High-Resolution Hindcast of Record-Breaking Rainfall in Beijing and Impact of Topography

In this paper,a hindcast study of the record-breaking rainfall event occurring in Beijing on 21July 2012,is conducted by using the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model forced by National centers for environmental Prediction(NcEP)Global Forecasting System(GFS)outputs,paired with an investigation of the impact of topography in this *** results indicate that WRF can reasonably predict the salient features of orographic precipitation;the 24-h rainfall amount and spatial distribution compare reasonably well with the *** hindcast simulation also indicates that rainfall events can be predicted approximately 36 h *** the topography is removed,the spatial distribution of rainfall changes remarkably,suggesting the importance of the topography in determining rainfall *** results also indicate that prediction of such city-scale heavy rainfall events would benefit from a high-resolution prediction system.

Asymmetric interfacial engineering regulated charge distribution on Ru/Ni-N-c sites for effic.ent hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline and seawater electrolytes

Developing highly effic.ent and cost-effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction（HER） is grandly challenging in alkaline and alkaline seawater electrolytes. Herein, the asymmetric interfacial active sites with Ru nanoparticles and Ni single atoms in Ru/Ni-N-c were designed through a solvothermal-pyrolysis process. constructing highly asymmetric interfacial active sites with a strong electron delocalization effect significantly improves HER kinetics. As expected, Ru/Ni-N-c requires low overpotentials with around 20 mV at 10 mA cm-2and robust durability over 48 h in alkaline and alkaline seawater *** at 200 mA cm-2, the overpotentials are close to 100 mV in both above electrolytes for Ru/Ni-N-c. Density function theory calculation results suggest that the asymmetric interface between Ru nanoparticle and Ni-N-c could accelerate the dissociation of water molecules and modulate the hydrogen species, consequently improving the HER performances. This work opens a unique approach for constructing advanced materials for energy conversion.

Thermally triggered topological polymerization in diacetylene-functionalized covalent organic framework toward enhanced memristive properties

The development of stimuli-responsive switching memory devices and the elucidation of their switching mechanisms in specific.environments are crucial for advancing the field of molecular electronics. Herein, we propose two distinct two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (cOFs), namely Py-EDA and Py-BDA, incorporating acetylene (-c≡c-) or diacetylene(-c≡c-c≡c-) moieties, respectively, targeting fabricate memory devices exhibiting stimuli-responsive switching *** findings demonstrate that the incorporation of acetylene units effectively modulates the electronic band structure and enhances the degree ofπ-conjugation, resulting in devices that exhibit typical bipolar nonvolatile memory performance. Notably,upon thermal treatment, the memory behavior of the ITO/Py-BDA/Ag device transitions to a write-once-read-many-times(WORM) mode, displaying decreased SET voltage, increased ON/OFF current ratio, and remarkable retention reliability and cycle stability. This switching behavior is attributed to the occurrence of interlayer solid-state topological polymerization at 350℃, leading to the transformation of diacetylene columnar arrays into enyne chains within Py-BDA, thereby further promoting interlayer charge transfer and separation.

An oxygen reduction sensor based on a novel type of porous carbon composite membrane electrode

The development of a simple, effic.ent and sensitive sensor for dissolved oxygen is proposed using a novel type of porous carbon composite membrane/glassy carbon electrode based on the low-cost common filter paper by a simple method. The resulting device exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activities toward the oxygen reduction reaction. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements demonstrated that the porous morphology and uniformly dispersed Fe;c nanoparticles of the PccM play an important role in the oxygen reduction reaction. A linear response range from 2mmol/L up to 110 mmol/L and a detection limit of 1.4 mmol/L was obtained with this sensor. The repeatability of the proposed sensor,evaluated in terms of relative standard deviation, was 3.0%. The successful fabrication of PccM/Gc electrode may promote the development of new porous carbon oxygen reduction reaction material for the oxygen reduction sensor.

The uniform settle caused by the permafrost creep is still the primary problem of engineering construction in cold *** investigate the creep characteristics of frozen soils mixed with silty clay and coarse-grained sand,several triaxial creep tests of frozen mixed soils under different conditions(temperature,confining pressure,coarse-grained particle content) were performed,and the effects of the temperature,confining pressure and coarse particle content on the creep characteristics of frozen mixed soils were also *** results of the experiments indicated that when the confining pressure was low,the specimen exhibited an attenuation creep under a low-stress level(0.4-0.7) and a non-attenuation creep under a high-stress level(0.7-0.9).In contrast,when the confining pressure was high,the specimen had both initial and stable creep stages,but no the accelerated creep *** higher the content of coarse grains,the shorter the stable creep stage,and the easier to enter the accelerated creep stage for the ***,the long-term strength of frozen soils decreased with an increase in the content of coarse ***,a newly improved Nishihara model was proposed to consider both the hardening effect and damage effect by introducing both the hardening and damage variables,which can model the entire creep process of frozen soils modeled relatively *** was found that with the increasing content of coarse particle,both the strengthening and damaged effects in the creep process are reduced。

Factors influencing willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical trials and strategies for effective recruitment

AIM:To explore the factors influencing individuals’willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical ***:A questionnaire survey was conducted from January to April 2021 among patients and their family members at Zhongshan Ophthalmic center,Sun Yat-sen University,in Guangzhou,*** survey gathered data on respondents’willingness,demographic and socioeconomic profiles,as well as their reasons and concerns regarding engagement in clinical ***:Of the 1078 residents surveyed(mean age 31.2±13.1y;65.8%females)in Guangzhou,749(69.5%)expressed a willingness to participate in future ophthalmic clinical *** characteristics associated with greater willingness included a younger age,lower annual income,higher education,prior participation experience,previous ophthalmic treatment,and a better understanding of clinical *** the exception of age,these characteristics were significantly linked to a higher *** primary barrier to participation,expressed by 64.8%of those willing and 54.4%of those unwilling,was“Uncertain efficacy”.In terms of motivations,the willing group ranked“Better therapeutic benefits”(35.0%),“Professional monitoring”(34.3%),and“Trust in healthcare professionals”(33.1%)as their top three reasons,whereas the unwilling participants indicated“Full comprehension of the protocol”(46.2%)as the key ***:This study reveals a substantial willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical trials and demonstrates the predictive role of demographic and socioeconomic *** in motivators and concerns between willing and unwilling participants highlight the significance of tailored recruitment ***,the need for and trust in healthcare professionals stand out as powerful motivations,underscoring the importance of enhancing physician-patient relationships,adopting patient-centered communication approaches,and addressing individualized needs to improve accrual rates.
