A systematic review of occupational exposure to respirable coal mine dust(RCMD)in the *** industry

Cumulative inhalation of respirable coal mine dust(RCMD)can lead to severe lung diseases,including coal worker's pneu-moconiosis(CWP),silicosis,mixed dust pneumoconiosis,dust-related diffuse fibrosis(DDF),and progressive massive fibrosis(PMF).Statistics from the number of reported cases showed a significant decrease in the progression of respiratory diseases in the ***,an unexpected increase in the number of CWP cases was reported in the late *** date,there has been no comprehensive systematic review to assess all contributing factors to the resurgence of CWP *** study aims to investigate the effects of various mining parameters on the prevalence of CWP in coal mines.A systematic review using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis(PRISMA)method was conducted to investigate the health effects of RCMD exposure and identify the factors that may contribute to the recent resurgence of CWP *** systematic review yielded a total of 401 papers,which were added to the *** total number of 148 and 208 papers were excluded from the database in the process of screening and eligibility,***,18 papers were considered for data selection and full-text *** review revealed that factors including geographic location,mine size,mining operation type,coal-seam thickness,coal rank,changes in mining practices,technology advancement,and engi-neering dust control practices are contributing to the recent resurgence of CWP among coal ***,the evidence for root causes is limited owing to the methodological constraints of the studies;therefore,further detailed studies are needed.

Tocotrienol isoforms:The molecular mechanisms underlying their effects in cancer therapy and their implementation in clinical trials

Tocotrienols are found in a variety of natural sources,like rice bran,annatto seeds and palm oil,and have been shown to have several health-promoting properties,particularly against chronic diseases such as *** incidence of cancer is rapidly increasing around the world,not only a result of continued aging and population growth,but also due to the adoption of aspects of the Western lifestyle,such as high-fat diets and low-physical *** literature provides strong evidence that tocotrienols are able to inhibit the growth of various cancers,including breast,lung,ovarian,prostate,liver,brain,colon,myeloma and pancreatic *** findings,along with the reported safety profile of tocotrienols in healthy human volunteers,encourage further research into these compounds’potential use in cancer prevention and *** current review provided detailed information about the molecular mechanisms of action of different tocotrienol isoforms in various cancer models and evaluated the potential therapeutic effects of different vitamin E analogues on important cancer hallmarks,such as cellular proliferation,apoptosis,angiogenesis and ***/PubMed and Scopus databases were used to identify recently published articles that investigated the anticancer effects of vitamin E derivatives in various types of cancer in vitro and in vivo along with clinical evidence of adjuvant chemopreventive *** an overview of pre-clinical studies,we describe several completed and ongoing clinical trials that are paving the way for the successful implementation of tocotrienols in cancer chemotherapy.

Triaxial shear behavior of a cement-treated sand——gravel mixture

A number of parameters,*** content,cement type,relative density,and grain size distribution,can influence the mechanical behaviors of cemented *** the present study,a series of conventional triaxial compression tests were conducted on a cemented poorly graded sandegravel mixture containing 30% gravel and 70% sand in both consolidated drained and undrained *** cement used as the cementing agent was added to the soil at 0%,1%,2%,and 3%(dry weight) of sandegravel *** were prepared at 70% relative density and tested at confining pressures of 50 kPa,100 kPa,and150 *** of the results with other studies on well graded gravely sands indicated more dilation or negative pore pressure in poorly graded *** failure envelopes determined using zero Skempton’s pore pressure coefficient (= 0) criterion were consistent with the drained *** absorption potential was higher in drained condition than undrained condition,suggesting that more energy was required to induce deformation in cemented soil under drained *** absorption increased with increase in cement content under both drained and undrained conditions.

Methotrexate(MTX)is a folate antagonist drug used for several diseases,such as cancers,various malignancies,rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and inflammatory bowel *** to its structural features,including the presence of two carboxylic acid groups and its low native fluorescence,there are some challenges to develop analytical methods for its *** is metabolized to 7-hydroxymethotrexate(7-OH-MTX),2,4-diamino-N10-methylpteroic acid(DAMPA),and the active MTX polyglutamates(MTXPGs)in the liver,intestine,and red blood cells(RBCs),***,the drug has a narrow therapeutic range;hence,its therapeutic drug monitoring(TDM)is necessary to regulate the pharmacokinetics of the drug and to decrease the risk of *** to environmental toxicity of MTX;its sensitive,fast and low cost determination in workplace environments is of great interest.A large number of methodologies including high performance liquid chromatography equipped with UVevisible,fluorescence,or electrochemical detection,liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy,capillary electrophoresis,UVevisible spectrophotometry,and electrochemical methods have been developed for the quantitation of MTX and its metabolites in pharmaceutical,biological,and environmental *** paper will attempt to review several published methodologies and the instrumental conditions,which have been applied to measure MTX and its metabolites within the last decade.

Efficient method for wind velocity estimation and power-extraction maximization using a fourth-order Luenberger observer in a wind-energy-conversion system

This paper proposes an advanced method for estimating numerous parameters in a wind-energy-conversion system with high precision,especially in a transient state,including the rotation speed and mechanical torque of the turbine as well as wind *** suggested approach is designed into two ***,a fourth-order Luenberger observer is proposed to take into account the significant fluctuations of the mechanical torque that can be caused by wind *** observer provides an accurate estimate of speed and mechanical torque in all weather conditions and especially when the wind is *** the same time,the wind velocity is calculated using the Luenberger observer outputs and a model of the mechanical power generated by the ***,these estimated parameters are exploited as input in a maximum-power-point tracking(MPPT)algorithm using the tip-speed ratio(TSR)to improve the sensorless strategy *** results were performed using MATLAB®/Simulink®for both wind gust and real wind *** have verified that for wind gusts with jumps ranging from 3 to 7 m/s,the new observer manages to better follow the rotation speed and the torque of the turbine compared to a usual *** addition,we demonstrated that by applying the proposed estimator in the improved TSR-MPPT strategy,it is possible to extract 3.3%more energy compared to traditional approaches.

Wavelet networks for reducing the envelope fluctuations in WirelessMan-OFDM systems

The IEEE 802.16d standard specified Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing （OFDM） modulation for the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access （WiMAX） physical layer. However, the main weakness of OFDM is the high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio （PAPR）. In this paper, we present two new approaches based on Wavelet Networks （WNs） for reducing the PAPR in the fixed WiMAX system. The training data is obtained from the ACE-AGP algorithm. The results of the simulations show the effec- tiveness of the proposed schemes even for high order modulation such as 64-QAM. Furthermore, the proposals allow reduction in the complexity and convergence time in comparison with other methods. 2016 Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Neural network control for earthquake structural vibration reduction using MRD

Structural safety of building particularly that are intended for exposure to strong earthquake loads are designed and equipped with high technologies of control to ensure as possible as its protection against this brutal load. One of these technologies used in the protection of structures is the semi-active control using a Magneto Rheological Damper device. But this device need an adequate controller with a robust algorithm of current or tension adjustment to operate which is further discussed in the following of this paper. In this study, a neural network controller is proposed to control the MR damper to eliminate vibrations of 3-story scaled structure exposed to Tohoku 2011 and Boumerdes 2003 earthquakes. The proposed controller is derived from a linear quadratic controller designed to control an MR damper installed in the first floor of the structure. Equipped with a feedback law the proposed control is coupled to a clipped optimal algorithm to adapt the current tension required to the MR damper adjustment. To evaluate the performance control of the proposed design controller, two numerical simulations of the controlled structure and uncontrolled structure are illustrated and compared.

This paper presents a comprehensive model for selecting optimal sites for geothermal heated greenhouses in the agricultural *** research involves two main components:assessing the geothermal energy resource using geological,geochemical and geophysical indicators;and developing a siting model based on fuzzy logic that considers technical,environmental and socio-economic fac*** study focuses on East Azerbaijan province in Iran-a cold *** results indicate that~3.24%of the total area of the province is suitable for constructing geothermal greenhouses,resulting in potential savings of~148000 and 745978 m3 of natural gas in areas with high and very high suitability,respectively.

A better understanding of the bonding and aggregation processes occurring between carbon nanomaterials and metal oxide particles in aqueous solutions is important in the development of novel nanosolids for applications in the areas of sensor development,highly conductive paint,nanotube alignment,polymer composites,Li-ion batteries,and many other *** current investigation reviews these processes and presents a detailed description of the aggregation processes occurring between carbon nanomaterials and metal oxide particles(metals)in various aqueous *** results indicate that the charge attraction between the particles results in a strong homogeneous bonding that occurs within the aqueous solution and for the first time demonstrate and describe the aggregation process of these *** relative importance of many parameters that impact the aggregation process is identified and discussed,and guidelines for controlling the aggregation process are *** is a simple and cost-effective process to manufacture a novel nano-solid based on carbon nanomaterial and metal *** addition,the process is easy to scale up and *** methodology could lead to many significant applications as well as commercialization.

Microwave Tunneling and Robust Information Transfer Based on Parity-Time-Symmetric Absorber-Emitter Pairs

Robust signal transfer in the form of electromagnetic waves is of fundamental importance in modern technology,yet its operation is often challenged by unwanted modifications of the channel connecting transmitter and ***-time-(PT-)symmetric systems,combining active and passive elements in a balanced form,provide an interesting route in this ***,we demonstrate a PT-symmetric microwave system operating in the extreme case in which the channel is shorted through a small reactance,which acts as a nearly impenetrable obstacle,and it is therefore expected to induce large reflections and poor *** placing a gain element behind the obstacle,and a balanced lossy element in front of it,we observe full restoration of information and overall transparency to an external observer,despite the presence of the *** theory,simulations,and experiments unambiguously demonstrate stable and robust wave tunneling and information transfer supported by PT symmetry,opening opportunities for efficient communication through channels with dynamic changes,active filtering,and active metamaterial technology.
