While an increasing number of therapeutic options are now available for the first-line treatment of locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer,the optimal choice for treatment in the second-line setting and beyond is less well defined.A variety of cytotoxic agents,either alone or in combination,have been evaluated,although primarily in the context of small single-arm or retrospective *** regimens have been associated with median progression-free survival rates in the range of 2-4 mo and overall survival rates between 4-8mo,highlighting the very poor prognosis of patients who are candidates for such *** therapies studied in this chemotherapy-refractory setting,meanwhile,have produced even worse efficacy *** the current article,we review the clinical evidence for treatment of refractory disease,primarily in patients who have progressed on front-line gemcitabine-based *** the process,we highlight the limitations of the available data to date as well as some of the challenges in designing appropriate clinical trials in this salvage setting,including how to select an appropriate control arm given the absence of a wellestablished reference standard,and the importance of incorporating predictive biomarkers and quality of life measures whenever possible into study design.

We have investigated the sliding friction behavior of metallic couples with different enthalpy of mixing or reaction by friction force microscopy. Comparing the friction behavior of miscible and immiscible couples we find that in the first case friction is governed by adhesion while the shear strength is low(τ = 3–6 MPa). In the latter case of immiscible couples, adhesion is found to be low and the shear strength is large(τ≈ 70 MPa). Statistical analysis of atomic stick-slip images recorded on an Au(111) surface with tips of different affinities with gold allows for a deeper understanding of our results. The periodicity of atomic stick-slip images corresponds to the interatomic distance of gold for immiscible counter-bodies. In contrast, for a reactive couple the periodicity of atomic stick-slip significantly differs from the gold interatomic distance and may correspond to the structural length of an ordered intermediate phase at the tip-surface interface.

The Late Cretaceous Uckapth Granitoid including mafic microgranular enclaves intruded into metapelitic and metabasic rocks, and overlain unconformably by Neogene ignimbrites in the Ni^de area of Turkey. It is mostly granite and minor granodiorite in composition, whereas its enclaves are dominantly gabbro with a few diorites in composition. The Uckapdl Granitoid is composed mainly of quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, biotite, muscovite and minor amphibole while its enclaves contain mostly plagioclase, amphibole, minor pyroxene and biotite. The Uckapth Granitoid has calcalkaline and peraluminous （AJCNK= 1.0-1.3） geochemical characteristics. It is characterized by high LILE/hFSE and LREE/hREE ratios （（La/Lu）N 3-33）, and has negative Ba, Ta, Nb and Eu anomalies, resembling those of comsion granitoids. The {）fkaplh Granitoid has relatively high STSr/S6Sr0） ratios （0.711189--0.716061） and low eNd（t） values （-5.13 to -7.13）, confirming crustal melting. In contrast, the enclaves are tholeiitic and metaluminous, and slightly enriched in LILEs （K, Rb） and Th, and have negative Ta, Nb and Ti anomalies; propose that they were derived from a subduction-modified mantle source. Based on mineral and whole rock chemistry data, the Uckapth granitoid is h-（hybrid） type, post-collision granitoid developed by mixing/mingllng processes between crustal melts and mantle-derived mafic magmas.

Previously, we found 123 transcription factors（TFs） as candidate regulators of secondary cell wall（SCW）formation in rice by using phylogenetic and co-expression network analyses. Among them, we examined in this work the role of OsIDD_2, a zinc finger and indeterminate domain（IDD） family TF. Its overexpressors showed dwarfism, fragile leaves, and decreased lignin content, which are typical phenotypes of plants defective in SCW formation, whereas its knockout plants showed slightly increased lignin *** RNA-seq and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analyses confirmed that some lignin biosynthetic genes were downregulated in the OsIDD_2-overexpressing plants, and revealed the same case for other genes involved in cellulose synthesis and sucrose metabolism. The transient expression assay using rice protoplasts revealed that OsIDD_2 negatively regulates the transcription of genes involved in lignin biosynthesis, cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase 2 and 3（CAD_2 and 3）, and sucrose metabolism, sucrose synthase 5（SUS_5）, whereas an Alpha Screen assay, which can detect the interaction between TFs and their target DNA sequences, directly confirmed the interaction between OsIDD_2 and the target sequences located in the promoter regions of CAD_2 and CAD_3. Based on these observations, we conclude that OsIDD_2 is negatively involved in SCW formation and other biological events by downregulating its target genes.

BACKGROUND New-onset prediabetes/diabetes after acute pancreatitis(NODAP)is the most common sequela of pancreatitis,and it differs from type 2 prediabetes/diabetes mellitus(T2DM).AIM To study the associations between circulating levels of pancreatic amylase,pancreatic lipase,chymotrypsin and fat phenotypes in NODAP,T2DM,and *** Individuals with NODAP(n=30),T2DM(n=30),and sex-matched healthy individuals(n=30)were *** fat phenotypes(intra-pancreatic fat,liver fat,skeletal muscle fat,visceral fat,and subcutaneous fat)were determined using the same magnetic resonance imaging protocol and scanner magnet strength for all ***-way analysis of covariance,linear regression analysis,and relative importance analysis were *** Intra-pancreatic fat deposition(IPFD)was higher in NODAP(9.4%±1.8%)and T2DM(9.8%±1.1%)compared with healthy controls(7.8%±1.9%)after adjusting for covariates(P=0.003).Similar findings were observed in regards to visceral fat volume(P=0.005),but not subcutaneous fat volume,liver fat,or skeletal muscle *** IPFD(β=-2.201,P=0.023)and visceral fat volume(β=-0.004,P=0.028)were significantly associated with circulating levels of pancreatic amylase in NODAP,but not in T2DM or healthy *** the five fat phenotypes,IPFD explained the highest amount of variance in pancreatic amylase concentration(R2=15.3%out of 41.2%).None of the phenotypes contributed meaningfully to the variance in pancreatic lipase or *** Both NODAP and T2DM are characterized by increased IPFD and visceral fat ***,only NODAP is characterized by significant inverse associations between the two fat phenotypes and pancreatic amylase.

The Bi-2223/Ag tapes were prepared with spray-died powders, which are of different particle sizes and phase assemblages by varying the annealing time in pure oxygen. Longer time annealing degraded the reactivity of precursor powder, which in turn resulted in an incomplete conversion from precursors to Bi-2223, porosity core and misaligned grains in fully processed tapes. The best Jc in short pressed samples varied from 29.7 to 47kA/cm2 for the tapes made from different powders.

For simultaneous and quantitative thermophysical measurements of ultrasmall liquid volumes,we have recently developed and reported heated fluidic resonators(hFRs).In this paper,we improve the precision of hFRs in a vacuum by significantly reducing the thermal loss around the sensing element.A vacuum chamber with optical,electrical,and microfluidic access is custom-built to decrease the convection loss by two orders of magnitude under 10-4 mbar *** a result,the measurement sensitivities for thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity are increased by 4.1 and 1.6 times,*** differentiating between deionized water(h2O)and heavy water(D2O)with similar thermophysical properties and~10%different mass densities,the signal-to-noise ratio(property differences over standard error)for h2O and D2O is increased by 9 and 5 times for thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity,respectively.
