A new approach for reducing error of the volume penalization method is *** mask function is modified by shifting the interface between solid and fluid by√νηtoward the fluid region,whereνandηare the viscosity and the permeability,*** shift length√νηis derived from the analytical solution of the one-dimensional diffusion equation with a penalization *** effect of the error reduction is verified numerically for the one-dimensional diffusion equation,Burgers’equation,and the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes *** results show that the numerical error is reduced except in the vicinity of the interface showing overall second-order accuracy,while it converges to a non-zero constant value as the number of grid points increases for the original mask ***,the new approach is effective when the grid resolution is sufficiently high so that the boundary layer,whose width is proportional to√νη,is ***,the approach should be used when an appropriate combination ofνandηis chosen with a given numerical grid.

Effect of inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on growth, nutrient uptake and curcumin production of turmeric (<i>Curcuma longa </i>L.)

Profitable turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) production requires adequate nutrients. We have investigated the effect of inoculation with arbus cular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth, nutrient uptake, yield and curcumin production of turmeric under field and glasshouse conditions. Although AMF inoculation slightly increased plant height, leaf number and shoot N content, no statistical differences were observed in vegetative growth parameters, biomass production, nutrient uptake and curcumin content compared to control plants under field conditions. It was difficult to determine the exact effect of inoculated AMF on turmeric growth because of indigenous AMF. On the other hand, turmeric showed better response to AMF inoculation under greenhouse conditions. AMF inoculation resulted in higher biomass production and nutrient uptake of turmeric. Moreover the concen tration of curcumin, contained in the rhizome of turmeric, increased in AMF treatment. These results indicate that AMF inoculation has beneficial effects on turmeric growth and curcumin production. AMF inoculation to turmeric field would be effective when indigenous soil populations of AMF are low or native AMF are no longer effective.

Behavior of Siderophile and Chalcophile Elements in the Subcontinental Lithospheric Mantle beneath the Changbaishan Volcano,NE China

The mantle xenoliths in the Quaternary ChangbaishanVolcano in southern Jilin Province contain spinel-facies lherzolites. The equilibration temperatures for these samples range from 902℃ to 1064℃ based on the two-pyroxene thermometer of Brey and Kohler （1990）, and using the oxybarometry of Nell and Wood （1991）, the oxidation state was estimated from FMQ-1.32 to -0.38 with an average value of FMQ-0.81 （n = 8）, which is comparable to that of abyssal peridotites and the asthenospheric mantle. ThefO2 values of peridotites, together with their bulk rock compositions （e.g., Mg#, Al2O3, CaO, Ni, Co, Cr） and mineral compositions （e.g., Mg# of olivine and pyroxene, Cr# [=Cr/ [Cr＋Al]] and Mg# [=Mg/[Mg＋Fe2~] of spinel）, suggest that the present-day subcontinental lithospheric mantle （SCLM） beneath the Changbaishan Volcano most likely formed from an upwelling asthenosphere at some time after the late Mesozoic and has undergone a low degree of partial melting. The studied lherzolite xenoliths show low concentrations of S, Cu, and platinum group elements （PGE）, which plot a flat pattern on primitive-mantle normalized diagram. Very low concentrations in our samples suggest that PGEs occur as alloys or hosted by silicate and oxide minerals. The compositions of the studied samples are similar to those of peridotite xenoliths in the Longgang volcanic field （LVF） in their mineralogy and bulk rock compositions including the abundance of chalcophile and siderophile elements. However, they are distinctly different from those of peridotite xenoliths in other areas of the North China Craton （NCC） in terms of Cu, S and PGE. Our data suggest that the SCLM underlying the northeastern part of the NCC may represent a distinct unit of the newly formed lithospberic mantle.

The oxidative methylaion of tolucoe with methane to ethylbenzene and Styrene proCeeded over basic Y typezeolite catalyst at 1023K. KY was prepared from NaY raw powder by exchange with 0.5M KOH aqueoussolution at 363K. Loaded KY were preped by impregnating aqueous solutions of LiNO3 and CsNO3 onto *** KY zeolite showed very low C8-yield and selativity. Addition of alkali-metal oxides to the KYzeolite increased greatly the catalytic activity. The Cs2O(6Wt% Cs2O)/KY catalyst gave the highest C3 yield of32.2% with selelectivity of 60.9%.

Abstract: KF/Al2O3 reached maxinmun activity at the pretreatment temperature(Tp) of 623K or 723K in Ibuters isomerization at 273K. according to the amount of KF loaded. Further increment of Tp lowered the activity of KF/Al2O3 due the suppression of [Al-OHF]strong basic sites through dehydroxylation. Changes in the state and function ofF caused the deactivation of KF/Al2O3 at high Tp.

The long-term use of proton pump inhibitors(PPIs)exacerbates corpus atrophic gastritis in patients with Helicobacter pylori(***)*** identify a potential mechanism for this change,we discuss interactions between pH,bile acids,and *** reflux,which includes bile,occurs in healthy individuals,and bile reflux is increased in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Diluted human plasma and bile acids have been found to be significant chemoattractants and chemorepellents,respectively,for the bacillus *** only taurine conjugates,with a pKa of 1.8-1.9,are soluble in an acidic environment,glycine conjugates,with a pKa of 4.3-5.2,as well as taurine-conjugated bile acids are soluble in the presence of PPI ***,the soluble bile acid concentrations in the gastric contents of patients with GERD after continuous PPI therapy are considerably higher than that in those with intact acid *** the distal stomach,the high concentration of soluble bile acids is likely to act as a bactericide or chemorepellent for *** contrast,the mucous layer in the proximal stomach has an optimal bile concentration that forms chemotactic gradients with plasma components required to direct *** to the epithelial *** may then colonize in the stomach body rather than in the pyloric antrum,which may explain the occurrence of corpus-predominant gastritis after PPI therapy in ***-positive patients with GERD.

BACKGROUND A Sister Mary Joseph nodule(SMJN)is an uncommon cutaneous metastasis found in the umbilicus,indicating an advanced *** typically originate from intra-abdominal sources,rarely from breast *** suggests a poor prognosis with a median survival of approximately 8 mo after *** patients with SMJNs is challenging,as most receive limited palliative care *** optimal strategy for long-term survival of these patients remains *** SUMMARY A 58-year-old female,previously diagnosed with right breast cancer 17 years ago and underwent breast-conserving surgery,adjuvant radiotherapy,and endocrine therapy,presented with a 2-cm umbilical *** years previously,metastases were detected in the right supraclavicular,infraclavicular,hilar,and mediastinal lymph *** umbilical nodule emerged four years before the date of presentation,confirmed as a skin metastasis of primary breast cancer upon excisional *** initial removal,the nodule recurred and grew,leading to her referral to our *** patient underwent extensive excision of the umbilical tumor and immediate abdominal wall *** therapy was continued *** years later,no local recurrence was observed,and the patient continued to work full-time,achieving over 9 years of survival following SMJN *** This case study aimed to identify the optimal strategy for achieving extended survival outcomes in patients with SMJN through comprehensive *** presented a case of the longest survival in a patient after undergoing a multidisciplinary treatment *** findings underscore the significance of adopting a multimodal treatment approach comprising timely and wide excision along with adjunctive *** approach can control the disease,prolong survival,and improve the quality of life in patients with SMJN.
