Facet-dependent transformation and toxicity of nanoscale zinc oxide in the synthetic saliva

The nanoscale zinc oxide(n-ZnO)was used in food packages due to its superior antibac terial activity,resulting in potential intake of n-ZnO through the digestive system,wherein n-ZnO interacted with *** recent,facet engineering,a technique for controlling the exposed facets,was applied to n-ZnO,whereas risk of n-ZnO with specific exposed facets in saliva was *** nanoflakes(ZnO-0001)and nanoneedles(ZnO-1010)with the pri mary exposed facets of{0001}and{1010}respectively were prepared in this study,investigat ing stability and toxicity of ZnO-0001 and ZnO-1010 in synthetic *** ZnO-0001 and ZnO-1010 partially transformed into amorphous Zn_(3)(PO_(4))_(2)within 1 hr in the saliva even containing orgnaic components,forming a ZnO-Zn_(3)(PO_(4))_(2)core-shell *** less,ZnO-1010 relative to ZnO-0001 would likely transform into Zn_(3)(PO_(4))_(2),being attributed to superior dissolution of{1010}facet due to its lower vacancy formation energy(1.15 eV than{0001}facet(3.90 eV)).The toxicity of n-ZnO to Caco-2 cells was also dependent on the primary exposed facet;ZnO-0001 caused cell toxicity through oxidative stress,whereas ZnO-1010 resulted in lower cells viability than ZnO-0001 through oxidative stress and mem brane *** functional theory calculations illustrated that·O_(2)^(-)was formed and released on{1010}facet,yet O_(2)^(2-)instead of·O_(2)^(-)was generated on{0001}facet,leading to low oxidative stress from *** findings demonstrated that stability and toxicity of n-ZnO were dependent on the primary exposed facet,improving our understanding o health risk of nanomaterials.

Electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2) converts intermittent renewable electricity into value-added liquid products with an enticing prospect,but its practical application is hampered due to the lack of high-performance ***,we elaborately design and develop strongly coupled nanosheets composed of Ag nanoparticles and Sn-SnO_(2) grains,designated as Ag/Sn-SnO_(2) nanosheets(NSs),which possess optimized electronic structure,high electrical conductivity,and more accessible *** a result,such a catalyst exhibits unprecedented catalytic performance toward CO_(2)-to-formate conversion with near-unity faradaic efficiency(≥90%),ultrahigh partial current density(2,000 mA cm^(−2)),and superior long-term stability(200 mA cm^(−2),200 h),surpassing the reported catalysts of CO_(2) electroreduction to ***,in situ attenuated total reflection-infrared spectra combined with theoretical calculations revealed that electron-enriched Sn sites on Ag/Sn-SnO_(2)NSs not only promote the formation of*OCHO and alleviate the energy barriers of*OCHO to*HCOOH,but also impede the desorption of H*.Notably,the Ag/Sn-SnO_(2)NSs as the cathode in a membrane electrode assembly with porous solid electrolyte layer reactor can continuously produce~0.12 M pure HCOOH solution at 100 mA cm^(−2)over 200 *** work may inspire further development of advanced electrocatalysts and innovative device systems for promoting practical application of producing liquid fuels from CO_(2).

EuCd_(2)As_(2)was theoretically predicted to be a minimal model of Weyl semimetals with a single pair of Weyl points in the ferromagnet ***,the heavily p-doped Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)crystals in previous experiments prevent direct identification of the semimetal ***,we present a comprehensive magneto-transport study of high-quality Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)crystals with ultralow bulk carrier density(10^(13)cm^(-3)).In contrast to the general expectation of a Weyl semimetal phase,Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)shows insulating behavior in both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic states as well as surface-dominated conduction from band ***,the application of a dc bias current can dramatically modulate the resistance by over one order of magnitude,and induce a periodic resistance oscillation due to the geometric *** nonlinear transport results from the high nonequilibrium state induced by an electrical field near the band *** results suggest an insulating phase in Eu Cd_(2)As_(2)and put a strong constraint on the underlying mechanism of anomalous transport properties in this system.

The metallurgical quality control of magnesium(Mg)and Mg alloys in melting process is required to ensure a satisfied mechanical and corrosion performance,while the typical used steel crucible introduces impurities and interfacial interaction during melting ***,a systematic study about impurities diffusion and interfacial interaction between molten Mg and steel is *** the present study,the interfacial reaction between molten AZ91D Mg alloy and mild steel during melting process was investigated with the melting temperatures of 700℃,750℃ and 800℃.The results show that Al(Fe,Mn)intermetallic layer is the intermetallic primarily formed at the interfaces of AZ91D melt and mild ***,Al_(8)(Mn,Fe)5is indexed between Al(Fe,Mn)and ***_(3)C appears between the mild steel and Al(Fe,Mn)at 700℃ and 750℃,but absent at 800℃ due to the increased solubility of carbon in Mg *** is found that the growth of the intermetallic layer is controlled by diffusion mechanism,and Al and Mn are the dominant diffusing species in the whole interfacial reaction *** measuring the thickness of different layers,the growth constant was *** increases from 1.89(±0.03)×10^(-12)m^(2)·s^(-1)at 700℃ to 3.05(±0.05)×10^(-12)m^(2)·s^(-1)at 750℃,and 5.18(±0.05)×10^(-12)m^(2)·s^(-1)at 800℃.Meanwhile,the content of Fe is linearly increased in AZ91D with the increase of holding time at 700℃ and 750℃,while it shows a significantly increment after holding for 8 h at 800℃,indicating holding temperature is more crucial to determine the Fe content of AZ91D than holding time.

The inadequate quantity of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))in cancer cells promptly results in the constrained success of chemodynamic therapy(CDT).Significant efforts made throughout the years;nevertheless,researchers are still facing the great challenge of designing a CDT agent and securing H_(2)O_(2) supply within the tumor *** this study,taking advantage of H_(2)O_(2) level maintenance mechanism in cancer cells,a nanozyme-based bimetallic metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)tandem reactor is fabricated to elevate intracellular H_(2)O_(2) levels,thereby enhancing *** addition,under nearinfrared excitation,the upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs)loaded into the MOFs can perform photocatalysis and generate hydrogen,which increases cellular susceptibility to radicals induced from H_(2)O_(2),inhibits cancer cell energy,causes DNA damages and induces tumor cell apoptosis,thus improving CDT therapeutic efficacy *** proposed nanozyme-based bimetallic MOFs-mediated CDT and UCNPs-mediated hydrogen therapy act as combined therapy with high efficacy and low toxicity.

In this work,aramid nanoparticles(ANPs)were prepared in dimethyl formamide(DMF)solution containing high impact polystyrene(HIPS)via a bottom-up *** electron microscopy(TEM)images showed that the obtained ANPs were evenly distributed in the HIPS matrix without any *** composition of the ANPs,i.e.,poly(p-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine)(PPTA),was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and X-ray diffractometer(XRD).The ANP/HIPS composites,obtained after ethanol precipitation,were added to neat HIPS as fillers to fabricate ANP/HIPS composite *** surface roughness and the glass transition temperature(T_g)of the sheets were characterized by atomic force microscope(AFM)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),*** with neat HIPS,the mechanical properties of the composite sheet were significantly improved,and the young's modulus increased from 246.55 MPa to 2025.12 MPa,the tensile strength increased from 3.07 MPa to 29.76 MPa,and the toughness increased from 0.32 N/mm^2 to 3.92 N/mm^2,with an increase rate of 721%,869%and 1125%,***,the thermal stability of the composites improved with the increase in ANP content.

The highly efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of NHC·VOCl_(3) containing symmetrical or unsymmetrical Nheterocyclic carbene(NHC) ligands by the transmetallation reaction of NHC·AgCl with VOCl_(3).The total isolated yield of VOCl_(3)[1,3-(2,4,6-Me_(3)C_(6)H_(2))_(2)(NCH=)_(2)C:](V4') reached 86% by transmetallation reaction,which is much higher than that(48%) by direct coordination *** methodology has also been used to synthesize the novel vanadium complexes containing unsymmetrical NHC ligands of VOCl_(3)[PhCH_(2)NCH=CHNR)C:](V5',R=2,4,6-Me_(3)C_(6)H_(2);V6',R=2,4-Me_(2)-6-Ph-C_(6)H_(2);V7',R=2,6-^(i)Pr_(2)-C_(6)H_(3)) with high yield,which could not be obtained by direct coordination *** catalytic activity and copolymerization ability would be improved by introducing unsymmetrical NHC ligands due to their less steric bulky *** vanadium complex V5' containing unsymmetrical NHC ligand exhibits higher catalytic activity(3.7×10^(5)g_(copolymer)·mol^(-1) of V·h^(-1)) than that of V4' containing symmetrical NHC ***,the higher propylene incorporation ratio(45.6 mol%) in the copolymers of ethylene with propylene could be obtained by using V5' than that(39.9%) by using V4'.The results would provide a highly efficient strategy for the synthesis of early transition metal complexes containing versitile NHC ligands,affording the catalyst with both high catalytic activity and copolymerization ability for the synthesis of high performance polyolefin elastomers.

Chaos,occurring in a deterministic system,has permeated various fields such as mathematics,physics,and life ***,the prediction of chaotic time series has received widespread attention and made signifi-cant ***,many problems,such as high computational complexity and difficulty in hardware im-plementation,could not be solved by existing *** overcome the problems,we employ the chaotic system of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL)mutual coupling network to generate chaotic time series through optical system simulation and experimentation in this ***,a photonic reservoir com-puting based on VCSEL,along with a feedback loop,is proposed for the short-term prediction of the chaotic time *** relationship between the prediction difficulty of the reservoir computing(RC)system and the differ-ence in complexity of the chaotic time series has been studied with ***,the attention coefficient of injection strength and feedback strength,prediction duration,and other factors on system perfor-mance are considered in both simulation and *** use of the RC system to predict the chaotic time series generated by actual chaotic systems is significant for expanding the practical application scenarios of the RC.

The diversity of cell types in the brain and how these change during different developmental stages,remains largely *** life cycle of insects is short and goes through 4 distinct stages including embryonic,larval,pupal,and adult *** postembryonic life,the larval brain transforms into a mature adult version after *** silkworm,Bombyx mori,is a lepidopteran model ***,we characterized the brain cell repertoire of larval and adult *** by obtaining 50708 single-cell *** and 12 cell clusters from larval and adult brains were assigned based on marker genes,*** cell types include Kenyon cells,optic lobe cells,monoaminergic neurons,surface glia,and astrocyte *** further assessed the cell type compositions of larval and adult *** found that the transition from larva to adult resulted in great expansion of glial *** glial cell accounted for 49.8%of adult midbrain *** to flies and ants,the mushroom body kenyon cell is insufficient in ***,which accounts for 5.4%and 3.6%in larval and adult brains,*** of neuropeptide expression showed that the abundance and specificity of expression varied among individual ***,we found that ion transport peptide was specifically expressed in glial cells of larval and adult *** cell atlas dataset provides an important resource to explore cell diversity,neural circuits and genetic profiles.
