Comparative study of tensile and high-cycle fatigue properties of extruded AZ91 and AZ91-0.3Ca-0.2Y alloys

Mg-Al-Zn-Ca-Y alloys with excellent ignition and corrosion resistances—termed SEN alloys(where the letters"S,""E,"and"N"stand for stainless,environmentally friendly,and non-flammable,respectively)—have been developed *** this study,the microstructure,tensile properties,and high-cycle fatigue properties of an extruded Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn-0.3Ca-0.2Y(SEN9)alloy are investigated and compared with those of a commercial Mg-9.0Al-0.8Zn-0.1Mn(AZ91)alloy extruded under the same *** the extruded SEN9 alloy and the extruded AZ91 alloy have a fully recrystallized structure comprising equiaxed grains,but the former has a smaller average grain size owing to the promoted dynamic recrystallization during *** extruded AZ91 alloy contains coarse Mg_(17)Al_(12) discontinuous precipitate(DP)bands parallel to the extrusion direction,which are formed during its cool down after *** contrast,the extruded SEN9 alloy contains relatively fine undissolved Al_(2)Ca,Al_(8)Mn_(4)Y,and Al_(2)Y second-phase particles,which are formed during the solidification stage of the casting *** tensile strength of the extruded SEN9 alloy,which has finer grains and more abundant particles,is slightly higher than that of the extruded AZ91 ***,the difference in their strengths is relatively small because the stronger solid-solution hardening and precipitation hardening effects in the extruded AZ91alloy offset the stronger grain-boundary hardening and dispersion hardening effects in the extruded SEN9alloy to some *** tensile elongation of the extruded AZ91 alloy is significantly lower than that of the extruded SEN9 alloy because the large cracks formed in the DP bands in the former cause its premature *** the extruded SEN9 alloy has higher tensile properties than the extruded AZ91alloy,the high-cycle fatigue life and fatigue strength of the former are shorter and lower,respectively,than those of the *** DP bands in the extruded

Estimation of Non-CO_2 GHGs Emissions by Analyzing Burn Severity in the Samcheok Fire,South Korea

This study was performed to estimate the emission of non-CO 2 greenhouse gases(GHGs) from biomass burning at a large fire *** extended methodology adopted the IPCC Guidelines(2003) equation for use on data from the Samcheok forest fire gathered using 30 m resolution Landsat TM satellite imagery,digital forest type maps,and growing stock information per hectare by forest type in *** burn ratio(NBR) technique was employed to analyze the area and severity of the Samcheok forest fire that occurred in *** differences between NBR from pre-and post-fire datasets are examined to determine the extent and degree of change detected from *** results of burn severity analysis by dNBR of the Samcheok forest fire area revealed that a total of 16,200 ha of forest were *** proportion of the area characterized by a 'Low' burn severity(dNBR below 152) was 35%,with 'Moderate'(dNBR 153-190) and 'High'(dNBR 191-255) areas were at 33% and 32%,*** combustion efficiency for burn severity was calculated as 0.43 for crown fire where burn severity was 'High',as 0.40 for 'Moderate' severity,and 0.15 for 'Low' severity surface *** emission factors for estimating non-CO 2 GHGs were separately applied to CO 130,CH 4 9,NO x 0.7 and N 2 O ***-CO 2 GHGs emissions from biomass burning in the Samcheok forest fire area were estimated to be CO 44.100,CH 4 3.053,NO x 0.238 and N 2 O 0.038 Gg.

Effect of High-Performance Steel on the Tension Stiffening and Cracking Behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) Tension Ties

In construction industry, the application of high-performance reinforcement bar is required strongly. Unfortunately, not nearly enough research has been conducted on high-performance steel in comparison with high strength concrete. This paper describes the effect of high-performance steel as reinforcement steel bar on the tension response and cracking behavior of concrete and fiber-reinforced strain-hardening cement-based composite (SHCC) tension members. High-performance steel is characterized by higher strength in comparison to ASTM A615-06 Grade 60 steel. The tension stiffening effect on high-performance reinforcing bars embedded in cement-based composite prism is investigated experimentally. The variables in the study are types of cement-based composite (conventional concrete, synthetic fiber-reinforced cement composite), yielding strength of steel bars (400MPa and 600MPa), and types of loading (monotonic and repeated tension loading).

As one of conducting polymers,PEDOT:PSS,is commonly used in organic electronics,especially for bioelectronics due to its advantages such as high electrical and ionic conductivity,solution-processability and *** bioelectronics with the PEDOT:PSS requires advanced techniques to obtain physical/chemical modification of the PEDOT:PSS for improved performance and various *** satisfy these demands,fibrillary gelation of PEDOT:PSS by injection to choline acetate,an ionic liquid,with a constant flow rate was used in this study to make a conductive fiber and improve characteristics of PEDOT:*** fibers by fibrillary gelation showed enhanced electrical conductivity of about 400 S cm^(-1) and volumetric capacitance of about 154 F cm^(−3) which would be strongly beneficial to be utilized for organic electrochemical transistors(OECTs),resulting in a high transconductance of 19 mS in a ***,dedoping of the conductive fibers by PEI(polyethyleneimine)enabled the creation of enhancement-mode *** inverters were then fabricated by connecting depletion and enhancement-mode *** results demonstrate that these conductive fibers and electronic-textiles are suitable candidates for applications in bio-integrated electronics.

Objective and Impact *** propose a rapid and accurate blood cell identification method exploiting deep learning and label-free refractive index(RI)*** computational approach that fully utilizes tomographic information of bone marrow(BM)white blood cell(WBC)enables us to not only classify the blood cells with deep learning but also quantitatively study their morphological and biochemical properties for hematology *** methods for examining blood cells,such as blood smear analysis by medical professionals and fluorescence-activated cell sorting,require significant time,costs,and domain knowledge that could affect test *** label-free imaging techniques that use a specimen’s intrinsic contrast(e.g.,multiphoton and Raman microscopy)have been used to characterize blood cells,their imaging procedures and instrumentations are relatively time-consuming and *** RI tomograms of the BM WBCs are acquired via Mach-Zehnder interferometer-based tomographic microscope and classified by a 3D convolutional neural *** test our deep learning classifier for the four types of bone marrow WBC collected from healthy donors(n=10):monocyte,myelocyte,B lymphocyte,and T *** quantitative parameters of WBC are directly obtained from the *** results show>99%accuracy for the binary classification of myeloids and lymphoids and>96%accuracy for the four-type classification of B and T lymphocytes,monocyte,and *** feature learning capability of our approach is visualized via an unsupervised dimension reduction *** envision that the proposed cell classification framework can be easily integrated into existing blood cell investigation workflows,providing cost-effective and rapid diagnosis for hematologic malignancy.

Fabrication of High-Density Out-of-Plane Microneedle Arrays with Various Heights and Diverse Cross-Sectional Shapes

Out-of-plane microneedle structures are widely used in various applications such as transcutaneous drug delivery and neural signal recording for brain machine *** work presents a novel but simple method to fabricate high-density silicon(Si)microneedle arrays with various heights and diverse cross-sectional shapes depending on photomask pattern *** proposed fabrication method is composed of a single photolithography and two subsequent deep reactive ion etching(DRIE)***,a photoresist layer was patterned on a Si substrate to define areas to be etched,which will eventually determine the final location and shape of each individual ***,the 1st DRIE step created deep trenches with a highly anisotropic etching of the Si ***,the photoresist was removed for more isotropic etching;the 2nd DRIE isolated and sharpened microneedles from the predefined trench *** on diverse photomask designs,the 2nd DRIE formed arrays of microneedles that have various height distributions,as well as diverse cross-sectional shapes across the *** these simple steps,high-aspect ratio microneedles were created in the high density of up to 625 microneedles mm^(-2)on a Si *** tests showed a small force as low as~172μN/microneedle is required for microneedle arrays to penetrate the dura mater of a mouse *** demonstrate a feasibility of drug delivery application,we also implemented silk microneedle arrays using molding *** fabrication method of the present study is expected to be broadly applicable to create microneedle structures for drug delivery,neuroprosthetic devices,and so on.

High-performance solid-solution potassium-ion intercalation mechanism of multilayered turbostratic graphene nanosheets

The solid-solution reaction between an alkali cation and an active host material is known as a singlephase redox mechanism,and it is typically accompanied by a continuous voltage *** is distinct from the typical alkali cation intercalation reaction at an equivalent site of the active host material,which exhibits a voltage ***,we report an unusual solid-solution potassium-ion intercalation mechanism with a low-voltage plateau capacity on multilayered turbostratic graphene nanosheets(T-GNSs).Despite the disordered graphitic structure with a broad range of d-spacings(3.65–4.18À),the T-GNSs showed a reversible plateau capacity of~200 m A h g^(-1),which is higher than that of a well-ordered graphite nanoplate(~120 m A h g^(-1)).In addition,a sloping capacity of~220 m A h g^(-1)was delivered with the plateau capacity,and higher rate capabilities,better reversibility,and a more stable cycling performance were confirmed on the turbostratic ***-principles calculations suggest that the multitudinous lattice domains of the T-GNSs contain diverse intercalation sites with strong binding energies,which could be the origin of the high-performance solid-solution potassium-ion intercalation behavior when the turbostratic graphene stacks have a d-spacing smaller than that of equilibrium potassium–graphite intercalation compounds(5.35À).
