With continuous population and economic growth in the 21st century,plastic pollution is a major global ***,the health concern of microplastics/nanoplastics(MPs/NPs)decomposed from plastic wastes has drawn public attention only in the recent *** article summarizes recent works dedicated to understanding the impact of MPs/NPs on the liver-the largest digestive organ,which is one of the primary routes that MPs/NPs enter human *** interrelated mechanisms including oxidative stress,hepatocyte energy re-distribution,cell death and autophagy,as well as immune responses and inflammation,were also *** addition,the disturbance of microbiome and gut-liver axis,and the association with clinical diseases such as metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease,steatohepatitis,liver fibrosis,and cirrhosis were briefly ***,we discussed potential directions in regard to this trending topic,highlighted current challenges in research,and proposed possible solutions.

In recent decades,Southwest China(SWC)has suffered from frequent super droughts,leading to severe economic losses and ecological *** study investigates the characteristics of super droughts in SWC during 1961-2022,reveals the compounding effect of multiscalar anomalies,and explores the plausible atmospheric circulation mechanisms *** nature of super drought is a compound drought caused by the superposition of extreme drought events across multiple time *** contrasting the typical drought cases in 2006 and 2022,the decisive role of multiscalar drought compounding is *** on the Comprehensive Multiscalar Index(CMI),multiple super drought events in SWC were identified to be temporally clustered during *** them,the decadal background of enhanced evaporation and precipitation deficit at long time scales is a necessary condition for shaping the overall pattern of super droughts,while the precipitation and evaporation anomalies at short time scales trigger the outbreak of super droughts,determining the exact timing of *** events include August-September 2006,November 2009 to May 2010,July-October 2011,April-May 2012,January-April 2013,*** results suggest that the contribution of superposed precipitation anomalies to super drought is 2.4 times that of *** regards the circulation mechanisms affecting multiscalar precipitation,the anomalous spatial patterns at short-term and long-term scales are similar,featuring the cyclonic circulation over the South China Sea and the northeasterly wind anomalies together with the subsidence center over *** 2006-2014,the possible causes for the cross-seasonal persistent precipitation reduction in SWC are the extreme negative phase of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO)in the North Pacific as well as the pronounced warming of the warm pool in the western *** key dynamic processes are outlined as *** the one hand,the negative PDO p

African swine fever virus(ASFV)infection poses enormous threats and challenges to the global pig industry;however,no effective vaccine is available against ASFV,attributing to the huge viral genome(approximately189 kb)and numerous encoding products(>150 genes)due to the limited understanding on the molecular mechanisms of viral *** the host-factor/viral-protein interaction network will reveal new targets for developing novel antiviral *** proteomic analysis,we identified 255 cellular proteins that interact with the ASFV-encoded pE301R protein when transiently expressed in HEK293T *** ontology(GO)annotation,Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)database enrichment,and protein-protein interaction(PPI)network analyses revealed that pE301R-interacting host proteins are potentially involved in various biological processes,including protein translation and folding,response to stimulation,and mitochondrial transmembrane *** interactions of two putative cellular proteins(apoptosis inducing factor mitochondria associated 1(AIFM1)and vimentin(VIM))with pE301R-apoptosis inducing factor have been verified by *** study revealed the inhibitory role of pE301R in interferon(IFN)induction that involves VIM sequestration by pE301R,identified interactions between ASFV pE301R and cellular proteins,and predicted the potential function of pE301R and its associated biological processes,providing valuable information to enhance our understanding of viral protein function,pathogenesis,and potential candidates for the prevention and control of ASFV infection.

Sedimentary erosive processes and sediment dispersal in Kaoping submarine canyon

The Kaoping submarine canyon, connected to the Kaoping River in the coastal plain in SW Taiwan, continues the dispersal path of modern Kaoping River sediments, from an active small mountainous drain basin to the receiving basin of the South China Sea. Using seismic reflection sections, Chirp sonar profiles, and bathymetric mapping, we reveal characteristic erosive processes responsible for multiple cut-and-fill features, deeply entrenched thalweg, and sediment dispersal that are closely related to turbidity currents in the canyon. The river-canyon connection setting, along with extreme climatic conditions and active tectonism, is favorable for generation of turbidity currents at the canyon head. The upper reach of the Kaoping Canyon is distinguished into three distinct morpho/sedimentary features. The canyon head is characterized by V-shaped axial thalweg erosion. The sinuous segment of the upper reach is dominated by a deeply incised canyon pathway with trough-like morphol- ogy. Relatively small-scaled features of cut-and-fill associated with the dominant incision process are commonly along the canyon floor, resulting in a flat-floored pathway. Sliding and slumping dominated the steep canyon walls, producing and transporting sediments to canyon floor and partially filling up canyon thalweg. The meandering segment is characterized by erosive features where deeply down-cutting occurs in the outer bend of the major sea valley, forming V-shaped entrenched thalweg. The recurrences of turbidity currents have allowed continuous incision of the canyon head and have kept the connec- tion between the canyon head and the river mouth during Holocene highstand of sea level. The upper reach of the Kaoping Canyon is linked to drainage area and maintains as a conduit and/or sink for terrigenous and shallow marine material. Traditional Chinese Medicine-facilitated switch from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone for treatment of heroin dependence: a case report

The switch from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone for individuals with heroin dependence is associated with several obstacles and *** patients may experience discomfort from discontinuing methadone, precipitated withdrawal symptoms induced by buprenorphine-naloxone,and poor psychosocial adjustments such as anticipatory anxiety regarding severe opioid *** herein describe a 46-year-old man with a history of heroin dependence who underwent Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)-facilitated switching from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone. No precipitated withdrawal was induced by buprenorphine-naloxone. The drug-switching process was successful and smooth. He maintained abstinence from heroin for the following year. In this case, we applied TCM for enhancement of methadone metabolism and detoxification, analgesic effects, and anxiolytic and hypnotic effects during the drug switch. We observed that TCM effectively facilitated the switch from methadone to buprenorphine-naloxone in our case. Further studies regarding TCM-facilitated treatment for heroin dependence should be conducted.

A generalized Norde plot for reverse biased Schottky contacts

When a metal makes intimate contact with a semiconductor material, a Schottky barrier may be created. The Schottky contact has many important applications in the integrated circuit (IC) electronics field. The parameters of such contacts can be determined from their current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. The literature contains many proposals for extracting the contact parameters using graphical methods. However, such methods are generally applicable only to contacts with a forward bias, whereas many Schottky contacts actually operate under a reverse bias. Accordingly, the present study proposed a generalized reverse current-voltage (I-V) plot which enables the series resis-tance, barrier height, and ideality factor of a reverse biased Schottky contact to be extracted from a single set of I-V measurements. A theo-retical derivation of the proposed approach was presented and a series of validation tests were then performed. The results show that the proposed method is capable of extracting reliable estimates of the contact parameters even in the presence of experimental noise.

Adjusting Sink Location to Reduce End-to-End Delay in Low-Duty-Cycle Wireless Sensor Networks

Low-duty-cycle mechanisms can reduce the energy consumption significantly in wireless sensor networks（WSNs）. Sensors stay dormant most of the time to save their energy and wake up based on their needs. However, such a technique, while prolonging the network lifetime, sets excessive challenges for reducing the end-to-end（E2E） delay within the network. In this paper, the centralized cluster-based location finding（CCLF） algorithm is proposed to reduce the high latency in low-duty-cycle WSNs by finding a suitable position for the sink. The algorithm is mainly composed of three steps： a） the cluster construction, b） the fast look-up table（FLU-table） construction, and c） the sink location decision. The simulation results show that the performance of the CCLF algorithm is significantly similar to that of the optimal algorithm. Moreover, the CCLF algorithm requires less operation time compared with the optimal algorithm.
