BACKGROUND: Parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease (PNALD) has been common in patients who require long-term parenteral nutrition. PNALD develops in 40%-60% of infants on long-term parenteral nutrition compared with 15%-40% of adults on home parenteral nutrition for intestinal failure. The pathogenesis of PNALD is multifactorial and remains unclear There is no specific treatment. Management strategies for its prevention and treatment depend on an understanding of many risk factors. This review aims to provide an update on the pathogenesis and treatment of this disease. DATA SOURCES: A literature search was performed on the MEDliNE and Web of Science databases for articles published up to October 2011, using the keywords: parenteral nutrition associated liver disease, intestinal failure associated liver disease lipid emulsions and fish oil. The available data reported in the relevant literatures were analyzed. RESULTS: The literature search provided a huge amount of evidence about the pathogenesis and management strategies on PNALD. Currently, lack of enteral feeding, extended duration of parenteral nutrition, recurrent sepsis, and nutrient deficiency or excess may play important roles in the pathogenesis of PNALD. Recent studies found that phytosterols present as contaminants in soy-based lipid emulsions, are also an important factor in the pathogenesis. Moreover, the treatment of PNALD is discussed. CONCLUSIONS: The use of lipid emulsions, phytosterols in particular, is associated with PNALD. Management strategies for the prevention and treatment of PNALD include consideration of early enteral feeding, the use of specialized lipid emulsions such as fish oil emulsions, and isolated small bowel or combined liver and small bowel transplantation. A greater understanding of the pathogenesis of PNALD has led to promising interventions to prevent and treat this condition. Future work should aim to better understand the mechanisms of PNALD and the long-term outcomes

Endoscopic monitoring in small bowel transplantation

AIM To investigate the role of endoscopic monitoring in small bowel transplantation. METHODS This study consisted of two parts: the experimental study and clinical study. In the experimental study, white outbred pigs underwent segmental small bowel allotransplantation. The proximal and distal intestine were brought out as stomas (Thiry Vella loop). The grafts, treated with or without immunosuppression, were monitored by endoscopy via stomas. In the clinical study, a female patient with short bowel syndrome received whole small bowel allotransplantation. The graft was monitored by endoscopy via distal stoma. RESULTS The most common endoscopic findings of graft rejection following small bowel allotransplantation were mucosal erythema, erosion and ulceration. Diffuse ulceration with bleeding was seen in late phase of rejection. CONCLUSION Endoscopic monitoring is essential to small bowel transplantation.

Quantized feedback control is fundamental to system synthesis with limited communication *** sharp contrast to the existing literature on quantized control which requires an explicit dynamical model,the authors study the quadratic stabilization and performance control problems with logarithmically quantized feedback in a direct data-driven framework,where the system state matrix is not exactly known and instead,belongs to an ambiguity set that is directly constructed from a finite number of noisy system *** this end,the authors firstly establish sufficient and necessary conditions via linear matrix inequalities for the existence of a common quantized controller that achieves our control objectives over the ambiguity ***,the authors provide necessary conditions on the data for the solvability of the LMIs,and determine the coarsest quantization density via semi-definite *** theoretical results are validated through numerical examples.

Propylene carbonate(PC)-based electrolytes have exhibited significant advantages in boosting the low-temperature discharging of graphite-based li-ion ***,it is still unclear whether they can improve the charging property and suppress lithium *** this topic is challenging due to the problem of electrochemical *** overcome this issue,we introduced graphite with phase *** results show that the pouch-type full batteries using PC-based electrolyte exhibit steady performance over 500 cycles and can be reversibly charged over 30 times at-20℃ with an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.95%,while the corresponding value for the conventional ethylene carbonate(EC)-based electrolyte sample is only 31.20%.This indicates that the use of PC-based electrolyte significantly suppresses lithium plating during low-temperature *** further demonstrate that the improved performance is mainly attributed to the unique solvation structure,where PF-6more anions participate in solvation,leading to the formation of a stable F-rich solid state electrolyte interface on the graphite surface and a lower reduction tendency of li+*** work inspires new ideas for the design of PC-based electrolytes for low-temperature charging and fast-charging batteries.

In this paper, the authors study the centered waves for the two-dimensional(2D for short) pseudo-steady supersonic flow with van der Waals gas satisfied Maxwell's law around a sharp corner. In view of the initial value of the specific volume and the properties of van der Waals gas, the centered waves at the sharp corner are constructed by classification. It is shown that the supersonic incoming flow turns the sharp corner by a centered simple wave or a centered simple wave with right-contact discontinuity or a composite wave(jump-fan, fan-jump or fan-jump-fan), or a combination of waves and constant state. Moreover, the critical angle of the sharp corner corresponding to the appearance of the vacuum phenomenon is obtained.

The discourse analysis task,which focuses on understanding the semantics of long text spans,has received increasing attention in recent *** a critical component of discourse analysis,discourse relation recognition aims to identify the rhetorical relations between adjacent discourse units(e.g.,clauses,sentences,and sentence groups),called arguments,in a *** works focused on capturing the semantic interactions between arguments to recognize their discourse relations,ignoring important textual information in the surrounding ***,in many cases,more than capturing semantic interactions from the texts of the two arguments are needed to identify their rhetorical relations,requiring mining more contextual *** this paper,we propose a method to convert the RST-style discourse trees in the training set into dependency-based trees and train a contextual evidence selector on these transformed *** this way,the selector can learn the ability to automatically pick critical textual information from the context(i.e.,as evidence)for arguments to assist in discriminating their *** we encode the arguments concatenated with corresponding evidence to obtain the enhanced argument ***,we combine original and enhanced argument representations to recognize their *** addition,we introduce auxiliary tasks to guide the training of the evidence selector to strengthen its selection *** experimental results on the Chinese CDTB dataset show that our method outperforms several state-of-the-art baselines in both micro and macro F1 scores.

An air combat maneuver pattern extraction based on time series segmentation and clustering analysis

Target maneuver recognition is a prerequisite for air combat situation awareness,trajectory prediction,threat assessment and maneuver *** get rid of the dependence of the current target maneuver recognition method on empirical criteria and sample data,and automatically and adaptively complete the task of extracting the target maneuver pattern,in this paper,an air combat maneuver pattern extraction based on time series segmentation and clustering analysis is proposed by combining autoencoder,G-G clustering algorithm and the selective ensemble clustering analysis ***,the autoencoder is used to extract key features of maneuvering trajectory to remove the impacts of redundant variables and reduce the data dimension;Then,taking the time information into account,the segmentation of Maneuver characteristic time series is realized with the improved FSTS-AEGG algorithm,and a large number of maneuver primitives are extracted;Finally,the maneuver primitives are grouped into some categories by using the selective ensemble multiple time series clustering algorithm,which can prove that each class represents a maneuver *** maneuver pattern extraction method is applied to small scale air combat trajectory and can recognize and correctly partition at least 71.3%of maneuver actions,indicating that the method is effective and satisfies the requirements for engineering *** addition,this method can provide data support for various target maneuvering recognition methods proposed in the literature,greatly reduce the workload and improve the recognition accuracy.

The hybrid cascaded high-voltage direct current(HVDC)transmission system has various operation modes,and some operation modes have sharply increasing requirements for protection rapidity,while the traditional pilot differential protection(PDP)has poor rapidity,and even refuses to operate when faults occur on the DC ***,a novel pilot protection scheme based on traveling wave characteristics is ***,the adaptability of the traditional PDP applied in engineering is analyzed for different operation ***,the expressions of the forward traveling wave(FTW)and backward traveling wave(BTW)on the rectifier side and the inverter side are derived for different fault *** the theoretical derivation,the difference between the BTW and FTW on the rectifier side is less than zero,and the same is true on the inverter ***,in the event of an external fault of DC line,the difference between the BTW and FTW at nearfault terminal protection installation point is greater than ***,by summing over the product of the difference between BTW and FTW of the rectifier side and that of the inverter side,the fault identification criterion is *** simulation results show that the proposed pilot protection scheme can quickly and reliably identify the short-circuit faults of DC line in different operation modes.
