A macroscopic constitutive model of shape memory alloy considering cyclic effects

This paper presents a macroscopic constitutive model reproducing the hysteretic behaviors of the superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) under cyclic loading. The progressive increase of residual strain with the increased cycle number in such materials is assumed to be a consequence of the progressive increase of residual stress-induced martensitic volume fraction upon the cyclic effects. The progressive decrease of phase transformation critical stresses with the increased cycle number in such materials is assumed to be a result from the progressive increase of phase transformation critical temperatures upon the cyclic effects. A cyclic evolution equation is supposed to describe the influences of cycle effects on the material properties of the SMA under cyclic loading. A phase transformation equation expressing the phase transformation behaviors of the SMA under cyclic loading is established based on the differential relationship between martensitic volume fraction and the free energy increment of phase transformation. A mechanical constitutive equation predicting the mechanical characteristics of the SMA under cyclic loading is developed on the basis of thermodynamics and continuum mechanics. The cyclic evolution equation, phase transformation equation, and mechanical constitutive equation together compose the presented macroscopic constitutive model considering cyclic effects. Results of the numerical simulations illustrate that it can well reproduce the superelastic hysteretic behaviors of the SMA under cyclic loading.

Preparation and characterization of Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12) synthesized using hydrogen titanate nanowire for hybrid super capacitor

The electrical characteristics of hybrid super capacitor were evaluated by synthesizing LTO(Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12))using TiO_(2) having a hydrogen titanate nanowire *** of the hydrogen titanate nanowire was implemented by using TiO_(2) having size of 60 nm and NaOH,and performing synthesis at 70℃for 6 h with a sonochemical *** compound was synthesized at 150℃for 36 h and at 180℃for 36 h respectively by using the hydrogen titanate nanowire and LiOH·H2O as starting materials with a hydrothermal *** final LTO compound was synthesized at 700℃for 6 h using a solid-state *** a result of manufacturing the hybrid super capacitor using LTO synthesized at 180℃for 36 h with the hydrothermal method,a capacity of 198 mA·h/g has been achieved compared to a theoretical capacity of 172 mA·h/g of existing LTO,and thus,the capacity has been increased by about 13%.Further,such excellent cycle performance has ensured its possibility as a high-capacity capacitor.

The epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)pathway plays an important role in the progression of colorectal cancer(CRC).Anti-EGFR drugs based on antibodies have been widely used for treating CRC through inducing the cell death ***,the majority of CRC patients will inevitably develop drug-resistance during anti-EGFR drug treatment,which is mainly caused by a point mutation in the KRAS *** developed a nanoliposomal(NL)particle containing the Cas9 protein and a single-guide RNA(sgRNA)complex(Cas9-RNP),for genomic editing of the KRAS *** NL particle is composed of bio-compatible lipid compounds that can effectively encapsulate *** modifying the NL particle to include the appropriate antibody,it can specifically recognize EGFR expressing CRC and effectively deliver the gene-editing *** conditions of NL treatment were optimized using a KRAS mutated CRC in vivo mouse *** with KRAS-mutated CRC showed drug resistance against cetuximab,a therapeutic antibody *** treating the mice with the KRAS gene-editing NL particles,the implanted tumors showed a dramatic decrease in *** results demonstrated that this genomic editing complex has great potential as a therapeutic carrier system for the treatment of drug-resistant cancer caused by a point mutation.

Epidemic obesity in children and adolescents:risk factors and prevention

The prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents (aged 2–18 years) has increased rapidly, with more than 100 million affected in 2015. Moreover, the epidemic of obesity in this population has been an important public health problem in developed and developing countries for the following reasons. Childhood and adolescent obesity tracks adulthood obesity and has been implicated in many chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, childhood and adolescent obesity is linked to adulthood mortality and premature death. Although an imbalance between caloric intake and physical activity is a principal cause of childhood and adolescent obesity, environmental factors are exclusively important for development of obesity among children and adolescents. In addition to genetic and biological factors, socioenvironmental factors, including family, school, community, and national policies, can play a crucial role. The complexity of risk factors for developing obesity among children and adolescents leads to difficulty in treatment for this population. Many interventional trials for childhood and adolescent obesity have been proven ineffective. Therefore, early identification and prevention is the key to control the global epidemic of obesity. Given that the proportion of overweight children and adolescents is far greater than that of obesity, an effective prevention strategy is to focus on overweight youth, who are at high risk for developing obesity. Multifaceted, comprehensive strategies involving behavioral, psychological, and environmental risk factors must also be developed to prevent obesity among children and adolescents.

BACKGROUND Carotid blowout syndrome(CBS)is a rupture of the carotid artery and is mainly caused by radiation and resection of head and neck cancers or direct tumor invasion of the carotid artery *** is a life-threatening clinical *** is no established and effective mode of management of ***,there is no established preceding sign or symptom;therefore,preventive efforts are not clinically *** SUMMARY We described two cases of CBS that occurred in patients with head and neck cancer after definitive chemoradiotherapy(CRT)using three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiation *** men aged 61 and 56 years with locally advanced head and neck cancer were treated with definitive *** completing CRT,both of them achieved complete ***,they had persistent severe pain in the oropharyngeal mucosal region and the irradiated neck despite the use of opioid analgesics and rehabilitation for relief of contracted ***,continuous follow-up imaging studies showed no evidence of cancer *** to twelve months after completing CRT,the patients visited the emergency room complaining about massive oronasal *** showed rupture of carotid artery pseudoaneurysms on the irradiated *** attempting to secure hemostasis with carotid arterial stent insertion and coil embolization,both patients died because of repeated bleeding from the *** In patients with persistent pain in irradiated sites,clinicians should be suspicious of progressing or impending CBS,even in the three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiation therapy era.

Increased incidence of indeterminate pancreatic cysts and changes of management pattern: Evidence from nationwide data

Background:Pancreatic cysts are ***,most studies are based on data collected from individual *** present study aimed to evaluate the changes of management patterns for pancreatic cystic lesions(PCLs)by analyzing large epidemiologic ***:Between January 2007 and December 2018,information regarding pancreatic cystic lesions was acquired from the nationwide Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database in ***:The final number of patients with pancreatic cysts was 165277 among the total claims for reimbursement of 855983 associated with PCLs over 12 *** total number of claims were increased from 19453 in 2007 to 155842 in 2018 and the prevalence increased from 0.04%to 0.23%.For 12 years,2874(1.7%)had pancreatic cancer and 8212(5.0%)underwent surgery,and 36 had surgery for twice(total 8248 pancreatectomy).After ruling out claims from the first 3 years of washout period,the incidence increased from 9891 to 24651 and the crude incidence rate of PCLs expanded from 19.96 per 100000 to 47.77 per *** to specific neoplasm codes(D136 or D377),the use of pancreatic cyst code(K862)has been remarkably increased and the most common since *** annual number of pancreatectomies increased from 518 to 861 between 2007 and 2012,and decreased to 596 until *** percentage of pancreatic cancer in patients who received pancreatectomy increased from 5.6%in 2007 to 11.7%in ***:The incidence of PCLs is rapidly *** PCLs,indeterminate cyst is increasing outstandingly.A trend of decreasing in the number of resections and increasing cancer rates among resected cysts may be attributed to the updated international guidelines.

Second to fourth digit ratio： a predictor of adult penile ength

The second to fourth digit ratio （2D：4D） has been proposed as a putative biomarker for prenatal testosterone and covaries with the sensitivity of the androgen receptor （AR）. Both prenatal testosterone and the AR play a central role in penile growth. In this study, we investigated the relationship between digit ratio and penile length. Korean men who were hospitalized for urological surgery at a single tertiary academic centre were examined in this study, and 144 men aged 20 years or older who gave informed consent were prospectively enrolled. Right-hand second- and fourth-digit lengths were measured by a single investigator prior to measurement of penile length. Under anaesthesia, flaccid and stretched penile lengths were measured by another investigator who did not measure nor have any the information regarding the digit lengths. Univariate and multivariate analysis using linear regression models showed that only height was a significant predictive factor for flaccid penile length （univariate analysis： r=0. 185, P=-0.026; multivariate analysis： r=-0.172, P=0.038） and that only digit ratio was a significant predictive factor for stretched penile length （univariate analysis： r=-0.216, P=0.009; multivariate analysis： r=-0.201, P=0.024; stretched penile length=-9.201 xdigit ratio ＋ 20.577）. Based on this evidence, we suggest that the digit ratio can predict adult penile size and that the effects of prenatal testosterone may in part explain the differences in adult penile length.

New approaches to gastric cancer staging:Beyond endoscopic ultrasound,computed tomography and positron emission tomography

Currently, there is no single gold standard modality for staging of gastric cancer and several methods have been used complementarily in the each clinical situation. To make up for the shortcomings of conventional modalities such as endoscopic ultrasound, computed tomography and 18F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography, numerous attempts with new approaches have been made for gastric cancer staging. For T staging, magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band was evaluated to differentiate mucosal cancer from submucosal cancer. Single/double contrast-enhanced ultrasound and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging were also tried to improve diagnostic accuracy of gastric cancer. For intraoperative staging with sentinel node mapping, indocyanine green infrared and fluorescence imaging was introduced. In addition, to detect micrometastasis, real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction system with multiple markers was studied. Staging laparoscopy using 5-aminolevulinic acid-mediated photodynamic diagnosis and percutaneous diagnostic peritoneal lavage were also evaluated. however, most studies reporting new staging methods is preliminary and further studies for validation in clinical practice are needed. In this mini-review, we discuss new progress in gastric cancer staging. Especially, we focus on new diagnostic approach to gastric cancer staging beyond the conventional modalities and briefly review the remarkable clinical results of the studies published over the past three years.

Purification of Astaxanthin from Laminaria japonica by Ionic Liquid-based Monolithic Cartridge

An effective and accurate method was developed for the extraction of astaxanthin from Laminariajapo- nica with subsequent separation by ionic liquid-based monolithic cartridge. The optimized extraction conditions in- cluding extraction solvent（ethanol）, extraction time（90 min） and ultrasonic power（75 W） were obtained by systema- tical investigation. Chromatographic analysis was performed on a C18 column with ultraviolet（UV） detection at 476 nm, and a solution consisting of methanol/acetonitrile/H2O/dichloromethane（83：6：6：5, volume ratio） was used as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.7 mL/min. After ionic liquid-based monolithic solid phase extraction, 17.82 μg/g as- taxanthin was obtained from Laminaria japonica. This ionic liquid-based monolithic cartridge exhibits high affinity and selectivity for astaxanthin, and it can be potentially used as the stationary phase of high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）.
