Endemic plants are important for understanding phylogenetic relationships,biogeographical history,and genetic variation because of their restricted distribution and their role in conserving ***,we investigated the phylogenetic relationships of the Korean endemic Fraxinus chiisanensis by reconstructing the molecular phylogeny of Fraxinus based on two nuclear DNA(nrITS and phantastica)and two chloroplast DNA(psbA-trnH and rp132-trnL)*** our fossil-calibrated phylogenetic framework,we also inferred the biogeographical history of *** provide a scientific basis for the conservation of ***,we determined the levels of genetic diversity and genetic differentiation in this *** information from nuclear and chloroplast DNA sequence data,our molecular phylogenetic analyses identified *** as a genetically distinct unit from its sister group,Fraxinus platypoda from *** molecular dating analyses using nuclear and chloroplast DNA data sets show *** diverged from its sister *** in the Early or Middle Miocene and differentiated in the Late Miocene on the Korean *** results suggest that the divergence of *** was associated with the submergence of the East China Sea land bridge and enhanced monsoons in East *** compared to ***,*** exhibits low genetic diversity within populations and high genetic differentiation among *** results help us to understand the evolutionary history of *** and to develop a conservation strategy for this species.

Since the development of uncovered self-expanding metal stents(SEMS) in the 1990 s, endoscopic stents have evolved dramatically. Application of new materialsand new designs has expanded the indications for enteral SEMS. At present, enteral stents are considered the first-line modality for palliative care, and numerous types of enteral stents are under development for extended clinical usage, beyond a merely palliative purpose. Herein, we will discuss the current status and the future development of lower enteral stents.

Theoretical physics foretells that ＂strain engineering＂ of graphene could hold the key to finding treasures still hidden in two-dimensional （2D） condensed matter physics and commercializing graphene-based devices. However, to produce strained graphene in large quantities is not an easy task by any means. Here, we demonstrate that thermal annealing of graphene placed on various substrates could be a surprisingly simple method for preparing strained graphene with a large area. We found that enhanced graphene-substrate interfacial adhesion plays a critical role in developing strained graphene. Creative device architectures that consider the thermal mismatch between graphene and the target substrate could enable the resulting strain to be intentionally tailored. We believe that our proposed method could suggest a shortcut to realization of graphene straintronics.

Diagnostic evaluation of endoscopic ultrasonography with submucosal saline injection for differentiating between T1a and T1b early gastric cancer

BACKGROUND Endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS)has become a reliable method for predicting the invasion depth of early gastric cancer(EGC).However,diagnostic accuracy of EUS is affected by several *** particular,it is difficult to differentiate between T1a and T1b EGC through *** To confirm whether submucosal saline injection(SSI)could improve the accuracy of EUS in distinguishing T1a and T1b lesions in *** Twenty-four patients with EGC were examined by EUS and subsequently by SSI combined EUS to compare the degree of tumor ***,they underwent endoscopic or surgical resection within 7 *** diagnostic accuracy of EUS and SSI combined EUS was evaluated based on the final pathological findings *** injected into the submucosa acted as an echoic contrast enhancing agent and had the effect of distinguishing the mucosal and submucosal layers *** Of total 24 patients,23 were diagnosed with EGC(T1 cancer:13 as T1a,and 10 as T1b).Standard EUS identified 6 of 13 T1a cancer patients and 3 of 10 T1b cancer ***,EUS-SSI identified 12 of 13 T1a cancer patients and 6 of 10 T1b cancer *** this study,SSI combined EUS was more accurate than EUS alone in diagnosing T1a and T1b lesions of EGC(75.0%and 37.5%,respectively).CONCLUSION SSI improved the diagnostic accuracy of EUS in distinguishing between the T1a and T1b stages in EGC.

Application of artificial intelligence in gastroenterology

Artificial intelligence(AI) using deep-learning(DL) has emerged as a breakthrough computer technology. By the era of big data, the accumulation of an enormous number of digital images and medical records drove the need for the utilization of AI to efficiently deal with these data, which have become fundamental resources for a machine to learn by itself. Among several DL models, the convolutional neural network showed outstanding performance in image analysis. In the field of gastroenterology, physicians handle large amounts of clinical data and various kinds of image devices such as endoscopy and ultrasound. AI has been applied in gastroenterology in terms of diagnosis,prognosis, and image analysis. However, potential inherent selection bias cannot be excluded in the form of retrospective study. Because overfitting and spectrum bias(class imbalance) have the possibility of overestimating the accuracy,external validation using unused datasets for model development, collected in a way that minimizes the spectrum bias, is mandatory. For robust verification,prospective studies with adequate inclusion/exclusion criteria, which represent the target populations, are needed. DL has its own lack of *** interpretability is important in that it can provide safety measures, help to detect bias, and create social acceptance, further investigations should be performed.

Clinical significance of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio as an early predictive marker for adverse outcomes in patients with acute pancreatitis

AIM To investigated the prognostic value of the neutrophillymphocyte ratio(NLR) in patients with acute pancreatitis and determined an optimal cut-off value for the prediction of adverse outcomes in these *** We retrospectively analyzed 490 patients with acute pancreatitis diagnosed between March 2007 and December 2012. NLRs were calculated at admission and 24, 48, and 72 h after admission. Patients were grouped according to acute pancreatitis severity and organ failure occurrence, and a comparative analysis was performed to compare the NLR between groups. RESULTS Among the 490 patients, 70 had severe acute pancreatitis with 31 experiencing organ failure. The severe acute pancreatitis group had a significantly higher NLR than the mild acute pancreatitis group on all 4 d(median, 6.14, 6.71, 5.70, and 4.00 vs 4.74, 4.47, 3.20, and 3.30, respectively, P < 0.05). The organ failure group had a significantly higher NLR than the group without organ failure on all 4 d(median, 7.09, 6.72, 6.27, and 6.24 vs 4.85, 4.49, 3.35, and 2.34, respectively, P < 0.05). The optimal cut-off value for baseline NLR was 4.76 in predicting severity and 4.88in predicting organ failure in acute pancreatitis. CONCLUSION Elevated baseline NLR correlates with severe acute pancreatitis and organ failure.

A novel device for endoscopic submucosal dissection,the Fork knife

AIM： To introduce and evaluate the efficacy and technical aspects of endoscopic submucosal dissection （ESD） using a novel device, the Fork knife. METHODS： From March 2004 to April 2008, ESD was performed on 265 gastric lesions using a Fork knife （Endo FS）（group A） and on 72 gastric lesions using a Flexknife （group B） at a single tertiary referral center. We retrospectively compared the endoscopic characteristics of the tumors, pathological findings, and sizes of the resected specimens. We also compared the en b/oc resection rate, complete resection rate, complications, and procedure time between the two groups. RESULTS： The mean size of the resected specimens was 4.27 ± 1.26 cm in group A and 4.29 ± 1.48 cm in group B. The en b/oc resection rate was 95.8% （254/265 lesions） in group A and 93.1% （67/72） in group B. Complete ESD without tumor cell invasion of the resected margin was obtained in 81.1% （215/265） of group A and in 73.6% （53/72） of group B. The perforation rate was 0.8% （2/265） in group A and 1.4% （1/72） in group B. The mean procedure time was 59.63 ± 56.12 min in group A and 76.65 ± 70.75 min in group B （P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： The Fork knife （Endo FS） is useful for clinical practice and has the advantage of reducing the procedure time.

Usefulness of magnifying endoscopy for iodine-unstained lesions in a high-risk esophageal cancer population

AIM: To investigate the usefulness of magnified observations of iodine-unstained esophageal lesions in the histological diagnosis of esophageal mucosa abnormalities, in high-risk esophageal cancer groups. METHODS: The subjects included 38 patients who had at least one of the four criteria known to be highrisk factors for esophageal cancer. Following endoscopic observation, magnified observations were performed on iodine-unstained lesions of the esophagus. The total number of lesions was 43. These lesions were classified as type A (clear papilla), type B (fused papilla), and type C (non-visible papilla) according to the findings. Tissue biopsy was then carried out. Finally the histological findings were graded in terms of histological factors, and their relationships were compared. RESULTS: Of the 43 lesions, 11 were type A, 17 were type B, and 15 were type C under magnifying endoscopy. Histological findings such as inflammatory cell infiltration and basal cell hyperplasia were significantly increased in type B and type C lesions compared with type A lesions (P < 0.05). Low-grade esophageal dysplasia was apparent in 1 (9%) of 11 type A lesions, in 3 (18%) of 17 type B lesions, and in 6 (40%) of 15 type C lesions, with the highest rate in type C. CONCLUSION: Magnified observations of the esophagus, classified by papillary aspects using magnifying endoscopy of iodine-unstained lesions in high-risk esophageal cancer groups, are considered useful in estimating dysplasia and inflammation of esophageal mucosa.

Carcinoma in situ arising in a tubulovillous adenoma of the distal common bile duct: A case report

Tubulovillous adenomas are common in the colon and rectum, but are rare in the common bile duct. Biliary adenomas may produce obstructive jaundice, which can be easily confused with a malignant neoplasm or stone. We report a case of a carcinoma in situ arising in a tubulovillous adenoma of the distal common bile duct causing obstructive jaundice. A 55-year-old male presented with a 10-d history of pruritus and progressive jaundice. Abdominal sonography and computed tomography showed a mass in the distal common bile duct. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography showed luminal narrowing of the bile duct due to a polypoid mass. Positron emission tomography demonstrated no abnormal uptake. It was thought that this mass was a malignant tumor, thus a pylorus-preserving panceaticoduodenectomy was performed. The final pathology showed a tubulovillous adenoma with carcinoma in situ of the distal common bile duct. At follow-up 8 mo later, endoscopy showed multiple polyps in the rectum, colon and stomach. The polyps were removed by endoscopic mucosal resection and shown to be tubular adenomas with high grade dysplasia. Biliary adenomas require careful follow-up for early detection of recurrence and malignant transformation.

In this paper,we studied the acceleration behavior of a quadruped animal during a galloping *** the development of many quadruped robotic systems has been focused on dynamic movements,it is obvious that guidance from the dynamic behavior of quadruped animals is needed for robotics *** fulfill this demand,this paper deals with analysis of the galloping motions of a domestic cat,which is well known for its excellent acceleration performance among four-legged *** on the planar motion capture environment,the movement data of a galloping feline was acquired and the dynamic motions were estimated using a spring-mass *** particular,the effects of the position and angle of the center-of-mass of the cat,angular displacement of the spine,and angular velocity of the spine were analyzed and are discussed *** this process,it was possible to understand the dynamic movement characteristics of the cat,and to understand the relationships between,and the influences of,these *** this analysis,we provide significant data applicable to the design of joint movements in quadruped robot systems.
