Coating w.th viscous formulations has been essential in numerous industries as it can be a means for providing functionalization, additional properties, as w.ll as other benefits. How.ver, there have been scarce studies that have investigated and proposed methodologies in literature. Continuous coating of pow.ers w.th viscous liquids poses as a promising technology, w.ich has been mentioned in some studies, but has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This paper employs the use of image processing and analysis, in combination w.th statistical analysis of particles to evaluate the effectiveness of foams and liquids as a means of coating pow.er beds. Tw. different sizes of tw.n screw.mixers that are w.rking in continuous operation are employed, and a new.continuous foaming device is fabricated and used for the experiments of coating. The effect of materials and process parameters (as for example rotational speed, and flow.ate) on the quality of coating are investigated. Image analysis is used to assess the coating quality. The results clearly show.ase the potential of using tw.n screw.mixers for coating purposes and not only for mixing. The hypothesis that using large bubble foams to improve the coating of viscous liquids on particles is proven correct, as they provide higher quality coatings compared to their equivalent liquids, w.en used in the tw.n screw.mixer. Surprisingly, using a larger scale tw.n screw.mixer, does not show.a substantial effect on the mixing, regarding quality, how.ver there is still a requirement for mix optimization for achieving scale-up of this process. These results provide a new.pathw.y for coating pow.ers w.th viscous formulations in industrial applications, requiring less energy and effort in this process, and can pave the w.y tow.rds introducing more sustainable industrial methodologies for coating. Summary of a Life in Observational Ultraviolet/Optical Astronomy

I reminisce on my early life in Section 1;on my education in Sections 2 and 3;on the years at Princeton as a research astronomer in Section 4;on the years on the faculty at Chicago in Section 5;on research on Diffuse Interstellar Bands(DIBs) in Section 6;on construction of the 3.5 m telescope at Apache Point Observatory(APO)in Section 7;on w.rk on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS) in Section 8;on w.rk in public education in Chicago in Section 9;and on my travels in Section 10. My main science research is of an observational nature,concerning Galactic and intergalactic interstellar gas. Highlights for me included my w.rk on the orbiting telescope Copernicus, including the discovery of interstellar deuterium;early observations of absorption associated w.th fivetimes ionized oxygen;and discoveries concerning the phases of gas in the local interstellar medium, based on previously unobservable interstellar UV spectral lines. w.th other instruments and collaborations, I extended interstellar UV studies to the intergalactic cool gas using quasi-stellar object QSO absorption lines redshifted to the optical part of the spectrum;provided a better definition of the emission and morphological character of the source of absorption lines in QSO spectra;and pursued the identification of the unidentified DIBs. For several of these topics, extensive collaborations w.th many scientists w.re essential over many years. The conclusions developed slow.y, as I moved from being a graduate student at Chicago, to a research scientist position at Princeton and then to a faculty position at Chicago. At each stage of life, I w.s exposed to new.technologies adaptable to my science and to subsequent projects. From high school days, I encountered several management opportunities w.ich w.re formative. I have been extremely fortunate both in scientific mentors I had and in experimental opportunities I encountered.

Origins of perturbations in dayside equatorial ground magnetograms

To determine the cause(s)of perturbations seen in dayside equatorial ground magnetograms,w. conducted a systematic survey of simultaneous ground-based and geosynchronous satellite-based observations during the 90-day period from December 1,2020 to February 28,*** examined Huancayo ground magnetometer observations from 14:00:00 to 20:00:00 UT each day,during w.ich Huancayo passed through local *** those data w. chose perturbation events selected on the basis of large(>20 nT)event amplitude and classified the selected events as responding primarily to solar w.nd pressure,or to variations in the north/south component of the interplanetary magnetic field(IMF Bz),or perhaps in part to *** results show.that an equivalent number of events w.re identified for each model during this 90-day *** in the lagged solar w.nd dynamic pressure routinely correspond to nearly simultaneous sudden impulses recorded at both geosynchronous orbit and on the *** in IMF Bz produce erosion signatures at geosynchronous orbit and can correspond to ground events if lag times for reconnection to enhance convection in the magnetosphere are taken into account.

Cyber-attacks pose a significant challenge to the security of Internet of Things (IoT) sensor netw.rks, necessitating the development of robust countermeasures tailored to their unique characteristics and limitations. Various prevention and detection techniques have been proposed to mitigate these attacks. In this paper, w. propose an integrated security framew.rk using blockchain and Machine Learning (ML) to protect IoT sensor netw.rks. The framew.rk consists of tw. modules: a blockchain prevention module and an ML detection module. The blockchain prevention module has tw. lightw.ight mechanisms: identity management and trust management. Identity management employs a lightw.ight Smart Contract (SC) to manage node registration and authentication, ensuring that unauthorized entities are prohibited from engaging in any tasks, w.ile trust management uses a lightw.ight SC that is responsible for maintaining trust and credibility betw.en sensor nodes throughout the netw.rk's lifetime and tracking historical node behaviors. Consensus and transaction validation are achieved through a Verifiable Byzantine Fault Tolerance (VBFT) mechanism to ensure netw.rk reliability and integrity. The ML detection module utilizes the Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) algorithm to classify malicious nodes and notify the blockchain netw.rk if it must make decisions to mitigate their impacts. w. investigate the performance of several off -the -shelf ML algorithms, including Logistic Regression, Complement Naive Bayes, Nearest Centroid, and Stacking, using the w.N-DS dataset. LightGBM is selected follow.ng a detailed comparative analysis conducted using accuracy, precision, recall, F1 -score, processing time, training time, prediction time, computational complexity, and Matthew. Correlation Coefficient (MCC) evaluation metrics.

This paper describes the development and optimization plans for the China Railw.y Express (CR Express). As a new.type of international land transport organization, CR Express has emerged w.th the continuous expansion of China tow.rd European investment and trade, and in particular, has expanded w.th the continuous progress of the One Belt and One Road (OBOR) initiative. In addition to improving the service quality of CR Express, the operating costs must be reduced for developing “smart railw.ys” that serve “smart cities”. w. propose a dual-objective-based function mathematical optimization model; the satisfaction of the cargo ow.er is considered, and the timeliness, transportation capacity, and goods category constraints of CR Express transportation are designed. Moreover, w. present the normalized equivalent method of the tw.-objective function of the model. Finally, a case study is conducted against the background of certain trains in the w.stern corridor of CR Express to validate the effectiveness of the model and research methods proposed in this study. © 2024 Beijing Jiaotong University

The Effects of the Longitudinal Axis of Loading upon Bending, Shear and Torsion of a Thin-w.lled Cantilever Channel Beam

Three aluminium channel sections of US standard extruded dimension are mounted as cantilevers w.th x-axis symmetry. The flexural bending and shear that arise w.th applied axial torsion are each considered theoretically and numerically in terms of tw. longitudinal axes of loading not coincident w.th the shear centre. In particular, the w.rping displacements, stiffness and stress distributions are calculated for torsion applied to longitudinal axes passing through the section’s centroid and its w.b centre. The stress conversions derived from each action are superimposed to reveal a net sectional stress distribution. Therein, the influence of the axis position upon the net axial and shear stress distributions is established compared to previous results for each beam w.en loading is referred to a flexural axis through the shear centre. w.thin the net stress analysis is, it is show. how.the constraint to free w.rping presented by the end fixing modifies the axial stress. The latter can be identified w.th the action of a ‘bimoment’ upon each thin-w.lled section.

Theory of Flexural Shear, Bending and Torsion for a Thin-w.lled Beam of Open Section

Aspects of the general Vlasov theory are examined separately as applied to a thin-w.lled channel section cantilever beam under free-end end loading. In particular, the flexural bending and shear that arise under transverse shear and axial torsional loading are each considered theoretically. These analyses involve the location of the shear centre at w.ich transverse shear forces w.en applied do not produce torsion. This centre, w.en taken to be coincident w.th the centre of tw.st implies an equivalent reciprocal behaviour. That is, an axial torsion applied concentric w.th the shear centre w.ll tw.st but not bend the beam. The respective bending and shear stress conversions are derived for each action applied to three aluminium alloy extruded channel sections mounted as cantilevers w.th a horizontal principal axis of symmetry. Bending and shear are considered more generally for other thin-w.lled sections w.en the transverse loading axes at the shear centre are not parallel to the section = s centroidal axes of principal second moments of area. The fixing at one end of the cantilever modifies the St Venant free angular tw.st and the free w.rping displacement. It is show. from the w.gner-Kappus torsion theory how.the end constrained w.rping generates an axial stress distribution that varies w.th the length and across the cross-section for an axial torsion applied to the shear centre. It should be mentioned here for w.der applications and validation of the Vlasov theory that attendant papers are to consider in detail bending and torsional loadings applied to other axes through each of the centroid and the w.b centre. Therein, both bending and tw.sting arise from transverse shear and axial torsion applied to each position being displaced from the shear centre. Here, the influence of the axis position upon the net axial and shear stress distributions is to be established. That is, the net axial stress from axial torsional loading is identified w.th the sum of axial stress

A hydrodynamic modelling of w.ve-activated bodies for w.velet marine regions

Recently, most w.ve energy research has targeted sea areas w.th high pow.r density under extreme w.ve conditions for deployment. This trend often leads to higher energy costs for w.ve pow.r plants. How.ver, many marine areas w.th low.pow.r density, characterized by w.velet conditions and less destructive forces than extreme w.ve conditions, remain underexplored. Therefore, this study aimed to propose a w.ve-activated body model for sea regions w.th w.velet conditions. The w.ve-activated body design process encompassed site selection, parameter determination, geometry design, comparison and performance evaluation using the ANSYS (R) AQw. model. The results indicated that the proposed device achieved the desired heave motion, w.th an amplitude range of 1.2 to -2.5 m, validating its potential for deployment in marine regions w.th w.velet conditions. Notably, w.ile the proposed design is optimized for w.velet conditions, it w.s found to have potential limitations in extreme w.ve environments. This observation emphasizes the challenge of formulating a generalized design suitable for both conditions. Consequently, it is pivotal for w.ve-activated body designs to be customized based on the specific ocean conditions they target, underscoring the need for specialized designs of w.ve energy converters that consider the unique w.ve characteristics of their deployment sites. A w.ve-activated body is designed for energy generation in ocean regions w.th w.velet conditions. Hydrodynamic modelling is carried out for tw. locations w.th different w.ve characteristics to determine the optimum conditions for deployment. Graphical Abstract
