Comparison between sodium iodate and lipid peroxide murine models of age-related macular degeneration for drug evaluation-a narrative review

Objective:In this review,non-transgenic models of age-related macular degeneration(AMD)are discussed,with focuses on murine retinal degeneration induced by sodium iodate and lipid peroxide(HpODE)as preclinical study ***:AMD is the most common cause of vision loss in a world with an increasingly aging *** major phenotypes of early and intermediate AMD are increased drusen and autofluorescence,Müller glia activation,infiltrated subretinal microglia and inward moving retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)*** AMD may progress to advanced AMD,characterized by geography atrophy and/or choroidal neovascularization(CNV).Various transgenic and non-transgenic animal models related to retinal degeneration have been generated to investigate AMD pathogenesis and pathobiology,and have been widely used as potential therapeutic evaluation ***:Two retinal degeneration murine models induced by sodium iodate and HpODE are *** pathological features and procedures of these two models are *** addition,practical protocol and material preparation and assessment methods are ***:Retina degeneration induced by sodium iodate and HpODE in mouse eye resembles many clinical aspects of human AMD and complimentary to the existent other animal ***,standardization of procedure and assessment protocols is needed for preclinical *** studies of HpODE on different routes,doses and species will be valuable for the future extensive *** many merits of murine studies,differences between murine and human should be always considered.

Properties of Ultra-Thin Hafnium Oxide and Interfacial Layer Deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition

Ultra-thin hafnium-oxide gate dielectric films deposited by atomic layer deposition technique using HfCl4 and H2O precursor on a hydrogen-terminated Si substrate were investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the interface layer is Hf-silicate rather than phase separated Hf-silicide and silicon oxide structure. The Hf-silicate interfacial layer partially changes into SiOx after high temperature annealing, resulting in a complex HfO2-silicate-SiOx dielectric structure. Electrical measurements confirms that HfO2 on Si is stable up to 700 ℃ for 30 s under N2 ambient.

Digital Vision Based Concrete Compressive Strength Evaluating Model Using Deep Convolutional Neural Network

Compressive strength of concrete is a significant factor to assess building structure health and ***,various methods have been developed to evaluate the compressive strength of concrete ***,previous methods have several challenges in costly,time-consuming,and *** address these drawbacks,this paper proposed a digital vision based concrete compressive strength evaluating model using deep convolutional neural network(DCNN).The proposed model presented an alternative approach to evaluating the concrete strength and contributed to improving efficiency and *** model was developed with 4,000 digital images and 61,996 images extracted from video recordings collected from concrete *** experimental results indicated a root mean square error(RMSE)value of 3.56(MPa),demonstrating a strong feasibility that the proposed model can be utilized to predict the concrete strength with digital images of their surfaces and advantages to overcome the previous *** experiment contributed to provide the basis that could be extended to future research with image analysis technique and artificial neural network in the diagnosis of concrete building structures.

Reprogramming of cancer-associated fibroblasts by apoptotic cancer cells inhibits lung metastasis via Notch1-WISP-1 signaling

The interplay between apoptotic cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment modulates cancer progression and ***-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)play a crucial role in promoting these events through paracrine ***,we demonstrate that conditioned medium(CM)from lung CAFs exposed to apoptotic cancer cells suppresses TGF-β1-induced migration and invasion of cancer cells and *** exposure of CAFs to apoptotic 344SQ cells(ApoSQ)inhibited CAF migration and invasion and the expression of CAF activation *** secretion of Wnt‐induced signaling protein 1(WISP-1)by CAFs exposed to ApoSQ was required for these antimigratory and anti-invasive *** inhibition of Notch1 activation or siRNA-mediated Notch1 silencing prevented WISP-1 production by CAFs and reversed the antimigratory and anti-invasive *** expression of the Notch ligand delta-like protein 1 on the surface of ultraviolet-irradiated apoptotic lung cancer cells triggered Notch1-WISP-1 *** receptor brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1(BAI1)-Rac1 signaling,which facilitated efferocytosis by CAFs,participated in crosstalk with Notch1 signaling for optimal production of *** addition,a single injection of ApoSQ enhanced WISP-1 production,suppressed the expression of CAF activation markers in isolated Thy1^(+)CAFs,and inhibited lung metastasis in syngeneic immunocompetent mice via Notch1 *** with CM from CAFs exposed to ApoSQ suppressed tumor growth and lung metastasis,whereas treatment with WISP-1-immunodepleted CM from CAFs exposed to ApoSQ reversed the antitumorigenic and antimetastatic ***,treatment with CM from CAFs exposed to apoptotic lung cancer cells could be therapeutically applied to suppress CAF activation,thereby preventing cancer progression and metastasis.

The Cambrian Period is the first period of the Phanerozoic Eon and witnessed the explosive appearance of the metazoans, representing the beginning of the modern earth-life system characterized by animals in contrary to the Precambrian earth-life system dominated by microbial life. However, understanding Cambrian earth-life system evolution is hampered by regional and global stratigraphic correlations due to an incomplete chronostratigraphy and consequent absence of a highresolution timescale. Here we briefly review the historical narrative of the present international chronostratigraphic framework of the Cambrian System and summarize recent advances and problems of the undefined Cambrian stage GSSPs, in particular we challenge the global correlation of the GSSP for the Cambrian base, in addition to Cambrian chemostratigraphy and geochronology. Based on the recent advances of the international Cambrian chronostratigraphy, revisions to the Cambrian chronostratigraphy of China, which are largely based on the stratigraphic record of South China, are suggested, and the Xiaotanian Stage is newly proposed for the Cambrian Stage 2 of China. We further summarize the integrative stratigraphy of South China, North China and Tarim platforms respectively with an emphasis on the facies variations of the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary successions and problems for identification of the Cambrian base in the different facies and areas of China. Moreover, we discuss stratigraphic complications that are introduced by poorly fossiliferous dolomite successions in the upper Cambrian System which are widespread in South China, North China and Tarim platforms.

Adverse events related to colonoscopy: Global trends and future challenges

Colonoscopy is a widely used method for diagnosing and treating colonic disease. The number of colonoscopies is increasing worldwide, and concerns about associated adverse events are growing. Large-scale studies using big data for post-colonoscopy complications have been reported. A colon perforation is a severe complication with a relatively high mortality rate. The perforation rate, as reported in large studies(≥ 50,000 colonoscopies) published since 2000, ranges from 0.005-0.085%. The trend in the overall perforation rate in the past 15 years has not changed significantly. Bleeding is a more common adverse event than perforation. Recent large studies(≥ 50,000 colonoscopies) have reported postcolonoscopy bleeding occurring in 0.001-0.687% of cases. Most studies about adverse events related to colonoscopy were performed in the West, and relatively few studies have been conducted in the East. The incidence of post-colonoscopy complications increases in elderly patients or patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. It is important to use a unified definition and refined data to overcome the limitations of previous studies. In addition, a structured training program for endoscopists and a systematic national management program are needed to reduce post-colonoscopy complications. In this review, we discuss the current trends in colonoscopy related to adverse events, as well as the challenges to be addressed through future research.

Cellular reprogramming technologies have been developed with different physicochemical factors to improve the reprogramming efficiencies of induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs).Ultrasound is a clinically applied noncontact biophysical factor known for regulating various cellular behaviors but remains uninvestigated for cellular ***,we present a new reprogramming strategy using low-intensity ultrasound(LIUS)to improve cellular reprogramming of iPSCs in vitro and in *** 3D microenvironment conditions,increased LIUS stimulation shows enhanced cellular reprogramming of the *** cellular reprogramming process facilitated by LIUS is accompanied by increased mesenchymal to epithelial transition and histone *** stimulation transiently modulates the cytoskeletal rearrangement,along with increased membrane fluidity and mobility to increase HA/CD44 ***,LIUS stimulation with HA hydrogel can be utilized in application of both human cells and in vivo environment,for enhanced reprogrammed cells into ***,LIUS stimulation with a combinatorial 3D microenvironment system can improve cellular reprogramming in vitro and in vivo environments,which can be applied in various biomedical fields.

Effect of robot-assisted gait training on the biomechanical properties of burn scars:a single-blind,randomized controlled trial

Background:Robot-assisted gait training(RAGT)is more effective in the range of motion(ROM)and isometric strength in patients with burns than conventional ***,concerns have been raised about whether RAGT might negatively affect the scars of patients with ***,we investigated the effects of RAGT-induced mechanical load on the biomechanical properties of burn ***:This was a single-blind,randomized clinical trial conducted on inpatients admitted to the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine between September 2020 and August *** was conducted for 30 min per day,five days a week for 12 weeks and the control group received conventional gait training for 12 *** pre-training ROM of lower extremity joints was evaluated and the levels of melanin,erythema,trans-epidermal water loss,scar distensibility and elasticity were assessed before training and at 4 and 12 weeks after ***,19 patients in the gait assistance robot(GAR)group and 20 patients in the control group completed the 12-week trial and all ***:There were no significant differences in the epidemiologic characteristics,pre-training ROM of joints and pre-training biomechanical properties of the burn scar between the groups(p>0.05 for all).None of the patients experienced skin abrasion around the burn scar where the fastening belts were applied or musculoskeletal or cardiovascular adverse events during the *** thickness significantly increased in both groups(p=0.037 and p=0.019)and scar distensibility significantly decreased in the control group(p=0.011)during the *** was significantly decreased in the GAR group during the training(p=0.038).The GAR and control groups showed significant difference in the change in the values of hysteresis between pre-training and 12 weeks after training(p=0.441 and p=0.049).Conclusions:RAGT significantly decreased hysteresis in hypertrophic burn scars and did not cause a significant decrease
