An improved phase averaging method based on cross-correlation of the instantaneous velocity field determined by TR-PIV measurements is proposed in this article. A Time-Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry （TR-PIV） is used to measure the two-dimensional wake behind the square cylinder. The phase signals associated with the deterministic appearance of the Karman vortex street are obtained by calculating the correlation matrix of the low-pass filtered velocity field, and can provide the complete information of the phase-averaged wake flow. The results show the advantages of the enhanced methodology in extracting the quasi-periodic flow patterns related to the shedding coherent structures without using additional reference signals.

Jatropha curcas is an important economic plant for biodiesel, which is extracted mainly from the endosperm of its mature seeds. Despite the morphological and functional differences between the embryo and endosperm, proteomic characteristics of the two tissues are not yet known. Similar proteomic profiles were observed in the two-dimensional gel electrophoresis maps from the two tissues. There were 380 and 533 major protein spots in the embryo and endosperm, respectively. Fourteen identical spots, showing a notable change, were selected and identified by tandem mass spectrometry. Among these proteins, dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase （spot 27） participates in tricarboxylic acid cycle, which is an amphibolic pathway. The two parts both included proteins related to stress （spots 8, 115, 118, 125, 130） and signal transduction （spots 7, 100, 108）. According to the volume percentage of proteins in embryo and endosperm, the proteins in endosperm （spots 54, 61, 73） were catabolism-related enzymes and reserves to provide the nutrition for seed germination; the proteins in embryo （spots 27, 62, 122） were inclined to anabolism and utilized the nutrition from the endosperm to generate a new life.

Turbulent flows past hill and curved ducts exist in many engineering applications. Simulations of the turbulent flow arc carried out based on a newly developed technique, the Partially-Averaged Navier-Stokes （PANS） model, including separation, recirculation, reattachment, turbulent vortex mechanism. The focus is on how to accurately predict typical separating, reattaching and secondary motion at a reasonable computational expense. The effect of the parameter, the unresolved-to-total ratio of kinetic energy （ fk ）, is examined with a given unresolved-to-total ratio of dissipation （ fE ） for the hill flow with a much coarser grid system than required by the LES. An optimal value of fk can be obtained to predict the separation and reattachment locations and for more accurate simulation of the resolved turbulence. In addition, the turbulent secondary motions are captured by a smaller fi as compared with the RANS method with the same grid.

Morphological transformation of elongated MnS inclusions in non-quenched and tempered steel during isothermal heating

Elongated MnS inclusions in rolled non-quenched and tempered steel tend to cause the mechanical anisotropy of steel,deteriorate the mechanical properties and degrade the quality and service life of the steel *** reveal the mechanisms of morphological transformation of strip-shaped MnS inclusions during isothermal heating,the effects of heat treatment time and temperature on the morphology,number density and size distribution of elongated MnS inclusions were systematically studied and discussed.A diffusion couple experiment was also conducted to clarify the diffusion mode of MnS *** experimental results showed that with the increase in isothermal heating time(from 0 to 10 h at 1473 K)and temperature(from 1173 to 1573 K for 3.0 h),the number density and average aspect ratio of MnS inclusions generally showed an increase and decrease trend,respectively,while the area fraction remained stable and only slightly fluctuated around 0.4%.In the diffusion couple,after the isothermal heating at 1473 K for 3.0 h,the elements Mn and S in the steel near the steel-MnS interface were very stable without any concentration *** morphology change sequence of the elongated MnS inclusions in the rolled non-quenched and tempered steel during the isothermal heating was strip→cylinderization→spindle→*** between the diameter of MnS inclusion and the spacing between two MnS inclusions after splitting,and the fitting goodness of different n values under different experimental time and temperature confirmed that the driving force for the transformation of MnS inclusions during the isothermal heating was surface diffusion,instead of volume diffusion.

It showed high selectivity and sensitivity for Hg2＋ in acetonitrile-H20 （1 ：1, V ： V） solution. Dynamic light scatter-ing measurements were conducted to verify that the addition of Hg2 changed the particle size and induced fluorescence quenching.

We used whole-tree agarwood-induction technology to produce agarwood from Aquilaria sinensis trees within 20 months, and evaluated the quality of this agarwood. The results showed its characteristics were similar to those of high-grade wild agarwood in terms of texture, chemical constituents, essential oil content, and ethanol-soluble extract content, with the lattermost quality far surpassing the requirement of traditional Chinese medicine agarwood, as indicated in Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2010. To the best of our knowledge, this is first study to show that high-quality agarwood can be produced in whole A. sinensis trees via a chemically induced technology.

To clarify the deformation behavior of MnS inclusions in a non-quenched and tempered steel at three different positions (edge, 1/2 radius and center) in the cross-section of the billet in the course of hot rolling, isothermal compression experiments were performed under the deformation temperature range from 1073 to 1473 K, the reduction rates from 25% to 75% and the strain rates from 0.01 to 10 s^(−1). The variations of deformability features (i.e., aspect ratios, size distributions, and morphologies) of MnS inclusions with those isothermal compression parameters were revealed. The evaluation of the probable maximum aspect ratio of MnS inclusions at the three different positions in the cross-section of the billet after hot rolling was examined using the statistical analysis of extreme values. Results showed that the number densities of MnS inclusions at three different positions (edge, 1/2 radius and center) in the cross-section of the steel billet only fluctuated slightly when the deformation parameters varied in the isothermal compression, while the average inclusion aspect ratios in all cases generally have a negative correlation with the deformation temperature and positive correlations with the reduction ratio and the strain rate. Statistical analysis reveals that larger inclusions deform more easily during hot rolling. The effect of rolling temperature on the extreme value of the aspect ratio of inclusions is the smallest, while the effects of initial size, reduction ratio and strain rate are more significant.
