Genomic survey of bZIP transcription factor genes related to tanshinone biosynthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza

Tanshinones are a class of bioactive components in the traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza, and their biosynthesis and regulation have been widely studied. Current studies show that basic leucine zipper(bZIP) proteins regulate plant secondary metabolism, growth and developmental processes. However, the b ZIP transcription factors involved in tanshinone biosynthesis are ***, we conducted the first genome-wide survey of the b ZIP gene family and analyzed the phylogeny,gene structure, additional conserved motifs and alternative splicing events in S. miltiorrhiza. A total of 70 Smb ZIP transcription factors were identified and categorized into 11 subgroups based on their phylogenetic relationships with those in Arabidopsis. Moreover, seventeen Smb ZIP genes underwent alternative splicing events. According to the transcriptomic data, the Smb ZIP genes that were highly expressed in the Danshen root and periderm were selected. Based on the prediction of b ZIP binding sites in the promoters and the co-expression analysis and co-induction patterns in response to Ag^+ treatment via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR), we concluded that Smb ZIP7 and Smb ZIP20 potentially participate in the regulation of tanshinone biosynthesis. These results provide a foundation for further functional characterization of the candidate Smb ZIP genes, which have the potential to increase tanshinone production.

Collective cell migration plays a crucial role in embryonic development, metastasis, and wound healing. Nevertheless, to the best of our knowledge, how the coordination between the cell motility and deformations affects the collective motion of epithelial cells is not fully understood. In this work, we propose a modified self-propelled Voronoi model for epithelial cell migration incorporating the coupling between the self-propulsion of cells and the polarization of the cell elongation. At a high coupling strength,we observe the emergence of backward traveling band structures formed by highly aligned cells, which can be regulated by cell elongations or shape anisotropy. Increasing the cell shape anisotropy, we find that large bands split into multiple small microbands. The latter essentially forms a dynamic zigzag pattern, in which the angle between the polarization direction of the bands and the migration direction switches alternatively between π/4 and-π/4 because the cells are forced to move preferentially in the anterior direction. We also analyzed the disclinations in the cell monolayer, force distribution near the domain boundaries and the shape alignment of the epithelial monolayer during the formation of this dynamic pattern. The present findings may further our understanding of stripe pattern formations in living systems and inspire potential designs for cell sorting.

Multi-objective optimization of a mixed-flow pump impeller using modified NSGA-II algorithm

In order to maintain a uniform distribution of pareto-front solutions, a modified NSGA-II algorithm coupled with a dynamic crowding distance(DCD) method is proposed for the multi-objective optimization of a mixed-flow pump impeller. With the pump meridional section fixed, ten variables along the shroud and hub are selected to control the blade load by using a three-dimensional inverse design method. Hydraulic efficiency, along with impeller head, is applied as an optimization objective; and a radial basis neural network(RBNN) is adopted to approximate the objective function with 82 training samples. Local sensitivity analysis shows that decision variables have different impacts on the optimization objectives. Instead of randomly selecting one solution to implement, a technique for ordering preferences by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS) is introduced to select the best compromise solution(BCS) from pareto-front sets. The proposed method is applied to optimize the baseline model, i.e. a mixed- flow waterjet pump whose specific speed is 508 min?1?m3s?1?m. The performance of the waterjet pump was experimentally tested. Compared with the baseline model, the optimized impeller has a better hydraulic efficiency of 92% as well as a higher impeller head at the design operation point. Furthermore, the off-design performance is improved with a wider highefficiency operation range. After optimization, velocity gradients on the suction surface are smoother and flow separations are eliminated at the blade inlet part. Thus, the authors believe the proposed method is helpful for optimizing the mixed-flow pumps.

Selective laser melting(SLM)technology plays an important role in the preparation of porous titanium(Ti)implants with complex structures and precise ***,the processing characteristics of this technology,which include rapid melting and solidification,lead to products with high residual ***,an in situ method was developed to restrain the residual stress and improve the mechanical strength of porous Ti alloys during laser additive *** brief,porous Ti6Al4V was prepared by an SLM three-dimensional(3D)printer equipped with a double laser system that could rescan each layer immediately after solidification of the molten powder,thus reducing the temperature gradient and avoiding rapid melting and *** indicated that double scanning can provide stronger bonding conditions for the honeycomb structure and improve the yield strength and elastic modulus of the *** with an energy density of 75%resulted in 33.5%–38.0%reductions in residual *** porosities of double-scanned specimens were 2%–4%lower than those of singlescanned specimens,and the differences noted increased with increasing sheet *** rescanning laser power should be reduced during the preparation of porous Ti with thick cell walls to ensure dimensional accuracy.

Bifacial PV modules capture solar radiation from both sides,enhancing power generation by utilizing reflected ***,there are difficulties in obtaining ground albedo data due to its dynamic *** address this issue,this study established an experimental testing system on a rooftop and developed a model to analyze dynamic albedo variations,utilizing specific data from the *** results showed that the all-day dynamic variations in ground albedo ranged from 0.15 to 0.22 with an average of ***,this study evaluates the annual performance of a bifacial PV system in Beijing by considering the experimental conditions,utilizing bifacial modules with a front-side efficiency of 21.23%and a bifaciality factor of 0.8,and analyzing the dynamic all-day albedo data obtained from the numerical *** results indicate that the annual radiation on the rear side of bifacial PV modules is 278.90 kWh/m^(2),which accounts for only 15.50%of the front-side ***,when using the commonly default albedo value of 0.2,the rear-side radiation is 333.01 kWh/m^(2),resulting in an overestimation of 19.40%.Under dynamic albedo conditions,the bifacial system is predicted to generate an annual power output of 412.55 kWh/m^(2),representing a significant increase of approximately 12.37%compared to an idealized monofacial PV system with equivalent front-side *** a 25-year lifespan,the bifacial PV system is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 8393.91 kgCO_(2)/m^(2),providing an additional reduction of 924.31 kgCO_(2)/m^(2)compared to the idealized monofacial PV *** findings offer valuable insights to promote the application of bifacial PV modules.

Herein,the electromagnetic shielding performance of surface concave-convex(SC)and zig-zag micro-arrays was studied by using a simulation prediction and a three-dimensional(3D)printing custom ***,surface stripe concaveconvex(SSC)and surface cylindrical concave-convex(SCC)micro-arrays with or without zig-zag micro-arrays are designed,and their shielding performance is simulated in multi-bands(C-,X-band).The multiwalled carbon nanotubes/polydimethylsiloxane composites(MWCNT/PDMS)with different SC structures and different electrical conductivity are molded in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer(ABS)molds which are printed by a 3D *** results show that the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness(EMI SE)of the samples can be enhanced by constructing the SC micro-arrays with zig-zag micro-arrays,and improving with the increase of conductivity and *** addition,the shielding mechanism of the SC-MWCNT/PDMS composites is investigated and discussed by an electromagnetic simulation.

Parameter Estimation of Weak Signal Based on the Steady Attractor of Duffing Oscillator

Duffing oscillator is one of the classic nonlinear system that can generate chaotic motion. Given the sensitivity to regular signals but immunity to noise of its chaotic attractor, the Duffing oscillator can be used for weak signal detection. Our recent study on other attractors of Duffing oscillator showed that the state transition of its steady attractor not only has the two major advantages of the chaotic attractor, but also has a specific advantage,that is, it has no transitional zone. In the nearby area of the steady attractor, noise may even cause stochastic resonance, which significantly increases the output signalto-noise ratio. For the first time, we present a measure function for the state transition of the steady attractor of Duffing oscillator and then proposed a novel estimation method for weak sinusoidal signal buried in strong *** were conducted to show the efficiency of the proposed method, and results indicate that the proposed method can achieve estimation of amplitude and frequency for sinusoidal signal. Moreover, the proposed method has a higher estimation accuracy and a stronger anti-noise performance than the classical spectrum and maximum likelihood estimation method.
