Geochemistry and age of seamounts in the West Pacific: mantle processes and petrogenetic implications

Research on seamounts provides some of the best constraints for understanding intraplate volcanism, and samples from seamounts reveal crucial evidence about the geochemical makeup of the oceanic mantle. There are still many seamounts in the West Pacific Seamount Province(WPSP) that have not been studied, meaning their ages and geochemistry remain unknown. A better understanding of these seamount trails and their evolutionary history, investigated with age and geochemistry data, will enable better understanding of the geological processes operating underneath the Pacific Ocean Plate. Here, new ^(40)Ar/^(39) Ar ages and trace element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic data for seven basalt rocks from four seamounts in the WPSP are provided. Chemically, these rocks are all Oceanic Island Alkali basalt(OIA type); analysis of olivine phenocrysts shows that the magmas experienced strong olivine fractionation and changed from olivine + plagioclase to olivine + plagioclase + clinopyroxene cotectic during their evolution. Rare earth element(REE) patterns and a spider diagram of the samples in this study show OIB(Ocean Island Basalt) like behavior. The range of ^(87)Sr/^(86) Sr values is from 0.704 60 to 0.706 24, the range of ^(206)Pb/^(204) Pb values is from 18.241 to 18.599, and the range of ^(143)Nd/^(144) Nd values is from 0.512 646 to 0.512 826; together, these values indicate magma sources ranging from EMI to EMII. Finally, new ^(40)Ar/^(39) Ar age data show that these seamounts formed at ～97 and ～106 Ma, indicating that some may have undergone the same formation processes as seamounts in the eastern part of the Magellan Seamount Trail, but other seamounts likely have different origins.

Combined effects of climate and land-use changes on the alpha and beta functional diversities of terrestrial mammals in China

Haloxylon ammodendron is an excellent shrub species for fixation and afforestation in arid desert region,belongs to Amaranthaceae sensu lato,Salsoloideae,or Chenopodiaceae,Salsoleae [1-2].In mid-July 2018,the severe leaf and stem blight caused by Peronosporaceae oomycete was found on *** seedlings in a nursery in Minqin County,Gansu *** affected scaly leaves and stems were purplish red,with a sparse gray mold on the diseased parts,and the serious diseased young branches *** sporangiophores arised from stomata,solitary or clustered,length(178.0～630.0) μm,width(6.9～13.7) μm,the main trunk length(79.2～352.5) μm,main trunk length-total length ratios were 0.4～0.6;the base of trunk sometimes enlarged,and branches dichotomously branched in multi-orders,ultimate branchlets were in pairs or single,usual straight or extremely angle,*** sporangia were grayish brown,ovoid to olive-shaped,(27.4～44.1) ×(13.7～21.6) μm,length-width ratios were 1.5～*** oogonia were produced an abundance in diseased tissues,spherical,nearly spherical,broadly elliptical,or polygonal in shape,(44.1～63.7) ×(42.1～60.8) μm;oospores were aplerotic,spherical,golden brown to reddish brown,(30.4～47.0) ×(28.4～44.1) μm,the wall of oospores were thick and rough,with tuberculate or paniculate *** to the lack of molecular biology and host specificity test data of the pathogen at present,the pathogen is tentatively named Peronosporaceae sp.(Downy mildews with colored sporangia:Peronospora or Pseudoperonospora) [3-4].Since the genetic relationship between *** and the other Chenopodiaceae host plants of the discovered downy mildews is relatively far away,the pathogen is high probablely a new *** dried herbaria of infected plants were deposited in the Plant Protection Institute,Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences,*** is the first report of downy mildew on *** and Haloxylon genus in worldwide.

Climate and land-use changes are predicted to impact biodiversity,threatening ecosystem services and ***,their combined effects on the functional diversity of mammals at the regional scale remain unclear,especially at the beta ***,we use projected climate and land-use changes in China to investigate their potential effects on the alpha and beta functional diversities of terrestrial mammals under low-and high-emission *** the current projection,we showed strong positive spatial correlations between functional richness and species *** evenness (FEve),functional specialization (FSpe),and functional originality (FOri)decreased with species richness,and functional divergence (FDiv) increased first and then *** beta diversity was dominated by its nestedness component,in contrast to the taxonomic *** changes in species richness are more strongly influenced by land-use change under the low-emission scenario,while under the high-emission scenario,they are more strongly influenced by climate *** in functional richness (FRic) were inconsistent with those in species richness,with a magnitude of decreases greater than predicted from species ***,mammal assemblages showed potential functional differentiation (FD) across the country,and the trends exceeded those towards taxonomic differentiation (TD).Our findings help us understand the processes underlying biodiversity responses to global changes on multiple facets and provide new insight for conservation plans.

芽孢杆菌类微生物制剂能有效控制植物病害。本研究在明确生防菌萎缩芽孢杆菌ZY1825菌株对甘蓝枯萎病菌的拮抗抑菌效果及生防菌最佳发酵条件的基础上,以ZY1825菌株发酵液为种子处理剂活性成分,筛选确定了分散剂、成膜剂、稳定剂及防冻剂等助剂组合的最佳质量分数为:木质素磺酸钠4%、羧甲基纤维素0.25%、膨润土1%、乙二醇0.5%,将ZY1825菌株发酵液(9.28×109 cfu/mL)与混合助剂按体积比2:1均质混合,制得生防芽孢杆菌种子处理剂WS20,经测试其成膜时间为1.45 min,包衣均匀度93.06%,货架期可达150 d,热贮和低温稳定性等指标均符合种子处理悬浮剂及微生物制剂的国家相关标准。采用WS20种子处理剂按药种质量比1:30包衣甘蓝种子,对甘蓝枯萎病的盆栽防效为64.94%。研究结果可为利用芽孢杆菌制备种子处理剂以及土传性病害的生物防治提供参考。

The"Boring Billion"refers the era between c.1.8 and 0.8 billion years ago(Ga)(Holland,2006;Young,2013).Especially,the period from 1.6 to 1.0 Ga is known as"the dullest time in Earth’s deep-time history"(Buick et al.,1995).The reason why this period is referred to as the"Boring Billion"is because there were very few’special’or’interesting’events discovered in the geological or geochemical records over nearly one-fourth of Earth's deep-time history.

Preconsolidation stress ( σ P') is the maximum effective stress that a soil has suffered throughout its life. From a geotechnical point of view, pre-consolidation stress has great importance because it separates elastic and reversible deformations from inelastic and only partially irreversible deformations and marks the starting point of high compressibility. In this study we calculated the preconsolidation stress for 72 undisturbed soil samples from the Yellow River Delta, using the oedometer test and applying the method proposed by Casagrande. The results showed that the over-consolidation ratio (OCR-the ratio of pre-consolidation stress to current natural overburden stress) values of the soil from soil surface to 6m depth varied from 1.72 to 15.34 and the maximum pre-consolidation stress was above 200 kPa. In consequence, the soils of the Yellow River Delta are highly over-consolidated within the upper 6 m, the OCR decreasing gradually with depth from 6 to 12 m. For samples from deeper than 12 m the soils were found to be under-consolidated, which was proved by standard penetration tests (SPTs). The main causes of this type of consolidation are the mineral composition and the designability of the soil body.

High-pressing preparation of rock glasses and their elastic properties

Melt glasses for seven types of rock ranging from acid to basic were prepared under 1.0 GPa on a multi-anvil pressure apparatus, YJ-3000 ton press. Densities and elastic properties of the melt glasses were compared with those described in previous studies. It was found that the glasses melted under 1.0 GPa were consistent in density with both naturally-occurring glassy rocks and artificially prepared glasses melted at ambient pressure. The densities of glasses are negatively correlated with the SiO2 contents and positively correlated with the (MgO+FeO) contents. The compressive velocity (Vp) of glass tends to increase with decreasing SiO2 contents and increasing (MgO+FeO) contents. The shear velocity (Vs) of glass tends to increase slightly with increasing SiO2 contents, which has little connection with the (MgO+FeO) contents. It was calculated from densities and velocities that the elastic moduli of glasses are negatively correlated with the SiO2 contents and positively correlated with the (MgO+FeO) contents.
