Quantitative Separation of Spatiotemporal Patterns and Driving Factors of Carbon Sequestration Benefits in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region

Net ecosystem productivity(NEP)is an important indicator for evaluating carbon sources and sinks in regional ecosystems. Clarifying its spatiotemporal differentiation pattern and driving mechanisms is crucial for precise protection and restoration of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ecosystem. We estimated the net ecosystem productivity(NEP)based on MODIS remote sensing data and explored the spatial and temporal patterns of carbon sequestration benefits and succession patterns in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region from 2002 to 2020 by using Sen’s trend + MK test,Hurst index,and center of gravity shift and quantitatively separated the relative contributions of carbon sequestration benefits driven by human activities and climate change by using bias correlation,complex correlation,and residual analysis. The relative contributions of anthropogenic activities and climate change in driving the spatial and temporal changes in carbon sequestration were quantitatively separated using partial correlation and residual analysis. The results showed that:① NEP in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region showed an increasing trend year by year over the past 20 years,with a growth rate(in terms of C)of 3.066 4 g·(m2·a)-1,and the spatial manifestation was high in the northwest and low in the southeast;the areas with strong carbon sink capacity were mainly concentrated in the periphery of Zhangjiakou City and Chengde City,and those with a strong carbon source effect were distributed in the regions of Tianjin and Handan. More than 80% of the regional carbon sink capacity was on the rise,with 47.45% and 8.29% of the regions showing very significant and significant increases,respectively,especially in Zhangjiakou and Chengde;however,the future growth trend was gradually slowing down. BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has become a growing health concern *** invasion and high tumor burden are key factors limiting the curative effect of selective internal radiation therapy(SIRT).CASE SUMMARY This case study reports a 49-year-old woman who was diagnosed with China Liver Cancer Staging(CNLC)IIIa HCC and>15 cm tumor ***,due to insufficient future liver remnant and vascular invasion,the tumor was unresectable;however,radical hepatectomy was performed after successful conversion therapy with SIRT using yttrium-90(90Y)resin microspheres followed by hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC)with tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI)and anti-programmed death-1(PD-1)*** using 90Y resin microspheres was given by the right hepatic artery and chemoembolization was simultaneously performed in the tumor’s feeding vessels from the right diaphragmatic *** was followed every three weeks with lenvatinib and *** 4 months post-SIRT,the tumor was downstaged to CNLC Ib and the patient successfully underwent *** histopathological examination of the resected specimen showed extensive *** This case study provides evidence for an integrated treatment strategy combining SIRT and HAIC with TKI and anti-PD-1 antibodies for patients with large HCC and microvascular *** confirmatory trials are required in the future.

The reform stems from honesty and determination. Since 2005, organ donation and transplantation in China has undergone thorough reform, which complies with legislation requirements and ethical principles established by the World Health Organization(WHO). Reform in China has demonstrated the unwavering confidence and utmost determination of the Chinese government and the Chinese transplantation community. The year 2015 marked a historic turning point when voluntary donations from Chinese citizens became the sole legitimate source for organ transplantation. Since 2015, China has gradually established and refined the “Chinese Mode” and “China System” for organ donation and transplantation, fulfilling its political pledge of reform, and has garnered international recognition, and fostered a social culture which promotes organ donation. This article reviewed the history of reform on organ donation and transplantation in China, presented a new pattern of establishment of organ donation system in the new era of the country, and the direction of advances in the future.

Experimental Study on Diesel Spray and Flame Asymmetry Characteristics of Dual-Orifice Nozzles for a Medium-Speed Engine

The asymmetry of the multi-orifice spray will cause uneven heat load of the marine diesel engine,thereby affecting its working performance and service ***,an in-depth understanding of the spray and flame characteristics of multi-orifice nozzles will guide the optimization of the nozzle structure,needle design and diesel atomization and combustion *** this reason,four groups of dual-orifice nozzles with different hole diameters(0.1-0.55 mm)and mass flow rates covering the typical marine medium-speed diesel injections are designed and customized,and the constant volume chamber(CVC)with high temperature and pressure is used to simulate the actual in-cylinder working conditions of the diesel engine for the spray visualization *** study the asymmetry of the fuel sprays discharged from a diesel injector,the multi-orifice nozzle is simplified as a dual-orifice nozzle in this *** with X-ray Computed Tomography(CT)imaging technology,the influences of the nozzle internal structure on the spray and flame asymmetry are studied in the constructed supercritical *** is found that the asymmetry of the inlet angle and the equivalent length-diameter ratio is positively correlated with the inconsistency of the dual *** an increase in the injection pressure and nozzle diameter,the asymmetry of the dual spray becomes more pronounced,resulting in greater disparities in the ignition delay times and ignition positions of the two ***,the increase in nozzle diameter also leads to combustion instability,resulting in a flame with a serrated *** the increase of ambient temperature,the proportion of liquid phase in the jet decreases and the relative density of spray front decreases.

Krill oil attenuates obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy in mice

Assessing the ecological effects of the World's Largest Forestry Eco-engineering: Three-North Protective Forest Program within the initially scheduled range from 1978 to 2022

China's Three-North Protective Forest Program(TNP) is the world's most ambitious afforestation project(ongoing from 1978 to 2050), which aims to increase forest coverage through afforestation and reforestation, protect agriculture, reduce soil erosion, and control desertification. Although TNP has been ongoing for 45 years, its rationales and effects remain uncertain. Here, we conducted a rangewide assessment of TNP by analyzing data from >10,000 scenes of satellite images and >50,000 field survey plots. The TNP range and definitions of shelterbelts, arboreal forests, and shrublands were changed during the study period, but we used the initial TNP range(4.07 million km2) and the definitions in 1978 for keeping the consistency, comparability, and comprehensiveness. The TNP increased forest coverage from 5.05% in 1978 to 9.69% in 2022, with arboreal forests, shrublands, and shelterbelts increasing by 42.5%, 184.4%,and 53.6%, respectively. However, only 40.1% of the 471,113 km2afforested area was established between 1978 and 2022. The wellestablished shelterbelts improved crop yield by 4.3%-9.5%, but only 10.2% of all the farmlands in TNP regions(TNR) were protected. The total area of soil erosion due to hydraulic forces was reduced by 447,363 km2, with 61% of this reduction attributed to TNP. TNP contributed to the reduction of desertification by 15%, largely due to the low rate of afforestation success and the largely decreased grasslands. The total carbon sequestration from TNP was 1.96 Pg C. Moreover, water storage in TNR showed a decreasing trend, but the contribution rate of TNP was only 7.8%. Our results illustrate that forestry eco-engineering projects are feasible in the management and restoration of arid and semi-arid degraded lands, but attention must be paid to fully considering the ecological carrying capacity of water resources, matching the species to sites, strengthening the post-afforestation management, as well as keeping the balances between composit
