Effects of electroacupuncture at Guanyuan(CV 4)or Sanyinjiao(SP 6)on hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis and spatial learning and memory in female SAMP8 mice

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture(EA) at the Guanyuan(CV 4) or Sanyinjiao(SP 6) acupoints on the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary(HPO) axis and spatial learning and memory in female ***: Nine-month-old female mice with senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8(SAMP8)were divided into three groups: the disease model,EA-Guanyuan and EA-Sanyinjiao groups. Concurrently, 9-month old female mice with senescence-accelerated mouse resistance 1(SAMR1)were set as the control model group. The two treatment groups were given the same pattern of EA stimulation. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and Serum estradiol levels in the Hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to determinethe HPO axis function level. Spatial learning and memory were assessed by the Morris Water Maze(MWM) ***:(a) HPO axis: compared with the control model group, the disease model group displayed a decrease in E2 levels(P < 0.01), and an increase in Gn RH, LH and FSH levels(P < 0.01). E2 levels were increased in EA treatment groups compared with the disease model group(P < 0.05). In contrast,Gn RH and LH and FSH levels were reduced(P <0.05). EA-Sanyinjiao group was superior than EA-Guanyuan group on increasing E2 and declining Gn RH levels(P < 0.01).(b) The MWM test demonstrated that the response latency in the EA-Sanyinjiao treatment group declined from day 2 to day5 compared with the disease model group(P <0.05), whereas the EA-Guanyuan treatment group showed no significant ***: EA can regulate hormone(E2, FSH,LH, Gn RH) levels in the HPO axis and the spatial learning and memory ability in female SAMP8 mice. Moreover, this effect may have been more pronounced in the EA-Sanyinjiao group than the EA-Guanyuan group. Longitudinal surface cracks of thin slabs

Based on the production practice of medium carbon thin slabs in the CSP plant,the reasons and influencing factors for the formation of longitudinal cracks were investigated,and some industrial measures were taken to eliminate the *** results show that the efficient solutions to reduce longitudinal cracks are improving the performance of the mold powder,stabilizing the mold heat flux,and maintaining a proper taper of the mold during *** pouring temperature and secondary cooling also play important roles in preventing longitudinal surface cracks.

蠕变特性和长期强度是红砂岩地区岩体工程安全评价的关键要素,饱水软化效应对红砂岩蠕变特性和长期强度具有重要影响.采用全自动岩石三轴压缩伺服流变仪,开展天然与饱水红砂岩的三轴压缩试验和三轴压缩蠕变试验.试验结果表明:峰值强度、弹性模量和蠕变破坏应力因饱水软化效应而降低,围压对其降幅有削弱作用,蠕变破坏应力与峰值强度的比值在0.75~0.98之间;饱水软化效应能增强蠕变瞬时变形,减弱蠕变变形及蠕变应变速率;环向应变比轴向应变更早进入稳态蠕变阶段和加速蠕变阶段;稳态蠕变速率与偏压的变化关系符合指数函数关系;长期强度因饱水软化作用而降低,却因围压增加而增大,长期强度与峰值强度的比值在0.62~0.92之间;裂纹损伤应力与长期强度相差较大,裂纹损伤应力视为长期强度有待进一步考究.

Demethylation of tumor necrosis factor-α converting enzyme promoter associated with high hepatitis B e antigen level in chronic hepatitis B

AIM: To evaluate tumor necrosis factor-α converting enzyme(TACE) methylation status in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB).METHODS: Eighty patients with hepatitis B e antigen(HBe Ag)-positive CHB, 80 with HBe Ag-negative CHB, and 40 healthy controls(HCs) were randomly enrolled in this study. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells and methylation status of TACE promoter was determined by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction. The clinical and laboratory parameters were ***: One hundred and thirty of 160 patients with CHB(81.25%) and 38 of 40 HCs(95%) displayed TACE promoter methylation. The difference was significant(χ2 = 4.501, P 0.05). In the HBe Ag-positive group, TACE methylation frequency was significantly negatively correlated with HBe Ag(r =-0.602, P < 0.01), alanine aminotransferase(r =-0.461, P < 0.01) and aspartate aminotransferase(r =-0.329, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Patients with HBe Ag-positive CHB have aberrant demethylation of the TACE promoter, which may potentially serve as a biomarker for HBe Ag seroconversion.

Developing transition metal oxides(TMOs)with high energy,power,and long cycle lifetime for elec-tric energy storage devices remains a critical challenge to ***,we demonstrate a facile method that enables in-situ transformation of nickel cobalt oxide nanowire arrays(NiCoO NWA)into hierarchical nanowire-nanosheet arrays(ac-NiCoO NWSA)for enhanced energy storage *** specifically,the method leads to formation of atomically thin nanosheets(only 2.0 nm)and creates abundant an-tisite defects and oxygen *** to these merits,the as-prepared ac-NiCoO NWSA electrode exhibits over five-fold higher specific capacity,superior rate capability(up to 100 A/g),and excellent cy-cling stability of 10,000 cycles at 50 A/g in alkaline electrolyte compared to pristine NiCoO *** functional theory(DFT)simulations elucidate the electrochemical activity enhancement mechanism of the ***,our method triggers similar structural reconstruction phenomenon on other TMOs including ZnCo-,CoMn-and ZnNiCo-oxides,proving the universality of the *** findings provide a general method towards simultaneously manipulating the micro-morphologies and defects of TMOs for advanced energy storage devices.

Job Stress, Gene Polymorphism of β_2-AR, and Prevalence of Hypertension

Objective To study the interactive effect of job stress and genetic susceptibility （or gene polymorphism） on hypertension. Methods A cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted in 452 workers from a thermal power plant in China. Extrinsic effort, occupational reward, and over-commitment were measured. Hypertensive patients were defined by three phases of screening, reexamination, and final diagnosis. β2-AR genotypes and allele frequencies at amino acid positions 16 （β2-AR-16： Arg→Gly） and 27 （β2-AR-27： Gln→Glu） were identified by PCR-RFLE Results Job stress was related with the prevalence of hypertension in males （P〈0.05）, whereas no significant relationship was found in females （P〉0.05）. Differences in genotypes and allele frequencies of the β2-AR-16 were statistically significant between the hypertension and control groups （P〈0.05）, whereas those of β2-AR-27 were not （P〉0.05）. The prevalence of hypertension was higher in individuals carrying Gly16 allele than in those carrying Arg16 allele of the high job stress group （P〈0.01 or 0.05）. Conclusion High job stress and polymorphism of β2-AR-16 have an interactive effect on the prevalence of hypertension in male workers.

Polymorphism of thymidylate synthase gene associated with its protein expression in human colon cancer

AIM： To correlate the polymorphisms in the 5＇-untranslated region with thymidylate synthase （TS） protein expression in Han Chinese colonic neoplasms. METHODS： Adenocarcinoma samples were from 68 patients who received no treatment before surgery. Tandem repeat length of TS gene was determined by PCR amplification of genomic DNA. Intratumoral TS protein expression was studied immunohistochemically in corresponding sections from paraffin-embedded primary loci. Immunoreactivity was semiquantitatively evaluated by immunoreactivity score （IRS）. RESULTS： Double-（2R） and triple-repeated （3R） sequences of the TS gene were found in the cancer tissues. Three genotypes of TS were found： 2R/2R （n = 6）, 2R/3R （n = 22） and 3R/3R （n = 40）. Patients who were homozygous for triple-repeated （3R/3R） sequences showed significantly higher IRS of TS than patients who were homozygous for double-repeated （2R/2R） sequences or heterozygous patients （2R/3R）： 5.73 ±3.25 vs 2.17 ± 1.47 or 3.77 ±2.64, P = 0.008 or P = 0.015. But no statistical significance of IRS in cancer tissues was observed between 2R/3R genotype and 2R/2R genotype. CONCLUSION： There is a relationship between TS genotype and TS protein expression in clinical specimens. The data might offer an advantage for selection of Chinese cancer patients to receive fluoropyrimidines treatment.
