The strain behavior of 0.71 Pb(Mg_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))O_(3)ePbTiO_(3)(PMN-PT)single crystal prepared by a solidstate single crystal growth method was investigated on two most widely used orientations,i.e.,(001)-and(011)-oriented.A special emphasis was put on the correlation among longitudinal and transverse strains and the consequent volume *** show that seemingly different strain behavior of(001)-and(011)-oriented crystals has the same origin,and the underlying mechanism excludes possible contribution from the frequently cited polarization *** situ monitoring of electric field induced Poisson’s ratio further suggested that the polarization vectors contributing to the strain properties in PMN-PT are not confined to a unique direction forced by the crystallographic symmetry but possess a span of angular range.

Eight effective bacterial strains were isolated from cyanide-contaminated soil, from which, two (S11 and S13) were tested to determine their minimum inhibitory concentration using potassium cyanide (KCN) and potassium tetracyano nickelate (K2Ni(CN) 4). The isolates were tested for their KCN biodegradation potential (by measuring ammonia production) at neutral and alkaline pHs (7.0 and 9.0). Furthermore, the effect of the initial KCN concentration on biodegradation was evaluated at the optimal pH using nitrogen free M9 medium, supplemented with KCN as nitrogen source. The results showed that both strains tolerated cyanide concentrations of up to 10 × 10-3 mol⋅l-1 (0.651 g⋅l-1 KCN;2.409 g⋅l-1 K2Ni(CN)4) which makes them good candidates for cyanide bioremediation. For both strains, a change of initial pH from 7.0 to 9.0 significantly enhanced KCN degradation. S13 grown at pH 9.0 and S11 cultivated at pH 7.0 released the highest and lowest amounts of ammonia, respectively. For both strains, the release of ammonia increased when the initial KCN concentration increased from 10-3 to 5 × 10-3 mol⋅l-1. These findings open prospects for the application of these bacteria for remediation of cyanide-contaminated soils and wastewater at alkaline pH, alkaline pH being conditions that prevent cyanide volatilization.

Objective: To examine whether Caulerpa okamurae ethanolic extract(COE) could inhibit obesitymediated inflammation, improve glucose metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity, using in vitro cell models of RAW 264.7 macrophages and 3 T3-L1 ***: We cocultured 3 T3-L1 adipocytes in direct contact with lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages and induced insulin resistance in 3 T3-L1 adipocytes with tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) in the presence or absence of 250 mg/m L of COE. We investigated various markers of inflammation, glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity in these models using Griess reagent to measure nitric oxide(NO) production, 2-[N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) amino]-2-deoxyglucose to measure glucose uptake, Western blot analysis to quantify protein expression and reverse transcriptasepolymerase chain reaction to evaluate m RNA ***: We found that COE(250 mg/m L) significantly inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response in RAW 264.7 macrophages by downregulating NO production, nitric oxide synthase 2 expression and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-j B. COE also showed similar anti-inflammatory activity in coculture, along with decreased TNF-a, interleukin-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein m RNA expression. In addition, COE also improved glucose uptake in coculture by upregulating glucose transporter-4(GLUT-4) and adiponectin and reducing serine phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate-1(IRS1). In the TNF-a-induced insulin resistance model of 3 T3-L1 adipocytes, COE significantly improved both basal and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake, accompanied by phosphorylation of IRS1 at tyrosine 632, phospho-50 adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase a and glycogen synthase kinase-3 b(Ser9) as well as upregulation of ***: Together, these findings suggest that COE has potential to treat or prevent obesity-induced metabolic disorders.

AIM: To investigate risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and efficacy of various criteria. METHODS: From October 2000 to November 2011, 233 adult patients underwent LDLT for HCC at our institution. After excluding nine postoperative mortality cases, we analyzed retrospectively 224 patients. To identify risk factors for recurrence, we evaluated recurrence, disease-free survival (DFS) rate, survival rate, and various other factors which are based on the characteristics of both the patient and tumor. Additionally, we developed our own criteria based on our data. Next, we compared our selection criteria with various tumor-grading scales, such as the Milan criteria, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) criteria, TNM stage, Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage and Cancer of the Liver Italian Program (CLIP) scoring system. The median follow up was 68 (6-139) ***: In 224 patients who received LDLT for HCC, 37 (16.5%) experienced tumor recurrence during the follow-up period. The 5-year DFS and overall survival rates after LDLT in all patients with HCC were 80.9% and 76.4%, respectively. On multivariate analysis, the tumor diameter {5 cm; P < 0.001; exponentiation of the B coefficient [Exp(B)], 11.89; 95%CI: 3.784-37.368} and alpha fetoprotein level [AFP, 100 ng/mL; P = 0.021; Exp(B), 2.892; 95%CI: 1.172-7.132] had significant influences on HCC recurrence after LDLT. Therefore, these two factors were included in our criteria. Based on these data, we set our selection criteria as a tumor diameter ≤ 5 cm and AFP ≤ 100 ng/mL. Within our new criteria (140/214, 65.4%), the 5-year DFS and overall survival rates were 88.6% and 81.8%, respectively. Our criteria (P = 0.001), Milan criteria (P = 0.009), and UCSF criteria (P = 0.001) showed a significant difference in DFS rate. Background: Hepatic tumors with complex vascular supply or poor relative perfusion are prone to decreased rates of objective response. This is compounded in the setting of Yttrium-90(Y90) transarterial radioembolization(TARE), which is minimally embolic and flow-dependent, relying on high threshold dose for complete ***: We describe our experience with intrahepatic flow diversion(FD) prior to TARE of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) with challenging vascular *** and methods: Between April 2014 and january 2020, 886 cases of coinciding MAA or TARE and bland embolization or temporary occlusion were *** embolizations performed for more routine purposes were excluded. FD was performed by bland embolization or temporary occlusion of vessels supplying non-malignant parenchyma in cases where flow was not preferential to target tumor. Lesion characteristics, vascular supply, treatment approach, angiography, and adverse events(AEs) were reviewed. Radiographic response was assessed using mRECIST ***: 22 cases of FD of focal HCC were identified. Embolics included calibrated microspheres(n = 11), microcoils(n = 4), gelfoam(n = 3), temporary balloon occlusion(n = 2) and temporary deployment of a microvascular plug(n = 1). Post-treatment SPECT-CT dosimetry coverage was concordant with target lesions in all cases. Mean follow-up was 16.7 months(1.4–45 mos). Tumor-specific response per m RECIST was 41% complete response, 50% objective response, and 59% disease control rate. No major adverse events or grade 3/4 hepatotoxicity were ***: Our findings suggest that FD prior to TARE is safe and potentially effective in treating HCC with complex vascular supply or poor tumor perfusion.

AIM:To determine the risk factors of biliary intervention using magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP) after living donor liver transplantation(LDLT).METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 196 patients who underwent right lobe LDLT between 2006 and 2010 at a single liver transplantation center. Direct duct-to-duct biliary anastomosis was performed in all 196 patients. MRCP images routinely taken 1 mo after LDLT were analyzed to identify risk factors for biliary intervention during follow-up, such as retrograde cholangiopancreatography or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. Two experienced radiologists evaluated the MRCP findings, including the anastomosis site angle on three-dimensional images, the length of the filling defect on maximum intensity projection, bile duct dilatation, biliary stricture, and ***: Eighty-nine patients underwent biliary intervention during follow-up. The anastomosis site angle [hazard ratio(HR) = 0.48; 95% confidence interval(CI), 0.30-0.75, P < 0.001], a filling defect in the anastomosis site(HR = 2.18, 95%CI: 1.41-3.38,P = 0.001), and biliary leakage(HR = 2.52, 95%CI: 1.02-6.20, P = 0.048) on MRCP were identified in the multivariate analysis as significant risk factors for biliary intervention during follow-up. Moreover, a narrower anastomosis site angle(i.e., below the median angle of 113.3°) was associated with earlier biliary intervention(38.5 ± 4.2 mo vs 62. 1 ± 4.1 mo, P < 0.001). Kaplan-Meier analysis comparing biliary intervention-free survival according to the anastomosis site angle revealed that lower survival was associated with a narrower anastomosis site angle(36.3% vs 62.0%, P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: The biliary anastomosis site angle in MRCP after LDLT may be associated with the need for biliary intervention.

Retrieval of the Single Scattering Albedo of Asian Dust Mixed with Pollutants Using Lidar Observations

The vertical distribution of single scattering albedos （SSAs） of Asian dust mixed with pollutants was derived using the multi-wavelength Raman lidar observation system at Gwangju （35.10°N,126.53°E）.Vertical profiles of both backscatter and extinction coefficients for dust and non-dust aerosols were extracted from a mixed Asian dust plume using the depolarization ratio from lidar *** profiles of backscatter and extinction coefficients of non-dust particles were input into an inversion algorithm to retrieve the SSAs of non-dust *** aerosol layers at different heights had different light-absorbing *** SSAs of non-dust particles at each height varied with aerosol type,which was either urban/industrial pollutants from China transported over long distances at high altitude,or regional/local pollutants from the Korean *** advantage of independent profiles of SSAs of non-dust particles,vertical profiles of SSAs of Asian dust mixed with pollutants were estimated for the first time,with a new approach suggested in this study using an empirical determination of the SSA of pure *** SSAs of the Asian dust-pollutants mixture within the planetary boundary layer （PBL） were in the range 0.88-0.91,while the values above the PBL were in the range 0.76-0.87,with a very low mean value of 0.76 ± *** total mixed dust plume SSAs in each aerosol layer were integrated over height for comparison with results from the Aerosol Robotics Network （AERONET） *** of SSA retrieved from lidar observations of 0.92 ± 0.01 were in good agreement with the results from AERONET measurements.
