Laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection versus open retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testicular cancer:A comparison of clinical and perioperative outcomes

Objective:This study was performed to evaluate the clinical and perioperative outcomes of laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection(L-RPLND)and open retroperitoneal lymph node dissection(O-RPLND)performed by one surgeon at a single ***:We evaluated 30 patients with stage IIA germ cell tumors who underwent retroperitoneal lymph node dissection(15 underwent L-RPLND and 15 underwent O-RPLND)at our institution between April 1,2010 and March 31,*** clinical parameters were compared between patients who underwent L-RPLND using the retroperitoneal approach and those who underwent O-RPLND using the transperitoneal *** were no significant differences in the background characteristics of the two groups except for the median follow-up duration(46 months for L-RPLND and 71 months for O-RPLND,p=0.02).Results:L-RPLND was associated with a shorter mean operative time(mean 222 min for L-RPLND vs.453 min for O-RPLND,p<0.001).There was significantly less blood loss during surgery in the L-RPLND group compared to the O-RPLND group(mean 165 mL for L-RPLND vs.403 mL for O-RPLND,p<0.001).Parameters related to postoperative recovery were significantly better for the L-RPLND group than for the O-RPLND *** were no differences in the histopathological characteristics between the two *** patients in either group exhibited disease ***:Patients who underwent L-RPLND had more rapid recovery,and shorter hospital stay compared to those who underwent O-RPLND;complications were comparable between the two groups.L-RPLND is an efficient procedure with the benefits of minimally invasive surgery.

Influence of chirality on the cyclohexene-fused C_(60) fullerene derivatives as an accepter partner in a photovoltaic cell

Organic photovoltaic devices(OPVs) using chiral cyclohexene-fused [C_(60)]-fullerene derivatives that have(l)-menthyl ester moiety have been prepared and their properties evaluated as acceptor molecules with P3 HT polymer: racemic cyclohexene-fused [C_(60)] fullenene,(RS)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a showed higher PCE(2.81%) than that of standard [C_(60)]-PCBM(2.64%) under the same analysis conditions. On the contrary, devices using chiral(R)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a and(S)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a, showed PCE as 1.08% and 1.10%, respectively. The main origin of the differences in PCE was found to be their poor Jsc values. The results indicate that the aggregation state might influence the interaction state with P3 HT and impact the results of the OPV properties, Jsc values in particular.

Dislocation-mediated plasticity in inorganic semiconductors and oxides has attracted increasing research interest because of the promising mechanical and functional properties tuned by *** this study,we investigated the effects of light illumination on the dislocation-mediated plasticity in hexagonal wurtzite ZnO,a representative third-generation semiconductor material.A(0001)45o off sample was specially designed to preferentially activate the basal slip on(0001)*** types of nanoindentation tests were performed under four different light conditions(550 nm,334 nm,405 nm,and darkness),including low-load(60μN)pop-in tests,high-load(500μN)nanoindentation tests,and nanoindentation creep *** maximum shear stresses at pop-in were found to approximate the theoretical shear strength regardless of the light *** activation volume at pop-ins was calculated to be larger in light than in ***-sectional transmission electron microscope images taken from beneath the indentation imprints showed that all indentation-induced dislocations were located beneath the indentation imprint in a thin-plate shape along one basal slip *** indentation-induced dislocations could spread much deeper in darkness than in light,revealing the suppressive effect of light on dislocation *** analytical model was adopted to estimate the elastoplastic stress field beneath the *** was found that dislocation glide ceased at a higher stress level in light,indicating the increase in the Peierls barrier under light ***,nanoindentation creep tests showed the suppression of both indentation depth and creep rate by *** creep also yielded a larger activation volume in light than in darkness.

A quantum chemistry study of the first singlet(S_(1))and triplet(T_(1))excited states of phenylsulfonyl-carbazole compounds,proposed as useful thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)emitters for organic light emitting diode(OLED)applications,was performed with the quantum Equation-Of-Motion Variational Quantum Eigensolver(qEOM-VQE)and Variational Quantum Deflation(VQD)algorithms on quantum simulators and *** quantum simulations were performed with double zeta quality basis sets on an active space comprising the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals(HOMO,LUMO)of the TADF *** differences in energy separations between S_(1) and T_(1)(ΔEST)predicted by calculations on quantum simulators were found to be in excellent agreement with experimental *** of 17 and 88 mHa with respect to exact energies were found for excited states by using the qEOM-VQE and VQD algorithms,respectively,to perform simulations on quantum devices without error *** utilizing state tomography to purify the quantum states and correct energy values,the large errors found for unmitigated results could be improved to differences of,at most,4 mHa with respect to exact ***,excellent agreement could be found between values ofΔEST predicted by quantum simulations and those found in experiments.

Molecular Genetic Variation in a Clonal Plant Population of Leymus chinensis （Trin.） Tzvel.

Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA （RAPD） analysis was used to investigate the genetic variation among populations, between populations, and within populations, relationships between genetic distance and geographic distance, and the molecular variation and population size. The effects of geographic and genetic distances, as well as of genetic differentiation and population size, on genetic variations of Leymus chinensis （Trin.） Tzvel. are discussed. The present study showed that there was significant RAPD variation between the Baicheng region population and the Daqing region population, with a molecular variance of 6.35% （P 〈 0.04）, and for differentiation among area populations of the Daqing region, with a molecular variance of 8.78% （P 〈 0.002）. A 21.06% RAPD variation among all 16 populations among two regions was found （P 〈 0.001）, as well as 72.59% variation within populations （P 〈 0.001）. Molecular variation within populations was significantly different among 16 populations.

The pedestrian-induced lateral vibration of footbridges is essentially classified as a nonlinear stochastic ***,bridge vibration stability falls within the field of nonlinear stochastic vibration *** present,the Lyapunov method is mainly used to analyze such ***,this method is qualitative,and it cannot quantitatively analyze the vibration stability *** this study,a new analytical method based on a comparison of the input energy and the variation of intrinsic energy(IEVIE)is used to analyze the nonlinear stochastic vibration stability of the lateral vibration of the *** improved nakamura model is used to describe the lateral nonlinear stochastic vibration of the footbridge.A combination of the IEVIE method and the probability density evolution(PDE)method is then proposed,in which the IEVIE method is utilized to determine vibration *** PDE method is used to obtain the reliability of vibration *** proposed method is successfully applied to the Millennium Bridge,and its effectiveness is verified by comparing the Monte Carlo and Lyapunov *** proposed method can obtain the dynamic probability of the vibration as stable or instable and provide a reference for quantitative analysis of lateral nonlinear stochastic vibration stability of footbridges.

Automatic Sleep Spindle Detection with EEG Based on Complex Demodulation Method and Decision Tree Model

Sleep spindle is the characteristic waveform of electroencephalogram (EEG) which is important for clinical diagnosis. In this study, an automatic sleep spindle detection method was developed. The EEG signals were recorded based on the standard polysomnogram (PSG) measurement. A preprocessing procedure is introduced to exclude the unnecessary data segments and normalized the necessary data segments. Complex demodulation method is adopted to detect the candidate sleep spindle waveforms and calculate the features. The sleep spindles are recognized based on a decision tree model. Finally, the detected sleep spindles were utilized to amend the sleep stage recognition results. The sleep EEG data from 3 patients with sleep disorders were analyzed. The obtained results showed that the detected sleep spindles in EEG signal improved the accuracy of sleep stage recognition.

High-speed measurement confronts the extreme speed limit when the signal becomes comparable to the noise *** the context of broadband mid-infrared spectroscopy,state-of-the-art ultrafast Fourier-transform infrared spectrometers,in particular dual-comb spectrometers,have improved the measurement rate up to a few MSpectra s^(-1),which is limited by the signal-to-noise ***-stretch infrared spectroscopy,an emerging ultrafast frequency-swept mid-infrared spectroscopy technique,has shown a record-high rate of 80 MSpectra s^(-1) with an intrinsically higher signal-to-noise ratio than Fourier-transform spectroscopy by more than the square-root of the number of spectral ***,it can measure no more than~30 spectral elements with a low resolution of several ***,we significantly increase the measurable number of spectral elements to more than 1000 by incorporating a nonlinear upconversion *** one-to-one mapping of a broadband spectrum from the mid-infrared to the near-infrared telecommunication region enables low-loss time-stretching with a single-mode optical fiber and low-noise signal detection with a high-bandwidth *** demonstrate high-resolution mid-infrared spectroscopy of gas-phase methane molecules with a high resolution of 0.017 cm^(-1).This unprecedentedly high-speed vibrational spectroscopy technique would satisfy various unmet needs in experimental molecular science,e.g.,measuring ultrafast dynamics of rreversible phenomena,statistically analyzing a large amount of heterogeneous spectral data,or taking broadband hyperspectral images at a high frame rate.

STAT3 deficiency prevents hepatocarcinogenesis and promotes biliary proliferation in thioacetamide-induced liver injury

AIM To elucidate the role of STAT3 in hepatocarcinogenesis and biliary ductular proliferation following chronic liver injury. METHODS We investigated thioacetamide(TAA)-induced liver injury, compensatory hepatocyte proliferation, and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) development in hepatic STAT3-deficient mice. In addition, we evaluated TAAinduced biliary ductular proliferation and analyzed the activation of sex determining region Y-box9(SOX9) and Yes-associated protein(YAP), which regulate the transdifferentiation of hepatocytes to *** Both compensatory hepatocyte proliferation and HCC formation were significantly decreased in hepatic STAT3-deficient mice as compared with control mice. STAT3 deficiency resulted in augmentation of hepatic necrosis and fibrosis. On the other hand, biliary ductular proliferation increased in hepatic STAT3-deficient livers as compared with control livers. SOX9 and YAP were upregulated in hepatic STAT3-deficient *** STAT3 may regulate hepatocyte proliferation as well as transdifferentiation into cholangiocytes and serve as a therapeutic target for HCC inhibition and biliary regeneration.
