Smoking rate trends of male 7th and 11th graders in Japan based on repeated, nationwide, cross-sectional surveys every 4 years from 1996 to 2008

Backgrounds: Smoking in childhood has become an important public health concern. Previous studies have reported on secular trends in childhood smoking rates and compared with smoking rates at fixed ages. They also described secular trends regarding the prevalence of smoking at fixed ages. The variations in smoking rate of young children and adolescents by follow-up groups have not been studied by follow-up groups at a national level. Objective: We looked at trends and generational impacts on smoking rate by using follow-up groups of male Japanese high school students to quantitatively assess differences in trends, based on multiple nationwide data from the Japanese Youth Tobacco and Drinking Surveys gathered every 4 years between 1996 and 2008. Methods: The surveys were nationwide, cross-sectional random sampling surveys given every 4 years from 1996 to 2008, using the single-stage cluster sampling methodology. The cluster unit of the sampling was school. The survey targeted junior and senior high school students from schools selected through Japan using the National School Directory. Students enrolled in the sampled schools were subjects of the study. Participants were 53,925 high school students from 7th grade to 11th grade in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. We divided the three follow-up groups every 4 years from 1996 to 2004 for male junior high school students in 7th grades, age 13. The end periods were 4 years later when they had become 11th graders, age 17, from 2000 to 2008. Main outcome measures in this study were life time smoking, current smoking within 30 days and daily smoking at 7th or 11th grade and the trend of the smoking rates between 7th to 11th grades. Results: Life time smoking rate, current smoking rate and daily smoking rate in Japanese high school students decreased at 7th grade from 1996 to 2004. This paper proposes a new modeling method for the RBF-ARX *** method is simpler than the previously used SNPOM and makes the RBF-ARX model more flexible in choosing model index and modeling ***,it improves the longterm prediction performance largely.A case study on modeling of a ship’s maneuvering process illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method.

用溶剂分离法制备适用于高性能碳纤维的中间相沥青。从加氢煤焦油沥青的丙酮不溶份,可得到具有可纺性良好的中间相沥青。从这种沥青得到的碳纤维要比按常规的热处理方法得到的碳纤维显示出更好的性能。碳纤维的抗拉强度大于4.5GPa,弹性模量大于600GPa。用元素分析、溶剂抽提分析、红外光谱仪来检测由溶剂分离法制得的中间相沥青(SFMP)与由常规的热处理法制得的中间相沥青(HTMP)之间的差别,也可以用偏光显微镜和^(13)C-核磁共振仪来估测SFMP和HTMP中的中间相(定向分子)含量。元素分析、溶剂抽提分析、红外光谱仪的结果表明,SFMP的脂肪族结构高于HTMP,并认为HTMP比SFMP含有较高分子量的组分。用偏光显微镜估测两种沥青的中间相含量均接近100%,但是对于SFMP在^(13)-CNMR中的中间相信号强度高于HTMP。

Chitosan Sub-micron Particles Prepared Using Sulfate Ion Salt as Bacteriostatic Materials in Neutral pH Condition

In this paper, the newly developed ion exchange phase separation method to create chitosan sub-micron particles is introduced: 1) chitosan was dissolved in a lactic acid aqueous solution. 2) the obtained chitosan solution was added stepwise in a sodium sulfate aqueous solution and cooled down to 5℃ to become slightly turbid through agglutination. 3) desalinating and deacidifying of the mixture was carried out by a dialyzing tube method. IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis indicated that the agglutination of chitosan was induced by crosslinking effect with an electrostatic interaction between sulfate anions and amino groups in the glucosamine unit although large excess of Na2SO4 caused undesirable further agglutination of the resultant chitosan particles. As a result, the proper amount of Na2SO4 was approximately 1.0 - 10.0 equivalent for the amino group to create the chitosan particles with a sub-micron size. In addition, we investigated an antibacterial activity test for Escherichia coli of the obtained chitosan particles. The significant antibacterial activity was observed in incubation even at neutral pH condition while the chitosan microbeads (size: ca 200 ∫m) prepared by the conventional method and chitosan granules (size: ca 600 ∫m) as starting materials showed almost no antibacterial activity in the same condition.

Comparison of Two Chemically-Induced Colitis-Models in Adult Zebrafish, Using Optical Projection Tomography and Novel Transcriptional Markers

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis—inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)—are chronic conditions with an inadequately understood pathogenesis. Employing a set of novel molecular markers in a gene expression assay (qPCR), we have used adult zebrafish to investigate two acute inflammatory models, induced by the haptenizing agents oxazolone and TNBS. In addition, goblet cell dynamics in the scales and intestine and 5-HT (serotonin) in intestinal tissues were investigated through optical projection tomography. Gene expression studies revealed a distinct and significant upregulation of proinflammatory cytokines, acute-phase reactants and metalloprotease 9 in both chemical models, primarily after 72 hours. In comparison, transcription factors and cytokines associated with Th1 and Th17 (Crohn’s) and Th2 (ulcerative colitis) were mainly not affected in this acute setting. However, elevated transcript levels were detected in Foxp3, IL-10 and T-bet, which are linked with tolerance and Tregs in mammals. Goblet cells in scales were depleted in both chemical models and in the intestine of oxazolone-treated fish. A marked 5-HT signal was noted in intestinal tissue of some chemically treated zebrafish. In conclusion, a distinct acute inflammatory reaction was induced in both chemical models. Further, oxazolone and TNBS did not result in clear-cut Th2 and Th1/Th17 pathway signaling at this early timepoint, but the applied molecular tools may provide further insight to the IBD pathogenesis and translational value of the IBD zebrafish model.

用于生产1470MPa级高强度汽车零部件的热冲压工艺正在被应用,以满足对更轻、更安全、更坚固的车身的需求。在热冲压工艺中,镀层起着两个主要作用:控制加热过程中钢材表面的氧化和脱碳,以及提高部件的耐腐蚀性。镀铝钢板和镀锌钢板目前正用于热冲压工艺中。本文综述了镀层钢板的腐蚀性能和镀层组织。已广泛用于车身钢材的、具有耐腐蚀性的镀锌钢材现在由于液态金属脆化(LME)而具有各种工艺限制。对于镀铝钢,虽然工艺限制较少,但比镀锌钢更容易发生红锈,因此在使用时需要注意。近年来,已经报道了关于诸如Zn-Al-Mg基镀层的新镀层的发现。本文总结了现有的加热工艺中镀层微观结构变化和各种镀层钢腐蚀特性的知识。
