Differentiation of focal liver lesions using three-dimensional ultrasonography: Retrospective and prospective studies

AIM: To differentiate focal liver lesions based on enhancement patterns using three-dimensional ultrasonography (3D US) with perflubutane-based contrast ***: Two hundred and eighty two patients with focal liver lesions,including 168 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs),63 metastases,40 hemangiomas and 11 focal nodular hyperplasias (FNHs),were examined by 3D US with perflubutane-based contrast *** ultrasound images and sonographic angiograms were *** 282 lesions,enhancement patterns of 163 lesions between January 2007 and October 2007 were analyzed *** from November 2007 to May 2008,compared with contrast-enhanced (CE) 2D US,CE 3D US was performed on 119 lesions for prospective differential ***,specificity,area under receiver operating characteristic curve (Az) and inter-reader agreement were ***: With the tridimensional view,dominant enhancement patterns were revealed as diffuse enhancement or peripheral ring-like enhancement,followed with washout change for HCCs or metastases,respectively,and peripheral nodular enhancement or diffuse enhancement with spoke-wheel arteries,followed by persistent enhancement for hemangiomas or FNHs,*** CE 3D US,the prospective differentiation of lesions showed sensitivity 92% (mean for two readers),specificity 91% and Az value 0.95 for HCCs,84%,97%,and 0.95 for metastases,91%,98%,and 0.98 for hemangiomas and 80%,99%,and 0.99 for FNHs,respectively,while good to excellent inter-reader agreement was *** significant difference exists between prospective diagnosis accuracy at CE 3D US and that at CE 2D ***: CE 3D US provides a spatial perspective for liver tumor enhancement,and could help in differentiating focal liver lesions.

The chromosome analysis of the masculinized hybrid between female Rhodeus ocellatus ocellatus and male R. atremius fangi in bitterlings (Acheilognathinae) was done. It was presumed that they had intermediate karyotype between the parents, and formed sperms with heteroploidy resulting from the incomplete pairing of homologous chromosomes in meiosis. Due to the abundance of species and the ease of artificial fertilization, the study of the factor of the hybrid sterility in bitterlings would lead to the clarification of the mechanism about species differentiation and karyotype differentiation, and also develop a new variety. And also, it would also be important to make the hybrid various natures clear in environmental preservation.

AIM： To examine the effects of anti-high mobility group box 1 （HIGB1） neutralizing antibody in experimental severe acute pancreatitis （SAP）. METHODS： SAP was induced by creating closed duodenal loop inC3H/HeN mice. SAP was induced immediately after intrapedtoneal injection of anti-HMGB1 neutralizing antibody （200 pg）. Sevedty of pancreatitis, organ injury （liver, kidney and lung）, and bacterial translocation to pancreas was examined 12 h after induction of SAP. RESULTS： Anti-HHGB1 neutralizing antibody significantly improved the elevation of the serum amylase level and the histological alterations of pancreas and lung in SAR Anti-HHGB1 antibody also significantly ameliorated the elevations of serum alanine aminotransferase and creatinine in SAR However, anti-HHGB1 antibody worsened the bacterial translocation to pancreas. CONCLUSION： Blockade of HHGB1 attenuated the development of SAP and associated organ dysfunction, suggesting that HHGB1 may act as a key mediator for inflammatory response and organ injury in SAR

Morphological changes of doxorubicin-loaded liposomes observed by atomic force microscopy

＜正＞The absorption, distribution and excretion of most of xenobiotics, drugs, environmental toxins and their metabolites are mediated by membrane transporters. Recent advances in the transporter research have made it possible to investigate the mechanisms of transport of those exogenous compounds and their transporter-mediated organ toxicity at the molecular level. Exogenous compounds including drugs and toxic substances occurring in the environment pass through the transporters with broad substrate selectivity, namely "multispecific" transporters, to enter the cells and exert their toxic effects. The remarkable examples of such transporter-mediated toxicity are l-methyl-4-phenyl-2,3-dihydropyridinium （MPP+）-neurotoxicity mediated by dopamine transporters, cephaloridine-nephrotoxicity and ochratoxin A-nephrotoxicity mediated by organic anion transporters and methylmercury-toxicity mediated by system L amino acid transporters （LATs）.

Liposomes, closed vesicles composed of lipid bilayers, have been widely used as pharmaceutical carriers. Liposomal formulations containing doxorubicin (DOX) of an anticancer drug are developed to reduce toxic side effects and to improve drug accumulation at tumor tissues. An encapsulation of DOX into the inner water phase of liposomes results in the formations of fibrous DOX bundles and the elongation of the liposomes [1].In this study, atomic force microscopy (AFM).

This study aims to identify the support to provide to fathers who have abused children as reported by public health nurses (PHNs). In this study, a qualitative descriptive design was applied to the data analysis. Interviewees were 10 public health nurses (PHNs) in charge of child abuse services for at least 5 years at public health centers. The study analyzed 13 cases reported in the interviews. Measures to support fathers who abuse their children as suggested by PHNs were classified into direct support to the father, support to other family members, and support to be provided by others involved including related organizations. The direct support to the father includes “gaining an in-depth understanding of the abusive situation and psychological states of those involved”, “refraining from involvement in areas where it is difficult to understand the personality of the father”, and others. Support of other family members includes “understanding the marital relationship and assessing the qualities of the relationship”, “refraining from matters that will involve divorce”, and others. Support to be provided by others including related organizations includes “understanding the value of social exchange and assessment of the ability to create and maintain interpersonal relationships”, “establishing support arrangements to enable intervention when necessary”, and others. The interviews report that PHNs arrange support measures that enable intervention as it becomes required, and that this enables learning about child-abuse preventing activities.
