Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome:Clinical features,pathophysiology,diagnosis and treatment strategies

Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) is an uncommon benign disease, characterized by a combination of symptoms, clinical findings and histological abnormalities. Ulcers are only found in 40% of the patients; 20% of the patients have a solitary ulcer, and the rest of the lesions vary in shape and size, from hyperemic mucosa to broad-based polypoid. Men and women are affected equally, with a small predominance in women. SRUS has also been described in children and in the geriatric population. Clinical features include rectal bleeding, copious mucus discharge, prolonged excessive straining, perineal and abdominal pain, feeling of incomplete defecation, constipation, and rarely, rectal prolapse. This disease has well-described histopathological features such as obliteration of the lamina propria by fibrosis and smooth muscle fibers extending from a thickened muscularis mucosa to the lumen. Diffuse collage deposition in the lamina propria and abnormal smooth muscle fiber extensions are sensitive markers for differ-entiating SRUS from other conditions. However, the etiology remains obscure, and the condition is frequently associated with pelvic floor disorders. SRUS is difficult to treat, and various treatment strategies have been advocated, ranging from conservative management to a variety of surgical procedures. The aim of the present review is to summarize the clinical features, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods and treatment strategies associated with SRUS. New fast algorithm for hypercomplex decomposition and hypercomplex cross-correlation

In order to calculate the cross-correlation of two color images treated as vector in a holistic manner,a rapid vertical/parallel decomposition algorithm for quaternion is *** calculation for decomposition is reduced from 21 times to 4 times real number multiplications with the same *** algorithm for cross-correlation of color images based on decomposition in time domain is put forward,in which some properties pointed out in this paper can be utilized to reduce the computational *** results show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

Leading-edge receptivity of boundary layer to three-dimensional free-stream turbulence

The laminar-turbulent transition has always been a hot topic of fluid mechanics. Receptivity is the initial stage and plays a crucial role in the entire transition process. The previous studies of receptivity focus on external disturbances such as sound waves and vortices in the free stream, whereas those on the leading-edge receptivity to the three-dimensional free-stream turbulence (FST), which is more general in the nature, are rarely reported. In consideration of this, this work is devoted to investigating the receptivity process of three-dimensional Tollmien-Schlichting (T-S) wave packets excited by the three-dimensional FST in a flat-plate boundary layer numerically. The relations between the leading-edge receptivity and the turbulence intensity are established, and the influence of the FST directions on the propagation directions and group velocities of the excited T-S wave packets is studied. Moreover, the leading-edge receptivity to the anisotropic FST is also studied. This parametric investigation can contribute to the prediction of laminar-turbulent transition.

The contribution of absorption of integral nanocrystals to enhancement of oral bioavailability of quercetin

In this study,self-discriminating hybrid nanocrystals was utilized to explore the biological fate of quercetin hybrid nanocrystals(QT-HNCs)with diameter around 280 nm(QT-HNCs-280)and550 nm(QT-HNCs-550)following oral and intravenous administration and the contribution of integral nanocrystals to oral bioavailability enhancement of QT was estimated by comparing the absolute exposure of integral QT-HNCs and total QT in the *** showed that QT-HNCs could reside in vivo as intact nanocrystals for as long as 48 h following oral and intravenous administration.A higher accumulation of integral QT-HNCs in liver and lung was observed for both oral and intravenous administration of *** particle size affects the absorption and biodistribution of integral QT-HNCs and total *** compared to QT-HNCs-550,QT-HNCs-280 with smaller particle size is more easily absorbed,but dissolves faster in vivo,leading to higher distribution of QT(146.90 vs.117.91 h·mg/mL)but lower accumulation of integral nanocrystals(6.82 e10 vs.15.27 e10 h·[p/s]/[μW/cm2])in liver following oral *** to its slower dissolution and enhanced recognition by RES,QT-HNCs-550 with larger diameter shows higher liver distribution for both of QT(1015.80 h·mg/mL)and integral nanocrystals(259.63 e10 h·[p/s]/[μW/cm2])than those of QT-HNCs-280(673.82&77.66 e10 h·[p/s]/[μW/cm2])following intravenous *** absolute exposure of integral QT-HNCs in liver following oral administration of QT-HNCs are 8.78%for QT-HNCs-280 and 5.88%for QT-HNCs-550,while the absolute exposure of total QT for QT-HNCs-280 and QT-HNCs-550 are 21.80%and 11.61%,*** to imprecise quantifcation method,a surprisingly high contribution of integral QT-HNCs to oral bioavailability enhancement of QT(40.27%for QT-HNCs-280 and 50.65%for QT-HNCs-550)was *** results revealed signifcant difference in absorption and biodistrbution between integral nanocrystals and overall drugs following oral and intr

Understanding co-run performance on CPU-GPU integrated processors： observations, insights, directions

Recent years have witnessed a processor develop- ment trend that integrates central processing unit （CPU） and graphic processing unit （GPU） into a single chip. The inte- gration helps to save some host-device data copying that a discrete GPU usually requires, but also introduces deep re- source sharing and possible interference between CPU and GPU. This work investigates the performance implications of independently co-running CPU and GPU programs on these platforms. First, we perform a comprehensive measurement that covers a wide variety of factors, including processor ar- chitectures, operating systems, benchmarks, timing mecha- nisms, inputs, and power management schemes. These mea- surements reveal a number of surprising observations. We an- alyze these observations and produce a list of novel insights, including the important roles of operating system （OS） con- text switching and power management in determining the program performance, and the subtle effect of CPU-GPU data copying. Finally, we confirm those insights through case studies, and point out some promising directions to mitigate anomalous performance degradation on integrated heteroge- neous processors.

Mepanipyrim induces cardiotoxicity of zebrafish(Danio rerio) larvae via promoting AhR-regulated COX expression pathway

The wide use of pesticides has seriously threatened human health and the survival of beneficial organisms. The fungicide mepanipyrim is widely used in viticulture practices. Studies of mepanipyrim-induced toxicity in organisms are still scarce, especially studies on cardiotoxicity. In this study, we aimed to investigate mepanipyrim-induced cardiotoxicity in zebrafish(Danio rerio) larvae. We found that mepanipyrim could induce cardiotoxicity by altering the heart rate and cardiomyocyte diameter of larvae. Meanwhile, RNA sequencing and RT-qPCR data indicated that mepanipyrim exposure could dramatically alter the m RNA expression of calcium signaling pathway-, cardiac muscle contraction-, and oxidative respiratory chain-related genes. Interestingly, by the CALUX cell bioassay, we found that most cytochrome c oxidase(COX) family genes exhibited potential AhR-regulated activity, suggesting that mepanipyrim induced cardiotoxicity via a novel AhR-regulated manner in ***, the AhR antagonist CH_(2)23191 could effectively prevent mepanipyrim-induced cardiotoxicity in zebrafish larvae. In conclusion, the AhR agonist mepanipyrim could induce cardiotoxicity in a novel unreported AhR-regulated manner, which could specifically affect the expression of COX family genes involved in the mitochondrial oxidative respiratory chain. Our data will help explain the toxic effects of mepanipyrim on organisms and provide new insight into the AhR agonistic activity pesticide-induced cardiotoxicity.

Resolving the GPU responsiveness dilemma through program transformations

The emerging integrated CPU-GPU architectures facilitate short computational kernels to utilize GPU acceleration. Evidence has shown that, on such systems, the GPU control responsiveness （how soon the host program finds out about the completion of a GPU kernel） is essential for the overall performance. This study identifies the GPU responsiveness dilemma： host busy polling responds quickly, but at the expense of high energy consumption and interference with co-running CPU programs; interrupt-based notification minimizes energy and CPU interference costs, but suffers from substantial response delay. We present a programlevel solution that wakes up the host program in anticipation of GPU kernel completion. We systematically explore the design space of an anticipatory wakeup scheme through a timerdelayed wakeup or kernel splitting-based pre-completion notification. Experiments show that our proposed technique can achieve the best of both worlds, high responsiveness with low power and CPU costs, for a wide range of GPU workloads.

The endo-beta mannase MAN7 contributes to cadmium tolerance by modulating root cell wall binding capacity in Arabidopsis thaliana

The heavy metal cadmium(Cd) is detrimental to crop growth and threatens human health through the food chain. To cope with Cd toxicity,plants employ multiple strategies to decrease Cd uptake and its root-to-shoot translocation. However, genes that participate in the Cd-induced transcriptional regulatory network, including those encoding transcription factors, remain largely unidentified. In this study, we demonstrate that ENDO-BETA-MANNASE 7(MAN7) is necessary for the response of Arabidopsis thaliana to toxic Cd levels. We show that MAN7 is responsible for mannase activity and modulates mannose content in the cell wall, which plays a role in Cd compartmentalization in the cell wall under Cd toxicity conditions. Additionally,the repression of root growth by Cd was partially reversed via exogenous application of mannose,suggesting that MAN7-mediated cell wall Cd redistribution depends on the mannose ***, we identified a basic leucine zipper(bZIP) transcription factor, bZIP44, that acts upstream of MAN7 in response to Cd *** dual-luciferase assays indicated that bZIP44 directly binds to the MAN7 promoter region and activates its transcription. Loss of bZIP44 function was associated with greater sensitivity to Cd treatment and higher accumulation of the heavy metal in roots and ***, MAN7 overexpression relieved the inhibition of root elongation seen in the bzip44mutant under Cd toxicity conditions. This study thus reveals a pathway showing that MAN7-associated Cd tolerance in Arabidopsis is controlled by bZIP44 upon Cd exposure.
