Multi-Scale Pore Structure Heterogeneity in Tuff Reservoirs Investigated with Multi-Experimental Method and Fractal Dimensions in Chang 7 Formation,Southern Ordos Basin

The tight tuff reservoir is an unusual type of unconventional reservoir with strong ***,there is a lack of research on the microscopic pore structure that causes the heterogeneity of tuff *** the Chang 7 Formation in Ordos Basin,China as a case study,carbon-dioxide gas adsorption,nitrogen gas adsorption and high-pressure mercury injection are integrated to investigate the multi-scale pore structure characteristics of tuff ***,the fractal dimension is introduced to characterize the complexity of pore structure in tuff *** this multi-experimental method,the quantitative characterizations of the full-range pore size distribution of four tuff types were obtained and compared in the size ranges of micropores,mesopores and *** dimension curves derived from full-range pores are divided into six segments as D1.D2,D3,D4,D5 and D6 corresponding to fractal characteristics of micropores,smaller mesopores,larger mesopores,smaller macropores,medium macropores and larger macropores,*** macropore volume,average macropore radius and fractal dimension D5 significantly control petrophysical *** larger macropore volume,average macropore radius and D5 correspond to favorable pore structure and good reservoir quality,which provides new indexes for the tuff reservoir *** study enriches the understanding of the heterogeneity of pore structures and contributes to unconventional oil and gas exploration and development.

Satellite observations of coastal upwelling in the northern Arafura Sea

Coastal upwelling is significant for marine ecosystems by lifting nutrient-rich deep waters into the euphotic zone,thereby increasing primary and secondary *** satellite observations show that the northern Arafura Sea(NAS),especially in the coastal region,features high chlorophyll-a(chl-a)concentrations,implying a strong coastal ***,coastal upwelling in the NAS has not received much *** on a semi-automatic image processing technology,the seasonal and interannual variability of coastal upwelling in the NAS are investigated in this study using satellite-observed sea surface temperature(SST)and wind *** results suggest that there are seasonal coastal upwelling events in the NAS modulated by upwelling-favorable southeast monsoon(SEM).The annual mean days,mean area,and annual mean intensity of coastal upwelling events during the SEM season are 92 days,651. km^(2),and-5.31.1.^(5),respectively,while the corresponding values during the northwest monsoon(NWM)season are 32 days,5569 km^(2),and-1.41.1.^(5).It is also found that the SEM coastal upwelling in the NAS displays prominent interannual *** strong upwelling events are found in 201.,201.,201.,and 201. when the southeast monsoon winds were *** analysis suggests that at the interannual scale,the upwelling index(UI)averaged in the SEM season is negatively correlated with that of three upwelling *** can be attributed to the limitation of onshore geostrophic flow which is evidenced by the negative correlation between the UI and the alongshore difference in sea surface *** study highlights the important role of the southeast monsoon in the temporal variability of coastal upwelling in the NAS.

Transient Damping of Virtual Synchronous Generator for Enhancing Synchronization Stability during Voltage Dips

Virtual synchronous generators(VSGs)are widely introduced to the renewable power generation,the variablespeed pumped storage units,and so on,as a promising gridforming *** is noted that VSGs can provide virtual inertia for frequency support,but the larger inertia would worsen the synchronization stability,referring to keeping synchronization with the grid during voltage ***,this paper presents a transient damping method of VSGs for enhancing the synchronization stability during voltage *** is revealed that the loss of synchronization(LOS)of VSGs always accompanies with the positive frequency deviation and the damping is the key factor to remove LOS when the equilibrium point *** order to enhance synchronization stability during voltage dips,the transient damping is proposed,which is generated by the frequency deviation in active power ***,the proposed method can realize seamless switching between normal state and grid ***,detailed control design for transient damping gain is given to ensure the synchronization stability under different inertia requirements during voltage ***,the experimental results are presented to validate the analysis and the effectiveness of the improved transient damping method.

Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs) have been attracting great attentions and widely been exploited due to the abundant sodium/potassium ***,the preparation of high-powered anode materials for SIBs/PIBs plays a decisive role for the commercial applications of SIBs/PIBs in the *** selenides are a class of potential anode materials for SIBs/PIBs because of their small band gap and high electrical *** this work,MnSe and ReS_(2) core-shell nanowires connecting by polydopamine derived carbon nanotube(MnSe@NC@ReS_(2)) have been successfully synthesized from growing ReS_(2) nanosheets array on the surface of MnSe@NC nano wires,which present excellent Na^(+)/K^(+) storage *** applied as SIBs anode,the specific capacity of 300 mAh·g^(-1. was maintwined after 400 cycles at the current density of 1.0 A·g^(-1..Besides,it could also keep 1.0 mAh·g^(-1. specific capacity after 900 cycles at 1.0 A·g^(-1. for the anode of *** heterogeneous engineering and one-dimensional-two-dimensional(1.-2D) hybrid strategies could provide an ideal strategy for the synthesis of new hetero-structured anode materials with outstanding battery performance for SIBs and PIBs.

Segregation of Mg-6Gd alloy under natural convection:From macro solute distribution to micro dendrite growth

Segregation is a serious defect in alloy ingots which severely deteriorates materials *** segregation defect in Mg-6Gd alloy is studied by coupling macro thermal-solutal-convection transport and micro dendrite *** macroscopic fluid dynamics and mass transfer equations are resolved to forecast the segregation behavior under conditions of continuous temperature variation during the solidification *** numerical model is validated by testing double-diffusive natural convection in a closed square cavity.A phase field model is then applied to simulate the micro dendrite growth,using macro undercooling and liquid flow velocity as boundary *** show that the multiscale segregation behavior,including macro solute distribution and micro dendritic morphology,is strongly dependent on the temperature condition and the liquid convection,which provides guidance for reducing and eliminating the segregation defect.

A multi-mechanism numerical simulation model for CO_(2)-EOR and storage in fractured shale oil reservoirs

Under the policy background and advocacy of carbon capture,utilization,and storage(CCUS),CO_(2)-EOR has become a promising direction in the shale oil reservoir *** multi-scale pore structure distribution and fracture structure lead to complex multiphase flow,comprehensively considering multiple mechanisms is crucial for development and CO_(2) storage in fractured shale *** this paper,a multi-mechanism coupled model is developed by *** to the traditional Eclipse300 and MATLAB Reservoir Simulation Toolbox(MRST),this model considers the impact of pore structure on fluid phase behavior by the modified Peng—Robinson equation of state(PR-EOS),and the effect simultaneously radiate to Maxwell—Stefan(M—S)diffusion,stress sensitivity,the nano-confinement(NC)***,a modified embedded discrete fracture model(EDFM)is used to model the complex fractures,which optimizes connection types and half-transmissibility calculation approaches between non-neighboring connections(NNCs).The full implicit equation adopts the finite volume method(FVM)and Newton—Raphson iteration for discretization and *** model verification with the Eclipse300 and MRST is *** results show that the interaction between the mechanisms significantly affects the production performance and storage *** effect of molecular diffusion may be overestimated in oil-dominated(liquid-dominated)shale *** well spacing and injection gas rate are the most crucial factors affecting the production by sensitivity ***,the potential gas invasion risk is *** model provides a reliable theoretical basis for CO_(2)-EOR and sequestration in shale oil reservoirs.

αDecay in extreme laser fields within a deformed Gamow-like model

In this study, the effect of extreme laser fields on the α decay process of ground-state even–even nuclei was *** the deformed Gamow-like model, we found that state-of-the-art lasers can cause a slight change in the α decay penetration probability of most nuclei. In addition, we studied the correlation between the rate of change of the α decay penetration probability and angle between the directions of the laser electric field and α particle emission for different nuclei. Based on this correlation, the average effect of extreme laser fields on the half-life of many nuclei with arbitrary α particle emission angles was calculated. The calculations show that the laser suppression and promotion effects on the α decay penetration probability of the nuclei population with completely random α particle-emission directions are not completely *** remainder led to a change in the average penetration probability of the nuclei. Furthermore, the possibility of achieving a higher average rate of change by altering the spatial shape of the laser is explored. We conclude that circularly polarized lasers may be helpful in future experiments to achieve a more significant average rate of change of the α decay half-life of the nuclei population.

Formation of free-surface vortex and vortex suppression by rotating stopper-rod at end of tundish casting

A rotating stopper-rod technique was proposed to suppress the formation of free-surface vortex in the *** large eddy simulation model coupled with volume of fluid model was developed to study the steel–slag–gas three-phase flow *** critical slag entrapment height of the free-surface vortex and mass of residual steel were predicted at different rotating speeds(30,60,90 and 1.0 r/min)of the rotating *** numerical model was verified by water model *** results showed that by rotating the stopper-rod in the opposite direction of the vortex above the submerged entry nozzle,the formation of vortex can be effectively disturbed and the critical height of the free-surface vortex can be *** for the 2nd strand,when the rotating speeds are 30,60,90 and 1.0 r/min,the critical height of the free-surface vortex above the 2nd strand is 7.3,4.7,6.3 and 7.4 cm,respectively.A reasonable rotating speed should be 60 r/min,which can reduce about 2 tons of residual *** rotating speeds just can reduce about 1.6 tons of residual steel.
