In order to promote our understanding on electronic structure of actinide dioxides, we construct a tight-binding model composed of actinide 5f and oxygen 2p electrons, which is called f-p model. After the diagonalization of the f-p model, we compare the eigen-energies in the first Brillouin zone with the results of relativistic band-structure calculations. Here we emphasize a key role of f-p hybridization in order to understand the electronic structure of actinide dioxides. In particular, it is found that the position of energy levels of Г7 and Г8 states determined from crystalline electric field (CEF) potentials depends on the f-p hybridization. We investiagte the values of the Slater-Koster integrals for f-p hybridization, (fpσ) and (fpπ), which reproduce simultaneously the local CEF states and the band-structure calculation results. Then, we find that the absolute value of (fpπ) should be small in comparison with (fpσ) = 1 eV. The small value of |(fpπ)| is consistent with the condition to obtain the octupole ordering in the previous analysis of the f-p model.

Objective: To assess the influence of previous abdominal and pelvic surgeries on uterine artery embolization (UAE). We hypothesize that the formation of postoperative adhesions can impose technical difficulties for UAE, resulting in longer fluoroscopy time and less reduction of uterus and largest tumor volumes after the procedure. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 122 consecutive patients who underwent uterine artery embolization for the treatment of uterine fibroids in our department. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of previous abdominal or pelvic surgery. Fluoroscopy time, change in symptoms, and volume variation of uterus and largest tumor were compared between groups. Results: Forty-seven patients underwent abdominopelvic surgery before UAE (Group 1) and 75 did not (Group 2). Median (IQR) fluoroscopy time was 22 minutes (IQR: 18 - 26.4) for Group 1, and 23.3 minutes (IQR: 19.05 - 28.25) for Group 2. No difference was found between the groups (P = 0.17). Regarding the results after UAE, neither the change in symptoms (P = 0.30) nor the volume variation for uterus (P = 0.41) and largest fibroid (P = 0.18) showed significant difference. Conclusions: In this study, previous abdominopelvic surgeries had no significant influence on fluoroscopy time, and overall outcomes of uterine artery embolization.

Insertion mutations that disrupt the function of PHT4;6 （At5g44370） cause NaCI hypersensitivity of Arabidopsis seedlings that is characterized by reduced growth of the primary root, enhanced lateral branching, and swelling of root tips. Mutant phenotypes were exacerbated by sucrose, but not by equiosmolar concentrations of mannitol, and attenuated by low inorganic phosphate in the medium. Protein PHT4;6 belongs to the Major Facilitator Superfamily of permeases that shares significant sequence similarity to mammalian type-I Pi transporters and vesicular glutamate transporters, and is a member of the PHT4 family of putative intracellular phosphate transporters of plants. PHT4;6 localizes to the Golgi membrane and transport studies indicate that PHT4;6 facilitates the selective transport of Pi but not of chloride or inorganic anions. Phenotypic similarities with other mutants displaying root swelling suggest that PHT4;6 likely functions in protein N-glycosylation and cell wall biosynthesis, which are essential for salt tolerance. Together, our results indicate that PHT4;6 transports Pi out of the Golgi lumenal space for the re-cycling of the Pi released from glycosylation processes.

Combinations of DNA and recombinant-viral-vector based vaccines are promising AIDS vaccine methods because of their potential for inducing cellular immune responses. It was found that Gag-specific cytotoxic lymphocyte (CTL) responses were associated with lowering viremia in an untreated HIV-1 infected cohort. The main objectives of our studies were the construction of DNA and recombinant Sendai virus vector (rSeV) vaccines containing a gag gene from the prevalent Thailand subtype B strain in China and trying to use these vaccines for therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines. The candidate plasmid DNA vaccine pcDNA3.1(+)-gag and recombinant Sendai virus vaccine (rSeV-gag) were constructed separately. It was verified by Western blotting analysis that both DNA and rSeV-gag vaccines expressed the HIV-1 Gag protein correctly and efficiently. Balb/c mice were immunized with these two vaccines in different administration schemes. HIV-1 Gag-specific CTL responses and antibody levels were detected by intracellular cytokine staining assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) respectively. Combined vaccines in a DNA prime/rSeV-gag boost vaccination regimen induced the strongest and most long-lasting Gag-specific CTL and antibody responses. It maintained relatively high levels even 9 weeks post immunization. This data indicated that the prime-boost regimen with DNA and rSeV-gag vaccines may offer promising HIV vaccine regimens.

Complications of CAD/CAM Fabricated Surgical Template for Static Computer-Aided Implant Surgery

Purpose: Surgical templates produced by digital simulation and CAD/CAM allow for three-dimensional control of implant placement. However, due to clinical limitations, there are complications during the use of the template. The purpose of this study was to summarize the complications associated with the use of surgical templates for static computer-aided implant surgery. Methods: Complications were collected during the observation period, and then their implant sites were reanalyzed with simulation software. Results: There were 104 cases during the observation period, 5 cases had complications. Mechanical complications were observed in four cases, including three cases in which the frame of the template fractured during implant placement surgery and one case in which the sleeve fell off the surgical template. In one case, there was an error in the planned position. All cases were mandibular molar cases, and all cases of frame fracture were at the free end defect site. All cases had a Hounsfield unit of more than 700 at the implant site, and some of them had a significantly small jaw opening. Conclusion: Although the spread of CAD/CAM surgical templates has made it possible to avoid problems caused by the position of the implant, it has been difficult to avoid fractures in cases of mandibular free end defects with high Hounsfield unit.

A Study of Plaque Adhesion during Implant Treatment of Missing Molars

Purpose: In implant treatment, the abutments and superstructures form a transmucosal area. In addition to providing appropriate cleaning instructions to patients, its material properties must be carefully considered. It is not clear how much plaque adhesion occurs at each site during treatment process, and the effect of materials on plaque adhesion. Methods: In this study, 33 patients, 13 maxillary cases and 20 mandibular cases, who had implants placed in the missing molars were evaluated for the plaque adhesion of provisional restorations made of acrylic resin and monolithic zirconia final restoration after a period of more than 4 weeks. In addition, oral hygiene instructions were thoroughly given for 12 cases at the time of staining after the provisional restorations, and re-evaluated in 4 weeks. Results: About 20% of the buccal-lingual area of the prosthetic device fabricated with acrylic resin showed plaque staining, whereas about 40% of the area of the mesial and distal. On the other hand, for the zirconia final restorations, the percentage of staining was about 5% for buccal and lingual surface and 10% for mesial and distal surface. The stained area ratio of the provisional restoration correlated with the zirconia superstructure area ratio. Even with careful oral hygiene, it became clear that the amount of plaque adhesion due to the difference in materials could not be overcome. Conclusion: The zirconia superstructure is extremely good from the viewpoint of plaque adhesion, but cases with a large stained area at the time of provisional restoration should be carefully followed up.

Standard chemoradiotherapy(CRT) for local advanced rectal cancer(LARC) rarely induce rectal perforation. Here we report a rare case of rectal perforation in a patient with LARC in the midst of preoperative CRT. A 56-year-old male was conveyed to our hospital exhibiting general malaise. Colonoscopy and imaging tests resulted in a clinical diagnosis of LARC with direct invasion to adjacent organs and regional lymphadenopathy. Preoperative 5-fluorouracil-based CRT was started. At 25 d after the start of CRT, the patient developed a typical fever. Computed tomography revealed rectal perforation, and he underwent emergency sigmoid colostomy. At 12 d after the surgery, the remaining CRT was completed according to the original plan. The histopathological findings after radical operation revealed a wide field of tumor necrosis and fibrosis without lymph node metastasis. We share this case as important evidence for the treatment of LARC perforation in the midst of preoperative CRT.
