Ethnic differences in gastric cancer genetic susceptibility:Allele flips of interleukin gene

Polymorphisms in promoter regions of inflammatory cytokines have been widely studied,and potentially functional polymorphisms have been *** results from meta-analyses of interleukin(IL)-1B and IL-10 polymorphisms show differences in gastric cancer susceptibilities between Caucasian and Asian *** particular,we note the suggestion of an allele flip in IL-1B and IL-10 gene *** Asian populations,the IL-1B-1464G/-511C/-31T haplotype indicates risk for gastric cancer,while the opposite haplotype,IL-1B-1464C/-511T/-31C is the risk-related allele in ***,while IL-10-1082G/-819C/-592C is associated with gastric cancer in Asians,IL-10-1082A/-819T/-592T is linked to gastric cancer risk in *** seemingly contradictory results may be attributed to distinct carcinogenic mechanisms underlying the different gastric cancer *** allele flip observed in IL-10 and gastric cancer appears to reflect allelic heterogeneity,similar to that observed in *** this review,we focus on the allele flip phenomenon observed between different ethnic groups in an effort to resolve certain controversial results from recent studies on interleukin *** addition,we re-emphasize the importance of stratifying gastric cancer subtypes based on anatomical site and Lauren classification to prevent false associations arising through dilution of true ones.

Detection of EGFR-SEPT14 fusion in cell-free DNA of a patient with advanced gastric cancer: A case report

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is the fifth most diagnosed cancer worldwide and the third most common cause of cancer-related *** recent decades,increasing application of next-generation sequencing has enabled detection of molecular aberrations,including *** cases where tissue is difficult to obtain,cell-free DNA(cfDNA)is used for detecting mutations to identify the molecular profile of ***,we report a rare case of EGFR-SEPT14 fusion detected from cfDNA analysis in a patient with gastric *** SUMMARY A 49-year-old female diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer in July 2019 received capecitabine and then combination chemotherapy of ramucirumab and paclitaxel,but ascites was *** therapy was switched to nivolumab,but disease progression was observed on a positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan in May *** was discontinued,and cfDNA nextgeneration sequencing was immediately *** genomic variants,including fusions,were analyzed from *** following somatic alterations were detected from the patient’s cfDNA:an APC frameshift mutation(NM_000038.5:c.6579del,p.V2194fs)with variant allele frequency of 0.5%,an EGFR amplification with a copy number of 17.3,and an EGFR-SEPT14 fusion with variant allele frequency of 45.3%.The site of the fusion was exon 24 of EGFR fused to exon 10 of *** fusion was in-frame and considered to be protooncogenic. Although the patient refused to continue therapy, we suggest thatEGFR-targeted therapies be tried in such future *** expanded applications of the cfDNA assay may open a new horizon intreatment of patients with advanced gastric cancer.

Temporal and spatial differentiation in microhabitat use: Implications for reproductive isolation and ecological niche specification

Niche differentiation enables ecologically similar species to coexist by lessening competition over food and/or shelters and may be critical for reproductive isolation between closely related species in close ***cause no extra traits need to evolve,spatial and temporal differentiation may readily take place to complement other isolating *** closely related treefrog species occur together in Korea:the endangered Hyla suweonensis and the widespread Hyla *** calls are differentiated,but it is unclear whether call difference is sufficient for reproductive *** tracked individuals of both species to study fine-scale differentiation in microhabitat use in the diel cycle of the breeding season using a harmonic direction *** male movement patterns of both species revealed spatial and temporal differentiation in microhabitat use for calling and resting during the breeding *** of both *** and *** occurred in all 5 microhabitats identified in this study:rice paddy,ground,buried,grass and *** treefrog species showed general similarities in calling from rice paddies and resting in grass and ***,*** moved into rice paddies and produced advertisement calls 3 h earlier than *** differences likely minimize contact between the species and provide an additional isolating *** addition,the activity of *** may be contributing to the decline of this species,as resting in grass would increase dangers from predatory birds and habitat disturbance.
