Quality of Nursing Courses as Perceived by Students: Relationship with Their Academic Achievement in Palestine College of Nursing

The purpose of this study was to determine the Bachelor Science of Nursing (BSN), student’s perceptions of the quality of nursing courses taught at Palestine College of Nursing (PCN), which were fundamentals of nursing course, adult nursing course, pediatric nursing course, maternity nursing course, community nursing course, mental health and psychiatric nursing course and nursing management and leadership course, and its relationship with their academic achievement. The Palestine College of Nursing is governmental and Ministry of Health (MOH) affiliated. The sample included 467 nursing students registered in the college who studied the previously mentioned nursing courses. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire developed by the researcher, and guided by literature. That was to assess the included nine quality dimensions of the nursing courses as perceived by the students. Content validity and reliability tests were done for the tool. The study revealed that the total students’ perceptions of the quality of all nurses courses were within average quality level (80.42%). The nursing management course and community health nursing course were of the first two ranks of high quality level (84.54%, and 84.48%, respectively), where mental health and psychiatric nursing course, fundamentals of nursing course, adult health nursing course, pediatric nursing course and maternity health nursing course were the next ranks of average quality level. The study revealed that students’ perceptions of seven dimensions from nine were with average quality level (80.50%). The first rank was the “teacher/instructor characteristics and attributes”, dimension of high quality level (84.44%), while the last rank was “teaching methodology” dimension of average quality level (77.54%). There was a positive relationship between students’ achievement and the courses’ quality dimensions, pertaining objectives of the course, contents of the course, teacher/instructor competencies, teacher characteristics, teaching methodology,

The presence of waste tires poses an environmental challenge as they occupy a significant amount of land and are expensive to dispose in landfills.However,reusing waste tires can address this issue when waste tires are used in geotechnical applications.To determine the viability of this approach,laboratoryscale tests were conducted to investigate load-bearing capacity of circular footings on sand-tire shred(STS)mixtures with shredded waste tire contents of 5%e15%by weight and three different widths of shreds.The investigation focused on analyzing the thickness of layers composed of STS mixtures,the soil cap,and the impact of geogrids on bearing capacity.The results indicate that a specific mixture of sand and tire shreds provides the highest footing-bearing capacity.In addition,the optimal shred content and size were found to be 10%by weight and 2 cm×10 cm,respectively.Furthermore,for a given tire shred width,a particular length provides the largest bearing capacity.The results agree well with that of previous research conducted by the first author and his colleagues in direct shear and California bearing ratio(CBR)tests.The primary finding of this research is that the use of two-layered STS mixtures reinforced by geogrids significantly enhances the bearing capacity.

The wear profile analysis,obtained by different tribometers,is essential to characterise the wear mechanisms.However,most of the available methods did not take the stress distribution over the wear profile in consideration,which causes inaccurate analysis.In this study,the wear profile of polymer–metal contact,obtained by block-on-ring configuration under dry sliding conditions,was analysed using finite element modelling(FEM)and experimental investigation.Archard’s wear equation was integrated into a developed FORTRAN-UMESHMOTION code linked with Abaqus software.A varying wear coefficient(k)values covering both running-in and steady state regions,and a range of applied loads involving both mild and severe wear regions were measured and implemented in the FEM.The FEM was in good agreement with the experiments.The model reproduced the stress distribution profiles under variable testing conditions,while their values were affected by the sliding direction and maximum wear depth(hmax).The largest area of the wear profile,exposed to the average contact stresses,is defined as the normal zone.Whereas the critical zones were characterized by high stress concentrations reaching up to 10 times of that at the normal zone.The wear profile was mapped to identify the critical zone where the stress concentration is the key point in this definition.The surface features were examined in different regions using scanning electron microscope(SEM).Ultimately,SEM analysis showed severer damage features in the critical zone than that in the normal zone as proven by FEM.However,the literature data presented and considered the wear features the same at any point of the wear profile.In this study,the normal zone was determined at a stress value of about 0.5 MPa,whereas the critical zone was at about 5.5 MPa.The wear behaviour of these two zones showed totally different features from one another.

信息缺失会降低译员的口译质量,造成交流障碍,产生负面影响,也会影响译员的信心。笔者对模拟会议录音进行了转写、整理和分析,经研究发现,口译中产生信息缺失的原因包括客观原因和主观原因,其中的主观原因主要包括听辨能力不足、背景知识不足和笔记有效性不足等,基于此,笔者决定对这些原因进行深入探讨,并提出对应的解决方案。本文研究的案例为2020年周小川在“外滩金融峰会”的演讲模拟会议,会议演讲者为周小川,其讨论的话题是疫情之后的“一带一路”。信息缺失是口译中非常普遍的问题,译员难以避免,但应通过针对性的训练,尽量减少该问题出现的机率。在模拟会议中,笔者作为译员,完成了整场会议的口译任务,在实践中发现,遇到的最突出的就是信息缺失的问题,所以笔者决定以此作为研究的内容,经分析研究,笔者认为,可以采取的解决方案有很多,比如提高汉语语言能力,做好译前准备,扩展知识面,多练习适当使用笔记符号,增强短时记忆能力以及提高逻辑分析能力等等。希望本研究对遇到同类问题的口译学习者及从业人员有借鉴意义。

Background:microRNA 34a(miR 34a)had been reported to have a diagnostic role in acute myeloid leukemia(AML).However,its value in the bone marrow(BM)of AML patients,in addition to its role in response to therapy is still unclear.The current study was designed to assess the diagnostic,prognostic,and predictive significance of miR 34a in the BM of AML patients.Methods:The miR.34a was assed in BM aspirate of 82 AML patients in relation to 12 normal control subjects using qRT-PCR.The data were assessed for correlation with the relevant dinical critenia,response to therapy,disease-free survival(DFS),and overall survival(OS)rates.Results:miR.34a was significantly downregulated in AML patients[0.005(3.3×10^(-6)-1.32)],compared to the control subjects[0.108(3.2× 10^(-4)-1.64),p=0.021].The.median relative quantification(RQ)of miR-34a was 0.106(range;0-32.12).The specifaity,sensitivity,and area under the curve(AUC)for the diagnosis of AML were(58.3%,69.5%,0.707,respectively,p=0.021).patients with upregulated miR-34a showed decreased platelets count<34.5 × 10^(9)/L,and achieved early complete remission(CR,p=0.031,p=0.044,respectively).Similarly,patients who were refractory to therapy showed decreased miR 34a levels in comparison to those who achieved CR[0.002(0-0.01)and 0.12(0-32.12),respectively,p=0.002].Therefore,miR 34a could significantly identify patients with CR with a specificity of 75%and sensitivity of 100%at a cut-off of 0.014(AUC=0.927,p=0.005).There was no considerable association between miR-34a expression and survival rates of the induded AML patients.Condusion:miR-34a could be a beneficial diagnostic biomarker for AML patients.In addition,it serves as a good indicator for response to therapy,which could possibly identify patients who are refractory to treatment with 100%sensitivity and 75%specificity.

Type 1 diabetes(T1D)is a chronic autoimmune condition that destroys insulinproducing beta cells in the pancreas,leading to insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia.The management of T1D primarily focuses on exogenous insulin replacement to control blood glucose levels.However,this approach does not address the underlying autoimmune process or prevent the progressive loss of beta cells.Recent research has explored the potential of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists(GLP-1RAs)as a novel intervention to modify the disease course and delay the onset of T1D.GLP-1RAs are medications initially developed for treating type 2 diabetes.They exert their effects by enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion,suppressing glucagon secretion,and slowing gastric emptying.Emerging evidence suggests that GLP-1RAs may also benefit the treatment of newly diagnosed patients with T1D.This article aims to highlight the potential of GLP-1RAs as an intervention to delay the onset of T1D,possibly through their potential immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects and preservation of beta-cells.This article aims to explore the potential of shifting the paradigm of T1D management from reactive insulin replacement to proactive disease modification,which should open new avenues for preventing and treating T1D,improving the quality of life and long-term outcomes for individuals at risk of T1D.

Forecasting river flow is crucial for optimal planning,management,and sustainability using freshwater resources.Many machine learning(ML)approaches have been enhanced to improve streamflow prediction.Hybrid techniques have been viewed as a viable method for enhancing the accuracy of univariate streamflow estimation when compared to standalone approaches.Current researchers have also emphasised using hybrid models to improve forecast accuracy.Accordingly,this paper conducts an updated literature review of applications of hybrid models in estimating streamflow over the last five years,summarising data preprocessing,univariate machine learning modelling strategy,advantages and disadvantages of standalone ML techniques,hybrid models,and performance metrics.This study focuses on two types of hybrid models:parameter optimisation-based hybrid models(OBH)and hybridisation of parameter optimisation-based and preprocessing-based hybridmodels(HOPH).Overall,this research supports the idea thatmeta-heuristic approaches precisely improveML techniques.It’s also one of the first efforts to comprehensively examine the efficiency of various meta-heuristic approaches(classified into four primary classes)hybridised with ML techniques.This study revealed that previous research applied swarm,evolutionary,physics,and hybrid metaheuristics with 77%,61%,12%,and 12%,respectively.Finally,there is still room for improving OBH and HOPH models by examining different data pre-processing techniques and metaheuristic algorithms.

This work investigated the microstructure and impact behavior of Mg-4Al-5RE-xGd（RE represents La-Ce mischmetal; x = 0, 0.2,0.7 wt.%） alloys cast by high-pressure die casting（HPDC）, permanent mold casting（PMC）, and sand casting（SC） techniques. The results indicated that with increasing Gd content, the grain sizes of the HPDC alloy had a slight change, but the grains of the PMC and SC alloys were significantly refined. Besides, the acicular Al11RE3phase was modified into the short-rod shape under the three casting conditions. The impact toughness of the studied alloy was mainly dominated by the absorbed energy during the crack initiation. With increasing Gd content,the impact toughness of the studied alloy monotonically increased due to the lower tendency of the modified second phase toward crack initiation. The impact stress was higher than the tensile stress, exhibiting a strain rate sensitivity for the mechanical response; however, the HPDC alloy had an inconsistent strain rate sensitivity during the impact event due to the transformation of the deformation mechanism from twinning to slip with increasing strain. Abundant dimples covered the fracture surface of the fine-grained HPDC alloys, indicating a typical ductile fracture. Nevertheless, due to the deficient {■} twinning activity and the suppressed grain boundary sliding during the impact event, the HPDC alloys showed insufficient plastic deformation capacity.

Herein,we employ the threshold energy neutron analysis(TENA)technique to introduce the world's first active interrogation system to detect special nuclear materials(SNMs),including U-235 and Pu-239.The system utilizes a DD neutron generator based on inertial electrostatic confinement(IEC)to interrogate suspicious objects.To detect secondary neutrons produced during fission reactions induced in SNMs,a tensioned metastable fluid detector(TMFD)is employed.The current status of the system's development is reported in this paper,accompanied by the results from experiments conducted to detect 10 g of highly enriched uranium(HEU).Notably,the experimental findings demonstrate a distinct difference in the count rates of measurements with and without HEU.This difference in count rates surpasses two times the standard deviation,indicating a confidence level of more than 96% for identifying the presence of HEU.The paper presents and extensively discusses the proof-of-principle experimental results,along with the system's planned trajectory.
