Dramatical enhancement of circular dichroism in chiral hybrid perovskites via carboxylic hydrogen bond engineering

Chiral hybrid perovskites （CHPs） have been regarded as promising candidates for developing chiroptoelectronics ***,circular dichroism （CD）,as one of the most important characteristics to evaluate the chiroptical activity,remains at a comparatively low level in CHPs compared to other chiral materials,which hinders the successful applications of CHPs in stateof-the-art ***,exploring new methods for enhancing CD in CHPs is urgently needed and remains ***,enhanced CD response has been successfully realized via constructing carboxylic hydrogen bonding in chiralachiral mixed cations perovskites （R/S-PPA）2（ABA）PbBr5（2R/2S）(PPA=1-phenylpropylamine,ABA=4-aminobutyric acid).Compared with the prototype （R/S-PPA）PbBr3（1R/1S）,2R/2S provide intimate connections between organic units and inorganic parts via carboxylic hydrogen bonding N–H···O bridge,contributing new chirality transfer paths.A larger inorganic skeletons’helicity in 2R/2S predicts a high degree of chirality ***,2R/2S exhibit significantly enhanced CD response with an anisotropy factor amplified by an order of ***,bright blue circularly polarized luminescence applications are achieved in 2R/*** work systematically investigates the correlation between CD and hydrogen bonding interaction in CHPs,meanwhile providing a new avenue to develop the application potential of chiral materials in chiroptoelectronics.

Covert communication with beamforming over MISO channels in the finite blocklength regime

This paper considers beamforming techniques for covert communication over multiple input single output(MISO) channels with finite blocklength. We first show that the optimal input distribution for covert communication over complex Gaussian channels is circular symmetric complex Gaussian. By reviewing our previous results on the throughput of Gaussian random coding over additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channels, the achievability and converse bounds on the attainable throughput over MISO channels are analyzed. Then, the optimal beamforming strategies and their relationship with the transmitting power are thoroughly investigated in a variety of situations in terms of several types of channel state information available at both ends of the system. We reveal the fact that the maximal allowable transmit power is not constrained by covertness requirement when there is full channel information of the adversary, while there is an upper bound of the transmit power which is based on beamforming and an outage-based covertness criterion if there is only partial channel information of the adversary. Finally, numerical results are presented to show that the throughput of covert communication can be increased notably by adopting a proper beamforming strategy in MISO channels in comparison with the single antenna case.

Calibration of the Solar X-ray Detector on-board the Macao Science Satellite-1B for Soft X-ray Detection

The Solar X-ray Detector(SXD) on-board the Macao Science Satellite-1B(MSS-1B) was successfully launched via the Chinese Long March-2C rocket on 21 May 2023, and commenced operations in early June of the same year. The MSS-1B/Soft X-ray Detection Units(SXDUs) employ two silicon drift detectors(SDDs), providing a wide range of energy spectra spanning from 0.7 to 24 keV. Notably, the SXDUs deliver a high-resolution capability of 0.14 keV@5.9 keV and operate with a time cadence of 1 second. Here, we perform thorough calibrations of the MSS-1B/SXDUs, employing a combination of ground experiments and simulations. In addition, quantitative analysis comparing the flux measurements obtained by the MSS-1B/SXDUs to the data collected by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES), provides compelling evidence of their consistency. Furthermore, the preliminary spectral analysis results showcase the robustness and expected performance of the MSS-1B/SXDUs, unlocking their potential for facilitating the study of dynamic evolution of solar flares. Moreover, the innovative MSS-1B/Solar X-ray Detector facilitates concurrent observations of solar soft and hard X-rays, thereby making valuable contributions to the advancements in solar research.

Theranostics that integrates therapy and diagnosis in one system to achieve accurate cancer diagnosis and treatment has attracted tremendous interest,and has been recognized as a potential breakthrough in overcoming the challenges of conventional *** are ideal candidates as carriers for theranostic agents,which is attributed to their extraordinary physicochemical properties,including nanoscale sizes,functional properties,prolonged blood circulation,active or passive tumor targeting,specific cellular uptake,and in some cases,excellent optical properties that ideally meet the needs of phototherapy and imaging at the same ***,with the development of nanotechnology,theranostics has become a reality,and is now in the transition stage of"bench to bedside."In this review,we summarize recent progress on nanotechnology-based theranostics,i.e.,nanotheranostics,that has greatly assisted traditional therapies,and has provided therapeutic strategies emerging in recent decades,as well as"cocktail"theranostics mixing various treatment modalities.

Spreading rate dependence of morphological characteristics in global oceanic transform faults

We quantified the systematic variations in global transform fault morphology,revealing a first-order dependence on the spreading rate.(1)The average age offset of both the full transform and transform sub-segments decrease with increasing spreading rate.(2)The average depth of both the transform valley and adjacent ridges are smaller in the fast compared to the slow systems,reflecting possibly density anomalies associated with warmer mantle at the fast systems and rifting at the slow ***,the average depth difference between the transform valley and adjacent ridges is relatively constant from the fast to slow systems.(3)The nodal basin at a ridge-transform intersection is deeper and dominant at the ultraslow and slow systems,possibly reflecting a lower magma supply and stronger viscous resistance to mantle upwelling near a colder transform *** contrast,the nodal high,is most prominent in the fast,intermediate,and hotspot-influenced systems,where robust axial volcanic ridges extend toward the ridge-transform intersection.(4)Statistically,the average transform valley is wider at a transform system of larger age offset,reflecting thicker deforming plates flanking the transform fault.(5)The maximum magnitude of the transform earthquakes increases with age offset owing to an increase in the seismogenic *** transform faults also exhibit significant anomalies owing to the complex local tectonic and magmatic processes.

Multi-Factor Intensity Estimation for Tropical Cyclones in the Western North Pacific Based on the Deviation Angle Variance Technique

In this paper, the infrared cloud images from Fengyun series geostationary satellites and the best track data from the China Meteorological Administration(CMA-BST) in 2015–2017 are used to investigate the effects of two multifactor models, generalized linear model(GLM) and long short-term memory(LSTM) model, for tropical cyclone(TC) intensity estimation based on the deviation angle variance(DAV) technique. For comparison, the typical singlefactor Sigmoid function model(SFM) with the map minimum value of DAV is also used to produce TC intensity estimation. Sensitivity experiments regarding the DAV calculation radius and different training data groups are conducted, and the estimation precision and optimum calculation radius for DAV in the western North Pacific(WNP) are analyzed. The results show that the root-mean-square-error(RMSE) of the single-factor SFM is 8.79–13.91 m s^-1 by using the individual years as test sets and the remaining two years as training sets with the optimum calculation radius of 550 km. However, after selecting and using the high-correlation multiple factors from the same test and training data, the RMSEs of GLM and LSTM models decrease to 5.93–8.68 and 4.99–7.00 m s^-1 respectively, with their own optimum calculation radii of 350 and 400 km. All the sensitivity experiments indicate that the SFM results are significantly influenced by the DAV calculation radius and characteristics of the training set data, while the results of multi-factor models appear more stable. Furthermore, the multi-factor models reduce the optimum radius within the process of DAV calculation and improve the precision of TC intensity estimation in the WNP, which can be chosen as an effective approach for TC intensity estimation in marine areas.

BACKGROUND Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)is the most malignant type of lung *** in the latent period and early stage of the tumor,SCLC is prone to produce distant metastases with complex and diverse clinical *** is most closely related to paraneoplastic syndrome,and some cases present as paraneoplastic peripheral neuropathy(PPN).PPN in SCLC appears early,lacks specificity,and often occurs before diagnosis of the primary *** is easy to be misdiagnosed as a primary disease of the nervous system,leading to missed diagnosis and delayed diagnosis and *** SUMMARY This paper reports two cases of SCLC with limb weakness as the first *** first symptoms of one patient were rash,limb weakness,and abnormal *** patient was repeatedly referred to the hospital for limb weakness and rash for>1 year,during which time,treatment with hormones and immunosuppressants did not lead to significant improvement,and the condition gradually *** patient was later diagnosed with SCLC,and the dyskinesia did not worsen as the dermatomyositis improved after antineoplastic and hormone *** second case presented with limb numbness and weakness as the first symptom,but the patient did not pay attention to ***,the patient was diagnosed with SCLC after facial edema caused by tumor thrombus invading the ***,he was diagnosed with extensive SCLC and died 1 year after *** The two cases had PPN and abnormal electromyography,highlighting its correlation with early clinical indicators of SCLC.

What is the right way to quench star formation in semi-analytic models of galaxy formation?

Semi-analytic models of galaxy formation are powerful tools to study the evolution of a galaxy population in a cosmological context. However, most models overpredict the number of low- mass galaxies at high redshifts and the colors of model galaxies are not right in the sense that low-mass satellite galaxies are too red and centrals are too blue. The recent version of the L-Galaxies model by Henriques et al. （H15） is a step forward to solve these problems by reproducing the evolution of stellar mass function and the overall fraction of red galaxies. In this paper we compare the two model predictions of L-Galaxies （the other is Guo et al., G13） to SDSS data in detail. We find that in the H15 model the red fraction of central galaxies now agrees with the data due to their implementation of strong AGN feedback, but the stellar mass of centrals in massive halos is now slightly lower than what is indicated by the data. For satellite galaxies, the red fraction of low-mass galaxies （log M./M~ 〈 10） also agrees with the data, but the color of massive satellites （10 〈 logM,/M~ 〈 11） is slightly bluer. The correct color of centrals and the bluer color of massive satellites indicate that quenching in massive satellites is not strong enough. We also find that there are too many red spirals and less bulge-dominated galaxies in both H15 and G13 models. Our results suggest that additional mechanisms, such as more minor mergers or disk instability, are needed to slightly increase the stellar mass of the central galaxy in massive galaxies, mainly in the bulge component, and bulge dominated galaxies will be quenched not only by minor mergers, but also by some other mechanisms.

Nonlinear interaction mechanisms of disturbances in supersonic flat-plate boundary layers

Deposition of aerosol in a laminar pipe flow

In a laminar pipe flow, thermophoretic deposition occurs when the temperature of the pipe wall is less than the temperature of the fluid. For a horizontal pipe, gravity has a significant effect on the deposition of aerosol. Due to the laminar flow of gas fluid, a lift force is imposed on the particle and could affect the deposition of aerosol. In the present work, we considered the influences of various factors on the deposition of aerosol, including diffusion and convection, thermophoresis, gravi- tational settling and the lift force effect. The revised semi-implicit method for pressure-linked (SIMPLER) was employed to solve the aerosol transport equation. The deposition efficiency of aerosol in a pipe was obtained and the concentration distribution of aerosol at an arbitrary cross-section of pipe was given. The results reveal that when gravitational settling was considered the deposition efficiency had a minimum, corresponding to the penetration efficiency having a maximum. For large particles, the deposition of aerosol was dominated by external forces, and the critical particle trajectory method (CPTM) was used to analyze the deposition of aerosol with the action of thermophoretic force and gravity. The result from CPTM coincided very well with the result from SIMPLER.
