Neurobiology of Neuronal Network Alteration in Intellectual Disability Related to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

The molecular and cellular mechanisms by which alcohol produces its deleterious effects on neuronal networks are only now beginning to be understood. This review focused on alcohol-induced neurobiological alterations on neuronal network components underlying information processing, for further understanding of intellectual disability related to FASD. Abnormal neurodevelopmental events related to alcohol-damaged fetal brain included neurogenesis inhibition, aberrant migration, impaired differentiation, exacerbated apoptosis, impaired axon outgrowth and branching altering synaptogenesis and synaptic plasticity, abnormal GABAergic interneurons triggering synaptic inhibitory/excitatory imbalance, reduced myelinogenesis causing injured white matter in prefrontal lobe and atrophied corpus callosum compromising interhemispheric information transfer, the whole compromising neuronal network scaffolding which may lead to biased information processing with deficits in executive function. What added to these abnormalities are smaller gray matter and reduced hippocampus, resulting in cognition and memory failures. As a whole, these developmental disorders may underlie intellectual disability related to FASD. In rodents, these neuronal network components matured mainly during the second and third trimesters equivalents of human gestation. Transferability of results from animal to human was also discussed. It was hoped that the understanding of alcohol-induced neuronal networks failure mechanisms during the developing brain may lay a foundation for prospective new treatments and interventions.

Dyslipidemia is a disorder where abnormally lipid concentrations circulate in the bloodstream. The disorder is common in type 2 diabetics (T2D) and is linked with T2D comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular disease. Dyslipidemia in T2D is typically characterized by elevated plasma triglyceride and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. There is a significant gap in the literature regarding dyslipidemia in rural parts of Africa, where lipid profiles may not be captured through routine surveillance. This study aimed to characterize the prevalence and demo-graphic profile of dyslipidemia in T2D in the rural community of Ganadougou, Mali. We performed a cross-sectional study of 104 subjects with T2D in Ganadougou between November 2021 and March 2022. Demographic and lipid profiles were collected through cross-sectional surveys and serological analyses. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia in T2D patients was 87.5% (91/104), which did not differ by sex (P = .368). High low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was the most common lipid abnormality (78.9%, [82/104]). Dyslipidemia was associated with age and hypertension status (P = .013 and.036, respectively). High total and high LDL-C parameters were significantly associated with hypertension (P = .029 and .006, respectively). In low-resource settings such as rural Mali, there is a critical need to improve infrastructure for routine dyslipidemia screening to guide its prevention and intervention approaches. The high rates of dyslipidemia observed in Gandadougou, consistent with concomitant increases in cardiovascular diseases in Africa suggest that lipid profile assessments should be incorporated into routine medical care for T2D patients in African rural settings.

Trauma to the external genitalia by tearing is rare. We report the case of a 30-year-old patient, admitted to the emergency room for trauma of the external genitalia by traction following a blow and intentional injury. The authors highlight the lesions that can occur during this type of trauma and insist on the systematic search for urethral and cavernous lesions. Conclusion: Trauma to the external genitalia by intentional assault and battery is rare in our context. They occur most often in a young person and are frequently associated with damage to the corpora cavernosa and urethra.

Fusarivirus accessory helicases present an evolutionary link for viruses infecting plants and fungi

A significant number of mycoviruses have been identified that are related to plant viruses,but their evolutionary relationships are largely unexplored.A fusarivirus,Rhizoctonia solani fusarivirus 4(RsFV4),was identified in phytopathogenic fungus Rhizoctonia solani(***)strain XY74 co-infected by an ***4 had a genome of 10,833 nt(excluding the poly-A tail),and consisted of four non-overlapping open reading frames(ORFs).ORF1 encodes an 825 aa protein containing a conserved helicase domain(Hel1).ORF3 encodes 1550 aa protein with two conserved domains,namely an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase(RdRp)and another helicase(Hel2).The ORF2 and ORF4 likely encode two hypothetical proteins(520 and 542 aa)with unknown *** phylogenetic analysis based on Hel2 and RdRp suggest that RsFV4 was positioned within the fusarivirus group,but formed an independent branch with three previously reported fusariviruses of ***,the Hel1 and its relatives were phylogenetically closer to helicases of potyviruses and hypoviruses than fusariviruses,suggesting fusarivirus Hel1 formed an evolutionary link between these three virus *** finding provides evidence of the occurrence of a horizontal gene transfer or recombination event between mycoviruses and plant viruses or between *** findings are likely to enhance the understanding of virus evolution and diversity.

Appendicular Abscess: Epidemio-Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects in the General Surgery Department of the Reference Health Center of Commune III (*** CIII) of the District of Bamako

Objectives: The main goal of this study is to determine the hospital frequency of appendicular abscess, to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects and to analyze the postoperative follow-up. Methodology: This was a descriptive and analytical prospective study from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 including patients admitted to our department for appendicular abscess diagnosed pre- and or intraoperatively and confirmed to histology. Results: We collected 30 appendicular abscesses that accounted for 18.75% of emergency interventions. The 16 - 25 age group was the most represented at 53%. The average age was 24 years with extremes of 10 and 58 years. The male sex was mostly represented (60%) with a sex ratio of 1.5. The majority of our patients were students (53.3%). The main clinical signs found were abdominal pain and vomiting (100%). The pain was localized in the Right Iliac Fossa (RIF) in 80% of cases. Fever was present in all our patients with a temperature between 38˚C and 38.5˚C. The physical examination found pain with defense of the right iliac fossa in 93.3% of cases. A painful mass was present in 27 patients (90%). Treatment consisted of appendectomy with abscess drainage in all patients. Postoperative follow-up was simple in 83.3% of cases;we recorded three cases (10%) of parietal suppuration, one case of fistula (3.3%) and one death. Conclusion: Appendicular abscess is a medical-surgical emergency frequent surgery in our context because of the delay in diagnosis. It is a condition with low morbidity and mortality subject to early diagnosis and prompt and appropriate treatment.

Objectives: It was to determine the epidemiological-clinical and therapeutic aspects of acute appendicitis at the Reference Health Center of Commune III of the district of Bamako. Methodology: This was a prospective study from January 1 to December 31, 2020 including patients operated for acute appendicitis and confirmed at histology and cases of abscess and appendicular plastron. Results: We collected 60 cases of acute appendicitis. They accounted for 17.29% of surgical indications. The average age of our patients was 25.5 years. The male sex was the most represented at 63% with a sex ratio of 1.72. The Pain in the right iliac fossa was the most represented reason for consultation with 76.7%. It was at the type of bite 70% of the cases. On physical examination the defense of the right iliac fossa was present in 96.7%. Digestive signs were marked by nausea 28.4% (17 patients) and vomiting 25% (15 patients). The digital rectal exam was painful to the right of the Douglas fir in 76.7% of our patients. In biology a complete blood count (CBC) performed in all our patients has objectified hyper leukocytosis in 80% of cases. The reactive protein (CRP) performed in 36 patients was elevated with values between 18 and 46 mg/ml. The imaging performed was an abdominal ultrasound that found a roundel image of the appendix with increased size in 65%. Surgical treatment consisted of classical Mac Burney appendectomy in 54 patients (90%). The gesture performed was an appendectomy in all our patients. All our appendectomy parts were sent for pathological examination. This examination classified the parts as non-specific appendicitis in 60%, phlegmonous appendicitis in 22% and catarrhal appendicitis in 18% of cases. Surgical follow-up was simple in 98.4% (59 patients) and morbidity was marked by digestive fistula in one patient. We recorded one case of death (1.6%). Conclusion: Acute appendicitis remains the most common surgical emergency in commune III of the district of Bamako. It

Strawberry (Fragaria spp.) is one of the most important fruits classified as exotic fruits imported into Cameroon. To have an inventory of its cultivation in Cameroon, a survey study was carried out among eight farms of Fragaria spp. from January 2021 to February 2022. The plant was introduced in Cameroon in 2018. There are 13 varieties of Fragaria spp. currently cultivated. Among these 13 varieties, eleven are hybrids of Fragaria x ananassa (“Amiga”, “Amine”, “Camarosa”, “Chandler”, “Charlotte”, “Elsanta”, “Gariguette”, “Madame Moutot”, “Ostara”, “Ruby gem” and “San Andreas”), and two of the hybrids of Fragaria vesca (“Maestro” and “Mara des bois”). The cropping system, irrigation system, and type of fertilizers applied differ from one strawberry farm to another. Biofertilizers (such as mycorrhizal), inorganic and organic fertilizers are actually used to improve production. The potential annual production of strawberries from January 2021 to February 2022, estimated based on the survey data, was 21.216 tons for all growers. Among these eight production farms, the Lolodorf BIO Farm presents 6000 kg (six tons) of strawberries and 100,000 stolons (seedlings) produced, from seven varieties of Fragaria spp. cultivated, with 6 varieties which are hybrids variety Fragaria x ananassa (“Amiga”, “Amine”, “Chandler”, “Gariguette”, “Madame Moutot”, and “Ruby gem”), and one which is a hybrid of Fragaria vesca (“Mara des bois”). Certain diseases were also observed and recorded depending on the growing areas.

Seamless navigation has attracted lots of attention and many methods have been reported in the literature or made available as commercial *** process of navigation can be interpreted as a continuous movement of 3D objects from one unoccupied 3D indoor/outdoor space to *** a technical perspective,a 3D navigation model is one of the critical components that should be available to perform successful navigation.A major approach to build a unified navigation model to support seamless path computation is linking indoor navigation networks to outdoor road/street-based *** of different sources of indoor and outdoor navigation networks,the major approach fails to build up true seamless navigation *** regards to this,we propose a unified 3D space-based navigation model(U3DSNM).The presented model ensures all types of spaces for navigation(indoor,semi-indoor,semi-outdoor,and outdoor)have the same representation,management methods,and network derivation approach,thereby building up unified navigation networks to support seamless navigation paths *** model can be linked to the international standards(data models)that are also based on spaces,such as IndoorGML and the on-going version of CityGML *** navigation path planning cases show the feasibility of U3DSNM.

Experimental Study of the Voltage Quality of the Low Voltage Distribution Network: Application to the City of Bobo-Dioulasso

The electrical energy produced must be consumed at the same time, hence the need to achieve a balance between supply and demand. Therefore, the production, transport, and distribution systems together constitute an electricity network. The distribution networks are designed to deliver energy to consumers. Unacceptable voltage drops are observed in the distribution networks of developing countries such as Burkina Faso. A study was carried out on the distribution network of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. It allowed for experimentation with the “Megger MPQ1000” network analyzer to evaluate the quality of the voltage supplied to households. To this end, tests were carried out in a public distribution station and at a few subscribers in the Sarfalao district of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. These tests were used to assess the percentage of voltage drops. These values, which are higher than 8% of the nominal voltage, are not regulatory. The load curves of the consumers in the district were also drawn. Indeed, the period of the high load is between 19:00 and 23:00 Local Time (LT), while the period of the medium and low load is between 00:00 and 18:00 LT.
