Polarizable Additive with Intermediate Chelation Strength for Stable Aqueous Zinc‑Ion Batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are promising due to inherent safety,low cost,low toxicity,and high volumetric capacity.However,issues of dendrites and side reactions between zinc metal anode and the electrolyte need to be solved for extended storage and cycle life.Here,we proposed that an electrolyte additive with an intermediate chelation strength of zinc ion—strong enough to exclude water molecules from the zinc metal-electrolyte interface and not too strong to cause a significant energy barrier for zinc ion dissociation—can benefit the electrochemical stability by suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction,overpotential growth,and den-drite formation.Penta-sodium diethylene-triaminepentaacetic acid salt was selected for such a purpose.It has a suitable chelating ability in aqueous solutions to adjust solvation sheath and can be readily polarized under electrical loading conditions to further improve the passivation.Zn||Zn symmetric cells can be stably operated over 3500 h at 1 mA cm^(-2).Zn||NH4V4O10 full cells with the additive show great cycling stability with 84.6%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1 A g^(-1).Since the additive not only reduces H2 evolution and corrosion but also modifies Zn2+diffusion and deposition,highlyreversible Zn electrodes can be achieved as verified by the experimental results.Our work offers a practical approach to the logical design of reliable electrolytes for high-performance aqueous batteries.

Comparison between sepsis-induced coagulopathy and sepsis-associated coagulopathy criteria in identifying sepsis-associated disseminated intravascular coagulation

BACKGROUND:Disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC)is associated with increased mortality in sepsis patients.In this study,we aimed to assess the clinical ability of sepsis-induced coagulopathy(SIC)and sepsis-associated coagulopathy(SAC)criteria in identifying overt-DIC and preDIC status in sepsis patients.METHODS:Data from 419 sepsis patients were retrospectively collected from July 2018 to December 2022.The performances of the SIC and SAC were assessed to identify overt-DIC on days 1,3,7,or 14.The SIC status or SIC score on day 1,the SAC status or SAC score on day 1,and the sum of the SIC or SAC scores on days 1 and 3 were compared in terms of their ability to identify pre-DIC.The SIC or SAC status on day 1 was evaluated as a pre-DIC indicator for anticoagulant initiation.RESULTS:On day 1,the incidences of coagulopathy according to overt-DIC,SIC and SAC criteria were 11.7%,22.0%and 31.5%,respectively.The specificity of SIC for identifying overt-DIC was significantly higher than that of the SAC criteria from day 1 to day 14(P3 had a significantly higher sensitivity(72.00%)and area under the curve(AUC)(0.69)in identifying pre-DIC than did the SIC or SAC status(sensitivity:SIC status 44.00%,SAC status 52.00%;AUC:SIC status 0.62,SAC status 0.61).The sum of the SIC scores on days 1 and 3 had a higher AUC value for identifying the pre-DIC state than that of SAC(0.79 vs.0.69,P<0.001).Favorable effects of anticoagulant therapy were observed in SIC(adjusted hazard ratio[HR]=0.216,95%confidence interval[95%CI]:0.060–0.783,P=0.018)and SAC(adjusted HR=0.146,95%CI:0.041–0.513,P=0.003).CONCLUSION:The SIC and SAC seem to be valuable for predicting overt-DIC.The sum of SIC scores on days 1 and 3 has the potential to help identify pre-DIC.

Variations in the dynein axonemal heavy chain gene,dynein axonemal heavy chain 6(DNAH6),lead to multiple morphological abnormalities of the flagella.Recent studies have reported that these deficiencies may result in sperm head deformation.However,whether DNAH6 is also involved in human acrosome biogenesis remains unknown.The purpose of this study was to investigate DNAH6 gene variants and their potential functions in the formation of defective sperm heads and flagella.Whole-exome sequencing was performed on a cohort of 375 patients with asthenoteratozoospermia from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University(Hefei,China).Hematoxylin and eosin staining,scanning electron microscopy,and transmission electron microscopy were performed to analyze the sperm morphology and ultrastructure.Immunofluorescence staining and Western blot analysis were conducted to examine the effects of genetic variants.We identified three novel deleterious variants in DNAH6 among three unrelated families.The absence of inner dynein arms and radial spokes was observed in the sperm of patients with DNAH6 variants.Additionally,deficiencies in the acrosome,abnormal chromatin compaction,and vacuole-containing sperm heads were observed in these patients with DNAH6 variants.The decreased levels of the component proteins in these defective structures were further confirmed in sperm from patients with DNAH6 variants using Western blot.After intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSl)treatment,the partner of one patient with a DNAH6 variant achieved successful pregnancy.Overall,novel variants in DNAH6 genes that contribute to defects in the sperm head and flagella were identified,and the findings indicated Icsl as an effective clinical treatment for such patients.

Development of a new Cox model for predicting long-term survival in hepatitis cirrhosis patients underwent transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts

BACKGROUND Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)placement is a procedure that can effectively treat complications of portal hypertension,such as variceal bleeding and refractory ascites.However,there have been no specific studies on predicting long-term survival after TIPS placement.AIM To establish a model to predict long-term survival in patients with hepatitis cirrhosis after TIPS.METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of 224 patients who un-derwent TIPS implantation.Through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses,various factors were examined for their ability to predict survival at 6 years after TIPS.Consequently,a composite score was formulated,encompassing the indication,shunt reasonability,portal venous pressure gradient(PPG)after TIPS,percentage decrease in portal venous pressure(PVP),indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min(ICGR15)and total bilirubin(Tbil)level.Furthermore,the performance of the newly developed Cox(NDC)model was evaluated in an in-ternal validation cohort and compared with that of a series of existing models.RESULTS The indication(variceal bleeding or ascites),shunt reasonability(reasonable or unreasonable),ICGR15,post-operative PPG,percentage of PVP decrease and Tbil were found to be independent factors affecting long-term survival after TIPS placement.The NDC model incorporated these parameters and successfully identified patients at high risk,exhibiting a notably elevated mortality rate following the TIPS procedure,as observed in both the training and validation cohorts.Additionally,in terms of predicting the long-term survival rate,the performance of the NDC model was significantly better than that of the other four models[Child-Pugh,model for end-stage liver disease(MELD),MELD-sodium and the Freiburg index of post-TIPS survival].CONCLUSION The NDC model can accurately predict long-term survival after the TIPS procedure in patients with hepatitis cirrhosis,help identify high-risk patients and guide follow-up management after TIPS impla

Objective:Epigenetic abnormalities have a critical role in breast cancer by regulating gene expression;however,the intricate interrelationships and key roles of approximately 400 epigenetic regulators in breast cancer remain elusive.It is important to decipher the comprehensive epigenetic regulatory network in breast cancer cells to identify master epigenetic regulators and potential therapeutic targets.Methods:We employed high-throughput sequencing-based high-throughput screening(HTS^(2))to effectively detect changes in the expression of 2,986 genes following the knockdown of 400 epigenetic regulators.Then,bioinformatics analysis tools were used for the resulting gene expression signatures to investigate the epigenetic regulations in breast cancer.Results:Utilizing these gene expression signatures,we classified the epigenetic regulators into five distinct clusters,each characterized by specific functions.We discovered functional similarities between BAZ2B and SETMAR,as well as CLOCK and CBX3.Moreover,we observed that CLOCK functions in a manner opposite to that of HDAC8 in downstream gene regulation.Notably,we constructed an epigenetic regulatory network based on the gene expression signatures,which revealed 8 distinct modules and identified 10 master epigenetic regulators in breast cancer.Conclusions:Our work deciphered the extensive regulation among hundreds of epigenetic regulators.The identification of 10 master epigenetic regulators offers promising therapeutic targets for breast cancer treatment.

Research on the flow stability and noise reduction characteristics of quasi-periodic elastic support skin

To enhance flow stability and reduce hydrodynamic noise caused by fluctuating pressure,a quasiperiodic elastic support skin composed of flexible walls and elastic support elements is proposed for fluid noise reduction.The arrangement of the elastic support element is determined by the equivalent periodic distance and quasi-periodic coefficient.In this paper,a dynamic model of skin in a fluid environment is established.The influence of equivalent periodic distance and quasi-periodic coefficient on flow stability is investigated.The results suggest that arranging the elastic support elements in accordance with the quasi-periodic law can effectively enhance flow stability.Meanwhile,the hydrodynamic noise calculation results demonstrate that the skin exhibits excellent noise reduction performance,with reductions of 10 dB in the streamwise direction,11 dB in the spanwise direction,and 10 dB in the normal direction.The results also demonstrate that the stability analysis method can serve as a diagnostic tool for flow fields and guide the design of noise reduction structures.

Serrated flow behavior of GH536 superalloy under different loading rates at room temperature

Serrated flow phenomenon has been widely observed among different metals due to the potential influence on their applications.Uniaxial tensile tests of nickel-based superalloy GH536 were carried out at loading rates of 0.06,0.60,3.60,and 36.00 mm·min-1at room temperature,respectively.The tensile stress–strain curves demonstrate repetitive and discontinuous yielding behavior,namely serrated flow.It is observed that the stress–strain curves were dominated by type B serration,and original annealing twin boundaries （TBs） were distorted to various degrees under comparatively different lower tensile rates.In contrast,the TBs almost disappear,and the type B serrations become smoother and regular under the higher loading rates.This phenomenon can be attributed to the interactions between TBs and dislocations during tensile deformation.Coupled effects of the mobile and immobile dislocations illustrate the unsteady amplitude of serrations observed in stress–strain curves.Transmission electron microscope images of tested pieces reveal the interaction of dislocation and TB,with dislocation tangling around the TBs.

Multicolor emission from lanthanide ions doped lead-free Cs_(3)Sb_(2)Cl_(9) perovskite nanocrystals

The toxicity of lead ions has become the severe challenge for the all-inorganic lead halide p erovskite materials,although some works have rep orted the lead-free perovskite nanocrystals(NCs),the photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)of these materials is still unsatisfactory.Meanwhile,because the halogen ions can be easily exchanged,the controllable multicolor emission in perovskite NCs is difficult to realize in current reports.In this work,we introduced lanthanide ions into lead-free Cs_(3)Sb_(2)Cl_(9) perovskite NCs.Benefitting from the energy transfer between Cs_(3)Sb_(2)Cl_(9) perovskite NC host and lanthanide ions,the multicolor emission was realized.Based on controlling the doping concentration of Tb^(3+)and Eu^(3+)ions,the white light emission under UV excitation would be turned easily in the Tb^(3+)/Eu^(3+)codoped NCs.In addition,efficient energy transfer from perovskite NCs to Tb^(3+)or Eu^(3+)ions is beneficial to improving the optical properties of lead-free perovskite NCs,resulting in maximum PLQYs of red,green and white light emission of 22.6%,19.7%and 28.5%,respectively.Finally,a white light emitting device(WLED)was fabricated with a power efficiency of 18.5 lm/W,which presents the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage(CIE)of(0.33,0.35).

Identification of reservoir types in deep carbonates based on mixedkernel machine learning using geophysical logging data

Identification of reservoir types in deep carbonates has always been a great challenge due to complex logging responses caused by the heterogeneous scale and distribution of storage spaces. Traditional cross-plot analysis and empirical formula methods for identifying reservoir types using geophysical logging data have high uncertainty and low efficiency, which cannot accurately reflect the nonlinear relationship between reservoir types and logging data. Recently, the kernel Fisher discriminant analysis(KFD), a kernel-based machine learning technique, attracts attention in many fields because of its strong nonlinear processing ability. However, the overall performance of KFD model may be limited as a single kernel function cannot simultaneously extrapolate and interpolate well, especially for highly complex data cases. To address this issue, in this study, a mixed kernel Fisher discriminant analysis(MKFD) model was established and applied to identify reservoir types of the deep Sinian carbonates in central Sichuan Basin, China. The MKFD model was trained and tested with 453 datasets from 7 coring wells, utilizing GR,CAL, DEN, AC, CNL and RT logs as input variables. The particle swarm optimization(PSO) was adopted for hyper-parameter optimization of MKFD model. To evaluate the model performance, prediction results of MKFD were compared with those of basic-kernel based KFD, RF and SVM models. Subsequently, the built MKFD model was applied in a blind well test, and a variable importance analysis was conducted. The comparison and blind test results demonstrated that MKFD outperformed traditional KFD, RF and SVM in the identification of reservoir types, which provided higher accuracy and stronger generalization. The MKFD can therefore be a reliable method for identifying reservoir types of deep carbonates.

Aza-BODIPY dye with unexpected bromination and high singlet oxygen quantum yield for photoacoustic imaging-guided synergetic photodynamic/photothermal therapy

Introducing heavy halogen atoms into organic small molecules is a practical strategy for efficient singlet oxygen(^(1)O_(2))generation.Generally,bromine or iodine atoms are introduced on the aza-borondipyrromethene(aza-BODIPY)core,rather than on the periphery aryl rings for efficient~1O_(2) generation.Herein,an aza-BODIPY dye NBDPBr with unexpected bromination on the periphery aryl rings was synthesized for photoacoustic(PA)imaging-guided synergistic photothermal therapy(PTT)and photodynamic therapy(PDT)in tumor cells.Owing to unexcepted bromination at the periphery aryl rings,NBDPBr demonstrated an outstanding singlet oxygen quantum yield(Φ_(Δ))of 66% which was superior to similar brominated photosensitizers previously reported.After encapsulation with amphiphilic polymer F-127,hydrophilic NBDPBr nanoparticles(NPs)were fabricated and exhibited an excellent photothermal conversion efficiency(η)of 43.0% under 660 nm photoirradiation.In vivo PA imaging results demonstrated that NBDPBr NPs could specifically accumulate at tumor sites and realized the maximum tumor retention at 7 h post-injection.All the in vitro and in vivo results indicated the significant potence of NBDPBr with unexpected bis-bromination for PA imaging-guided synergetic PDT/PTT.
