The a.a.icida. a.tivities of fourteen essentia. oils a.d fourteen of their ma.or monoterpenoids were tested a.a.nst house dust mites Derma.opha.oides pteronyssinus. Five concentra.ions were used over two different time interva.s 24 a.d 48 h under la.ora.ory conditions. In genera., it wa. noticed tha. the a.a.icida. effect ba.ed on LC50 of either essentia. oils or monoterpenoids a.a.nst the mite wa. time dependa.t. The LCso va.ues were decrea.ed by increa.ing of exposure time. Clove, ma.reca.y, chenopodium, rosema.y, euca.yptus a.d ca.a.a. oils were shown to ha.e high a.tivity. a. for the monoterpenoids, cinna.a.dehyde a.d chlorothymol were found to be the most effective followed by citronellol. This study suggests the use of the essentia. oils a.d their ma.or constituents a. ecofriendly biodegra.a.le a.ents for the control of house dust mite, D. pteronyssinus.

Ba.kground: Lumba. disc degenera.ion [LDD] is the ma.n ca.se of low ba.k pa.n, a.d is a.medica. circumsta.ce tha. poses a.grea. loa. on the globa. hea.th ca.e system with serious socioeconomic consequences. The a.m of this study wa. to determine the a.socia.ion of vita.in D receptors (VDR) gene Fok1 polymorphism, VDR expression a.d vita.in D level with LDD susceptibility a.d severity in Egyptia.s. Ma.eria.s a.d methods: a.tota. of unrela.ed 169 fema.e pa.ients with low ba.k pa.n dia.nosed a. ha.ing lumba. disc degenera.ion a.d 169 controls were enrolled in the study. VDR Fok1 polymorphism wa. determined using restriction fra.ment length polymorphism-polymera.e cha.n rea.tion [PCR-RFLP]. VDR expression wa. mea.ured by reverse tra.scripta.e PCR, while, serum levels of vita.in D were mea.ured by high performa.ce liquid chroma.ogra.hy [HPLC]. Results: Subjects with VDR Fok1 ff genotype were significa.tly more likely to develop LDD in Egyptia.s a.d a.socia.ed with multilevel disc degenera.ion a.d disc hernia.ion (a.justed OR = 7.9, 95% CI = 2.3-26.6 a.d P = 0.01) a.d (a.justed OR = 2.2, 95% CI = 1.6-3.7 a.d P = 0.031) respectively. VDR expression a.d vita.in D levels were significa.tly decrea.ed in LDD pa.ients a.d with multilevel disc degenera.ion a.d hernia.ion, (a.justed P = 0.042 a.d a.justed P = 0.028) respectively. Conclusion: VDR Fok1 muta.t a.leles a.d genotypes a.e a.socia.ed with the development a.d severity of LDD in Egyptia.s. a.so, VDR expression a.d vita.in D level could be the ma.ker for monitoring LDD.
