BACKGROUND Although an association between gut microbiota and cholestatic liver disease(CLD)has been reported,the precise functional roles of these microbes in CLD pathogenesis remain largely *** To explore the function of gut microbes in CLD pathogenesis and the effects of gut microbiota on intestinal barrier and bile acid(BA)metabolism in *** Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a 0.05%3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydrocollidine diet for 2 weeks to induce *** sterile liver tissues of mice were then meticulously harvested,and bacteria in homogenates were identified through culture ***,16S ribosomal DNA sequencing was employed to analyze sterile liver samples collected from eight patients with primary biliary cholangitis(PBC)and three control individuals with hepatic *** functional roles of the identified bacteria in CLD pathogenesis were assessed through microbiota transfer experiments,involving the evaluation of changes in intestinal permeability and BA *** Ligilactobacillus murinus(***)and Lactococcus garvieae(***)were isolated from the bacterial culture of livers from CLD *** was prevalently detected in PBC patients and controls,whereas *** was detected only in patients with PBC but not in *** inoculated with *** exhibited increased susceptibility to experimental CLD,with both in vitro and in vivo indicating that *** disrupted the intestinal barrier function by down-regulating the expression of occludin and zonula ***,*** administration significantly upregulated the expression of the apical sodium-dependent BA transporter in the terminal ileum and increased serum BA *** *** contributes to excessive BA-induced hepatobiliary injury and liver fibrosis by increasing intestinal permeability and enhancing BA reabsorption.

On Closed Six-Manifolds Admitting Riemannian Metrics with Positive Sectional Curvature and Non-Abelian Symmetry

We study the topology of closed,simply-connected,6-dimensional Riemannian manifolds of positive sectional curvature which admit isometric actions by SU(2)or SO(3).We show that their Euler characteristic agrees with that of the known examples,i.e.,S^(6),CP^(3),the Wallach space SU(3)/T^(2)and the biquotient SU(3)/T^(2).We also classify,up to equivariant diffeomorphism,certain actions without exceptional orbits and show that there are strong restrictions on the exceptional strata.

The presence of particles and the shock waves generated by the cavitation bubbles can significantly affect the safety and the performance of hydrodynamic *** the present paper,the shock waves generated by cavitation bubble collapsing near the particle are numerically investigated based on the OpenFOAM together with the numerical schlieren for the shock wave *** numerical results reveal that the stand-off distance is one of the paramount factors affecting the interactions between the particle and the shock *** different kinds of shock waves(e.g.,bubble-inception,jet formation,particle reflected and jet-split shock waves)are observed during the bubble collapsing near the *** stand-off distance smaller than 0.5 or larger than 1.1,the maximum pressure at particle surface generated by the bubble growth can surpass those of the collapse stage.

Preparation and Properties of Ultrathin Flexible Expanded Graphite Film via Adding Natural Rubber

Expanded graphite(EG) films exhibit potential use in a wide field including thermal management, conductive applications,and electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding. However, their poor tensile strength and brittleness are crucial deficiencies for commercial applications. To address these defects, in our work, natural rubber(NR) is employed to improve EG films for better mechanical strength and flexibility. The origin of the strengthening effect of EG films by the addition of natural rubber mainly arises from the formation of a simulate shell structure. Compared to the neat EG films, the addition of merely 2 wt% NR can give rise to superior ductility. Further, the loading of 10 wt% NR realizes a significant mechanical enhancement of the EG/NR films, i.e., 2.4 and 11.4 times increase in tensile strength and elongation at break, respectively. Besides, EG/NR films containing 10 wt% NR can still sustain excellent thermal and electric conductivities of 173 W·m^-1·K^-1 and 75 S·cm^-1, respectively. Furthermore, a very high EMI of 41.4 dB is achieved as the film thickness reaches 50 μm. Thus, the lightweight EG/NR films with comprehensive performance as well as their virtue of green and simple large-scale preparation endow them with the possibility of designing next-generation flexible electronics.

IMPULP:A Hardware Approach for In-Process Memory Protection via User-Level Partitioning

In recent years many security attacks occur when malicious codes abuse in-process memory *** to the increasing complexity,an application program may call third-party code which cannot be controlled by programmers but may contain security *** a result,the users have the risk of suffering information leakage and control flow ***,current solutions like Intel memory protection extensions(MPX)severely degrade performance,while other approaches like Intel memory protection keys(MPK)lack flexibility in dividing security *** this paper,we propose IMPULP,an effective and efficient hardware approach for in-process memory *** rationale of IMPULP is user-level partitioning that user code segments are divided into different security domains according to their instruction addresses,and accessible memory spaces are specified dynamically for each domain via a set of boundary *** instruction related to memory access will be checked according to its security domain and the corresponding boundaries,and illegal in-process memory access of untrusted code segments will be *** can be leveraged to prevent a wide range of in-process memory abuse attacks,such as buffer overflows and memory *** verification,an FPGA prototype based on RISC-V instruction set architecture has been *** present eight tests to verify the effectiveness of IMPULP,including five memory protection function tests,a test to defense typical buffer overflow,a test to defense famous memory leakage attack named Heartbleed,and a test for security *** execute the SPEC CPU2006 benchmark programs to evaluate the efficiency of *** performance overhead of IMPULP is less than 0.2%runtime on average,which is ***,the resource overhead is less than 5.5%for hardware modification of IMPULP.

Periprostatic fat thickness measured on MRI correlates with lower urinary tract symptoms,erectile function,and benign prostatic hyperplasia progression

This study investigated the correlation between periprostatic fat thickness(PPFT)measured on magnetic resonance imaging and lower urinary tract symptoms,erectile function,and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)progression.A total of 286 treatment-naive men diagnosed with BPH in our department between March 2017 and February 2019 were *** were divided into two groups according to the median value of PPFT:high(PPFT>4.35 mm)PPFT group and low(PPFT<4.35 mm)PPFT *** the initial evaluation,all patients received a combination drug treatment of tamsulosin and finasteride for 12 *** the 286 enrolled patients,244 completed the drug treatment *** with high PPFT had larger prostate volume(PV;P=0.013),higher International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS;P-0.008),and lower five-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5)score(P=0.002)than those with low *** high and low PPFT groups showed significant improvements in PV,maximum flow rate,IPSS,and quality of life score and a decrease of IIEF-5 score after the combination drug *** decrease of IIEF-5 score was more obvious in the high PPFT group than that in the low PPFT *** addition,more patients in the high PPFT group underwent prostate surgery than those in the low PPFT ***,Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis indicated that PPFT was positively correlated with age,PV,and IPSS and negatively correlated with IIEF-5 score;however,body mass index was only negatively correlated with IIEF-5 score.

Multi-modal imaging is essential for advancing our understanding of brain function and unraveling pathophysiological processes underlying neurological and psychiatric *** resonance(MR)and optoacoustic(OA)imaging have been shown to provide highly complementary contrasts and capabilities for preclinical *** integration between these modalities can thus offer unprecedented capabilities for studying the rodent brain in *** report on a hybrid magnetic resonance and optoacoustic tomography(MROT)system for concurrent noninvasive structural and functional imaging of the mouse *** OA tomography was designed as an insert into a high-field MR scanner by integrating a customized MR-compatible spherical transducer array,an illumination module,and a dedicated radiofrequency coil.A tailored data processing pipeline has been developed to mitigate signal crosstalk and accurately register image volumes acquired with T1-weighted,angiography,and blood oxygenation level-dependent(BOLD)sequences onto the corresponding vascular and oxygenation data recorded with the OA *** demonstrate the concurrent acquisition of dual-mode anatomical and angiographic brain images with the scanner,as well as real-time functional readings of multiple hemodynamic parameters from animals subjected to oxygenation *** approach combines the functional and molecular imaging advantages of OA with the superb soft-tissue contrast of MR,further providing an excellent platform for cross-validation of functional readings by the two modalities.

Assessment of internal exposure risk from metals pollution of occupational and non-occupational populations around a non-ferrous metal smelting plant

Non-ferrous metal smelting poses significant risks to public ***,the copper smelting process releases arsenic,a semi-volatile metalloid,which poses an emerging exposure risk to both workers and nearby *** comprehensively understand the internal exposure risks of metal(loid)s from copper smelting,we explored eighteen metal(loid)s and arsenic metabolites in the urine of both occupational and non-occupational populations using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry with high-performance liquid chromatography and compared their health *** showed that zinc and copper(485.38 and 14.00μg/L),and arsenic,lead,cadmium,vanadium,tin and antimony(46.80,6.82,2.17,0.40,0.44 and 0.23μg/L,respectively)in workers(n=179)were significantly higher compared to controls(n=168),while Zinc,tin and antimony(412.10,0.51 and 0.15μg/L,respectively)of residents were significantly higher than ***,workers had a higher monomethyl arsenic percentage(MMA%),showing lower arsenic methylation *** appointment analysis identified arsenic,lead,cadmium,antimony,tin and thallium as co-exposure metal(loid)s from copper smelting,positively relating to the age of *** hazard index(HI)of workers exceeded 1.0,while residents and control were approximately at ***,all three populations had accumulated cancer risks exceeding 1.0×10^(-4),and arsenite(AsIII)was the main contributor to the variation of workers and ***,residents living closer to the smelting plant had higher health *** study reveals arsenic exposure metabolites and multiple metals as emerging contaminants for copper smelting exposure populations,providing valuable insights for pollution control in non-ferrous metal smelting.
