Hydrogen is produced by direct dissociation of water vapor,i.e.,splitting water molecules by the electrons in water plasma at low pressure(<10–50 Torr)using microwave plasma *** condition generates a high electron temperature,which facilitates the direct dissociation of water molecules.A microwave plasma source is developed,utilizing the magnetron of a microwave oven and a TE10 rectangular *** quantity of the generated hydrogen is measured using a residual gas *** electron density and temperature are measured by a Langmuir probe,and the neutral temperature is calculated from the OH line intensity.

AIM: Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC), natural polyphenolic compounds found in plants, are known to have antioxidant and anti-cancer effects. We investigated whether the anti-cancer effects of the OPC are induced by apoptosis on human colorectal cancer cell line, ***: Colorectal cancer cell line, SNU-C4 was cultured in RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. The cytotoxic effect of OPC was assessed by 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenylt-etrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. To find out the apoptotic cell death, 4, 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay, reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and caspase-3 enzyme assay were ***: In this study, cytotoxic effect of OPC on SNUC4 cells appeared in a dose-dependent manner. OPC treatment (100 μg/mL) revealed typical morphological apoptotic features. Additionally OPC treatment (100 μg/mL)increased level of BAX and CASPASE-3, and decreased level of BCL-2 mRNA expression. Caspase-3 enzyme activity was also significantly increased by treatment of OPC (100 μg/mL) compared with ***: These data indicate that OPC caused cell death by apoptosis through caspase pathways on human colorectal cancer cell line, SNU-C4.

An Efficient and Spam-Robust Proximity Measure Between Communication Entities

Electronic communication service providers are obliged to retain communication data for a certain amount of time by their local laws. The retained communication data or the communication logs are used in various applications such as crime detection, viral marketing, analytical study, and so on. Many of these applications rely on effective techniques for analyzing communication logs. In this paper, we focus on measuring the proximity between two communication entities, which is a fundamental and important step toward further analysis of communication logs, and propose a new proximity measure called ESP （Efficient and Spam-Robust Proximity measure）. Our proposed measure considers only the （graph- theoretically） shortest paths between two entities and gives small values to those between spam-like entities and others. Thus, it is not only computationally efficient but also spam-robust. By conducting several experiments on real and synthetic datasets, we show that our proposed proximity measure is more accurate, computationally efficient and spam-robust than the existing measures in most cases.

Axons in central nervous system （CNS） do not regenerate spontaneously after injuries such as stroke and traumatic spinal cord iniury. Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors are responsible for the regeneration fail- ure, Although intensive research efforts have been invested on extrinsic regeneration inhibitors, the extent to which glial inhibitors contribute to the regeneration failure in viva still remains elusive. Recent exper- imental evidence has rekindled interests in intrinsic factors for the regulation of regeneration capacity in adult mammals. In this review, we propose that activating macrophages with pro-regenerative molecular signatures could be a novel approach for boosting intrinsic regenerative capacity of CNS neurons. Using a conditioning injury model in which regeneration of central branches of dorsal root ganglia sensory neu- rons is enhanced by a preceding injury to the peripheral branches, we have demonstrated that perineuronal macrophages surrounding dorsal root ganglia neurons are critically involved in the maintenance of en- hanced regeneration capacity. Neuron-derived chemokine （C-C motif） ligand 2 （CCL2） seems to mediate neuron-macrophage interactions conveying injury signals to perineuronal macrophages taking on a soley pro-regenerative phenotype, which we designate as regeneration-associated macrophages （RAMs）. Ma- nipulation of the CCL2 signaling could boost regeneration potential mimicking the conditioning injury, suggesting that the chemokine-mediated RAM activation could be utilized as a regenerative therapeutic strategy for CNS injuries.

Single carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are candidates for a number of electronics and sensing applications, provided that single CNTs can be separated from a bundle of CNTs in suspension. Dielectrophoresis has recently been demonstrated as one route for the extraction of desired CNTs. however, previous methods using dielectrophoresis have found it difficult to extract single nanotubes from bundles of CNTs in solution. Here, we show that this restriction can be overcome by using pulsed DC voltage of an electric field, instead of regular AC and DC voltages.

The volume of academic literature,such as academic conference papers and journals,has increased rapidly worldwide,and research on metadata extraction is ***,high-performing metadata extraction is still challenging due to diverse layout formats according to journal *** accommodate the diversity of the layouts of academic journals,we propose a novel LAyout-aware Metadata Extraction(LAME)framework equipped with the three characteristics(e.g.,design of automatic layout analysis,construction of a large meta-data training set,and implementation of metadata extractor).In the framework,we designed an automatic layout analysis using PDF *** on the layout analysis,a large volume of metadata-separated training data,including the title,abstract,author name,author affiliated organization,and keywords,were automatically ***,we constructed a pre-trainedmodel,Layout-Meta BERT,to extract the metadata from academic journals with varying layout *** experimental results with our metadata extractor exhibited robust performance(Macro-F1,93.27%)in metadata extraction for unseen journals with different layout formats.

Flow Visualization and Performance Measurements of a Flagellar Propeller

A new type of propeller that is optimized for low Reynolds numbers is required to propel a small object in a medium where the flow is dominated by viscous rather than inertial forces. A propeller in the shape of a bacterial flagellum seems an appro- priate choice for driving a small object. Accordingly, in this study, we visualized the velocity field induced by a spring-like propeller inspired by the Escherichia coli flagellum, using a macroscopic model and applying stereoscopic particle image velocimetry. We also experimentally evaluated the effect of pitch and rotational speed on the performance of this flagellar propeller. Silicone oil, which has a kinematic viscosity 100,000 times that of water, was used as the working fluid to generate a low Reynolds number for the macroscopic model. Thrust, torque, and velocity were measured as functions of pitch and rota- tional speed, and the efficiency of the propeller was calculated from the measured results. We found that the flagellar propeller reached a max!mum efficiency when the pitch angle was approximately 53°. Compared to pitch, rotational speed had a relatively small effect on the efficiency, and the pitch altered the flow pattern behind the rotating propeller.

AIM to evaluate gender differences in the aspect of ghrelin,nociception-related genes and psychological aspects and the quality of life(Qo L) in Korean functional dyspepsia(FD) *** Total of 191 persons were prospectively enrolled between March 2013 and May 2016 in Seoul National Bundang hospital,and classified into control and FD group based on ROME Ⅲ criteria. Questionnaire included assessment for dyspepsia symptoms,Qo L and anxiety or depression. Preproghrelin and nociception genes in the gastric mucosa and plasma acyl/des-acyl ghrelin were measured. RESULTS Lower level of plasma acyl ghrelin in FD patients compared to control was significant only in male(15.9 fmol/m L vs 10.4 fmol/m L,P = 0.017). Significantly higher m RNA expressions of nerve growth factor and transient receptor potential vanilloid receptor 1 were observed in male(P = 0.002 and P = 0.014,respectively) than in female. In contrast,female FD patients had a higher anxiety and depression score than male FD(P = 0.029),and anxiety score was correlated with epigastric pain only in female FD patients(female: Spearman rho = 0.420,P = 0.037). The impairment of overall Qo L was more prominent in female FD patients than male patients(5.4 ± 0.3 vs 6.5 ± 0.3,P = 0.020). CONCLUSION Gender differences of ghrelin and nociception-related genes in male and psychological factors in female underlie FD symptoms. More careful assessment of psychological or emotional status is required particularly for the female FD patients.
