Clinical characteristics and risk factors of Talaromyces marneffei infection in human immunodeficiency virus-negative patients: A retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND: To investigate the clinical characteristics and risk factors of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-negative patients with Talaromyces marneffei(T. marneffei) ***: We retrospectively collected the clinical information of HIV-negative patients with T. marneffei infection from January 1, 2010 to June 30, 2019, and analyzed the related risk factors of poor ***: Twenty-five cases aging 22 to 79 years were included. Manifestations of T. marneffei infection included fever, cough, dyspnea, chest pain or distress, lymphadenopathy, ear, nose, and throat(ENT) and/or skin lesions, bone or joint pain, edema and pain in the lower extremities, digestive symptoms, icterus, malaise, and hoarseness. Two cases had no comorbidity, while 23 cases suff ered from autoimmune disease, pulmonary disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Sixteen cases had a medication history of glucocorticoids, chemotherapy or immunosuppressors. Pulmonary lesions included interstitial infiltration, nodules, atelectasis, cavitary lesions, pleural effusion or hydropneumothorax, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary edema, and consolidation. The incidence of osteolytic lesions was 20%. Eight patients received antifungal monotherapy, and 11 patients received combined antifungal agents. Fifteen patients survived and ten patients were dead. The Cox regression analysis showed that reduced eosinophil counts, higher levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), lactic dehydrogenase(LDH), myoglobin(Mb), procalcitonin(PCT), and galactomannan were related to poor prognosis(hazard ratio [HR]>1, P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS: Bone destruction is common in HIV-negative patients with T. marneffei infection. Defective cell-mediated immunity, active infection, multiple system, and organ damage can be the risk factors of poor prognosis.

Density Functional Theory for the Investigation of Catalytic Activity of X@Cu_(12)(X = Cu, Ni, Co, or Fe) for N_2O Decomposition

We have investigated the reaction mechanism for N20 decomposition on Cu13 via density functional theory. It is found that N20 decomposition on the cluster is more prone to be along the Eley-Rideal （ER） pathway in comparison with the Langmuir-Hinshelwood （LH） channel. There exists structural relaxation for Cu13 cluster in the reaction, which may influence the catalytic activity of cluster for the subsequent N2O decomposition. The core atom in the Cu13 cluster is substituted with the Fe, Co, or Ni to enhance structural stability and prevent from the obvious configuration relaxation in the reaction. Note that these bimetallic clusters are of icosahedra as the Cu13. They have activities for N2O dissociation along ER pathway and the heteroatorn in the cluster can prevent configuration from relaxation. Finally, the Ni@Cu12 cluster can be as a superior catalyst in a complete catalytic cycle via comparison in this study.

A rhodamine-based sensor（1） has been developed for the detection of chromium ***-（3＋）-induced opening of the rhodamine spirocycle in sensor（1） led to the distinct colorimetric and fluorescence *** all the tested ions,only Cr-（3＋） generated a significant fluorescence enhancement of up to13-fold,which indicated the high selectivity of ***（1） was successfully applied in the in vivo fluorescence imaging of Cr-（3＋） in *** results provided solid evidences for the future estimation of Cr-（3＋） in environmental applications and tobacco samples.

A rhodamine derivative for Hg^(2+) -selective colorimetric and fluorescent sensing and its application to in vivo imaging

A rhodamine-based sensor has been developed for the detection of mercuric ions. The colorimetric and fluorescence responses, allowing naked-eye detections, are based on Hg^2＋-induced opening of the rhodamine spirocycle. Among all the testes ions, only Hg^2＋generated a significant fluorescence enhancement of up to 300-fold, with a bright yellow–green emission. This sensor was a low toxic compound, and was successfully applied in the in vivo imaging of Hg^2＋in Spill 2 cells and C. elegans. This approach provides a sensitive and accurate method for the estimation of Hg^2＋in environmental, tobacco and biological applications.

Nanoclusters Au19Pd and Au19Pt Catalyzing CO Oxidation: a Density Functional Study

The gold atoms on the Au20 cluster had been substituted by the palladium and platinum atoms to obtain the doped clusters with more stable geometries as a function of the bind energy and interaction energy in the previous study. Therefore, we investigated the catalytic activities of the Au_(19)Pd and Au_(19)Pt clusters for CO oxidation along the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. It is found that the coadsorption of CO and O2 on the doped clusters is obviously stronger than on the Au20 cluster, especially on the doped atom, which makes potential energy of the transition state lower than the total energy of the reactants so that it can promote CO oxidation. The reaction on these doped clusters with the heteroatom on the vertex is more difficult. However, the Au_(19)Pd(S) is more prone to catalyzing the CO oxidation, in which the rate-limiting step has the lower energy barrier of 38.84 kJ/mol for this study. Therefore, the single atom can be modified to change the catalytic activity of the cluster for the CO oxidation. Meanwhile, the different sites on the clusters have different strengths of activity for the reaction.

Modeling the potential distribution of Argentine shortfin squid in the southwest Atlantic Ocean

The Argentine shortfin squid Illex argentinus is an economically important short-lived species widely distributed in the southwest Atlantic *** abundance and distribution of *** are associated with climate change and environmental *** potential distribution of *** was modeled with various environmental variables including sea surface temperature(SST),sea surface height(SSH),chlorophyll a,sea surface salinity(SSS),net primary productivity(NPP),mixed layer depth(MLD),eddy kinetic energy(EKE),and photosynthetically active radiation(PAR)using the maximum entropy(MaxEnt)approach during the peak fishing seasons(January–April).The habitat suitability index(HSI)was defined as the probability of species emergence from the MaxEnt model and the area of HSI≥0.6 was regarded as *** indicate that the predicted habitat correlated with the actual fishing position,with similar trends in the percentages of suitable habitats and catch per unit effort(CPUE)of *** from January to ***,SST,SSH,PAR,and MLD were identified critical environmental variables for the distribution of *** addition,the median of preferred ranges of the critical environmental variables were concentrated within the suitable habitats of *** Area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve(AUC)was greater than 0.96 for all four *** in latitudinal and longitudinal gravity centers(LATG and LONG)of fishing effort were consistent with latitudinal and longitudinal gravity centers(LATG_H and LONG_H)of the *** findings suggest that the MaxEnt model is an effective tool to predict the potential distribution of ***,SST,SSH,PAR,and MLD should be given with more extensive attention in predicting the potential distribution of ***,as they are important environmental indicators that can help decision-makers search for the fishing ground of *** in the Southwest Atlantic.

Comparison on Infectious Bursal Disease Monoclonal Antibodies Prepared with Two Different Immunogens

[ Objective] To compare the characteristics of monoclonal antibodies against infectious bursal disease virus （IBDV） prepared with two different immunogens, VP2 protein expressed by prokaryotic system and purified IBDV. [Methed] IBDV VP2 gene was amplified by RT-PCR and expressed in a prokaryotic system. The recombinant protein was purified by affinity chromatography. IBDV was pudfied by ultracentrifugation. Balb/c mice were immunized with the purified recombinant protein and IBDV, respectively. The monoclonal antibodies were screened by ELISA. [ Result] Two cell lines secreting antibodies against IBDV VP2 protein were obtained, and their ELISA titers were 1：2 × 10^4. Four cell lines secreting antibodies against I BDV were produced, and their ELISA titers were 1：2× 10^6, 1：6 × 10^4, 1：1× 10^5 and 1：4 × 10^3, respectively. All monoclonal antibodies specifically bound to their own immunogen but did not react with other viruses or proteins. After 10 -20 passages, these cell lines still secreted antibodies stably. [Condusion] The monoclonal antibodies prepared with the recombinant IBDV VP2 protein or purified IBDV can induce immune resoonse in mice. and VP2 soecific monoclonal antibodies can be obtained with VP2 orotein expressed in the Drokarvotic system as immunoQen.

Use of forestry waste as an alternative raw material for generating metallurgical coke

Forestry waste(FW)is a significant renewable energy source in *** substitution of coal blends(BC)with forestry waste to produce metallurgical coke was investigated aiming at expanding alternative resources and reducing CO_(2)emissions in ironmaking *** BC with different ratios of FW were carbonized in a fixed bed reactor,and the physicochemical structure of the coke derived from FW/BC co-carbonization was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,solid-state^(13)C nuclear magnetic resonance,optical microscopy,and scanning electron *** results reveal that the suitable incorporation of FW in BC is 10 wt.%,and the index of coke quality exhibits a good correlation with the optical anisotropy index and the aromaticity of the as-obtained *** partial substitution of BC with FW exhibits potential benefits for colloid formation,owing to the higher hydrogen in ***,as the substitution ratio of BC with FW increases,it inhibits coke agglomeration due to more tortuous stacked structures formation during volatile releasing ***,it was identified that the substitution of higher BC ratios with FW results in the partial replacement of aromatic carbons by oxygenlinked carbons and aliphatic *** substitution leads to a reduction in the aromaticity of the as-obtained coke.

No-go guide for the Hubble tension:Late-time or local-scale new physics

The standard model of modern cosmology might be cracked by the recent persistent hot debate on the Hubble-constant(H_(0))tension,which manifests itself as the sound-horizon(r_(s))tension or absolute-magnitude(M_(B))tension if deeming the origin of the Hubble tension from modifying the early or late Universe,*** this study,we achieve a fully model-independent constraint(fitting a model-independent global parameterization to a model-independent inverse distant ladder with a modelindependent high-redshift calibration)on late-time models with strong evidence against homogeneous new physics over theΛ-cold-dark-matter(ΛCDM)*** using this model-independent constraint to calibrate sufficiently local supernovae with corresponding late-time models extrapolated below the homogeneity scale,we find surprisingly that,although both H_(0)tension and MB tension are absent in our local Universe,a combination of H_(0)and M_(B)as the intercept a B of the magnitude-redshift relation exhibits 3~7σtension even for theΛCDM *** aBtension seems to call for local-scale inhomogeneous new physics disguised as local observational systematics.
