Polymer donors with hydrophilic side-chains enabling efficient and thermally-stable polymer solar cells by non-halogenated solvent processing

Polymer solar cells(PSCs)with high power conversion efficiency(PCE)and environment-friendly fabrication are the main requirements enabling their production in industrial scale.While the use of non-halogenated solvent processing is inevitable for the PSC fabrication,it significantly reduces the processability of polymer donors(PDS)and small-molecule acceptors(SMAs).This often results in unoptimized blend morphology and limits the device performance.To address this issue,hydrophilic oligoethylene glycol(OEG)side-chains are introduced into a PD(2EG)to enhance the molecular compatibility between the PD and L8-BO SMA.The 2EG PD induces higher crystallinity and alleviates phase separation with the SMA compared to the reference PD(PM7)with hydrocarbon side-chains.Consequently,the 2EG-based PSCs exhibit a higher PCE(15.8%)than the PM7-based PSCs(PCE=14.4%)in the ortho-xylene based processing.Importantly,benefitted from the reduced phase separation and increased crystallinity of 2EG PDS,the 2EG-based PSCs show enhanced thermal stability(84%of initial PCE after 120 h heating)compared to that of the PM7-based PSCs(60%of initial PCE after 120 h heating).This study demonstrates the potential of OEG side-chain-incorporated materials in developing efficient,stable,and eco-friendly PSCs.

Dear Editor,Antibiotics are considered indispensable in numerous treatments against infectious diseases.However,their over-prescription and widespread use are emerging as important global issues,as they lead to resistant bacteria,reducing the efficacy of antibiotics[1].The defined daily doses per 1,000 habitants per day for antibiotics in South Korea is 28,which is much higher than the average of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries[1].In animal studies,antibiotic tigecycline was found to inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)cells[2].In addition,isoprenoid antibiotic was found to suppress the growth and invasion of HCC by targeting the signal transducer and activator of the transcription 3 signaling cascade[3].Despite evidence of the beneficial effects of antibiotics against HCC,evidence regarding their effects on the longterm development of HCC is limited.Introduction regarding the incidence of HCC is provided in the Supplementary file.

Polymyxin B hemoperfusion as a feasible therapy after source control in abdominal septic shock

BACKGROUND Polymyxin B hemoperfusion(PMX-HP)has been used as a treatment for intraabdominal septic shock by absorbing and removing endotoxins of gram-negative bacilli.AIM To investigate the clinical efficacy of PMX-HP in patients with gram-negative septic shock who underwent abdominal surgery.METHODS From January 2012 to December 2018,patients who had septic shock secondary to peritonitis were enrolled.They were classified into PMX-HP treated and control groups based on postopreative intervention using PMX-HP.The clinical outcomes were compared using 1:1 propensity score matching methods to balance the overall distribution between the two groups.RESULTS After propensity score matching,40 patients were analyzed(20 patients in the PMX group and 20 patients in the control group).The scores of total Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA)score,renal SOFA and coagulation SOFA were significantly improved in the PMX group but not in the control group.(from 11.2±5.8 to 4.7±3.5 in PMX group vs 10.0±4.0 to 8.7±7.3 in control group,P=0.047 from 2.6±1.0 to 0.7±1.0 in PMX group vs 2.6±1.5 to 2.8±1.6 in control group,P=0.000,from 1.6±1.5 to 1.3±1.3 in PMX group vs 1.2±1.2 to 2.8±1.8 in control group,P=0.014,respectively).Further,the length of intensive care unit(ICU)stay was significantly shorter in PMX group.However,no statistically significant difference was found in ICU mortality(50%in PMX group vs 50%in control group).CONCLUSION PMX-HP is a feasible adjunct treatment for peritonitis in ICU patients with peritonitis for improved organ impairment and to stabilize hemodynamics.It would be helpful to enhance clinical outcomes especially in patients with complete elimination of the source of gram-negative bacilli infection by surgical procedure accompanied with conventional treatment of sepsis.

Measurement of stiffness and damping coefficient of rubber tractor tires using dynamic cleat test based on point contact model

The ride vibration of a tractor is affected mostly by the stiffness and damping coefficient of the seat suspension,cabin suspension,cabin rubber mounts,and rubber tires.However,in the case of rubber tractor tires,the stiffnesses and damping coefficients have not been researched adequately thus far,and it is not simple to measure these characteristics.In this study,a method for measuring and analyzing the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires,which were the input parameters for the tractor ride vibration simulation,was proposed.The cleat test,proposed in this study,did not require separate and complicated test equipment,unlike the conventional methods.The test was conducted simply by measuring acceleration under the driving conditions of the vehicle without detaching tires from the vehicle body or setting up additional test equipment.Based on the ground-vertical acceleration data obtained,the stiffness was calculated using the logarithmic decrement method,and the damping coefficient was calculated using least squares exponential curve fitting.The result of the cleat test indicated that the front tires had stiffnesses of 486.08-570.69 kN/m and damping coefficients of 4.02-4.52 kN·s/m;the rear tires had stiffnesses of 409.42-483.79 kN/m and damping coefficients of 2.21-2.67 kN·s/m.During the test,40 mm height cleats were installed on the track and the speed of the tractor was set to 7 and 10 km/h,which were the most common speeds during the operation.This study is meaningful in that it has presented a new method that improves the practicality of results,reduces cost,and simplifies the test process for measuring the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires.

Evaluation of early-age strains and stresses in roller-compacted concrete pavement

In the structural design of a roller-compacted concrete pavement(RCCP), it is crucial to estimate strain and stress developments in the RCCP slab realistically. Since the RCCP mix uses less cement and lower amount of water, shrinkage strain and concrete temperature during the hardening stage are expected to be reduced as compared to those of conventional concrete mixture, resulting in a reduction of the concrete early-age deformation and stress developments in the RCCP slab. In this paper, early-age concrete strain and stress developments in RCCP slab subjected to environmental loads were evaluated. A full-scale test section of RCCP under real climatic conditions was monitored. The early-age total strains,stress-independent strains, shrinkage strains, and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) of the RCCP were measured and analyzed. Using the results of measured strains, in-situ CTE and shrinkage strain, and temperature, the early-age concrete stress development is computed by incorporating a viscoelastic property of the early-age concrete. The results revealed that the shrinkage strain of the RCCP is quite low as compared to that of conventional concrete. The early-age stress developments in the RCCP slab are strongly governed by the thermal-induced stresses. Shrinkage-induced stresses were quite small and might be negligible in a preliminary estimation of early-age stress developments in the RCCP slab.

Stability Indicating RP-HPLC Method for Quantification of Impurities in Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide FDC Tablet Dosage Form

A stability-indicating RP-HPLC method has been developed and validated for simultaneous determination of Valsartan & Hydrochlorothiazide and their impurities in FDC (Fixed Dose Combination) tablet dosage form. The method was developed using L1 column (250 × 4.6 mm;5 μm) with gradient elution using the mobile phase consisting of solvent-A (0.1% Ortho phosphoric acid) and solvent-B (100% Acetonitrile);the gradient program (Tmin/%B) was set as 0/10, 5/10, 20/60, 40/60, 41/10 and 50/10. The eluted compounds were monitored at 265 nm. The developed method was validated as per ICH guidelines with respect to specificity, linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, accuracy, precision and robustness. The influence of Acid, Alkaline, Oxidative, Photolytic, Thermal and Humidity stress conditions, on drug product was studied. The limit of quantification results of Valsartan, Hydrochlorothiazide and their impurities are, VAL: 0.303 μg/mL, HCTZ: 0.019 μg/mL, VAL RC-B: 0.085 μg/mL, VAL RC-C: 0.327 μg/mL, HCT RC-A: 0.017 μg/mL, CTZ: 0.080 μg/mL and 5-Chloro HCT: 0.047 μg/mL. The proposed method is suitable for the estimation of Valsartan & Hydrochlorothiazide impurities in tablets dosage form.

A novel stability-indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for simultaneous determination of Solifenacin Succinate & Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and its impurities in tablet dosage form. The method was developed using L1 column with gradient using the mobile phase consist of solvent-A (pH = 6.6, phosphate buffer + 0.5% Triethylamine) and solvent-B (90% Acetonitrile). The eluted compounds were monitored at 225 nm. Solifenacin Succinate & Tamsulosin Hydrochloride was subjected to oxidative, acid, base, hydrolytic, thermal and photolytic stress conditions. The developed method was validated as per ICH guidelines with respect to specificity, linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, accuracy, precision and robustness. The limit of quantification results was ranged from 0.135 - 0.221 μg/mL for Solifenacin Succinate impurities and 0.043 - 0.090 μg/mL for Tamsulosin Hydrochloride impurities. This method is suitable for the estimation of impurities and assay of Solifenacin Succinate & Tamsulosin Hydrochloride in tablets dosage form.

Effect of Ni and Mn on the Mechanical Properties of 22Cr Microduplex Stainless Steel

The tensile properties of 22Cr–2Ni–4Mn–0.2N micro-duplex stainless steels with different Ni and Mn contents were investigated. Duplex stainless steels were vacuum induction melted and hot rolled, then annealed at 1,000–1,100 °C, at which temperature both the austenite and ferrite phases were stable. The volume fraction of the ferrite phase was markedly affected by the alloying elements of Mn and Ni; 1 wt% of Mn was equivalent to 0.4 wt% of Ni. All of the steels tested at room temperature showed the common strain-hardening behavior, while the steels tested at lower temperatures（-30 or-50 °C）showed a distinct inflection point in their stress–strain curves, which resulted from the transformation of the austenite to straininduced martensite. The onset strain（e0） of the inflection point in the stress–strain curve depended on the Md30 value of the steel. Testing at lower temperatures resulted in smaller e0 and consequently higher strengths and fracture strains（ef）. The tensile behavior was examined from the perspective of austenite stability of the micro-duplex stainless steels with the different Ni and Mn contents.

Environmentally adaptive reshaping of plant photomorphogenesis by karrikin and strigolactone signaling

Coordinated morphogenic adaptation of growing plants is critical for their survival and propagation under fluctuating environments.Plant morphogenic responses to light and warm temperatures,termed photomorphogenesis and thermomorphogenesis,respectively,have been extensively studied in recent decades.During photomorphogenesis,plants actively reshape their growth and developmental patterns to cope with changes in light regimes.Accordingly,photomorphogenesis is closely associated with diverse growth hormonal cues.Notably,accumulating evidence indicates that light-directed morphogenesis is profoundly affected by two recently identified phytochemicals,karrikins(KARs)and strigolactones(SLs).KARs and SLs are structurally related butenolides acting as signaling molecules during a variety of developmental steps,including seed germination.Their receptors and signaling mediators have been identified,and associated working mechanisms have been explored using gene-deficient mutants in various plant species.Of particular interest is that the KAR and SL signaling pathways play important roles in environmental responses,among which their linkages with photomorphogenesis are most comprehensively studied during seedling establishment.In this review,we focus on how the phytochemical and light signals converge on the optimization of morphogenic fitness.We also discuss molecular mechanisms underlying the signaling crosstalks with an aim of developing potential ways to improve crop productivity under climate changes.

Prevalence and risk factors of wound complications after transtibial amputation in patients with diabetic foot

BACKGROUND Diabetic foot(DMF)complications are common and are increasing in incidence.Risk factors related to wound complications are yet to be established after transtibial amputation under the diagnosis of DMF infection.AIM To analyze the prognosis and risk factors related to wound complications after transtibial amputation in patients with diabetes.METHODS This retrospective cohort study included seventy-two patients with DMF complications who underwent transtibial amputation between April 2014 and March 2023.The groups were categorized based on the occurrence of wound complications,and we compared demographic data between the complication group and the non-complication group to analyze risk factors.Moreover,a multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors.RESULTS The average follow-up period was 36.2 months.Among the 72 cases,31(43.1%)had wound complications.Of these,12 cases(16.7%)received further treatment,such as debridement,soft tissue stump revision,and re-amputation at the proximal level.In a group that required further management due to wound complications after transtibial amputation,the hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)level was 9.32,while the other group that did not require any treatment had a 7.54 HbA1c level.The prevalence of a history of kidney transplantation with wound complications after transtibial amputation surgery in DMF patients was significantly greater than in cases without wound complications(P=0.02).Other factors did not show significant differences.CONCLUSION Approximately 43.1%of the patients with transtibial amputation surgery experienced wound complications,and 16.7%required additional surgical treatment.High HbA1c levels and kidney transplant history are risk factors for postoperative wound complications.
