCopy method chi(2) tests were used to evaluate the association between TLR7 CNVs and infection type. P values, odds ratios, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the effects of risk. RESULTS Among male patients, there were significant differences between the AHB group and CHB group in the distribution of TLR7 CNVs. Low copy numberof TLR7 was significantly associated with chronic HBV infection (OR = 0.329, 95% CI: 0.229-0.473, P > 0.001). Difference in TLR7 copy number was also found between AHB and CHB female patients, with low copy number again associated with an increased risk of chronic HBV infection (OR = 0.292, 95% CI: 0.173- 0.492, P < 0.001). However, there were no significant differences in TLR7 copy number among the three types of chronic HBV infection (CHB, liver cirrhosis, or hepatocellular carcinoma). In addition, there was no association between TLR7 copy number and titer of the HBV e antigen. CONCLUSION Low TLR7 copy number is a risk factor for chronic HBV infection but is not associated with later stages of disease progression.

Relationship between interleukin-6 polymorphism and susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B virus infection

AIM:To identify the relationship between tag single nucleotide polymorphisms(tag SNPs) of interleukin-6(IL-6) gene and susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection in a Han Chinese ***:We performed a case-control study of501 Chinese patients with chronic HBV infection and301 self-limiting HBV-infected individuals as *** DNA was isolated from the whole blood of all subjects using phenol/chloroform with MaXtract highdensity tubes. Tag SNPs were identified using genotype data from the panel(Han Chinese in Beijing) of the phase II HapMap Project. Four tag SNPs in IL-6(rs17147230A/T,rs2066992G/T,rs2069837A/G and rs2069852A/G) were genotyped by the Multiplex Snapshot technique. The genotype and allele frequencies were calculated and ***:Five haplotypes were involved in the analysis,with frequencies higher than 0.03. One of the haplotypes,TTAA,was significantly different between the two groups. Overall haplotype P values were:ATAA,P = 0.605,OR(95%CI) = 1.056(0.860-1.297); TGAG,P = 0.385,OR(95%CI) = 1.179(0.813-1.709); TGGG,P = 0.549,OR(95%CI) = 1.087(0.827-1.429); TTAA,P = 0.004,OR(95%CI) = 0.655(0.491-0.873); TTAG,P = 0.266,OR(95%CI) = 1.272(0.832-1.944). However,the four SNPs showed no significant genotype/allele associations with susceptibility to chronic HBV infection. Overall allele P values were:rs17147230,P = 0.696,OR(95%CI) = 1.041(0.850-1.276); rs2066992,P = 0.460,OR(95%CI)= 1.090(0.868-1.369); rs2069837,P = 0.898,OR(95%CI) = 0.983(0.759-1.274); rs2069852,P = 0.165,OR(95%CI) = 0.859(0.693-1.064). Serum interleukin-34 level can be an indicator of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection

AIM To investigate whether serum interleukin(IL)-34 levels are correlated with hepatic inflammation and fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection. METHODS In this study, serum IL-34 levels were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 19 healthy controls and 175 patients with chronic HBV infection undergoing biopsy. The frequently used serological markers of liver fibrosis were based on laboratory indexes measured at the Clinical Laboratory of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University. Liver stiffness was detected by transient elastography with Fibro Touch. The relationships of non-invasive makers of liver fibrosis and IL-34 levels with inflammation and fibrosis were analyzed. The diagnostic value of IL-34 and other liver fibrosis makers wereevaluated using areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves, sensitivity and *** Serum IL-34 levels were associated with inflammatory activity in the liver, and IL-34 levels differed among phases of chronic HBV infection(P = 0.001). By comparing serum IL-34 levels among patients with various stages of liver fibrosis determined by liver biopsy, we found that IL-34 levels ≥ 15.83 pg/m L had a high sensitivity of 86.6% and a specificity of 78.7% for identifying severe fibrosis(S3-S4). Furthermore, we showed that IL-34 is superior to the fibrosis-4 score, one of the serum makers of liver fibrosis, in identifying severe liver fibrosis and early cirrhosis in patients with HBV-related liver fibrosis in *** Our results indicate that IL-34, a cytokine involved in the induction of activation of profibrogenic macrophages, can be an indicator of liver inflammation and fibrosis in patients with chronic HBV infection.

BACKGROUND Endoscopic rubber band ligation(ERBL)is a nonsurgical technique for the treatment of symptomatic internal hemorrhoids but is limited by recurrence and post-procedural *** To evaluate satisfaction,long-term recurrence,and post-procedural pain in managing internal hemorrhoids using a combination of polidocanol foam sclerotherapy and *** This was a prospective,multicenter,randomized study.A total of 195 consecutive patients diagnosed with grade II-III internal hemorrhoids were enrolled from four tertiary hospitals and randomly divided into a cap-assisted endoscopic polidocanol foam sclerobanding(EFSB)or an ERBL *** patients were followed-up for 12 ***-based severity and post-procedural pain were assessed using a hemorrhoid severity score(HSS)and a visual analog scale(VAS).Continuous variables were reported as medians and interquartile *** One hundred and ninety-five patients were enrolled,with 98 in the EFSB *** was lower in the EFSB group than in the ERBL group at 8 weeks[4.0(3.0-5.0)vs 5.0(4.0-6.0),P=0.003]and 12-month[2.0(1.0-3.0)vs 3.0(2.0-3.0),P<0.001]of *** prolapse recurrence rate was lower in the EFSB group at 12 months(11.2%vs 21.6%,P=0.038).Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that EFSB treatment[B=-0.915,95%confidence interval(CI):−1.301 to−0.530,P=0.001]and rubber band number(B=0.843,95%CI:0.595-1.092,P<0.001)were negatively and independently associated with the VAS score 24 hours *** median VAS was lower in the EFSB group than in the ERBL[2.0(1.0-3.0)vs 3.0(2.0-4.0),P<0.001].CONCLUSION Cap-assisted EFSB provided long-term satisfaction and effective relief from the recurrence of prolapse and pain 24 hours post-procedure.

Integration and Difference of Intercultural Communication. in Idioms Translation

Idioms, composed of various linguistic characteristics, are frequently used by both Chinese and foreign people, making them perfect material to analyze different topics of intercultural communication. Through translations of idioms, we can easily find the integration and differences between English and Chinese idioms. In the process of translating, translators have to be acutely aware of not only the language differences, but also the associations and differences between the cultural background of two languages. By studying bilingual material after the translation is completed, re-comprehension of different cultures and their features can be acquired and it can feed back to our translation missions and foreign exchange activities. This paper aims to analyze the differences and integration of intercultural communication through examples of several idioms translation to illustrate the importance of intercultural communication view in translating and give translators a new prospective for translation strategies.
