Water isotope variations in the snow pack and summer precipitation at July 1 Glacier, Qilian Mountains in northwest China

This paper presents the stable isotope data of the snow pack and summer precipitation collected at the July 1 Glacier, Qilian Mountains in northwest China and analyses their relationships with meteorologi- cal factors. On an event scale, there is no temperature effect on the δ 18O values in the summer pre- cipitation, whereas the amount effect is shown to be clear. By tracing the moisture transport history and comparing the precipitation with its isotopic composition, it is shown that this amount effect not only reflects the change in moisture trajectory, which is related to the monsoon activities, but is also associated with the cooling degree of vapor in the cloud, the evaporation of falling raindrops and the isotopic exchange between the falling drops and the atmospheric vapor. As very little precipitation occurs in winter, the snow pack profile mainly represents the precipitation in the other three seasons. There are low precipitation δ 18O ratios in summer and high ratios in spring and autumn. The Meteoric Water Line (MLW) for the summer precipitation is δ D = 7.6 δ 18O + 13.3, which is similar to that at Delingha, located in the south rim of the Qilian Mountains. The MWL for the snow pack is δ D = 10.4 δ 18O + 41.4, showing a large slope and intercept. The deuterium excess (d) of the snow pack is positively correlated with δ 18O, indicating that both d and δ 18O decrease from spring to summer and increase from early autumn to early spring. This then results in the high slope and intercept of the MWL. Sea- sonal fluctuations of d in the snow pack indicate the change of moisture source and trajectory. During spring and autumn, the moisture originates from continental recycling or rapid evaporation over rela- tively warm water bodies like Black, Caspian and Aral Seas when the dry westerly air masses pass over them, hence very high d values in precipitation are formed. BACKGROUND The effectiveness of sofosbuvir/ribavirin(SOF/RBV) combination therapy,which is one of the 1 st-choice therapeutic options for patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV) genotype 2(HCV-G2) in Japan according to the most recent version of the Japan Society of Hepatology guideline, for patients who experienced failure of the ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir plus ribavirin(OBV/PTV/r+RBV) combination therapy, which was another option for patients with HCV-G2, is *** SUMMARY We evaluated the effects of SOF/RBV combination therapy in two patients with genotype 2 a who could not achieve a sustained virological response(SVR) by OBV/PTV/r+RBV combination therapy. One patient was complicated with VogtKoyanagi-Harada(VKH) disease. Resistance-associated variations before SOF/RBV combination therapy were not detected in two patients. Both patients had an SVR at 12 wk after the treatment(SVR12). Regarding adverse events(AEs), itching, chill, a dull feeling in the throat and cough as well as increase of alanine transaminase level were shown in one patient, while a headache and deterioration of light aversion probably due to the recurrence of VKH disease were shown in the other patients. In addition, the latter patient developed arthralgia and morning stiffness approximately 7 wk after the therapy and turned out to be diagnosed with rheumatoid *** SOF/RBV therapy might be effective for patients experiencing failure of OBV/PTV/r+RBV therapy, but caution should be taken regarding the AEs.

＜正＞A survey was carded out at the July 1st glacier in Qilian Mountains, China in 2002. There was a record of this glacier boundary in 1956, and research works have been done in the mid-Seventies and Eighties. Our survey of the glacier revealed that the glacier area in 2002 has decreased 4% and 5% since 1985 and 1956, respectively. The average surface lowering rates of the glacier along a longitudinal line were 0.06 m yr-1 and 0.38 m yr-1 from 1975 to 1985 and, from 1985 to 2002, respectively. It was clarified, therefore, that the glacier area shrinkage and surface lowering have accelerated in the most recent 15 years.

祁连山七一冰川观测结果表明, 2001/2002年度和 2002/2003 年度冰川物质平衡分别为-810mm和-316 mm水当量, 冰面出现显著的减薄状态. 和过去的观测结果相比较, 20 世纪 70 年代为较大的正平衡, 年平均为360 mm水当量; 80年代年平均为4 mm水当量, 基本接近零平衡状态. 到近两年亏损强烈, 为所有观测资料中负平衡值最大的年份, 零平衡线也达到最高位置. 物质平衡出现较大的负值和零平衡线位置升高的状况, 强烈反映了祁连山冰川对气候变暖过程的响应. 如果气候变暖趋势继续, 冰川物质平衡负值将增大、冰面减薄和雪线的升高, 冰川将继续呈现萎缩状态.

Do bosons always condense?

We learn in elementary statistical mechanics that bosonic systems undergo a phase change even without interparticle interactions, called Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC). Indeed, almost all bosonic systems in the real world such as4He, cold atoms and photons, exhibit BEC, and even electrons, a representative fermion system, can show similar condensation and superconductivity through the Cooper pair formation.

A Note on Besov-Morrey Spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin-Morrey Spaces

In the present paper, we obtain three independent results on the Besov-Morrey spaces and the Triebel-Lizorkin-Morrey spaces. That is, we are going to obtain the characterization of local means, the boundedness of pseudo-differential operators and the characterization of the Hardy-Morrey spaces. By using the maximal estimate and the molecular decomposition, we shall integrate and extend the known results on these spaces.

A study of Corrosion Protection of Aluminum Metal by Tetraethoxysilane Plasma Polymerized Coatings -Influence of Aluminum Surface Pretreatments-

The corrosion-protective performance of plasma-polymerized (PP) coatings on pretreated aluminum substrates has been investigated by cathodic polarization curve measurement. The surface composition and electronic properties of the pretreated and PP film coated metal surfaces were also characterized by XPS and the temperature-programmed photoelectron emission (TPPE). A PP coating was prepared on the pretreated surfaces by plasma polymerization of a mixture of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) monomer vapor and oxygen using a 13.56MHz radiofrequency generator. The polarization curve of PP film coated samples was measured in NaCl aqueous solution. The weight loss rate calculated from the value of the corrosion current of the curve was used to estimate the protective performance of the PP film coated samples. Argon plasma treatment of the metal surface gave much better corrosion-protective performance than pretreatments such as oxidation by heating in air and diamond scratching. The XPS analysis indicated that the silicon oxide assigned to SiO2 was formed on the PP film coated surface. The TPPE analysis revealed that the electron emission characteristics for the metal surfaces pretreated only were strongly influenced by the pretreatments, while all the PP film coated samples exhibited nearly the same electron emission trend with a much decreased intensity.

A predual of a predual of B_σ and its applications to commutators

A predual of B_σ-spaces is investigated. A predual of a predual of B_σ-spaces is also investigated,which can be used to investigate the boundedness property of the commutators. The relation between Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces is discussed. As an application of the duality results, one obtains the boundedness of the singular integral operators, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operators and the fractional integral operators, as well as the commutators generated by the bounded mean oscillation(BMO) and the singular integral *** is new in this paper is that we do not have to depend on the specific structure of the operators. The results on the boundedness of operators are formulated in terms of B_σ-spaces and B_σ-spaces together with the detailed comparison of the ones in Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces. Another application is the nonsmooth atomic decomposition adapted to B_σ-spaces.

Visible light-curable polymers for biomedical applications

Photocurable systems, which offer advantages such as microfabrication and in situ fabrication, have been widely used as dental restorative materials. Because the visible light-curable(VLC) system causes no biological damage, it is popular as a dental material and is being investigated by many researchers for other medical applications. Here, the principle of the VLC system is explained and recent progress in key components including photoinitiators, monomers, macromers, and prepolymers is discussed. Finally, biomedical applications for drug delivery and soft tissue engineering are reviewed. Considering the recent development of VLC systems, its importance in the field of medical applications is expected to continue to increase in the future.
