Influence of chirality on the cyclohexene-fused C_(60) fullerene derivatives as an accepter partner in a photovoltaic cell

Organic photovoltaic devices(OPVs) using chiral cyclohexene-fused [C_(60)]-fullerene derivatives that have(l)-menthyl ester moiety have been prepared and their properties evaluated as acceptor molecules with P3 HT polymer: racemic cyclohexene-fused [C_(60)] fullenene,(RS)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a showed higher PCE(2.81%) than that of standard [C_(60)]-PCBM(2.64%) under the same analysis conditions. On the contrary, devices using chiral(R)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a and(S)-(1 R,2 S,5 R)-2 a, showed PCE as 1.08% and 1.10%, respectively. The main origin of the differences in PCE was found to be their poor Jsc values. The results indicate that the aggregation state might influence the interaction state with P3 HT and impact the results of the OPV properties, Jsc values in particular.

BACKGROUND:Invasive pancreatic carcinoma generally appears as poorly defined mass reflecting the infiltrative *** aimed to identify the histological and immunohistochemical features in a rare case of pancreatic carcinoma showing exophytic growth. METHODS:A 67-year-old woman presented with a mass of 5.0 cm in diameter in the pancreatic *** computed tomography revealed a well-demarcated, primarily solid mass with a central low-density area. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed neither encasement nor dilation of the main pancreatic *** incorrect preoperative diagnosis was made of solid pseudopapillary tumor of the *** serum carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)levels and abnormal FDG positron emmission tomography accumulation suggested that the tumor had malignant potential requiring a pancreatoduodenectomy. RESULTS:The head of the pancreas contained a well- circumscribed encapsulated mass of 5.0 cm in diameter, comprising 50%adenocarcinoma,with mucinous carci- noma in the center and anaplastic carcinoma at the *** anaplastic carcinoma comprised pleo- morphic cells(PCs)and pleomorphic giant cells(PGCs). The PGCs phagocytozed mononuclear PCs and lymphocytes adjacent to the capsule without infiltrating the capsule *** revealed that the anaplastic carcinoma cells including PGCs were positive for the tumor antigen Mucin 1 and CEA but negative for vimentin. CONCLUSION:Our observations suggest anaplastic carcinoma components in the present tumor have a ductal origin and that the exophytic tumor growth is associated with the phagocytotic activity of PGCs.

We carried out low-resolution optical spectroscopy of 51 main-belt asteroids, most of which have highly-inclined orbits. They are selected from D-type candidates in the SDSS-MOC 4 catalog. Using the University of Hawaii 2.2 m telescope and the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics 2 m telescope in India, we determined the spectral types of 38 asteroids. Among them, eight asteroids were classified as D-type asteroids. Fractions of D-type asteroids are 3.0 ± 1.1% for low orbital inclination main-belt asteroids and 7.3 ± 2.0% for high orbital inclination main-belt asteroids. The results of our study indicate that some D-type asteroids were formed within the ecliptic region between the main belt and Jupiter, and were then perturbed by Jupiter.

Plant class III heme peroxidases catalyze lignin polymerization. Previous reports have shown that at least three Arabidopsis thaliana peroxidases, AtPrx2, AtPrx25 and AtPrx71, are involved in stem lignification using T-D NA insertion mutants, atprx2, atprx25, and atprx71. Here, we generated three double mutants, atprx2/atprx25, atprx2/atprx71, and atprx25/atprx71, and investigated the impact of the simultaneous deficiency of these peroxidases on lignins and plant growth. Stem tissue analysis using the acetyl bromide method and derivatization followed by reductive cleavage revealed improved lignin characteristics, such as lowered lignin content and increased arylglycerol-β-aryl （β-O-4） linkage type, especially β-O-4 linked syringyl units, in lignin, supporting the roles of these genes in lignin polymerization. In addition, none of the double mutants oexhibited severe growth defects, such as shorter plant stature, dwarfing, or sterility, and their stems had improved ceil wall degradability. This study will contribute to progress in lignin bioengineering to improve iignocellulosic biomass.

Bedload governs riverbed channel variations and morphology, it is necessary to determine bedload discharge through an arbitrary cross section in a mountain fiver. A new system with submerged load cells has been developed to directly measure bedload discharge. The system consists of：（1） an iron box which is 1 m long, 0.5 m wide and 0.1 m in depth, （2） two submerged load cells 0.7 m apart, （3） a pressure sensor and, （4） an electromagnetic velocity meter. This system has been designed to exclude the effect of the hydraulic pressure of water on direct measurements of bedload particle weight. Initial tests in a laboratory were conducted to examine the accuracy of measurements with the system under aerial conditions. The system has been installed in the supercritical flume in Ashi-arai-dani River of the Hodaka Sedimentation Observatory of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute （DPRI） of Kyoto University to obtain bedload discharge under natural conditions. Flume tests were conducted in this channel by artificial supply of uniform sediment particles of several grain sizes. The average velocity of the sediment particles near the bed was estimated using cross-correlation functions for weight waves obtained by the two load cells, Bedload discharge calculations were based on time integration of the product of sediment velocity and sediment weight obtained by the two load cells. This study clarifies the reasons why bedload measurements are difficult, and provides some solutions using the monitoring systems with submerged load cells through the field measurements. Additionally, the applicability of bedload measurement with the submerged load cells is explained based on experimental artificial sediment supply data.

In recently years, environmental problems, such as global warming and exhaustion of fossil fuels, have grown into serious problems. In the automakers, the development of the fuel cell vehicles using hydrogen as clean energy has been paid attention to. Aluminum alloys have already been applied to a liner material of a high-pressure hydrogen tank for fuel cell vehicles. However, the behavior of hydrogen in aluminum alloys has not been clearly elucidated yet. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the hydrogen behavior in aluminum alloys. Hydrogen microprint technique （HMPT） has been known as an effective measure to investigate the hydrogen behavior. In the present study, the emission behavior of internal hydrogen on a tensile-deformed Al-9%Mg alloy was investigated bv HMPT at room temoerature. As a result, the hydrogen was emitted at some grain boundaries.

A new kind of instability driven by the magnetic field gradient and curvature (MFGC) in toroidal plasmas is presented. It is found that the MFGC drift modes possess finite growth rates even if the plasma pressure gradient vanishes. In addition, the effects of plasma pressure gradient and safety factor on the MFGC modes have been analysed numerically.

A case of a 53-year-old female patient with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia （RLH）, clinically designated as pseudolymphoma of the liver is described in this article. The patient was admitted to our hospital for further evaluation of hepatic tumors incidentally discovered at another hospital. Various diagnostic methods, including ultrasonography （US）, computerized tomography （CT）, magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） and hepatic angiography displayed three small lesions in the liver with outstanding findings consistent with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. Surgical resection was performed and the three lesions were microscopically diagnosed as RLH of the liver. The lesions comprised a massive infiltration of lymphoid cells with follicles and hyalinized inter- follicular spaces. Immunohistochemical examination revealed that infiltrating lymphocytes had no prominent nuclear atypia and polyclonality. RLH of the liver is a very rare condition and only twelve cases have been reported in the English literature. Majority of the reported cases were middle-aged women and about half of them had some immunologic abnormalities such as autoimmune thyroiditis, Sjogren＇s syndrome, primary immunodeficiency, primary biliary cirrhosis. Since they are olden clinically misdiagnosed as HCC, surgery is the choice of treatment for these patients. Although their pathology resembles malignant lymphoma, the clinical course is completely benign. The authors propose that RLH of the liver can be discriminated from HCC by its clinical features.

Aim： To report two cases of the left testicular artery arching over the left renal vein （LRV） before running downward to the testis. Methods： The subjects were obtained from two Japanese cadavers. During the student course of gross-anatomical dissection, the anatomical relationship between the testicular vessels and the renal vein was specifically observed. Results： The arching left testicular artery arose from the aorta below the LRV and made a loop around the LRV, which appeared to be mildly compressed between the arching artery and the psoas major muscle. Conclusion： Clinically, compression of the LRV between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery occasionally induces LRV hypertension, resulting in varicocele, orthostatic protenuria and hematuria. Considering that the incidence of a left arching testicular artery is higher than that of a right one, an arching left artery could be an additional cause of LRV hypertension. （Asian J Androl 2006 Jan; 8： 107-110）
