Nao-Fu-Cong ameliorates diabetic cognitive dysfunction by inhibition of JNK/CHOP/Bcl2-mediated apoptosis in vivo and in vitro

Chinese herbal compound Nao-Fu-Cong(NFC) has been mainly used to treat cognitive disorders in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM). The present study aimed to investigate whether its neuroprotective effects might be related to the inhibition of JNK/CHOP/Bcl2-mediated apoptosis pathway or not. We randomly assigned STZ(60 mg·k^(-1))-induced diabetic rats into control group, diabetic model group and NFC groups(low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose). The primary culture of hippocampal neurons were transferred into different culture media on the third day. The cells were then divided into control group, high-glucose group, NFC(low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose) groups, CHOP si-RNA intervention group, JNK pathway inhibitor SP600125 group and oxidative stress inhibitor N-acetylcysteine(NAC) group. NFC significantly improved the cognitive function of diabetic rats, and had neuroprotective effect on hippocampal neurons cultured in high glucose. Further research results showed that NFC could reduce the apoptosis of hippocampal neurons in rats with diabetic cognitive dysfunction. NFC had inhibitory effects on CHOP/JNK apoptosis pathway induced by high glucose, and also decreased the levels of ROS and increased the mitochondrial membrane potential. These suggested that the neuroprotective effect of NFC might be related to the inhibition of CHOP and JNK apoptotic signaling pathways, and the cross pathway between oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage pathway.

Sorption enhanced catalytic CF4 hydrolysis with a three-stage catalyst-adsorbent reactor

In this study, we developed a three-stage catalyst-adsorbent reactor for the catalytic hydrolysis of CF4. Each stage is composed of a catalyst bed followed by an adsorbent bed using Ca（OH）2 to remove HF. The three stages are connected in series to enhance the hydrolysis of CF4 and eliminate a scrubber to dissolve HF in water at the same time. With a 10 wt-% Ce/AlaO3 catalyst prepared by the incipient wetness method using boehmite and a granular calcium hydroxide as an adsorbent, the CF4 conversion in our proposed reactor was 7%-23% higher than that in a conventional single-bed catalytic reactor in the temperature range of 923-1023 K. In addition, experimental and numerical simulation （Aspen HYSYS） results showed a reasonable trend of increased CF4 conversion with the adsorbent added and these results can be used as a useful design guideline for our newly proposed multistage reactor system.

The dual effects of ethylene on the negative gravicurvature of arabidopsis inflorescence, an intriguing action model for the plant hormone ethylene

Ethylene was found to alter the shoot gravitropic response a century ago. However, its actual effects remained controversial over the century. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ethylene on the gravitropic response of Arabidopsis inflorescence and discovered that although the intact Arabidopsis inflorescence bent upward at the rate of 43° ±3°/h in the first 1.5 h under the given control growth conditions, it bent upward at a rate of 20°±3° and 64°±14°/h in the presence of exogenous ethylene if the plants were pretreated for 0.5 and 12 h, respectively, before the initiation of gravistimulation. The increase in gravicur-vature rate is proportional to the length of ethylene pre-treatment. The minimum ethylene pretreatment time required for achieving the maximum curvature rate is 10 -11 h with removal of exogenous ethylene. The stimulatory effect of ethylene on the inflorescence gravicurvature requires a latent period of time (1h) to become measurable. In contrast, the inhibitory

Self-assembly of Au/MoS_(2) quantum dots core-satellite hybrid as efficient electrocatalyst for hydrogen production

Ultra-small MoS_(2) quantum dots(QDs)with an average size of 2.48 nm coated on Au nanoparticles with a core-satellite structure(Au/MoS_(2) QDs)are successfully prepared by a self-assembly strategy through the strong bonding between Au and *** from the unique structure,the Au/MoS_(2) QDs hybrid exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic performance toward hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).The Au/MoS_(2) QDs hybrid needs overpotentials of 112,146,and 206 mV to approach current densities of 10,20,and 50 mA·cm^(−2) in 0.5 mol·L^(−1) H_(2)SO_(4)(pH=0.3),*** a low Tafel slope(83 mV·dec^(−1))is *** catalyst also displays satisfactory stability and durability,indicating a negligible current density loss after 20 h of *** high hydrogen generation activities and stability are attributed to the great number of active sites,high conductivity and synergistic effects between gold nanoparticles(Au NPs)and MoS_(2) *** but not least,this strategy opens up a favorable way to combine MoS_(2) QDs with other metals.

A metal-free composite photocatalyst of graphene quantum dots deposited on red phosphorus

A simple approach to enhance the photocatalytic activity of red phosphorus（P） was developed.A mechanical ball milling method was applied to reduce the size of red P and to deposit graphene quantum dots onto red P. The product was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, contact angle measurements, zeta-potential measurements, X-ray diffraction and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The product exhibited high visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance in the photodegradation of rhodamine B.

Dual versus single antiplatelet therapy for patients with long-term oral anticoagulation undergoing coronary intervention： a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective The main aim of this meta-analysis is to compare the efficacy and safety of dual versus single antiplatelet therapy for pa- tients taking oral anticoagulation （OAC） after coronary intervention. Background The optimal regimen remains controversial for patients taking OAC after coronary intervention. Methods PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for eligible studies including data of triple therapy （TT） versus OAC plus single antiplatelet therapy for patients requiring OAC after coronary intervention. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular event （MACCE）. The safety outcome was major bleeding. Results Fourteen studies with 32,825 patients were included. Among prospective studies, patients with TT had a trend toward a higher risk of major bleeding [odds ratios （OR）： 1.56, 95% confidence interval （CI）： 0.98-2.49, P = 0.06] and a markedly higher risk of all-cause death （OR; 2.11, 95% CI： 1.10-4.06 P = 0.02） compared with OAC plus clopidogrel. Meanwhile, TT was associated with decreased risks of MACCE （OR： 0.63, 95% CI： 051-0.77 P 〈 0.0001）, all-cause death （OR： 0.45, 95% CI： 0.20-0.97, P = 0.04）, and stroke/transient ischemic attack （TIA）/peripheral embolism （PE）（OR= 0.29, 95% CI： 0.09~3.96, P = 0.04） compared with OAC plus aspirin. Conclusions For pa- tients requiring OAC after coronary intervention, OAC plus clopidogrel may bring more clinical net benefit than TT, whereas OAC plus aspirin should be the last choice. More large-size randomized control trials are needed to confirm these findings.
