Multiscale spatiotemporal meteorological drought prediction:A deep learning approach

Reliable monitoring and thorough spatiotemporal prediction of meteorological drought are crucial for early warning and decision-making regarding drought-related disasters.The utilisation of multiscale methods is effective for a comprehensive evaluation of drought occurrence and progression,given the complex nature of meteorological drought.Nevertheless,the nonlinear spatiotemporal features of meteorological droughts,influenced by various climatological,physical and environmental factors,pose significant challenges to integrated prediction that considers multiple indicators and time scales.To address these constraints,we introduce an innovative deep learning framework based on the shifted window transformer,designed for executing spatiotemporal prediction of meteorological drought across multiple scales.We formulate four prediction indicators using the standardized precipitation index and the standard precipitation evaporation index as core methods for drought definition using the ERA5 reanalysis dataset.These indicators span time scales of approximately 30 d and one season.Short-term indicators capture more anomalous variations,whereas long-term indicators attain comparatively higher accuracy in predicting future trends.We focus on the East Asian region,notable for its diverse climate conditions and intricate terrains,to validate the model's efficacy in addressing the complexities of nonlinear spatiotemporal prediction.The model's performance is evaluated from diverse spatiotemporal viewpoints,and practical application values are analysed by representative drought events.Experimental results substantiate the effectiveness of our proposed model in providing accurate multiscale predictions and capturing the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of drought.Each of the four drought indicators accurately delineates specific facets of the meteorological drought trend.Moreover,three representative drought events,namely flash drought,sustained drought and severe drought,underscore the significance of selecting appropr

Mechanisms of Acupuncture in Improving Alzheimer's Disease Caused by Mitochondrial Damage

Alzheimer's disease(AD)is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases among the elderly and it accounts for nearly 80%of all dementias.The pathogenesis of AD is complicated and enigmatic thus far.The mitochondrial cascade hypothesis assumes that mitochondrial damage may mediate,drive,or contribute to a variety of AD pathologies and may be the main factor in late-onset AD.Currently,there are no widely recognized drugs able to attenuate mitochondrial damage in AD.Notably,increasing evidence supports the efficacy of acupuncture for improving the mitochondrial structure and protecting mitochondrial functions in AD.This review reports the mechanisms by which acupuncture regulates mitochondrial dynamics,energy metabolism,calcium homeostasis and apoptosis.In conclusion,these findings suggest that AD mitochondrial dysfunction represents a reasonable therapeutic target and acupuncture could play a significant role in preventing and treating AD.

Experimental Study on the Penetration of Diesel and Biodiesel Spray Liquid Emerging from an Equilateral Triangular Orifice under Evaporative Conditions

This paper reports the results of an experimental study on the liquid phase characteristics of the biodiesel and diesel discharged from an equilateral triangular orifice and a circular orifice under different injection conditions by Mie-scattering imaging.The results revealed that the biodiesel liquid penetration length was longer than that of diesel under the same injection conditions.In addition,the increase of the chamber pressure was expected to enhance the interaction between air and fuel,resulting in the acceleration of the liquid phase breakup process.Moreover,with increasing chamber temperature,the liquid penetration of biodiesel was reduced less than that of diesel.This was due to the high surface tension and viscosity of biodiesel which inhibited the chamber air entrainment and suppressed the liquid breakup process.Accordingly,the higher probability of shorter diesel liquid penetration length indicated better air-fuel mixing than that of biodiesel.Besides,the triangular orifice liquid length was shorter than that of the circular orifice.And the stabilized liquid cone angle from the circular orifice was larger than that from the triangular orifice,indicating that using an equilateral triangular orifice has the potential to improve the air-fuel mixing process.

Radioactive 125I seed implantation for pancreatic cancer with unexpected liver metastasis:A preliminary experience with 26 patients

BACKGROUND Preoperative diagnosis rate of pancreatic cancer has increased year by year.The prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients with unexpected liver metastasis found by intraoperative exploration is very poor,and there is no effective and unified treatment strategy.AIM To evaluate the therapeutic effect of radioactive 125I seed implantation for pancreatic cancer patients with unexpected liver metastasis.METHODS The demographics and perioperative outcomes of patients who underwent 125I seed implantation to treat pancreatic cancer with unexpected liver metastasis between January 1,2017 and June 1,2019 were retrospectively analyzed.During the operation,125I seeds were implanted into the pancreatic tumor under the guidance of intraoperative ultrasound,with a spacing of 1.5 cm and a row spacing of 1.5 cm.For patients with obstructive jaundice and digestive tract obstruction,choledochojejunostomy and gastroenterostomy were performed simultaneously.After operation,the patients were divided into a non-chemotherapy group and a chemotherapy group that received gemcitabine combined with albumin-bound paclitaxel treatment.RESULTS Preoperative imaging evaluation of all patients in this study showed that the tumor was resectable without liver metastasis.There were 26 patients in this study,including 18 males and 8 females,aged 60.5±9.7 years.The most common tumor site was the pancreatic head(17,65.4%),followed by the pancreatic neck and body(6,23.2%)and pancreatic tail(3,11.4%).Fourteen patients(53.8%)underwent palliative surgery and postoperative pain relief occurred in 22 patients(84.6%).The estimated blood loss in operation was 148.3±282.1 mL and one patient received blood transfusion.The postoperative hospital stay was 7.6±2.8 d.One patient had biliary fistula,one had pancreatic fistula,and all recovered after conservative treatment.After operation,7 patients received chemotherapy and 19 did not.The 1-year survival rate was significantly higher in patients who received chemotherapy than in those who did not(68.6%vs 15.

During recovery from heat stress,plants clear away the heat-stress-induced misfolded proteins through the ubiquitin-proteasome system(UPS).In the UPS,the recognition of substrate proteins by E3 ligase can be regulated by the N-terminal acetyltransferase A(NatA)complex.Here,we determined that Arabidopsis STRESS-RELATED UBIQUITIN-ASSOCIATED-DOMAIN PROTEIN FACTOR 1(SUF1)interacts with the NatA complex core subunit NAA15 and positively regulates NAA15.The suf1 and naa15 mutants are sensitive to heat stress;the NatA substrate NSNC1 is stabilized in suf1 mutant plants during heat stress recovery.Therefore,SUF1 and its interactor NAA15 play important roles in basal thermotolerance in Arabidopsis.

Ensemble learning prediction of soybean yields in China based on meteorological data

The accurate prediction of soybean yield is of great significance for agricultural production, monitoring and early warning.Although previous studies have used machine learning algorithms to predict soybean yield based on meteorological data,it is not clear how different models can be used to effectively separate soybean meteorological yield from soybean yield in various regions. In addition, comprehensively integrating the advantages of various machine learning algorithms to improve the prediction accuracy through ensemble learning algorithms has not been studied in depth. This study used and analyzed various daily meteorological data and soybean yield data from 173 county-level administrative regions and meteorological stations in two principal soybean planting areas in China(Northeast China and the Huang–Huai region), covering 34 years.Three effective machine learning algorithms(K-nearest neighbor, random forest, and support vector regression) were adopted as the base-models to establish a high-precision and highly-reliable soybean meteorological yield prediction model based on the stacking ensemble learning framework. The model's generalizability was further improved through 5-fold crossvalidation, and the model was optimized by principal component analysis and hyperparametric optimization. The accuracy of the model was evaluated by using the five-year sliding prediction and four regression indicators of the 173 counties, which showed that the stacking model has higher accuracy and stronger robustness. The 5-year sliding estimations of soybean yield based on the stacking model in 173 counties showed that the prediction effect can reflect the spatiotemporal distribution of soybean yield in detail, and the mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) was less than 5%. The stacking prediction model of soybean meteorological yield provides a new approach for accurately predicting soybean yield.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a common malignant tumor.At present,early diagnosis of HCC is dif-ficult and therapeutic methods are limited.Radiomics can achieve accurate quantitative evaluation of the lesions without invasion,and has important value in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC.Radiomics fea-tures can predict the development of cancer in patients,serve as the basis for risk stratification of HCC patients,and help clinicians distinguish similar diseases,thus improving the diagnostic accuracy.Further-more,the prediction of the treatment outcomes helps determine the treatment plan.Radiomics is also helpful in predicting the HCC recurrence,disease-free survival and overall survival.This review summa-rized the role of radiomics in the diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of HCC.

Primary Treatment for Clinically Early Cervical Cancer with Lymph Node Metastasis:Radical Surgery or Radiation?

Objective To compare survival outcomes between primary radical surgery and primary radiation in early cervical cancer.Methods Patient information was extracted from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and Results database.Patients diagnosed with early cervical cancer of stage T1a,T1b,and T2a(American Joint Committee on Cancer,7th edition)from 1998 to 2015 were included in this study after propensity score matching.Overall survival(OS)was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method.Results Among the 4964 patients included in the study,1080 patients were identified as having positive lymph nodes(N1),and 3884 patients were identified as having negative lymph nodes(N0).Patients with primary surgery had significantly longer 5-year OS than those with primary radiotherapy in both the N1 group(P<0.001)and N0 group(P<0.001).In the subgroup analysis,similar results were found in patients with positive lymph nodes of stage T1a(100.0%vs.61.1%),T1b(84.1%vs.64.3%),and T2a(74.4%vs.63.8%).In patients with T1b1 and T2a1,primary surgery resulted in longer OS than primary radiation,but not in patients with T1b2 and T2a2.In multivariate analysis,the primary treatment was identified as an independent prognostic factor in both N1 and N0 patients(HR_(N1)=2.522,95%CI=1.919–3.054,PN1<0.001;HR_(N0)=1.895,95%CI=1.689–2.126,PN0<0.001).Conclusion In early cervical cancer stage T1a,T1b1,and T2a1,primary surgery may result in longer OS than primary radiation for patients with and without lymph node metastasis.

Influence of heat treatments on incipient melting structures of DD5 nickel-based single crystal superalloy

The evolution of microstructure and formation mechanism of incipient melting microstructure of DD5 single crystal superalloy during solution heat treatment were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),electron probe microanalysis(EPMA),and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).The solidus and liquidus of single crystal alloy were obtained by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).Results show that the mosaic-like eutectic and fan-like eutectic are dissolved at first,and the coarseγ'phase is dissolved later during the solution heat treatment of 1,390°C/2 h+1,310°C/4 h+1,320°C/10 h+air cooling(AC).The composition segregations of Al,Ta,W and Re are 0.99,0.96,1.04 and 1.16,respectively,which close to 1.The incipient melting is caused by the low local temperature of the alloy,and the micropore region with a lower melting point is the preferred position for incipient melting.

Expanded mesocarbon microbead cathode for sodium-based dual-ion battery with superior specific capacity and long-term cycling stability

Dual-ion batteries(DIBs)have attracted tremendous attention owing to their high operating voltage and are considered promising candidates for low-cost clean energy storage devices.However,the decomposition of electrolytes and collapse of the cathode structure may lead to low Coulombic efficiency(CE)and low cycling stability of DIBs.Wide-layered electrode materials can accommodate the intercalation/deintercalation of large anions,which is believed to overcome these issues.Herein,expanded mesocarbon microbeads(200HRO-MCMB)possessing an enlarged interlayer spacing(0.405 nm)were prepared via modified Hummers and subcritical hydrothermal reduction methods.After the indispensable electrochemical activation,200HRO-MCMB(hydrothermal reduction at 200℃)exhibited a high specific capacity(120 mAh·g^(-1)at50 mA·g^(-1))when used as a cathode for a sodium-based DIB,and the CE significantly improved within the 2.0-4.5 V voltage range.Additionally,the cycling stability exceeded over 600 cycles.Remarkably,this cathode possessed enlarged interlayers that decreased the barrier of PF6^(-)transport,and the battery storage mechanism corresponded to a transitioning state between double-layer capacitance and Faradaic intercalation.Undoubtedly,this work will expand the scope of the practical application of low-cost sodium-based DIBs.
