A year-round halocline is a particular hydrographic structure in the upperArctic Ocean. On the basis of an analysis of the hydrographic data collected in the Arctic Ocean, itis found that a double-halocline structure exists in the upper layer of the southern Canada Basin,which is absolutely different from the Cold Halocline Layer (CHL) in the Eurasian Basin. ThePacific-origin water is the primary factor in the formation of the double-halocline structure. Theupper halocline lies between the summer modification and the winter modification of thePacific-origin water while the lower halocline results from the Pacific-origin water overlying uponthe Atlantic-origin water. Both haloclines are all the year-round although seasonal and interannualvariations have been detected in the historical data.

Co-occurrence of IPMN and malignant IPNB complicated by a pancreatobiliary fistula: A case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct(IPNB) is pathologically similar to intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm(IPMN). However, there are several significant differences between them. The rate of IPMN associated with extrapancreatic malignancies has been reported to range from 10%-40%, and it may occasionally be complicated with the presence of fistulas. IPMN associated with malignant IPNB is extremely rare and only nine cases have been reported in the *** SUMMARY We report a 52-year-old man who presented with recurrent cholangitis for nine months. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography showed the common bile duct stricture with dilated pancreatobiliary duct without other abnormal findings. The underlying pathogenesis could not be identified based on the radiologic images. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography revealed a pancreatobiliary fistula with dilated main pancreatic duct, biliary stricture with dilated biliary tree, and mucus discharge from the enlarged orifice of the major papilla. The patient underwent SpyGlass cholangiopancreatoscopy due to a suspected mucin-producing biliary neoplasm and indeterminate main pancreatic duct dilatation. Multiple papillary growing neoplasms with vascular images, with the extent of lesions spreading in the biliopancreatic ductal lumens, were identified by SpyGlass. In addition, the presence of a pancreatobiliary fistula was also identified. The patient was diagnosed as having benign IPMN and malignant IPNB with focal invasion by postoperative pathology. Furthermore, varying histological subtypes were present in both IPMN and IPNB. Pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed on the patient with excellent results during the 52 month followup *** We deemed that pancreatography and SpyGlass allowed for an efficient diagnosis of IPMN with pancreatobiliary fistula, whereas the etiology could not be identified by radiologic imaging.

Manganese-based material is a prospective cathode material for aqueous zinc ion batteries(ZIBs)by virtue of its high theoretical capacity,high operating voltage,and low ***,the manganese dissolution during the electrochemical reaction causes its electrochemical cycling stability to be *** this work,heterointerface engineering-induced oxygen defects are introduced into heterostructure MnO_(2)(δa-MnO_(2))by in situ electrochemical activation to inhibit manganese dissolution for aqueous zinc ion ***,the heterointerface between the disordered amorphous and the crystalline MnO_(2)ofδa-MnO_(2)is decisive for the formation of oxygen *** the experimental results indicate that the manganese dissolution ofδa-MnO_(2)is considerably inhibited during the charge/discharge *** analysis indicates that the oxygen defect regulates the electronic and band structure and the Mn-O bonding state of the electrode material,thereby promoting electron transport kinetics as well as inhibiting Mn ***,the capacity ofδa-MnO_(2)does not degrade after 100 cycles at a current density of 0.5 Ag^(-1)and also 91%capacity retention after 500cycles at 1 Ag^(-1).This study provides a promising insight into the development of high-performance manganese-based cathode materials through a facile and low-cost strategy.

The dual-action mechanism of Arabidopsis cryptochromes

Photoreceptor cryptochromes (CRYs) mediate blue-light regulation of plant growth and development. It has been reported that Arabidopsis CRY1and CRY2 function by physically interacting with at least 84 proteins, including transcription factors or co-factors, chromatin regulators, splicing factors, messenger RNA methyltransferases, DNA repair proteins, E3 ubiquitin ligases, protein kinases and so on. Of these 84 proteins, 47 have been reported to exhibit altered binding affinity to CRYs in response to blue light, and 41 have been shown to exhibit condensation to CRY photobodies. The blue light-regulated composition or condensation of CRY complexes results in changes of gene expression and developmental programs. In this mini-review, we analyzed recent studies of the photoregulatory mechanisms of Arabidopsis CRY complexes and proposed the dual mechanisms of action, including the “Lock-and-Key” and the “Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation (LLPS)” mechanisms. The dual CRY action mechanisms explain, at least partially, the structural diversity of CRY-interacting proteins and the functional diversity of the CRY photoreceptors.

An adaptive finite-difference method for seismic traveltime modeling based on 3D eikonal equation

3D eikonal equation is a partial differential equation for the calculation of first-arrival traveltimes and has been widely applied in many scopes such as ray tracing,source localization,reflection migration,seismic monitoring and tomographic *** recent years,many advanced methods have been developed to solve the 3D eikonal equation in heterogeneous ***,there are still challenges for the stable and accurate calculation of first-arrival traveltimes in 3D strongly inhomogeneous *** this paper,we propose an adaptive finite-difference(AFD)method to numerically solve the 3D eikonal *** novel method makes full use of the advantages of different local operators characterizing different seismic wave types to calculate factors and traveltimes,and then the most accurate factor and traveltime are adaptively selected for the convergent updating based on the Fermat *** with global fast sweeping describing seismic waves propagating along eight directions in 3D media,our novel method can achieve the robust calculation of first-arrival traveltimes with high precision at grid points either near source point or far away from source point even in a velocity model with large and sharp *** numerical examples show the good performance of the AFD method,which will be beneficial to many scientific applications.

Numerical investigation on compressible flow around a cylinder in proximity to the heated wall

In this study,direct numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the compressible flow around a circular cylinder near a heated wall at a Reynolds number(Re)of 500 and a Mach number(Ma)of *** heating ratio T^(*)ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 represents the different situations of a heated wall,whereas the gap ratio ranges from 0.3 to *** study analyzed the impact of heating effect and wall proximity on flow characteristics and aerodynamic *** results indicated that the stability of the flow was enhanced as the gap ratio decreased or the heating ratio *** the calculation of enstrophy,it was found that the strength of shedding vortices weakens with a decrease in gap ratio or an increase in heating ***,the mean drag coefficient decreases as the heating ratio increases or the gap ratio *** contrast,the mean lift coefficient initially decreases and then increases as the gap ratio ***,the drag reduction mechanism was analyzed by examining the pressure distribution on the surface of the cylinder.

Reinforcement of High Impact Polystyrene by Aramid Nanoparticle Fillers Prepared via an In situ Bottom-up Approach

In this work,aramid nanoparticles(ANPs)were prepared in dimethyl formamide(DMF)solution containing high impact polystyrene(HIPS)via a bottom-up *** electron microscopy(TEM)images showed that the obtained ANPs were evenly distributed in the HIPS matrix without any *** composition of the ANPs,i.e.,poly(p-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine)(PPTA),was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and X-ray diffractometer(XRD).The ANP/HIPS composites,obtained after ethanol precipitation,were added to neat HIPS as fillers to fabricate ANP/HIPS composite *** surface roughness and the glass transition temperature(T_g)of the sheets were characterized by atomic force microscope(AFM)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),*** with neat HIPS,the mechanical properties of the composite sheet were significantly improved,and the Young's modulus increased from 246.55 MPa to 2025.12 MPa,the tensile strength increased from 3.07 MPa to 29.76 MPa,and the toughness increased from 0.32 N/mm^2 to 3.92 N/mm^2,with an increase rate of 721%,869%and 1125%,***,the thermal stability of the composites improved with the increase in ANP content.

Mechanical properties and microstructure of Mg-treated and Catreated industrial H13 steel after quenching and tempering

The effect of magnesium treatment and calcium treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of industrial H13 steel after quenching and tempering was *** impact toughness and tensile tests were mainly carried out,and the microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscopy,electron backscattered diffraction,and X-ray *** results show that magnesium treatment is still feasible in industrial *** is mainly manifested in the refinement of lath martensite and *** with calcium treatment,the prior austenite grains and carbides size of industrial H13 steel treated with magnesium decreased by 3.17μm after *** quenching and tempering,the carbides(especially V-rich carbides)in Mg treatment obviously spheroidized and distributed uniformly and increased in quantity *** lath martensite size is reduced from 2.45 to 2.31μ*** suggests that magnesium treatment was able to yield smaller grains and more evenly distributed ***,the impact toughness,yield strength,and ultimate tensile strength of industrial H13 steel with magnesium treatment increased by 28%,65.5 MPa and 123.7 MPa,*** increment of strength mainly comes from dislocation strengthening,grain refinement strengthening,and precipitation strengthening,among which precipitation strengthening accounts for the largest proportion.

Unravelling the nature of the active species as well as the Mn doping effect over gamma-Al_(2)O_(3) catalyst for eliminating AsH_(3) and PH_(3)

To investigate the enhancing effect of Mn on the performance of simultaneous catalytic oxidation of AsH_(3)and PH_(3)by CuO-Al_(2)O_(3)in a reducing atmosphere under micro-oxygen conditions,Cu-Mn modifiedγ-Al_(2)O_(3)catalysts were *** characteristics of the catalysts showed that Mn reduced the crystallinity of the active CuO component,increased the number of oxygen vacancies and acidic sites on the catalyst surface,enhanced the mobility of surface oxygen,and the interaction between copper and manganese promoted the redox cycling ability of the catalysts and improved their oxidation performance,which increased the conversion frequency(TOF)by 2.54×10^(-2)to 3.07×10^(-2)sec^(-1).On the other hand,the introduction of Mn reduced the production of phosphate and As_(2)O_(3)on the catalyst surface by30.96%and 44.9%,which reduced the coverage and inerting of the active sites by phosphate and As_(2)O_(3),resulting in an 8 hr(6 hr)improvement in the stability of PH_(3)(AsH_(3))removal.
